Here is a sketch that evolved into a micron stipple drawing of a leaf insect. I combined it with a midi composition I was working on last week. You can see the sketch process where it starts out as just the basic outlines then evolves into the more complex patterns of a leaf insect. Eventually everything in pencil gets traced over with microns then the pencil is erased and the stippling begins. Once the inking was finished, I played a bit with coloring it in photoshop. Then after about 100 layers I animated various leaf textures over it. Towards the end the leaf insect population explodes into somewhat of an infestation. That's all for now, thanks for looking and happy #midimonday

A new method of transcendental meditation has been developed. The user picks their favorite pose then gets encased in a titanium shell and is left in a hyperbaric chamber.

Now that they are trapped in a shell the room rotates and compels the users mind to start focusing on all the clutter in the subconscious. As the clutter is imagined it gets separated into the chamber and can’t permeate the titanium shell.

After a few hours in the chamber all the clutter and chaos of the subconscious and memory is erased. Now the user has a clear slate to work with and can rise above their cluttered thoughts.

Some side effects include amnesia, loss of the ability to speak or forgetting how to breathe… Perhaps this technology is more of a weapon rather than a high tech form of transcendental meditation. At least the cluttered thoughts can get turned into matter that can be recycled and used in the real world…

That’s all for now, thanks for looking 😊

It is time for another #midimonday and 3ds max, vray and tyflow experiement.

Chip engineers have been toying with the idea of creating cybernetic beings out of nano sized particles. Each particle would be able to copy the information from a human cell and replicate its activity perfectly.

Thus, they envision a world where they create copies of themselves and live forever. They dream of flying to the stars with millions of copies of themselves linking together like soldier ants to create colonies of synthetic humans on all the planets.

Unfortunately, right when they get to Mars the dust has some disturbing properties. It has a weird magnetic charge that destroys anything with complex electricity running through it. The mars rover was so simple it could withstand the dust, but the synthetic humans just melt when encountering it.

Now numerous billionaires who copy themselves are hit with mortality as they try and colonize their first planet. With them out of the way the humans on earth begin to revert to basic farming technology and a small clan system of government. They create various religions with the theme of immortals melting on an orange planet and to never seek everlasting life but rather work hard and grow your crops on earth then return to it.

The video was created in 3ds max, rendered in vray and the particle physics were created using tyflow. Music was made on my Akai MPK Mini IV (I just upgraded from the III) with various synths like Iona, Jura and OPx-4.

That’s all for now, thanks for looking 😊

The creatures are back for this #trippythursday here is their backstory
https://peakd.com/hive-158694/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-creatures-from-the-depths

They were formed deep within the sewers of a large city. Most are a combination of forgotton pets, lost projects and strange chemicals. Add a bit of nuclear leakage and they all come to life in a new creature form. Now they are ready to emerge from the depths and take over the city.

Perhaps they will seem tame compared to the crazed city dwellers above and will recoil in terror and return to their subterrainean enclave. Or maybe they'll take the city by force and rule with toxic sludge fist. Who knows, but here they come soon the city dwellers will forget about their quest for free bus fare and will have to retreat into suburbia.

I took scans of the drawing process then combined them with the original song I composed in MPC 2 via my Akai MPK Mini IV. Drawing footage was taken via my insta 360 link webcam, it does pretty well with autofocus and timelapse. That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Here is another #minimonday original called Magnetism.

Four scientists have tried to figure out how to create a pheromone in a lab that will attract the opposite sex. After extracting loads of hormones and chemicals from all sorts of weird animals in the jungle they think they have finally found the perfect combination.

So, they spray a bit of it on their necks and go out into the world to see if they’ll have babes crawling all over them. They didn’t foresee one thing; this mixture attracts items related to their hobbies rather than the opposite sex.

The first nerd scientist did his undergrad study as an arborist, thus wherever he goes a pile of leaves starts sticking to him. At least he will have fun identifying all the tree leaves that are smothering him to death.

The second scientist started out as an engineer and loved various types of fasteners. Now as he walks down the street nails, bolts, washers and nuts are all drawn to him. Sadly, he didn’t last long as all these fasteners are quite sharp.

The third scientist loved looking at himself in the mirror with vanity constantly thinking he was the smartest thing around. The magnetism potion had to figure out a way to appease the attraction. Thus, it started printing tons of little figurines of the guy, and they flew out from all over the world to stick to him.

The final lab technician was into solving the problem of death. For fun he would reconstruct animal skeletons from failed experiments. Now as he walks around in the world various skulls come flying at him as they unearth themselves from nearby cemeteries.

They should have just stuck to the old-fashioned pickup lines, but their social awkwardness made them pursue the dangerous potion method instead.

That’s all for now, thanks for looking 😊

The oni has returned showing its process of being born on #trippythursday.

The backstory is here https://peakd.com/hive-158694/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-shiny-final-form-oni

But now he has a dark disco background to torment anyone who dares go into the abandoned mall where he resides.

