This week, Kiza is joined by 4 guests: Sharon (Zimbabwe), Nusaiba (Rwanda), Julie (DRC), Confiance (DRC), all who are part of the MARs Youth Empowerment Movement. The conversation today explores their understanding of documentation and what comes to mind when they hear the word "documentation". The guests also share a little bit about their own journeys and reflect back to when they first arrived to South Africa.
This week's episode is all about documentation and the challenges faced by migrants when it comes to obtaining the relevant documents, with a focus on the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits, or ZEPs. Kiza and Rose are joined this week by special guests and Africa Unite Interns, Rachel Lee (USA), and Célia Azegagh (France).

It's been a while but we're back to amplify the voices of young people all throughout South Africa. This new segment focuses on highlighting the issues affecting the youth, especially those within the migrant community, on a daily basis. Our two cheerful hosts, Rose and Kiza, will be taking you on an exciting journey with each episode. The hosts of this show are part of the MARs Youth Empowerment Movement, which falls under the auspices of Africa Unite. MARs is a youth-led movement, by and for young motivated migrants between the ages of 15 to 25 who are driven to be change agents in their communities around South Africa. The movement seeks to educate migrants about their basic human rights so that they can advocate for themselves.
In this episode, Rose and Kiza give us a more detailed explanation of the work done by Africa Unite and MARs as well as the goals of the show, which include providing a safe space for marginalised communities and a platform to highlight the success stories of migrants in South Africa.
Happy Women’s Day to all! In the spirit of this momentous day and month where we celebrate the strong and courageous women who marched to Pretoria’s Union Buildings to petition against the country's pass laws in 1956, Africa Unite’s Nikelwa Mqwabalala spoke with three School Club members about what this day means to them. They discuss the state of women’s rights today, incredible women who inspire them, and what is left to do in order to ensure women’s rights to equality and dignity across the globe.
Last week, Africa Unite's very own Nikelwa Mqwabalala spoke with two School Club members to discuss what the first week back to school is like following South Africa's level four lockdown. Our guests share the challenges that learners face while returning to school such as stricter covid regulations in the classroom as well as the recent taxi conflict that has disrupted their communities. We hope you enjoy this conversation that sheds light on everything learners must overcome to access their education and the strength they have to persevere.
Africa Unite's Anti-xenophobia School Summit took place on Saturday, June 17th over Zoom and was attended by over 60 learners from 20 different schools across South Africa. We hope you enjoy listening to the incredible stories of these talented and inspiring young people who come from all different walks of life. Their speeches, testimonials and art sparked a rich dialogue among our participants on how to create more tolerant and accepting environments within their own schools and communities.
