Jake continues out Jonah series as Jonah finally goes to the city to tell them to turn back to God. Their response is completely unexpected...
If you've ever heard the story of Jonah you probably remember he was swallowed by a whale (big fish). You may remember hearing the story in children's church when you were young or perhaps you've just heard it throughout culture over the years. Sometimes the stories we learn when we are young...we write off because it seems like a kids story. But the story of Jonah is anything but a kids story. It is a brilliantly written book of the bible. Short and to the point. But PACKED with meaning and allegory.
One of the ways we grow deeper in our faith is by studying these stories that were capture for US. We will learn as we trek through this tale that we should see ourselves in Jonah every step of the way.

So how does the journey end? We all need to take time to deconstruct our faith beliefs because often things get added to our faith in Jesus that shouldn't be there by well meaning people. But once we strip away what isn't necessary and isn't found in scripture, where do we go from here? In this message, Evan Graham our Waldo Campus pastor, does a masterful job of connecting the ancient art of Kintsugi to how Saul Reconstructed his faith upon meeting Jesus. More and more American's that have grown up in the church are choosing to deconstruct their faith. But is that a bad thing? In part 3 of our series we argue that deconstruction is necessary for the vast majority of Christ Followers in America so we can be more authentic followers of Jesus. Note that we separate deconstruction and deconversion as two different things. We hope that this message helps you to move closer to Jesus even as you question everything. Hannah McMahon talks about why we shouldn't be afraid of doubt, but in fact embrace our doubt. Because sometimes it is through expressing our doubt that we can find answers with substance. Following Jesus is both mysterious and something we can have confidence in. We shouldn't be afraid of talking about our doubts as we find out within this message!
If you google the word deconstruction, and scroll down, it’s not long before you see the word deconstruction used in combination with Faith. Deconstructing Faith…. Google calls it a ‘deconstruction movement.” It’s a thing, particularly in America.
Embracing the process of deconstructing faith is the purpose of this series.
Faith does not exist without doubt. Faith and doubt are dependent on each other. Faith chooses to believe in spite of doubt. And because doubt is required for faith to be real, sometimes it feels like our faith is teetering on a thin line between doubt and belief. And when we get hurt by the church, when we see christians behave in unloving ways, when the church as an institution behaves badly, when christian leaders fall, abuse or misuse power, when we equate faith with politics or when we see faith used as a tool to control and manipulate….well understandably, our faith is SHAKEN.
Or when we have hope for God to save us our our loved one from this horrible diagnoses and he doesn’t, or we lose the job even though we did nothing wrong, or no matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to make it financially, or our children question everything they have been taught, or nothing about following Jesus seems to be what you signed up for, our faith is SHAKEN
And when this happens it’s time to deconstruct.
For the purpose of this series we are using this definition of deconstruction: Deconstruction is an evaluation of our core beliefs, taking away everything that is not true, and leaving us with a faith that is real.
Deconstruction is personal. It hits close to home.
We all have either gone through this, are going through it or know someone who is going through this.

Parenting. It takes a village! Everywhere you look in culture today it seems like everyone has an opinion about parenting. Everyone has an opinion about what is the right and wrong way to parent. Today, we are going to dig into a few verses of Scripture to help determine how we can do our best as parents. If you aren't a parent, tune in! Continuing to discover how to repair broken relationships. A life long skill we all need to practice and master.
The bible has a lot of challenging things within its pages that we wrestle with. We ALL wrestle with and are challenged by different things for different reasons. In todays teaching, Evan does a wonderful job unpacking what to do when we find ourselves challenged by the words within Scripture.
There is one practice that makes having conversations around race so much easier: grace. We are a society that heavily lacks any form of grace when it comes to conversations around racism. American society right now functions more like a mob looking for the next person to make a spectacle of instead of simply having hard conversations. Grace doesn't excuse behavior. Grace isn't a pass to ignore injustice and skip empathy. But it is a key practice that we all must give and receive if we want to move the conversation forward.
Does love and justice go hand and hand? What about the gospel and social justice? Over the last few years there has been pushback from some churches across the United States that churches and pastors should just "preach the gospel" and stay out of social issues. But is that how we should love? Evan Graham dives deep into this topic to make the case that how the gospel plays out in our every day lives is more than just a ticket to heaven - it's a call to bring heaven to earth. Because how we love matters.
Love without sacrifice isn't love at all. Too often we Christians are superficial with our love and wonder why we aren't changing the world. Today we look at how Paul challenged the church to embody sacrifice to reach others.