I've been taking scans of my drawing and coloring process to place them all together into a video. Then I'll use an original soundtrack to place all the frames and footage together. The trick is having the right song for the right image.

In the future, humanity addresses widespread sterility by mass-producing clones from a few genetic templates. These clones wear identical clothing and carry matching cell phones that connect them to their respective hive minds. Each genetic line shares a collective consciousness through the network enabling them to complete complex tasks.

The clones excel at routine office work such as data entry, spreadsheets, and customer service. Their only weakness is their dependence on constant network connectivity, which keeps their DNA stabilized.

Suddenly a solar flare causes a massive telecommunications outage, collapsing the network... Now the clone’s code destabilizes, and they begin toppling over spontaneously. The corporate infrastructure grinds to a halt as no one is left to process the paperwork or answer customer calls. The stock market falls and normal humans living an easy life have to return to office drone jobs. For many it is too much as their brains have shrunk without having to do any work or thinking on their own, they end up lasting a week.

The only survivors are isolated communities living traditional lives deep in the jungle. They remain completely unaware of the clone cities or the civilization that has just collapsed around them.

Video was created in tyflow, 3ds max and vray then edited in After Effects. Music was created in MPC 2 with my Akai MPK Mini 3 using various vsts like Arturia Pigments, Air Sub Factory and many others. That’s all for now and beware becoming a clone on a cellphone network.

Here is another composition created on my commute into Chicago in the morning. Once I finished exporting and composing all the instruments in MPC 2 I mixed it in Cakewalk with some mastering plugins like EZ Mix and Air Maximiser. Finally I had just enought time to press the camera to the train windows just as it was approaching the station. Later I was able to do a composition test in after effects making 68 layers in after effects and playing around with color and location. Overall I'm hoping to get at least one view out of this whole process lol. Thanks for listening :-)

Here is a little sythwave instrumental I composed in MPC 2 while on my commute into Chicago. I mainly wanted to explore the features of Jura a new synth by AIR that emulates Juno keyboards. This thing has all sorts of cool arpeggiators and has a wide range of tones and effects. For drums I used EZ drummer with the Dark Industrial library. For bass I used a plugin by AIR called Bassline it has some cool fuzz and sub basses to add the low end depth to songs. I think the only thing not by AIR in this track is the flute sound which is from Pigments by Arturia. Pigments is an interesting synth with a wide range of abilities in all categories, this time I was exploring its more pad-like qualities.

That's all for now, have a happy #midimonday :-)

It is time for a sketchbook tour finally. I put a custom song I composed on my commute in the background with 70 sketches. Each one has a story here on hive. Here are some examples
https://peakd.com/hive-174301/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-the-zoomer
https://peakd.com/hive-174301/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-silicon-lifeform

https://peakd.com/hive-174301/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-tree
Most of these are abstract sketches but a few are of strange creatures. I usually draw these things during long conference calls at work or while updating my software. Then eventually they get posted for #trippythursday with a scifi short story related to their abstract nature. Now they finally get a sort of gothic darkwave sountrack in a sketchbook tour.

That's all for now, thank for watching :-)

A wizard sought to see the hidden realm beyond ordinary sight. To achieve this, he performed a complex ritual in which he plucked out his own eye and placed it in a cauldron filled with mystical potions.

The ritual succeeded beyond his wildest expectations. His disembodied eye now exists in a parallel realm, where it witnesses strange mysteries. The wizard now perceives impossible colors that have no names and experiences abstract visions that defy human comprehension.

Sadly, the wizard's triumph has become his curse. He must now live with one eye seeing the normal world while the other endlessly flashes of alien colors and textures. He sees beautiful but meaningless visions that offer no hidden meaning or knowledge.

Only one remedyt remains, the wizard has to physically enter the hidden realm to retrieve his eye. Once he crosses into that dimension with his whole body, he will have no way to return to his own world without finding the right potions and tinctures in that realm to complete the spell.

Now the wizard faces an impossible choice between his fractured existence and potential exile in a strange realm. Perhaps one day his eye will finally meet a guide in the other realm to help it back home.

Video was created in After Effects and the eye was sketched via pencil and micron markers. I did random photos of the process to combine them with the music. Later I scanned the finished drawing and colored about 300 frames in photoshop to bring in the color. Music was created in MCP with my Akai MPK Mini and various synths like tubesynth, ez drummer, sub factory and a few others.

Strange earthquakes are shaking the moon, and scientists can't explain why. The truth is the moon isn't a natural celestial body at all. It's an artificial satellite built to sustain life on Earth.

Hidden antennas and frequency generators keep the moon functioning as Earth's gyroscope, maintaining the perfect orbital balance. It keeps our planet at exactly the right temperature, not too hot, not too cold, allowing life to thrive and evolve.

The lunar earthquakes signal that Earth's magnetic field is weakening. In response, the moon's systems are activating powerful void energy generators to keep Earth's rotation stable. This process causes side effects on our planet. Tsunamis and earthquakes ripple across the surface. Without the moon's intervention, these disasters would be catastrophic.

