Which of these diets are really good for cardiovascular health?

Based on current evidence, can we give a heart sign or a go in recommending diets such as DASH Diet, Mediterranean Diet, and Plant-based Diet for cardiovascular disease prevention and management? Will also cover other diets like MIND, TLC,  ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting.

Here’s a quick review of what these diets are, their main features and how to implement them. I’ll also emphasize their strengths and potential nutritional issues based on their protocols. I'll also share my verdict and recommendations for cardiovascular disease prevention using precise nutrition and lifestyle interventions.

If you are hurting or not feeling totally “well” from an injury or disease, or from a “toxic” relationship, painful break-up, complex community or organizational conflict, longstanding family issues, or traumatic experience, this may help. Give healing a chance and I hope listening to this can give a form of enlightenment and help support healing in your own lives.

Listen to the second part of my conversation w/ Dr. Bem and I hope this can give a form of enlightenment and pave way for healing in your own lives.

*Dr. Cymbeline Tantongco Culiat is a scientist, teacher, a molecular geneticist whose postdoctoral work involved identifying the functions of genes sequenced in the Human Genome Project, where she discovered the role of a novel signaling protein in tissue formation during early development and in the healing of tissues after severe injuries or disease. She is the co-author of the book, designed to Heal.

Healing is vital to health and well-being. It may be healing from physical wounds, injuries, acute or chronic diseases. However, we may not only have physical wounds and scars, but also emotional, relational, spiritual, and social wounds; some may even be rooted to our distant past, childhood, while some are recent. All of these need to be processed well for real restoration to take place.

These are different dimensions of healing discussed in the book, Designed to Heal. It opened my eyes to a lot of parallelisms of the process of physical healing to other dimensions of healing - emotional, spiritual, relational, social, from an individual to societal level. It also raised a lot of things to digest and more questions about this amazing process that can give hope and peace, as well as better well-being to many people.

In this episode, I will be talking to the co-author of the book who is also a scientist (molecular geneticist), teacher and entrepreneur, Dr. Cymbeline Tancongco Culiat (Dr. Bem). Listen to my conversation w/ Dr. Bem and hope this can give a form of enlightenment and pave way for true healing in your own lives.

Last year, everyone´s talking about the new or better normal, but instead of reviving that phrase, we might rather ask ourselves, are we moving towards that state or to a healthier place with better ways of approaching things, esp. when it comes to taking good care of our own body, our health?

This episode will cover the “essentials” in taking good care of our health and wellness, as part of self-care, that we should remember as we are continuously challenged by the pandemic.

In this episode, it is an honor and a great pleasure to talk to one my mentors in functional nutrition practice, one of the doctors whom I closely work with in managing patients w/ combination of conditions that seem very complex & challenging, but through a systems biology approach, a functional medicine approach, he is able to solve pieces of the puzzle and naturally biohack the system, give hope and empowerment more importantly to a lot of people. Dr. Rolando “Oyie” Balburias.

Get to know what Phytonutrients are and their vital role in our health. Learn how you can practically incorporate them in your diet. Our guest, Dr. Liezel Marinay-Atienza, a Functional Food & Health Researcher, Clinical Nutrition & Nutritional Biochemistry Professor in UPLB highlighted our very own resources in the Philippines such as our indigenous berries such as bignay and lipote as some of the excellent sources of these phytonutrients. She also shared preliminary results of her own research regarding its application to disease prevention and management.

More tips were given during our fast talk segment where Prof. Liezl was asked yes or no questions about nutrition; as well as pick one food item among a selection.

Through this, we hope you'll realize why we, Nutritionist-Dietitians, have been bugging you to eat variety and different colors of vegetables, fruits and other plant-based food; why moderation and balance in diet are highly essential.
