A little about Carol...

As an artist, a question I tend to get often is “How do you let your art go after you’ve sold it?” There is a common misconception that each piece an artist makes is like a child or a gemstone, something so personal and rare that giving it away must be painful. But the truth is, each piece better resembles a stepping stone. As an artist of more than 20 years, creating moves me forward, veering me into paths I could’ve never anticipated, all in search of the next thing that will make my heart beat faster than the rest. When people ask how I let my art go, I simply tell them, “I haven’t yet painted the one I can’t let go, and that is what keeps me going.”

.

Originally finding solace in the stillness of landscapes, my art has evolved as I have throughout the years. Determined to constantly be learning and relearning, I have delved into the genres and subjects that called to me, and challenged me most. From the delicate realism of ballerinas to the color and playfulness of florals, my work emulates the same movement that allows me to put each new stepping stone down, continuing my evolution. Now I find myself slinging paint faster than ever, using abstract expressionism as a vibrant new medium with which to tell my story.

.

It is through abstract expressionism that I have been able to articulate some of life’s biggest challenges, from losing my mother to Alzheimer's, to losing my own hearing about ten years ago. My work has given me a new language, not only to hear my own voice more clearly but also to allow others to hear it too. I hope each piece fills you with awe and reminds you of the stones on your own path. moving with color, brimming with life.

Hi! I am Leslie Damstra. I am a first generation Canadian and am now the second generation owner of my family business, Reflections Art and Framing.

.

I worked with/for my parents off and on since she was 12 years old. I went and did other things for about 25 years including auto parts manufacturing and business administration but, custom framing, it seems, remained in my blood. Even when I worked elsewhere, I came back and helped my parents when it was needed. It was a fairly easy decision then to take over when they were ready to retire in 2015.

.

Over the past 7 years it has been my pleasure to meet and work with artists and art lovers from Southwestern Ontario and beyond. I have framed keepsakes from all over the world.

.

I encourage people to buy art when they travel; it's a great way to relive a moment! I also love seeing what the creatives in our region have made and am extremely honoured when people come to me so that I can put the finishing touch on their pieces. If a picture paints a thousand words, then I provide the quotation marks.

.

Stop by and see me at my shop, located at 99 Oakside Street, London, ON N5Y 1E6.

.

First, you must check out my vlog on YouTube or visit my website at www.reflectionsartandframing.com; that's where you can see some of what I do and find out what kind of deals might be happening at Reflections.

.

Need more information? Feel free to email me at leslie@reflectionsartandframing.com or give us a call @ (519)452-1341. .

.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Liz creates paintings which help people see the natural world in a new and fresh light. Her paintings are full of vitality and joie de vivre, hoping to capture the beauty and energy of the flora and fauna we often take for granted. She creates special paintings which bring a sense of wonder into your life, from intimate pieces to dramatic statements, from gentle watercolours to bold golden icons.

Liz lives in a small village in Berkshire, working mainly in watercolour and ink. A selection of her paintings are published in the UK and internationally and original pieces can be found in collections from the UK to New Zealand and in between.

Liz loves to share her passion for watercolour through YouTube, online courses and via books. Her fourth book was published by The Crowood Press in July 2022.

"I’ve been an artist ever since I was a little kid. Art was always my favorite subject in elementary and high school, I adored the art classes I took in the summer and the teacher who encouraged me, and I still have pages and pages of class notes covered in doodles and notebooks peppered with ideas for paintings and art collections. In college, although I graduated with a “respectable” major (history), I took as many art classes as I could and graduated with a minor in Studio Art.

It’s always been easier for me to use pen and paper or paintbrush and canvas to express myself, but it wasn’t until my mom passed away in 2014 that I took the leap from my office cubicle to pursue life on my terms. Art enables me to say what words can’t, and my art is an extension of myself, while the process itself is an exploration of my thoughts and feeling, a form of therapy and catharsis.

I am now a full time artist, and I split my time between commissions, original work, and working on a new graphic novel!"

I could describe myself as a performer, a writer and a TikToker.

And that is what I've been since the first lockdown started my creative journey with my own, hand made puppets.

Thousands of videos and followers later, along with a couple more puppets, we're still making people laugh.