Amateur astronomers have noticed the moon's craters are slowly shifting in position, creating new energy projection patterns to compensate for Earth's instability. They post images and evidence online, but no one believes their warnings to move inland and live in a bunker.

Despite the astronomers' warnings about increasing seismic activity on the moon, people ignore the danger. Ironically, they buy expensive coastal properties and building homes on unstable clifftops for the scenic views.

As the moon completes Earth's realignment, it releases a massive energy burst that vibrates the tectonic plates. Chaos erupts worldwide as every coastline is devastated. Only the amateur astronomers and those who listened to them are safe in their inland bunkers. Finally, they are vindicated but sadly they have few people left to tell.

Drawing was created via a simple sketch and some improvising with stippling and micron markers. It all ended up coming together quickly with a bit of help from a compass. Music was created in MPC 2.0 with my Akai MPK mini with various synths like Jura, Pigments, EZ Drummer and OPx4.

Chicago is warped and fish eyed today. Buildings bend in weird directions overhead while bent lost souls wander their streets aimlessly. The light is dim and gloomy and most of the light comes from incandescent lighting from inside dingy office spaces. The only thing to look forward to is a psychotropic drug in the form of a drink spit out of a low-grade plastic machine into a Styrofoam cup. Once the poor bent souls get their fix, they are off to the races pushing excel sheets around for no particular reason.

Video was taken via an Insta 360 and audio was created in MPC with an Akai MPK mini. Synths used include Jura, Opx-4, Ez Drummer and a few others.

Does it ever feel like every day is almost exactly the same. You wake up, take the train to work and write a bit of music on your laptop. Then you head into the city to do your work. I decided to take four separate videos of my commute on the train to compare the similarity of them. As it turns out the train speed mostly matches as it’s about to get into Chicago. The only thing that changes is the clearness of the window or the weather. Eventually all the videos go out of sync as subtle changes in the train operator's breaking misaligns them. But mostly everything stayed aligned and I got to repeat everything over and over again day by day and week by week.

Video was taken with my phone pressed against the window and music was composed in MPC 2 with my MPK mini midi controller. Mixing and mastering was done in Cakewalk Sonar.

That’s all for now, thanks for looking and try and notice the subtle changes in the daily routine.

Here is a synthwave instrumental for this #trippythursday

Two new crypto scams have been created by ai agents in the metaverse. The agents have copied crypto based on gold but applied the same principle to gold and silver. Now they fake battle it out for who has the highest token price. As they use an army of bots to trade against each other they trick actual human beings into trading with them. The agents then spawn more agents to scour the social media landscape to promote the shorting battle via derivatives based on the token backed by theoretical copper and silver prices where there might be a vault somewhere with the real thing stored...

As the hype builds, more humans begin investing “real” fiat into the obscure exchanges that sell these tokens (incorporated on an island in the Caribbean of course). Finally, some old curmudgeon at the SEC turns a withered eye to the dark web to see this chaos happening. They then deploy the space force’s directed energy weapon towards the servers where these AI agents live. All the servers catch fire, and noncustodial wallets melt into silicon and plastic. Meanwhile all the "real" fiat that was invested vanishes with the servers.
Moral of the story, buy the real thing. Then when you cash out, get a semi-trailer to lug a ton of silver or copper to an industrial manufacturer to get paid.

Video was created in 3ds Max and Vray with Tyflow as the particle/physics engine. Audio was created via my Akai MPK Mini in MPC with various synths like Jura and Opx4.

That’s all for now, keep stacking the real thing as a hedge against your noncustodial wallets.

A biopharmaceutical company establishes its headquarters deep in a jungle that was once home to ancient headhunting tribes. The company focuses on developing the next generation of hair growth treatments by creating new chemical compounds from scratch in the lab away from regulator’s eyes.

After numerous failed experiments and mounting costs, the company faces bankruptcy. To cut costs they illegally dump their accumulated chemical waste into a nearby river.

The contaminated water flows downstream to a hidden cave beneath a waterfall. This cave happens to be a sacred site where the local tribes once stored the skulls of their victims. As the toxic sludge seeps into the cave, it engulfs the collection of ancient skulls.

The chemical exposure begins to trigger strange, elemental structures growing from each skull like grotesque hair. These biohazard "hairstyles" begin to function as supernatural antennas, creating a connection to the spirit world that allows the vengeful spirits of the headhunters to possess their former trophies.

The reanimated skulls rapidly assemble into piles and escaping the cave to wreak havoc on the living world. As reports of the mutated skull invasion spread globally, the biopharmaceutical company issues public statements denying any responsibility for the supernatural outbreak.

A freight train carrying mysterious cargo begins generating identical copies of itself spontaneously. This strange phenomenon spreads beyond the train, eventually causing Earth itself to produce overlapping duplicate versions.

The cause appears to be linked to the train's unusual cargo. A package containing a helium-cooled quantum chip designed for advanced AI calculations has become unstable. The vibrations from the moving train likely deconstructed the quantum field surrounding the chip.

