We Are Y2Y: Recent Episodes

Youth to Youth International

The We Are Y2Y podcast hosts all of the amazing podcasting content developed by the young people involved in Youth to Youth. Y2Y was founded in 1982 in Columbus, Ohio, as a community-based drug prevention and youth leadership program focusing primarily on middle school and high school students. The goal of its many projects is harnessing the powerful influence of peer pressure—making it a positive force that encourages young people to live free of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Staying true to yourself: It’s something that our fourth guest on The College Years Podcast understands well. Aloni Hardrick is a student at the University of Akron, and graduated from Eastmoor high school in 2017. Known for her can-do attitude and positivity, Aloni has made a name for herself as a role model for her peers. In this episode, Cam sits down with her to discuss many of the issues that college students making the transition into adulthood struggle with. Everything from identity, time management and the importance of putting yourself first. While it isn’t always easy to know what you want and who you are becoming, these two explore some of the moments that have shaped this learning experience.

What does it mean to find the right fit for college? Is it the size of the campus? Is it what state or city it’s in? What there is to do on campus? Or is it how much money it costs and what scholarships you got? Each one of these factors are going through the minds of upperclassmen across the nation. While finding the right fit for the next chapter in your life is important, it’s also important to know that it is okay to be wrong the first time around.

Cam sat down with Aidan, who much like Cam, went to a school for a year and decided to transfer to Ohio State back in his hometown of Columbus. These two look at why they originally chose their first school, their reasons for leaving, and share some stories about their first-year experience along the way. From navigating obscure fire codes to creepy people in dormitory common rooms, Aidan and Cam explore the ins and outs of what went into finding the right fit for them. What factors went into your choice?

Recorded September 2020:

Life after Youth to Youth has meant many things to many people. For some, it is going straight into the workforce, for others it is attending a college or university. Regardless of the path you take after graduating high school, leaving the comfort of Youth to Youth comes with its own set of challenges. Time management, extracurriculars, and beginning and maintaining new relationships are just a few of the new adjustments new graduates must make in their next phase of life.

In the first edition of the Y2Y College Years Podcast, Cam sat down with Haylee and Zarek to discuss just that. Cam is a fifth-year student at The Ohio State University, Zarek is a third-year student at Wittenberg University, and Haylee is a fourth-year student at Capital University.

These three provide differing perspectives on some of the most important topics surrounding college life. Haylee, Cam, and Zarek explore the best parts of college, look at some of the most common myths, and things that they wish they knew before stepping foot on campus.