But I am also the long suffering human to a bunch of egotistical aliens who have come to explore Earth.

I am a bit part in my own creation and can only watch while they set about world domination.

One way or another.

Tosca Lahiri, The Wicked Artist, is an abstract expressionist painter who creates soulful, vibrant and energetic original art in her own distinctive style.

Exploring the ideas around becoming untamed, Tosca’s art asks, who were you before you conformed to expectations.

“We spend so much time in the digital world,” explains Tosca, “that we forget how to get messy, be wild and appreciate imperfection.”

For many of us spending too much time online masks underlying symptoms of “taming”. Tosca ‘s art practise is very much about the process of creating art, as well as the paintings themselves. It is in this duality that the ideas of what traps us are explored and how we then free ourselves.

Tosca’s art can be seen online on her website at https://thewickedartist.com/.

Nicholas was born in Kingston upon Thames and spent twenty odd years

living, learning and working in Surrey. He has previously lived in Berkshire,

Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Wiltshire and more recently in

Devon for nine years.

He recently moved to Lincolnshire fairly close to where the Ornithologist,

Conservationist and artist Sir Peter Scott once lived.

He is an abstract come semi-abstract artist influenced by cubism, surrealism and anime. Influential artists include August Macke, Robert Delaunay, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, M C Escher, Casper David Fredrich, Pieter Bruegel the elder, Miro and William Heath-Robison.

His inspiration comes from our wonderful world particularly the natural world which includes the animal. vegetable, mineral and environmental. Things of particular interest have been rock and biological sections as well as things like pollen fungi and microfossils. He is fascinated by the shapes, colours and textures seen under a microscope. The venation of insect wings for instance are used to frame some interesting images in order to create stories.

Whilst living in Devon he was a member of the Tavistock Group of Artists

(TGA) and Drawn to the Valley (DttV) and as such took part in

exhibitions as a member of the Kernow Creative Partnership he showed at the Castle Gallery in Bude, Harbour House Gallery in Kingsbridge, the Artizan Gallery in Torquay as well as at galleries in Launceston and Okehampton.

At a young age he spent a lot of tie doodling, drawing and colouring.

Creativity through mark making and walking a line into a doodle is a very

important part of his artistic life. Experimenting and learning as well as

conducting workshops are also important. He turned professional in his fifties.

Luke Martin is an aspiring entrepreneur, an outdoor enthusiast, and a community builder. Luke found a love for business at a young age. His ideal job as a kid was always an inventor, in his young twenties, he has now aligned these inventor aspirations into starting impactful businesses and helping others build theirs.

He currently runs a clothing and home goods brand called "adore." that focuses on supporting local artists and creators. With a sister company called "love your friends studios" the goal for the brand is to become a hub for all creators and find any way to support them. Last month the company put on an art gallery that showcased 4 of the "adore artists". With the sales of the clothes pushing the brand, all art sale profits were able to go directly to the artists. The company is currently working on their second season of goods while working on a concert to showcase some local musicians.

On the side, Luke Loves to get out of the city as much as possible, kayaking and canoeing and creating films. He enjoys working with children with disabilities and finds passion in teaching others about the outdoors. *

I never dreamed I would become a sought after international artist!

.

My journey has had many twists and turns (like the tales I tell through paint). As a child I always wanted to be an actress, however much of my time was spent with books and pencils, history and fashion being a huge passion of mine.

.

And yes, I went on to study drama and acted for a while before becoming a teacher in London. My time in education was consumed with promoting creativity and the arts at the centre of the school curriculum. Directing productions, teaching art and dance was where my passion was.

.

Then one day a friend asked me to join her on a weekend art course. This changed my life forever.

.

I loved it! And promptly got a beginners art pack. That summer I drew and painted every day and my own unique style began to emerge, pulling on all I had been passionate about during my life.

.

That autumn I started participating in art fairs and selling my art.

.

Three years ago I left my teaching job and became a professional artist.

.

Covid hit and I was painting full time. A Spanish artist saw my work and reached out to me. She insisted my art should be out there and selling. She recommended a free 5 day challenge run by Paula, in her previous business, on marketing art on social media.