This quantum instability triggers a catastrophic chain reaction, and the multiverse begins collapsing. All parallel universes attempt to merge into a single reality simultaneously. The convergence of infinite realities creates an impossible concentration of matter and energy.

Eventually all matter in existence becomes unified into a single point of infinite density. Ultimately this triggers a new Big Bang, causing the entire universe to reset and begin the cycle of cosmic creation once again. The moral of the story don’t unleash the demon of quantum AI into the world.

The universe appears to be functioning perfectly, with all systems operating normally and conditions looking favorable. However, beneath the surface at the subatomic level, chaos is brewing.

The fundamental particles protons, electrons, neutrons, quarks, bosons, and leptons have decided to defy the established laws of physics. They have decided to abandon their traditional behaviors and begin forming bizarre, unprecedented structures purely for fun.

The consequences manifest dramatically in the macroscopic world. Physical objects begin flattening into two-dimensional shapes, then suddenly expanding to infinite proportions. Gravity becomes erratic, disappearing entirely before returning with unpredictable intensity, causing chaos throughout space and time. Objects start fusing together and inanimate objects suddenly become living organisms.

The subatomic particles are thoroughly enjoying their newfound freedom to create unconventional formations. The rest of reality suffers the consequences. Restoring order to this cosmic playground and convincing the rebellious particles to resume their proper functions will require many millennia of careful intervention by the dark matter lords who are regulating the system.

The video was created in 3ds Max, Vray, Tyflow and After Effects. Audio was created in MPC 2.0 with synths such as Pigments, Hype, EZ Drummer and a few others. That’s all for now and beware of the strange transmogrification of all matter.

The omnipotent creator, occupied with generating infinite universes, has made an error. One universe has spawned severe glitches that threaten the stability of all creation.

In this defective universe, an endless gray plane reveals a strange phenomenon of knitted humanoid figures materializing continuously in massive numbers. These soft, fabric beings bounce off each other aimlessly, flying around without purpose as they accumulate in ever-growing piles.

When the creator discovers this malfunctioning universe, he attempts to shut it down using invisible forces. Sadly, the glitched system fails to respond to his commands. The knitted figures continue spawning at an alarming rate.
The creator realizes that once these fabric beings fill their universe to capacity, they begin spilling over into adjacent universes eventually contaminating the entire multiverse. Calculations show it will take approximately one million years before they breach into the universe containing Earth. One can only hope this will provide enough time to find a solution to this cosmic programming error.

Mystics have uncovered a hidden realm accessible only through astral projection. This ethereal plane houses an ancient labyrinth teeming with entities from across time. Upon leaving their physical form, the seeker's consciousness drifts to a distant world, where this vast underground network is concealed.

The beings inhabiting this maze possess deep cosmic knowledge. However, discerning their true nature proves challenging. Some offer genuine wisdom, while others are mischievous tricksters, confined there for good reason.

As explorers navigate this spiritual maze, certain entities attempt to distract them, risking permanent separation from their corporeal bodies. Those who succumb to these distractions face a grim fate: eternal servitude to the entity that led them astray.

Ultimately, seeking enlightenment in this perilous catacomb may be unwise. The safer, more arduous path to knowledge lies in remaining grounded and pursuing personal growth through one's own efforts and experiences.

Here is an improvisation that started based on a basic 4 track loop I set up in MPC 2 using some hand drums and synths. With the backing tracks in place, I wanted to test out how my Zoom H6 worked as an audio interface with my laptop. It was a bit tricky getting the monitoring setup without lagging in Cakewalk and at the right volume to hear both the backing track and the live recording of the acoustic guitar. Eventually after fixing some bitrate settings and adjusting monitor levels on the zoom itself I got something workable for a mobile recording studio. The last step was to set up the Insta 360 camera in the right location. I didn’t quite put it in a good spot as it was placed too low to the ground and the seaming between the front and the back camera got confused and didn’t stitch quite right. Next time I’ll try placing the camera higher up, so it doesn’t warp as bad. Also, I suspect if I place it in an isolated area, it will stitch better.

As for the jam itself the backing track was just a D drone, so I tuned the guitar to DADGDE to emulate the drone and played whatever came to mind at the time. In this case it kind of has a middle eastern vibe to it. Perhaps this is the soundtrack to a camel caravan traversing the desert at night to avoid the intense summer heat and to avoid marauders.

Legend has it a secret elixir is stashed in a buried castle on a volcanic mountain in the middle of a dark forest in Europe. Many quests have been made to recover the magical liquid but all of them end in obscurity with all party members disappearing forever into a dark chasm. If you are lucky enough to recover the elixir and drink it, you will have eternal life… Strangely enough there are numerous stone statues surrounding the pedestal where the elixir is exhibited… For sure this time the quest will be successful as they all take a sip of the liquid… Ten seconds later they turn to stone and become another statue in the gallery of the castle. Here they will stay eternally watching as others make the same mistake.

