It's a back to school special! Caitlin & Regina spend time reflecting on why they became a teacher and what keeps them grounded in education. We also spend some time discussing how our identity impacts us as educators.
In this episode, Caitlin & Regina sit down with recent high school graduates to discuss what their experience was like taking an Ethnic Studies course with content that has been outlawed in several states in the US. Students reflect on how their African American and Latinx studies class impacted the way they view their community, city, and country--as well as give us insight into why a class like "AALS" is so important. We also dive into what type of educator should teach courses like this, and what a good educator, in general, is like.
Caitlin & Regina reflect on the past school year while explaining the nuances of teaching an ethnic studies course that can be illegal to teach in other states. We also get into what critical race theory means to us, and how being a teacher is deep-rooted in our identities.
