At GoodKind, we create resources that help people engage with God and one another. We do this by helping you cultivate the GoodKind of habits and holiday practices.
On this podcast, we'll discuss how to be intentional with your habits and holidays, taking the opportunities of the season ahead to create meaningful moments for you and your family.
It's time for another Top 5 Episode, and GoodKind Co-Founder, Clayton Greene, is chatting with Dwell Differently Co-Founder, Natalie Abbott, about enjoying Scripture!
We love Dwell's mission to help people memorize more Scripture, and we had a ton of fun talking with her about the Top 5 ways to enjoy it in the process. Check out the conversation and let us know what you think!

Join Clayton, Chris, and Amy as they dive into the spiritual practice of silence and solitude and fuss over how it works, why it matters, and how to make it easier than you think.

The Prodigal God, by Tim Keller
May is full of all sorts of transitions and ways to engage with God and one another. We can't wait to dive into all of it in our next Habits and Holidays episode. BUT before we do, we're taking a moment for the teachers.
Because here's the thing. You saw the title of this episode. And you groaned. Even if only internally. We know, because we did it too. And here's the thing: We LOVE teachers. We want to appreciate them! So why is it such a sticky thing?
We decided to sit down, chat it out, and brainstorm some ideas to make it better—for your family, and most importantly, for all the teachers out there.

It's time to talk about it. Probably the biggest spiritual practice, the most "basic", and yet one that's still so difficult... Bible Reading.
We get it. It's not that you don't want to read the Bible. It's just sometimes hard to do...or at least feel like you're doing it right.
When it comes to reading the Bible, we all have expectations we need to let go of and experiences to learn from. Clayton, Chris, and Amy are laying theirs out on the podcast today and not holding anything back.

Amy is chatting all things Sabbath with a family that's been practicing it for years along with their kids. We're back in the mini-series this week, talking about one element to successful, consistent spiritual practice that we know you've likely felt, but may not have wrestled with. Today, it's all about how to make a spiritual practice rewarding, in the short and long term.

We're keeping it close to home today, talking about the environment, the physical place, where you engage in your spiritual practices. Think: The chair you read you Bible in and it's surroundings. Welcome back to the podcast! Today, we're kicking off something new—a mini series that will help you develop spiritual practices that stick.

We're excited about this new product, (We hope you are too!) but we're most exited about the ways that we can all grow in this spiritual practice together, as we try and try again.

Welcome back to another Habits and Holidays episode! Everyone put on your best Justin Timberlake impression and sing with us, "It's gonna be MAY!"
May feels like a big month. Transitions happen as school years come to a close, people graduate, the sweaters go to the back of the closet, and summer is starting to sneak in the picture. Join us and decide how you're going to engage this month—in silly ways, in serious ways, and everything in between.
May Freebies:
We know how helpful it is to hear how other families are learning to practice their faith together. So from time to time, we want you to hear not from us, but from families just like yours, who are engaging with God and one another in their habits and holiday practices.
We're excited to introduce you to our friend, Stephanie Oyler, and hear from her about how she's cultivating gratitude in her home.
Happy Easter! Consider the good news of the resurrection with us today—an event so utterly unique it became the cornerstone of the church’s message. Jesus lived, Jesus died, Jesus rose again.
He is the one true King, now and forever.
"Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead.'"
Join us today, in the silence and waiting of Holy Saturday as we consider Jesus, who died in our place.
"Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' … And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, 'Truly this was the Son of God!'"
It's Good Friday—a paradoxical and powerful day with so much for us to consider. Join us and reflect on the beauty and the mystery of the cross.
"Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him. …
And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, 'This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.'"
Today is Maundy Thursday, and we're taking a moment to consider Jesus, the Lamb who prepared a feast. Join us!
"Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take, eat; this is my body.' And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, 'Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.'"
It's Day 4 of our Daily Reflections for Holy Week. Here's our passage to slow down and savor today:
"Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, 'Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.' But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, 'Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.'"
Welcome back to Day 3 of our Daily Reflections for Holy Week! Today, on Holy Tuesday, slow down and savor this passage of Scripture with us.
"In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, 'May no fruit ever come from you again!' And the fig tree withered at once.
When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, 'How did the fig tree wither at once?' And Jesus answered them, 'Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, "Be taken up and thrown into the sea," it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.'"
Welcome back to Day 2 of our Daily Reflections for Holy Week! Today, on Holy Monday, slow down and savor this passage of Scripture with us.
"And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”
And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them."