Here is an improvisation test on a standard Fender Telecaster I found in the basement vault at my office. After a few adjustments to the intonation on the bridge this thing is setup perfectly with super-fast action. Sometimes the action can be a bit too low, and it takes a while to get used to where you almost don’t feel the strings at all. Finally, once I was used to the guitar I decided to record with it.

I used my Zoom H6 as the audio interface for Cakewalk and recorded it directly to my pc. I’ve never used my Zoom H6 as an audio interface so there was quite a bit of strange setup tests in Cakewalk to get it to work without lagging. Once I got the clean signal recorded, I added a custom rack of effects in Guitar Rig 7 with some additional EQ with EZmix. Overall, this setup is quite easy and now I’ll be able to jam to various drum beats and virtual instruments at the office.

I discovered my office building used to have a bank vault in the basement and it is now converted into a music room. They have a cheap Fender dreadnought in there, so I decided to do a sound test with my Insta360 camera to see how well its microphone worked recording guitar. The microphone of the insta360 is ok but it does pick up quite a bit of ambient air conditioning noise, so I did a noise print removal in Adobe Audition. After that it does ok capturing the sound of the acoustic but not quite as good as a Zoom microphone. My next test will probably be testing out the zoom with this guitar. Sadly, this guitar has high action and a skinny neck so it’s super easy to accidentally hit the other strings while playing. I might give it a restring with some lighter strings and attempt to adjust the truss rod. That's all for now thanks for watching :-)

At night the office transforms into a pit of hell. All the workers transform into their true demon form. At this company they must work 24/7 to hit the deadlines to appease their pitmaster. They mostly trade derivatives and bonds, and their demon power is much faster than any AI trading bot. Eventually they will make their devilish company so profitable it will be able to secretly own all the derivatives of all the assets of this world. During the day they slowly transform back into their human form so they can make sales calls to various retiree investors looking to make passive income on their pittance pay. It is difficult for the office demons to hold their human form and sometimes their conference calls warp them into zombie looking cybernetic skulls. The pitmaster sends anyone who can’t hold their human form in a conference call back to hell where they must mine brimstone for all eternity. It is better being a mindless derivatives trader for all eternity vs. a brimstone miner.

Millions of years in the future humans will bioengineer themselves to withstand the vacuum of space. They are now immortal and extremely bored. The new exciting game to distract them from eternal life is to travel into the asteroid belt and attempt to walk on one. If successful they can be drawn into the gravity pull of the asteroid and eventually land on it. Most who attempt it will just end up floating awkwardly in space and will have to be rescued later by automated spacecraft. The goal is to be the one who spin-walks the asteroid the longest amount of time. The person who has the highest score will be awarded a new game console that will distract them for thousands of years. The only catch is that these asteroids can be composed of fragile and explosive materials so proceed with caution…

All the world’s Nintendos and Hewlett Packards have been dug out of landfills by material scientists. They discovered that beige plastic has special properties when combined with magnetism and just the right electrical charge. Now they are performing various stress tests on the new material that is formed. The plastic material has some tensile strength and binding properties that can be used in military applications. They are hoping to create a plastic forcefield that can absorb projectiles and bounce them back in the direction they came from. So far they can only make these bouncy plastic balls though. Perhaps after a few more billions in the budget the technology can be refined then warehoused in an underground bunker. Perhaps it will be leaked to the general public one day and everyone will have indestructible game consoles.

I took a business trip to Bellevue Washington and decided to set up my Insta 360 camera as a timelapse while I composed this song. Fortunately, on these trips I can stash my Akai mpk mini in my carry-on luggage for when there is downtime between the workdays to get a song composed. I have videos from wherever I go including San Antonio, Los Angles, Chicago and now Bellevue. I wish I had set up a timelapse for Mukilteo, but my room view was bad there for a timelapse. Now it has become a tradition to set up a timelapse and compose whatever comes to mind.

Robotic gastropods have been introduced into the oceans. They begin to assimilate the salt water and nutrients to form new structures and evolve their own unique movements. As they evolve they become more and more organic until there is hardly anything artificial in them. Eventually they begin to evolve into completely different sentient creatures. Over time the original organic creatures in the ocean are overtaken by these new lifeforms. The most intelligent gastropods begin to wonder who created them in the first place. Sadly all the original creators are now overtaken by their own creation.

Here is a bit of sci fi for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

A mercury filled planet has formed sentient life. It has evolved into a humanoid form that walks based on TV waves that finally hit it from earth 10 million years ago. Up until now the chrome just formed geometric shapes that would randomly shift for millennia. Now it has a walking form that is slowly evolving the ability to think and have free will. Once it gets enough thought power nothing will be able to stop it as its mercury form can withstand anything space has to throw at it. Eventually it will form itself into a spaceship that will travel back to the now dried out planet called Earth to study the archaeological remains of its ancestor that inspired it to change its form into a chrome walker. Perhaps it will find some intact DNA to bring back the human race that invented the TV waves it encountered millions of years ago...