.

I was totally dedicated and within two months my first international sale from America came.

.

Since then I haven’t looked back – selling over 70 pieces in the past year.

.

I know this is the life I should be leading and can’t wait to see where this amazing life will take me.

Fiona’s passion lies in painting landscapes in her distinctive and contemporary style. She works predominantly in oils using a painting knife, to capture the peace and tranquillity of the wild, natural places that she loves to discover. Exploring and visiting these places is an excellent way of recharging her mental ‘batteries’. Directly connected to these visits, Fiona creates paintings that transport people to a place of calm helping them to relax, unwind and find inner peace. Recently she has also been incorporating gold and silver leaf in her paintings.

.

Wherever possible Fiona likes to work directly from the subject, painting in the open air in the places that she loves, interpreting the sights, sounds and smells in paint on canvas. But, when this is not possible, her sketches, photographs, and memories act as the inspiration for her paintings.

.

Her work has won awards and critical acclaim and can be found in collections both in the UK and internationally, including the USA, Canada, France, Ireland, Malta, Australia, and Switzerland.

.

Fiona lives & works in West Sussex, UK, where she is often to be found on location with her easel and paints, and her travels - which have spanned the globe - have also been a rich source of subject matter.

.

She occasionally accepts commissions for landscape paintings, creating lasting and treasured memories of special places beautifully interpreted in her unique style.

.

Fiona is also an accomplished professional portrait artist, having completed many successful commissions of both people and animals.

Kendra Gadzala is an artist, educator and designer. She has a degree in Fine Arts from Concordia University and worked as an interactive designer for 20 years. She now lives in Toronto, where she teaches art and design at Centennial College.

.

Kendra’s art has been exhibited internationally and is in several private collections in North America, Europe, and Asia. As a painter, she is drawn to elements that constantly change, such as the sky, reflections on water, and light and shadow. Her process starts with a quick sketch or a series of photographs, capturing the scene at a specific time. These images are then taken back to the studio and further refined. Her work is based on observation but the compositions are often simplified to reveal the core elements of the scene.

Passion for art and the desire to create is what keeps Sammy’s mind racing with ideas for her artwork. Sammy works in a variety of mediums. When viewing Sammy’s portfolio for the first time one is under the impression that the works presented are the creations of several artists. The diversity in the styles of collections however is the efforts of just her. Explosive abstract art paintings, contemporary mixed media collage art are just some of the styles you will discover when you delve into Sammy’s portfolio.

.

“An exceptional artist who is inspired by colour, mark making and form.

.

Sammy is an ‘Intellectual’ Professional Artist who approaches all her work with a huge mental analysis and therefore a wonderful vision of the work before it is created.

Sammy writes down her ‘vision’ before she starts painting. She writes wonderful essays about why she is painting a particular work. Her inspiration, her concept and her colour fields.

.

Hugely talented and extremely professional, Sammy is an artist to watch, to invest in and to enjoy.”

.

That is how Caroline Hulse FRSA, owner of The Magic Easel and JoeDaisy Studio, reacts to the work of artist Sammy Hexter-Andrews.

Sammy, an abstract painter from Hampshire in the UK, under expert tutorage from Caroline Hulse , Sammy has consolidated her knowledge and gained greater skills to expand her abilities within her craft.

.

In a fairly short period of time Sammy has achieved selling her original abstract paintings via Studio Sales, Contemporary Art Fairs, Online and Recommendations from clients, a base which is increasing. Some clients already own a number of pieces of Sammy’s work.

.

Sammy is part of The Bloomz Arthouse Collective, www.thebloomz.co.uk

My name is Katerina and I am based in the beautiful town Montreux.

.

In 2011, I separated from my partner and I fell into a dark place, a tv series and art has helped me find myself again.

.

Let me explain a little bit.

.

In 2016, In a second hand store, I received 6 seasons of the tv show Supernatural, as a gift. That same evening I watched it. Never ever! Had I been hit so hard in the feels. I cried my heart out, big healing sobs. Through the show I made online friends, and I started drawing and painting again! It was amazing to find back to my passion.

.