We hope it helps you slow down and savor Christ this week. And we mean it—stop what you're doing, settle in, take a breath, and slowly consider Scripture with us.
As we guide you through the reading, reflection, and prayer, feel free to pause the episode at any time, allowing yourself to respond at your own pace.

Maybe April will bring showers, and maybe May will bring flowers. But one way another, to us, April means it's solidly Spring. We're excited about all that April has to offer—the weather, the random holidays, and the way the season prompts us to engage with God and one another.
Plus, we even took the liberty of compiling a list of free stuff you can get this month, because who doesn't love that?!
Random holiday deals:
Welcome to the Deep Dive. In these episodes, members of our team will be diving a bit deeper into topics you might hear us mention in our Habits and Holidays episodes.
Up first, we're talking Holy Week! Join Chris Pappalardo and Amy Kavanaugh as they discuss the Lent, Easter traditions, and how you can make Holy Week meaningful.
BIG NEWS! Starting with this very episode, we'll be releasing Habits and Holidays episodes monthly! Honestly, we have too much fun recording these, and either the episodes were going to get a lot longer, of we were going to have to meet more often. We're so excited to become a regular rhythm in your life as you listen along in the car, on a walk, at home, or in the office.
So, with that said, enjoy our conversation re: March! If February is categorically the worst month of the year, March might just be the opposite. We're breaking down all things spring and hope, and we can't wait for you to listen in.
It's not about shamrocks and rainbows and finding pots of gold. It's about a man whose life was transformed by the gospel in such an incredible way that it impacted a nation, and the world today. Join our team members, Chris Pappalardo and Brian Turney for a conversation about the origins and historical significance of St. Patrick's day. (Go ahead and grab your soda bread, too! It's delicious!)
We’re sitting down with author of The Common Rule and Habits of the Household, Justin Whitmel Earley. Out of crisis, Justin aligned his calling with his habits, and is helping others understand how to do the same.
Justin’s expertise informs a lot of what we do here at GoodKind, especially in the realm of creating habits that will help you engage with God and one another. This one’s a real treat, so come on over at sit at Justin’s feet with us!
We're winding down from the fun (and chaos) of Christmas, and we're ready to welcome in the new year! On this Habits and Holidays episode, Clayton, Brian, Lindsey, and Chris are talking the good and bad of new year's resolutions, parties, and crowded gyms (It's like a block party in there!)
This might be our favorite episode yet - we're taking all the momentum of the new year rolling around and using it as an encouragement to engage with God and one another. And, of course, the upcoming random holidays, too.
It's the most festive episode of the year! We're decking the halls, donning sweaters, and dashing through the snow (well, the one of us in Denver, anyway.) Join us on this episode as we're talking All About Advent!
Chances are, you found us through Advent Blocks, and while we're talking about our favorite blocks how they help us anticipate Jesus at Christmas, we're not stopping there! We're talking favorite Christmas traditions, movies, and ways to engage with God and one another.
Cuddle up with some cocoa and join the conversation with us!
Christmas is getting so close, and today, we're interviewing someone who's an expert in anticipating Jesus with Advent Blocks - Lottie Pappalardo!
Lottie is the daughter of our co-founder, Chris, and was the guinea pig for the original version of the Advent Blocks stories! She's tons of fun, and will be sure to have you laughing and excited for the season ahead.
If you've emailed us with a customer service request or have read an email from us or even these podcast descriptions, you've heard from Amy Kavanaugh (hi!)
This week on the podcast, Clayton is interviewing Amy and Ethan Kavanaugh about their experience with Advent Blocks! After joining the Advent Blocks fun, Amy also joined the Advent Blocks team this year as Director of Operations, or as she prefers to be called, Jill of All Trades. The Kavanaughs are sharing what they love about Advent Blocks and how it helped them create new family traditions together.
Join us! It'll be like sitting in one of our team meetings, but way more fun.
This week on the podcast, our Designer, Brian Turney, is chatting with Kendall Vanderslice of the Edible Theology project. (And yes, that is her real name, and it is perfect for someone who bakes bread.)
As we seek to practice the GoodKind of habits and holiday celebrations, we're taking notes from Kendall, who is passionate about teaching the theology of the table, and worshiping God and building community as you cook and as you eat.
We learned so much, and you will too!
Check it out, and then be sure to keep up with what Kendall and the Edible Theology Project are up to!
Today, the youngest of the Greene girls, Susan, is joining her dad on the podcast! Clayton and Susan are reminisce about their favorite parts of Advent Blocks and the traditions they've incorporated with it. It's short, sweet and fun and will get you in the Christmas spirit!
In this episode, Co-founder Clayton Greene is sitting down with his daughter, Cara, who helped bring Advent Blocks to life! As the story famously goes, Cara came to her parents in December of 2018 and said, "You say Christmas is all about Jesus, but it feels like it's all about presents." Oof.
Check it out and get Cara's take on anticipating Jesus at Christmas with Advent Blocks!
In this episode of the podcast, we're covering the second part of fall - back to school is over, now it's time for all things pumpkin, leaves, costumes, and turkeys.
False Fall no more, Actual Autumn is here. We'll cover the best ways to engage with God and one another, determine the best fall foods, and some random holidays to skip or enjoy.