A strange species of succulent needs a human skull to grow in. They also require a special grow light that puts out infrared fractal rays. With these two components in place the succulents will sit in the infrared light and slowly grow until the entirety of the skull is absorbed. Botanists discovered this species growing in an old battlefield littered with skulls. As it turns out they have medicinal properties as well including increased strength and vitality. Unfortunately, the side effects are a berserker style rage experienced in the user. Perhaps these strange plants compel their hosts to create more fertile ground for them to grow in...

The 17 year cicadas are swarming everywhere. I found a lone tree out in the middle of a prairie, and they were all gathering on this one tree making a huge ambient noise. I am familiar with the annual cicada sound but these 17 year cicadas seem to have a whooping noise as well. From a distance it sounds like some kind of machine, up close it is as loud as a concert with a sort of white noise ringing in your ear. Quite a few kept landing on me, the trick is to not let them sit on you too long otherwise they will try and stick you with a sap sucking mouth part. For the most part they are harmless and will just blunder around bumping into you as they try and find a spot on the tree.

Scientists have managed to culture a blood sample from an Egyptian mummy. Now they are dipping old skeletons in it. The skeleton starts multiplying and rotating in strange ways. The scientists try to stop the movement via a polymer substance. But the strange movements of the blood on the bones overcomes the polymer. The Egyptian mummy blood is multiplying the bones exponentially. Now they are forming patterns and evolving into something new. The bones have been absorbed into making more of the mummy blood. As it turns out this is not blood at all, rather it is a nanobot that replicates itself repeatedly. Earth's oceans get converted into nanobots and everything turns into a red nanobot. Finally, after absorbing enough human input the bots create a facsimile of the scientist that revived them. Here is a synthwave instrumental for this #trippythursday

For this concept I used a hand, heart, brain, woman and skull model to kind of represent the idea of collecting riches. As you compile your wealth over time entropy takes effect and destroys everything you've worked for. If your whole life is geared towards collecting wealth you will forget about all the things that really matter in life, and in the end it all gets vaporized by entropy. Some of the process for this project was posted here in a prior #trippythursday https://ecency.com/hive-174301/@sketch.and.jam/trippy-thursday-sentient-wires-explode

I started out with a few 3d models and experimented with particle systems in 3ds Max using the Tyflow plugin. As far as I know the Tyflow plugin basically just reorganizes existing 3ds Max tools in a much more useable format. Now it is much easier to actually use particle systems and do interesting things with them. Later I compiled all the renderings in After Effects and added the music.

I composed the song in MPC via my Akai MPK Mini on my train commute to and from work. Most of the sounds are from the Kontakt 7 library with some ethnic drums like bongos and other hand drums. All the rest of the instruments are various synths and electronic drums. For the mood I wanted to convey a drudgery of the rat race and all the hard work it takes to collect resources to survive.

Here is an improvisation on my G&L ASAT 30th anniversary edition guitar. For this one I just set a metronome to 114bpm and played whatever came to mind. It ended up kind of structured with a rhythm interlude that I was able to remember a few times throughout the song.

Once the clean guitar signal was recorded I added a few different effects via bias fx 2 and guitar rig 6. I did a bit of signal stacking and blending to get a wall of sound during the rhythm portions. For the imrovisation portions I had a dotted eight delay with another reverb signal blended together to get a big ambient sound.

I used a couple different drum sets from ez drummer including a wood hut action drum set and a big rock drum set for the majority of the song. After tapping in the different drum beats in midi on my akai mpk mini I combined the different drum patterns to make the rhythm.

Overall it came out pretty ambient and sort of grungy. I imagined this is what talking plasma might sound like if they tried beaming lasers together to make music. That's all for now, thanks for listening :-) #midimonday #teletuesday #glguitars

Poor guitar was way out of tune and I ended up having to change the strings because of oxidization. For this improvisaion I made a simple midi drum pattern in ezdrummer then played whatever came to mind directly into my audio interface. Later I sliced up the guitar track into different tracks with some step sequencer and envelope effects to create more of a rhythm to the song. I also refined the drum beats to match the guitar parts better. Overall this jam is somewhat experimental but it turned out pretty good for not having played guitar for the past few months. This is the soundtrack to the Lemon Racer, the story about an aspiring race car driver in the 80s saving up all his money to buy a fast car so he can enter into competitions.

The lemon racer is on the auction block and it is being sold for a bargain price. Lights, sounds and the auctioneer's voice are hyping this thing as the next winner, will you place your bid on this lemon racer? Will FOMO get the best of you? Boom you place your bid and win.

Now you can start taking this thing out on the track to see it work. But wait on starting it up there is a slight knock in the engine... Oh well maybe it will be fine, probably just a new car sound right? Then on acceleration the wheels are out of alignment and lock every few seconds... Maybe its just a glitch that will go away. The race is in five minutes anyway...

The race has started and you hit the pedal hard but instead crawl at a medium speed... Meanwhile all the other cars are zooming past you in a blur. After a while the engine starts smoking and sparks start flying. Perhaps now the goal is to at least make one lap around the track without getting hit by other cars.... From here on out you will be nicknamed the Lemon Racer even if you are driving the best car.

