To Being Me: Recent Episodes

Tshepang Balekane Tlale

To Being Me (TBM) is a podcast dedicated to mental health, wellness, and the softer things in life. TBM is the raw, the real, the pure, the ugly. It aims to join our many communities through sharing experiences, love, light, and hope. The vision for TBM is to share wholeheartedly with the mission in mind to inspire your healing as I work through my own. The world can be a dark and seemingly doomed place sometimes. It helps to hear relatable, personal, real content to be reminded that you are not alone. To be reminded that you can fearlessly charge at your healing knowing that there is a safe and soft spot ready for you all the time.

There is so much magic, power, and life that resides within us. It is our responsibility, it is up to us, we owe it to ourselves to tap into that energy and be the best version of ourselves. Consciously choose better, to plant hope, to radiate love, to find your healing, to spread light, choose happiness, peace, security. We are always working on ourselves, cultivating, and building beautiful gardens.

TBM is my heart. I hope you enjoy my love letter to the world. I wish you life in abundance. #OwnIt

We still mad?

Maybe not entirely, maybe not all the time. Maybe in waves and now we need to learn how to anticipate these tides and surf. We are human though. And we are faulty.

But we are finding ourselves.

There is still beauty between the cracks. We are seeing beyond the rage and fury. We are finding reasons. We are bettering ourselves. We are choosing out. We are carrying fire extinguishers and running into the terrifying screaming peace.

This is a sequel.

This is a conclusion.

Own it! ...then let go.

This is the beginning of a revival.

The simplest definition of revival is an improvement in the condition, strength, or fortunes of someone or something.

It's okay to be mad at yourself. But don’t camp there too long. You can be disappointed in your decisions. You can be weary of the cycles you willingly become a part of. But have the willingness to do better. It might not come straight away but the force pushing with desire is bound to crack something open.

In as much as you can be mad at everything and anyone, hold yourself accountable for those feelings. That is how you take up responsibility for the healing. Accept the setbacks for what they are. Don’t be taken a back and assume that the healing is not working. The pain came in layers. So will the healing.

Own it.

Learn to take some things by measure. Don’t become someone who gets used to taking the good by measure but diving headfirst into the bad because you feel it’s inevitable or that you deserve it. We value and are so open to experiencing negative emotions and feelings more than positive ones. We need a whole lot of reprogramming. We need to consciously unlearn, and relearn, become, and unbecome, transform and transfigure. Taking things by measure allows us to keep our heads above water when things have a chance to be overwhelming and take us under. Take things on in whatever doses it takes to digest and process without feeling like you are dying. Allow yourself to feel safe and supported. The aim is sustenance. Balance is key. Figure out your recommended portion sizes and let that guide you. Process by measure. And know your limits. Be okay with slowing down.

Own it.

And bravely take things by measure.

We are in our minds 24/7 even though we are not always aware of what goes on - we should consciously put in effort to make our minds beautiful places to exist in.

The Beautiful Mind is about hoping for the best and expecting the best. Engaging with the narratives that go on in our minds and becoming aware of them is the first step to changing them for the better!

Intentions without actions are just wishes. Nothing will change.

Our minds need to be unconditioned from everything that no longer serve us, from everything that makes your mind a hard place to exist in, a scary place. It’s an active process.

The Bleak Moment is about allowance. Putting those gloomy and depressing moments into perspective. Deciding to embrace them rather than run away from them because they are a part of life too. I hope you choose to bravely own everything life throws at you without questioning your worth or giving up on yourself.

The Better Moment is about not giving into the pressure to make decisions, or any bold movements in the middle of storms, while we are processing. This episode is about respecting that sometimes we need extended moments to figure out what is going on and where exactly we’re headed before we make that leap. The Better Moment says wait for a better moment, create a better moment. Don’t rush yourself into undercalculated situations for the sake of making a move. It’s okay to ask for guidance, it’s okay to not be sure. Create the better moment every time. Get comfortable with acknowledging what good is and confident enough to know that you deserve better.

Take a break man, is exactly that! We discuss tiredness, fatigue, and burn out. The world is exhausted, even though it is refusing to acknowledge this until the situation is dire and we have our backs against the wall. In this episode we discuss the 12 phases of burnout, what we can do better to avoid desperate measures before we intervene, the different types of tiredness, and respecting that everyone makes a comeback in their own way.

At the end of this episode, we dive into a 3-minute affirmation session to activate our resting chakras. I hope you enjoy the experience and #OwnIt gracefully.

This episode is about letting go, mourning what seems to be a loss, and moving on to better. The analogy is matched with trees and how easily they seem to let go of what no longer serves them. We take a deeper look into reasons why we hold on to things that have not only stopped serving us but are hurting us too. We reflect on how negative moments are naturally remembered better and more highlighted in our human experiences. We take accountability for where we may have become complacent in our struggle. This episode is about forgiveness, choosing to let go of the darkness in order to allow a brighter side to seep through even if it scares us, keeping up with ourselves to know when a lesson has run its course.

In all seasons, be a tree! #OwnIt!

Memory plays a significant role in certain mental health conditions: Forgetfulness is associated with depression; connections in memory, such as those involving feared situations or drug-related cues, are an integral part of anxiety and substance use disorders; and post-traumatic symptoms are entwined with the memory of traumatic experiences.

In this episode we discuss memory and how it affects our functioning as humans. We discuss how we are sometimes held hostage by our past experiences in ways that prohibit us from being able to move forward in healthy ways. We discuss letting go, acceptance, and minimizing the feeling of impending doom we always get from living in our memories. #OwnIt!