Ever wish you could record a chat with your best friend and then share it with the world? That's what we're doing here. Clayton and Chris are friends in real life, talking about real challenges they face, and real, tangible solutions. In this episode: Gratitude.
How can we become truly grateful people? Without it being too cumbersome, too serious, and too monotonous?
Answer? The Graticube! We're talking why we made it, why it works, and why you'll see long lasting effects from such a simple tool. Take a listen, and join the fun with us!
A little bit about our team, our company, and our podcast!
At GoodKind, we like to say we're the habits and holidays people. We want to help you engage with God and each other, during holidays and throughout the year. And, maybe most importantly, we like to have fun doing it.
You may know as already, as the makers of Advent Blocks, a 25-day practice during the month of December that helps kids—and parents—anticipate Jesus, not just presents. Now, we're taking some of the secret sauce that made Advent Blocks so successful, and making products to help you practice your faith all year long.
We're here to encourage you throughout the year in any way we can. Sometimes that will be through new products and resources, and sometimes, by helping you find meaningful moments in the mundane, enjoy some encouragement and reflection on social media, and celebrating random holidays!
Join us, and start developing the GoodKind of habits and holiday celebrations!
Think we're too good for seasonal puns? Falllllllse.
Join us in our conversation to determine the GoodKind of Fall Fun. We're talking about the best ways to lean into the season, engage with God and one another, and (of course) celebrate or skip some random holidays. (We call it Holi-yay or Holi-nay.) Get ready to laugh, be encouraged, and walk away ready for the season of pumpkins and school planning ahead.
Matthew Sleeth, MD is a former emergency room physician whose life has been transformed by the Gospel and developing a Sabbath practice. Check out his conversation with Chris Pappalardo about unplugging and "remembering" the Sabbath. It's medicine prescribed by the Great Physician himself, and all of us can benefit from it.
In this episode of the GoodKind Podcast, we're interviewing a friend and Sabbath Box user - Leslie Douglas.
From time to time on the podcast, we'll be talking to families and people like Leslie, who are trying to practice their faith. We're in this with the goal of learning from each other - sharing what their journey has been, sharing some laughs, and (hopefully) sharing some encouragement with you.
Chances are, there are some ways you can relate with the Douglas family and their experience creating a weekly Sabbath practice.
Pull up a seat at the table and enjoy the conversation!
In this episode of the GoodKind podcast, our Co-founder, Chris Pappalardo, interviews Pastor and Author Mark Buchanan about creating and maintaining a Sabbath practice. His work has inspired much of our work in creating Sabbath Box, and we hope this conversation inspires you as well!