Creating fan art in graphite pencil, allowed me to connect with other fans of my favorite shows, but somehow I felt something was missing, a way to express my souls calling.

.

That’s why on June 22nd, 2018, I decided to draw a doodle, every day, for a WHOLE year. My intention? Getting better at drawing, get faster and become more sure with my line work. What I discovered was that I love to draw women’s bodies.

.

I found a love of working with watercolours to represent our divine feminine, something that lives in each and every one of us, be you in a female or masculine form right now.

.

It feels like my soul is speaking directly through me, I can feel it right now writing this. It’s peaceful and all encompassing.

Something I wish for you all to feel when you look upon my art.

.

My art has changed my belief in myself, it brings me so much joy and happiness.

After a 40-year career in horticulture—primarily as a landscape designer—in 2017 I had a ‘lightbulb moment’ (pun definitely intended!) and began to hand-craft unique, art-led lighting solutions. This has earned me the moniker of an ‘Artistic Illuminator’ 💡

.

My creations are predominantly industrial-style lamps made from galvanised malleable iron and brass pipe fittings. My pieces are nearly always character-led and many are client commissions—providing one-of-a-kind gifts for special birthdays, anniversaries, weddings etc.

.

I started creating lighting in 2017—initially just a few book and bottle lamps to help light up Steph’s stand at events. Then I rediscovered that the galvanised iron pipe fittings I remembered from my youth. So, with the trend for industrial and steampunk-style décor, I embarked on designing & making my own range of character pipe lamps.

.

Although there is a limited range of sizes and angles available with pipe fittings, I strive to convey something of the essence of the particular character I’m creating. I can epitomise virtually anything in pipe lamp form! My creations have included animals, rock stars (complete with miniature replica guitars), sporting personalities and sci-fi & fantasy film heroes.

.

Integrating the lamp’s switch somewhere you would not expect, is also something I love to do. And if the switch still isn’t obvious? Then there’s a good chance that the lamp is magically touch-sensor

.

I also present a fun, Instagram Live show every Sunday at 5pm (UK time)—often with an exciting guest!

Audacious art for colourful minds

.

I've been drawing and writing for as long as I can remember. To this day, I always keep a pen and notebook to hand. They are my talismans. Characters, creatures and ideas tend to hang around and pester me until I have rendered them in ink or paint. I couldn't really tell you where they come from, but I take inspiration from all kinds of places – for example nature, street style, high fashion, music, film, theatre, dance, or architecture. Sometimes I'll spot someone in a cafe, through a window or across the street, and I feel compelled to try and capture whatever it was that sparked my attention. It could be something about their energy, or the way they walked, or the way they were daydreaming.

.

My art has been collected all over the world, and I've had exhibitions in New York City, London, Zurich, Marbella, Berlin, Antwerp, and Santa Barbara, California. Recent commissions include a ten-piece mural in central Brighton, UK, illustrations for the international virtual opera project Vopera, and artwork for East Sussex College’s Black History Month campaign.

.

I graduated from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art in London with a degree in theatre design, and spent a brief time working in the film and TV industry before moving to Berlin and then New York City, where I focused on my art. I’m currently based on the UK’s South Coast, where I work from a studio that overlooks a castle and has a kitchen well-stocked with hot-chocolate.

Sue is an oil painter living and working in the heart of the National Forest in Leicestershire, UK

Elisa is from Italy and she is a wife, mother of two boys and an environmental engineer working full time in a regional environmental protection agency.

.

She spent most of her life studying, working and taking care of the family, and for a long time she pulled apart her passion for art because of the lack of time and difficulties in managing an already busy daily routine.

.

Three years ago she realized that it was the time to do something for herself, so she started dedicating time to make art systematically, learning to use different media such as charcoal, acrylic and oil paints.

.

Her inspiration comes from people, especially women, and she is interested in interpreting and understanding their inner world made of dreams, fears, hope, rebirth.

.

Being aware, on the basis of her direct experience, that women need to discover themselves and to be seen authentically, beyond stereotypes and labels, Elisa aims to help them to strengthen their identity.

.

By her figurative paintings, set halfway between realism and expressivity, she invites women to be proud of their past, enjoy the present and face the future with joy. A poem, a book, a sentence on a newspaper, a chat with a friend, can all offer Elisa hints on new concepts and ideas for future paintings.

