The Podcast for Teaching and Learning (PTL) serves as a resource designed specifically for faculty in higher education to foster the enhancement of teaching excellence in all forms. Our goal is to highlight some of the important and innovative work SRU faculty are doing in the classroom and to discuss specific strategies for teaching 21st-century learners.

On this episode of the PTL, we sit down with Dr. Becky Thomas, 2019 recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, to talk about community-engaged learning and how we can use these methods as a way to empower our students both in and out of the classroom. Becky also talks about her Faculty-Student Roundtables as part of the PASSHE West Virtual Conference on Teaching and Learning, December 8 and 9, 2020.

In this episode, we chat with Dr. Ashley Loe, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at SRU. Unafraid of trying new things, Ashley shares some tips and tricks for engaging students in her online courses. Together, the team shares their success stories, as well as their struggles when trying to engage students online.
This week on the podcast we sit down with a man that wears many hats, Dr. Jason Hilton. For this conversation, he talks about the evolution of teaching and learning at SRU from his role as SRU APSCUF President. Jason gives us his insights and opinions on how we transitioned from multimodal to primarily online for Fall 2020, and what the future of teaching and learning looks like at the Rock.
This week on the PTL we sit down with two outstanding SRU students, Hannah Shumsky and Briana Spagnolo. Hannah and Briana share their experiences as students during the current pandemic and reflect on what makes a great educational experience at SRU. The pair gave special shout-outs to Dr. Rachela Permenter, Dr. Wayne Forbes, Dr. Qi Chen, and Dr. Timothy Oldakowski.