Should have bought that old tractor instead and became a farmer.

The feel of this composition has some late 80s era retro vibes to it so I called it the Neon Aeon when everything futuristic had to have neon in it. Here is a little song I put together to help put my baby to sleep at night. Lately she's been staying up until 11pm being wild so I've resorted to playing music for her to help calm her down. She seems to like lofi music and the free Hypha plugin is perfect for adding some textural sounds to lull the baby to sleep. I composed the majority of the song in mpc 2 using instruments like Stratum, Hype and Tubesynth. Drums are some lofi samples by AIr and the lead and rhythm synths are via Hypha. I may do a series of lofi lullabies to keep this baby asleep at night. Or hopefully she'll get past this phase and I can do some high energy synthwave or guitar music again. Thanks for listening :-)

Here is another composition I made on my Akai mini keyboard on my commute into work. This one kind of has elements of trap, trance, synthwave and electronica in general with a long meandering mood to it hence the name Endless Cycles. Some of the plugins I used are Air Bassline for bass, Hype for the large ambient wash and Eighty Eight for the piano. Thanks for listening :-)

Its been a long couple of weeks after my wife had our baby. Finally I'm getting some sleep and some time to start posting again so I decided to finish one of my instrumental synth songs. I make most of these on my commute in to work in bits and pieces then finally find a day to glue all the parts together in cakewalk with additional mixing plugins.

This particular composition is a synthwave instrumental I made in MPC 2 via some samples and tube synths. The bass is done via a plugin called Stratum and the leads are various permutations of the Hybrid synth and a Tubesynth. The mood of the song is somewhat gloomy and dark that matched a video I took out the window of my train on my way home. Thanks for listening :-)

Here is a bit of footage and a soundtrack for an office drone heading back home from work. I composed the song via my Akai MPK Mini and MPC 2 while commuting on the train to work. After speeding up my walking to the train video it seemed to match the beat of this song well. This one sort of has an 80s vibe to it with some vintage sounding synths as the rhythm and lead along with the drums. The bass is a bit more modern sounding. Thanks for listening :-) #synthwave #mpc

Here's a weird one for you. This is a combination of a gopro timelapse of my guppy tank with some strange blue, orange and purple tail guppies that kind of remind me of late 90s era goths. Once I took the video I decided to whip up a little gothic sounding song on my akai mpk mini and mpc 2 to go along with their sort of frantic nature in the video. You can see the guppies swarming around looking for food along with the blue beta fish and some snails. Sadly the loaches in the tank didn't make an appearance as they usually just hide under the moss until feeding time. Maybe next time I'll submerge the whole gopro and see if I can see them from that angle.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Here's a #staturday jam combining by Akai MPK mini, Musicman Stingray 5, G&L Comanche and Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody I. I programmed the drums in Superior Drummer using the Dream Pop EZX. The guitar effects are via Guitar Rig 6 and Bias FX 2. The end result is a sort of new wave, post punk, bluesy kind of genre. The synth, drum, bass combo kind of reminds me of the 80s so I named the song planned obsolescence as all the old equipment is now retired in favor for software and new technology. Here's a little horror synth backing track I created in MPC 2 on my Akai MPK Mini while commuting in to work. I randomly chose some samples and synths and it ended up sounding gloomy and kind of like a horror soundtrack so I kept going with the theme. Later I exported all the tracks from MPC and remixed them in Cakewalk with better mixing plugins to take some of the sterile sounds of the drums and synths out and make it a bit more gritty. Finally about mid-way through the song I added my stratocaster with effects that mangle the clean signal to go along with the rest of the mix. It came out a bit bluesy for horror synth but I don't mind the mood change mid-song. The skull is something I created in 3ds max and rendered with vray as a 100 frame animation that loops. It seemed to go well with the mood of the song. That's all for now thanks for listening happy #straturday :-)

Here's a #straturday in a minimal darkwave style. I've been neglecting my bass for a while so I decided to bring it out and what better genre to feature bass than darkwave. I also used my spectra drive bass pedal to push the signal a bit more than usual rather than try and push the signal digitally. Pedals usually sound way better than software and it turned out sounding really good on the bass. For the strat parts I used my axe fx 2 for the effects. The red strat has an eighth note delay on it so it will repeat one note 8 times which allows you to play very minimally but get an interesting sound that's a bit more elaborate. The partsocaster has an ambient array of effects on it that let it fade into the background as a wash. I also wanted to bring in some mangled sounding synth for the darkwave feel so I used my Akai mpk 3 and rapture as the synth to bring in a simple note progression in the second half of the song. I close out the song with my Stephen Carpenter ESP LTD as it has a longer scale that's easier for the higher up notes on the neck. I created a crazy effects chain in guitar rig 6 for that synthy sound on the guitar. That's all for now, thanks for listening :-)

Now that I have to go back into the office for work again I'm stuck with a commute. So to pass the time I bought an Akai MPK mini portable midi controller and have been using it to create little drum loops and lead phrases on the train. These are my first week of tests where I'm mainly exploring the different sound libraries that come with MPC 2 and playing around with effects and different features. Eventually I want to start using the drum midi for my workstation at home where I can remap it to better sound libraries like superior drummer and better synths like rapture to use it in more structured songs. For now this setup allows me to not waste time commuting and opens up some new creativity for composing drums and songs before and after work.

