One of the questions that we often come back to in our conversations on the Live Stream is, "What season are you in?"

Our habits and routines can create the illusion of sameness every day.

In reality, we tend to operate in rhythms with different seasons requiring different areas of focus and activity.

We exist in an epidemic of urgency. It can be hard to resist to urge to keep pressing relentlessly forward when all the cues around you suggest that must or you will get left behind.

Even though the natural seasons have been blurred by modern life you can enforce your own layer of seasonality in the way that you engage with your tasks.

Life is filled with uncertainty and you may have varying levels of tolerance for this reality. Tolerance for uncertainty is often expressed as resilience, our ability to flow through internal and external happenings without being consumed.

You bounce back. Eventually.

Your ability to bounce back and how long it takes is determined largely by the routines and practices you follow on a daily basis

What are your most supportive/healing personal practices? Practices are intentional and open-ended actions that you repeat regularly. Some are more aligned with your wellness than others.

What is one thing you would like to add to your daily routine? You might be aware of some healthy practices that are missing for you. Maybe there is something that you do from time to time, that if you did consistently would make a positive impact on your experience.

What is one thing you would like to remove from your daily routine? Bad habits are hard to break. What makes it harder is the guilt that comes from your failure to be perfect the first time you try to disengage from a misaligned practice. It may be helpful to consider your cessation as an untangling rather than a break. Seeing it this way may prevent the negative spiral that can negate all of your progress. It will take time. There may be slip-ups but you got this.

Here are a few of the prompts from today's session...

What is something that you recently discovered you have been doing wrong? Are you the type to read instructions or do you typically tinker around and figure things out? Sometimes products or services are poorly designed. The recipe is not accurate or there is an error in the code that keeps the program from working the way it should.

User error Sometimes you don’t get the results you hoped for because you are not using something the way it was designed. Or maybe you are missing out on capabilities that are only discovered by power users who invest the time to explore the manual. You have to decide if it’s worth it.

More Prompts! What easy wins can you pursue to build momentum for your day? It's hard to just roll out of bed and deal with the biggest challenge of your day. It’s better to ramp up to deal with things that require clear thinking and focused action. A small win can be as simple as getting out of bed at the time that you planned or doing a few push-ups. You get to set up the game any way you like, as long as you can follow through on your intention it can give you a boost of confidence.

What is something you used to struggle with that you now find easy? When you are just getting started with a new endeavor the struggle can get real. It's easy to forget that you have been down that road before. If you reflect on your experience you can probably find instances where you overcame early struggles and gained skills and confidence to take things on.

What is the most important task on your radar? How can you get started on it today? Getting easy wins is a great way to start, but it’s important to not let your progress stop there. Combine the momentum you gain from small wins with the confidence you gain from acknowledging your history of overcoming struggles and bring that mindset to important tasks that can really move the needle.

You only need to commit to getting started. If you keep starting the finishing will take care of itself.

The beginning of a year is a great time to reflect on the year that passed and to envision possibilities of the year to come. But now we have reached the point in the year that some of the energy that inspired your resolutions has started to fizzle and that can be discouraging.

A year is a pretty decent chunk of time to reflect on, but it may not be enough to give you a good measure of your trajectory. It’s important to appreciate how far you have come and to realize that ups and downs are to be expected.

When you are in the midst of a down period, you might find that you are actually up compared to where you started.

Consider these prompts: What is the biggest difference between your life now and your life three years ago? In what areas of your life have you experienced the most growth in the past three years? Join the live conversation every Mon-Fri at 6 am on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or Twitch

Here are some prompts form today's session

What role does work play in your life?

For some, work is a place to trade time and skill for dollars so that you can get on with the business of living in between shifts. For others, work is a ground for meaning, connection, and contribution. Your job and your work don't have to be the same thing. The work that matters most to you may not be something that you even get paid for. What is your work? Why are you doing it?

What was your first job and what did it teach you?

In many cases, early jobs are straightforward exchanges of low-skilled labor for minimal pay. There might not be much to take away in terms of technical skills that you can apply in the future. But any venue that gives you the opportunity to interact with other humans and navigate social dynamics is a rich environment for learning.

What is something that you are willing to make better than it needs to be?

Most of the time, good enough is plenty. But occasionally we come across something that is far better than good enough. Some things are so good you want to talk about them and recommend them. It is in that little extra bit that love and art live. To cut through the noise and build connection, whether at home or in the marketplace, a bit better may be required.

What is something that you created that you are really proud of?

When you are really on your game you might impress yourself.

Here are some prompts from this episode!

When I ________, I feel like I am having a good day.

Having a good day doesn't always have to be something that happens to you. You can take steps to make your day better. There are of plenty of things outside of your control that might make for a day wouldn't have chosen. But even when things are falling apart all around you, try to notice some things you can do to save the day or at least make it better.

.

Now more than ever, I value _____________.

As you gain experience, the things that are important to you may change. So many of your behaviors are automatic and entrenched that you might repeat them even though they don't feel right anymore. Clearly stating what you value can create a great filter when you need to make a decision. Does this choice align with your stated values?

What is the most draining item on your daily/weekly to-do list? What makes it so draining?

The contents of your life exists in the mundane, everyday tasks that serve to keep your alive and functioning. If there is something that you feel the need to do over and over again, and you find it to be difficult or draining, that can make for a miserable existence. Some things are difficult but worthwhile. Other things feel like pointless drudgery. It is worth untangling the story around the little things you need to do everyday and to figure out ways to make them less painful.

What is causing you the most unnecessary stress right now?

Stress is an inevitable part of existence and it is necessary for growth. When you push against the edges of your perceived limitations it can feel stressful but it makes you better. But there are some things that you invite or allow in your experience that don't serve your growth. They are just there, causing you worry, making you sick, or otherwise degrading your quality of life and ability to contribute. Do you need that right now?

If you could only choose three items to include on your to-do list for today, what would they be?

You may not start your day with a clear list of things to do, but if you don't, I encourage you to give it a try. You can either set your own agenda or end up on someone else's agenda. When you make list it might be ridiculously long and overwhelming. But remember the value filter. How much stuff on this list reflects what matters most to you? If it is something that comes up often, how can you make it more joyful or at least less painful? Three might seem like too small of a number. But it beats the 0's that you might put up when you are in the grips of chronic procrastination.