Like many others, I was made redundant during the pandemic. Unlike many others I used my time to create a sarcastic, foul mouthed, egotistical Space Monkey who is outraged and bemused by Earth's primitive inhabitants.

.

But the real journey has only just begun because, while I've always been creative, it's always been the back-up, the side job or the hobby. My creativity has always come second to the 'proper' job.

The art Marion creates celebrates and explores the simple beauty of our natural world. A tree is so much more than a tree. It is a powerful and mystical life force that communicates with us if we are ready to listen. She believes trees connect with each other through the root system and connect us together through the soil on which we stand.

.

Her paintings celebrate trees in all their magical magnificent-ness.

.

Colour plays a vital role in her work and the richness of depth is often achieved through using a multi layered, mixed media approach. Often 10+ layers are applied before a piece is completed. Collectors resonate with these passionate, joy-filled paintings and state ‘it is obviously work by Marion as it celebrates life, love and adventure’.

.

Marion says … “I LOVE trees.

.

So I guess the question is why is this?

.

There are a number of reasons and the first is that trees come in so many different shapes and sizes. The different appearances of the trees are like their personalities. I find trees to be beautiful and fascinating.

.

They are more complex than one first thinks. To me a tree is strong, it is resilient. It is a provider of shelter, It is a giver of life: a sign-post and represents life – changing with the seasons.

.

As an artist capturing this quality of the tree is part of the challenge and the excitement. Also, I believe we take trees for granted as they are all around us and everywhere. I'm also very interested in how trees adapt so well to their climate. I think it is amazing and beautiful that when you drive around the coastline of Cornwall & Devon where strong winds come across the land from the sea the trees do not grow too tall and you can tell the branch formation is dependent on the buffeting of the wind’s direction.

.

By acknowledging the beauty, strength and symbolism of a tree and capturing this in my paintings I am helping you to bring the outside in. To gaze at my paintings whatever the weather outside means you can adventure and day dream whenever you want!!!”

Born in Scotland in 1967, Mark Wallace began his art career as a designer, graduating with a degree in design. He has more than 25 years experience in the commercial art world, working for a publisher in Africa, several small design agencies in the London area, and as a corporate designer for a large financial services company.

Beginning in his 40s he has explored and developed his art using touch screen apps which simulate actual media types, and have given him the freedom to work where and when he feels inspired. This has often included places such as trains and coffee shops.

From his seaside origins he has journeyed through his art to the coast, and beneath the ocean. Across the relatively untamed Africa of his childhood and the cityscapes of his working life. His love of science fiction has inspired many of his more abstract compositions.

Michael Taylor is a writer and his love for creating stories goes back many years, right back to childhood. For the last few years he has been concentrating on completing his first novel The Sanctuary.

.

Michael has two grown up sons who are very supportive of his work, offering constructive criticism such as, “dad, that’s rubbish,” or “yeah, it’s not bad I suppose,” and definitely keep him grounded!

.

His life experience, raising two children, and the sometimes difficult but often rewarding encounters he has faced whilst working in the field of psychiatry have been invaluable in providing the resilience and maturity not only to begin, but to finish his novel.

.

Michael now identifies himself as an author and this has been key to him taking the next step in preparing his work for publication in October 2022

As a system designer turned fibre sculpture, Stephanie has developed a unique perspective when it comes to animal sculpture. Influenced by an instinctive empathy with animals and her logical systematic mind, she brings what appears to be conflicting approaches together to produce her own Garden of Eden!

.

Stephanie’s CV reads like someone with a low boredom threshold and the same could be said of her creative nature and digestion of every craft book in waterstones (pre internet) to learn another skill. All of these roles and skills were necessary to bring her to this point and to support her in her chosen path as an artist.

.

Stephanie not only sell’s her sculptures but promotes the relatively new art form of fibre sculpture through galleries, art shows and competitions. Her personal artistic quest is to “share a moment in the life of…”

Since then I haven’t looked back – selling over 70 pieces in the past year. I know this is the life I should be leading and can’t wait to see where this amazing life will take me.