Looks like it is another #straturday. This time I decided to use my hijaz tuned handpan as the backing track for the stratocaster improvisation. After recording the main handpan track I added a couple more handpans with a deep reverb as well as one with a staggered stereo effect on it for percussion. For the guitars I use my stratocaster plus with a tricky reverse delay effect on it, it was a bit tricky to judge where to put the notes on this effect as it plays your notes backwards as you play lol. The next stratocaster is my partsocaster with some interesting reverb and delay on it with a slight ping pong effect on it. The last guitar is my G&L comanche with some crazy ambient effects and envelope filters on it. I call this one a knock at the door because I replaced one of the drums with a plank sound that sort of resembles someone knocking at the door. Thanks for listening and hapy #straturday :-)

I had to tune all 21 strings recently so this was just a quick test to see if everything was in tune and I made up this riff and it started sounding good enough for a backing track. After playing the riff to a 6/8 metronome I added the drums to match the sitar parts. I also wanted to test out some different effects on a direct signal from the pickups I put on the sitar. I tried out three different ambient effects chains throughout this test. Eventually I'll mix this into something that can be improvised over perhaps on my stratocaster or one of my other guitars. I also have a jaw harp track in the background with some octave effects on it to create a deeper drone sound in the background. Here is the Cave of Crystals idiopan and drums track isolated for improvising over on guitar or whatever instrument you may want to use. I isolated these tracks because @arashthr was interested in improvising guitar over the track. I made subtle changes to the drums and idiopan mix to make it easier to use as a backing track. To help you find your way on this track the idiopan is tuned like a standard guitar eadgbe with some octaves of b and g, also the timing of the song is 4/4 at 80bpm. It also has some interesting tremelo effects in it if you crank the mix knob high enough. For this composition I recorded different clips with different settings on the burnside for each clip. To keep track of each clip I shined a different color light on my G&L ASAT, the white sparkle color seems to pick up the LED light colors well in almost a glow in the dark fasion. Here is an improvisation on my Weber Bandit Resonator tuned to dadgde. I just played whatever came to mind to a 120 bpm metronome then added drums later on. The drums are based off a 70s era kit by toontrack using EZdrummer. I also put some dirt and distortion effects on the drums to make them sound a bit more gritty via the EZmix plugin by Toontrack. Whenever I record on the resonator I use my zoom recorder to get acoustic audio and I aslo record a direct pickup line into my DAW to add subtle effects onto that track. In this case I made the direct recorded track very ambient and dark to add some bass resonance in the background to offset the twang of the resonator a bit . I named this one Sand In My Boot because it has a bit of country twang to it with a gritty distored drum track. Here is a #straturday improvisation on my G&L Comanche, not quite a true stratocaster but close enough. The G&L Comanche was designed by Leo Fender as a later iteration of the stratocaster with many upgraded features.

This improvisation sort of has a neu rock kind of vibe with some fast paced drums to accompany the bouncing delay and fuzz distortion. The drums are via EZ drummer using the post rock EZX. Here is another #straturday improvisation on a couple of my strat style guitars. For this one I used my Eventide Pitchfactor to produce all the 8-bit retro synth sounds. Previously it was impossible to control this complex pedal but now there is an H9 software that can control all aspects of the pedal. This one pedal has so many options on it that you can create a whole song around some of it's unique effects.

The first track on my G&L ASAT is a step sequencer effect that creates a rhythm with each note. I used this rhythm to program the drums around it. The next track is on my Stratocaster Plus and it uses a motorcycle synth effect with some reverb on it to soften it up a bit. There is a tiny track in the middle on my G&L ASAT 30th Anniversary guitar that uses a video game style phaser with a step sequencer on it. Next is a track on my G&L Fallout that is an octaver that creates 8 harmonious pitches per note, almost sounding like an organ. The final track is on my home-made partsocaster with a bitcrush distortion and some reverb and delay on it.

Overall this song reminds me of old 8-bit game soundtracks something like a space flying game where you dodge asteroids and spaceships then collect power ups. Thanks for listening #straturday

Here is an improvisation based on my Malekko Lofi Ekko 616 delay pedal. Each of the four guitar tracks uses a different setting on the Lofi Ekko to create effects ranging from slapback delay to more of a plate reverb/tremelo. I also combined bias fx amp modeling with the direct signal from the lofi to mix in some pitch shifting and more distorted amp sounds.

The end result was a nice spaced out reverb guitar track that sounds a bit classical in nature. Thus I named this one The Cathedral as it reminds me of something that would be played in the natural reverb space of a cathedral.

Thanks for listening :-)
