Most companies think about content marketing wrong. Some common misconceptions include:
–“Too expensive”
–“I don’t want to manage/invest in it”
–“What's the ROI of this one blog post? Or a podcast?”
–“The barrier of entry is too difficult”
We use these types of misconceptions to talk ourselves out of attempting a bold content marketing strategy to begin with. But what if we shifted our mindset into thinking content marketing is a cost center and instead, turned content marketing into a profit center?

Which makes it all the more important to focus on building your first party data collection process, honing in on those buyer personas, and helping the sales team make their adjustments in a cookie-less world. Helping us to break it all down are Adrienne Barns of Best Buyer Personas and Forrest Dombrow of Solve Sales.

In our final episode of this Cyberly Hits the Road series, we’re taking one interview from one event and combining it with an interview from another event as a sort of the last hurrah. But these last hurrah’s are doozy’s as we got Chris Jolly aka The Freight Coach joining the show in a two-part discussion talking about building his career as a broker and transitioning to a new role as influencer and creator within the industry. And speaking of two parts, we also have Big Ed Burns and his son Ed Burns also joining the show to talk about bridging the gap between the family dynamics of running a business together--especially when you can combine the superpowers of the veteran leadership with new insights. In this episode of Cyberly, we’re in Charlotte, North Carolina at Armstrong Transport Group’s annual agent conference. It’s an event filled with educational and community building activities among all freight agents with the program. I was invited up to Charlotte to speak on building your business in a digital world and got the chance to chat with three of their all-star agents (aka the top performers) along with Armstrong’s CEO, Brian Mann.
It’s a fascinating discussion into what questions a freight agent should be asking before deciding to join a program in order to set themselves up for success.

Most of us have heard the phrase “driver shortage” at least a dozen times but the real debate should be centered around retention and training. It’s these two factors that are leading drivers to quit their jobs altogether--even if they’re. So how do we fix this? Well, Adam Wingfield of Innovative Logistics Group and Desiree Wood of Real Women in Trucking are talking about those challenges in an effort to make trucking cool again while also creating a safe environment while on the job.
We hear the phrase “collaboration” all the time but what does it really mean when it comes to complex supply chains? CEO of PCS Software Chris Poelma, President of Detmar Logistics Matt Detmar, and Director of Supply Chain for Bonnie Plants Gabriel Parades joins Cyberly live in San Antonio to talk about how they’ve enhanced collaboration and technology with the learning lessons of 2020.

A wise little green puppet once said, “the fear of loss is a path to the dark side.” But what if I told you embracing the marketing dark funnel is a pathway that leads to many abilities, none of which are unnatural?
That’s our main topic for today as we dive into the world of how your audience ~really~ shares the content they enjoy. Whether it’s through screenshots, text messages, or a Slack channel--your audience is sharing content through what’s called the Marketing Dark Funnel.
Brumleve welcomes Amanda Natividad, Marketing Architect at SparkToro and contributor of Adweek, and they talk about how audience research can inform your overall marketing strategy, and what B2B marketers can learn from B2C.
So why do marketers obsess over metrics that are shown in an attribution report instead of relying on conversations and gut instincts?
The ethos of competition is better, faster, stronger. We see it in every aspect of business, life, and of course, sports. More specifically The Olympic Games.
And in 2020, where we saw what the world looked like without sports, we saw what a society looks like without rooting for a common goal.
With the opening ceremony on Friday, I thought it would be interesting to dive into the logistics of the Tokyo Olympics and how that has evolved--and continues to evolve even days before the opening ceremonies.
Also on the show is Charlie Saffro of CS Recruiting to give us the scoop from within the trenches of the hiring world and Andrew Cox is breaking down the holiday strategy for retailers all across the globe.
When a business decides they need a new website or want to start a new marketing campaign, most marketers will suggest starting with gathering insight from the experts within the company--also known as subject matter experts.
But how do you put these SME’s in a position to give you the insight you need to do your job? Kyle MacNaught of Freight+ is helping us to break down his tactics used in real world situations to help you get the information needed to make your company shine.
Also on the show we’ve got some reality TV drama and how you can take those brand safety steps needed to fight back as the mob swarms. Plus Marcus Cooksey from Duke.ai is shining a light on where most carriers should be paying more attention: their back office accounting.
Being an entrepreneur is tough. But being an entrepreneur that supplies tools and knowledge to other entrepreneurs has its own set of unique challenges. That’s the common theme of today’s show as we talk with CEO of Cargologik Miles Varghese and Truck N’ Hustle’s host Rahmel Wattley. One side of the coin is providing a SaaS solution to the indie freight folks and the other helping new trucking companies avoid that common pitfall of going out of business within the first year.
Miles and Rahmel will both be telling us why they’re so passionate about giving insight and tools to help folks get started in freight and manage the multiple hats they’ll have to eventually wear.
Also on the show, we’re breaking down some of the latest social media news and how it’ll affect those marketing plans for the rest of 2021 and impact those 2022 budgets.
With July 4th coming up, we’re diving deep into the history of work and how the last year may have sent the working market into what’s being called ‘The Great Resignation”. Knowing this insight can help us plan for what the future of work will look like not just for the US but for the rest of the evolving world.
Patrick McFarland, the director of marketing for ITS Logistics is breaking down how his marketing plan shifted as the company experienced massive growth.
Also on the show is Sue Reynolds of Carmine Media who is helping leaders, especially women, get better at being in powers of position that play to their strengths.
We’ve all been there--we’ve generated a report from a martech tool that makes us look GOOD by showing how many likes and comments the latest Instagram or Linkedin post got. And for a while, the novelty did matter. But as marketing has evolved and buying habits have changed, our education of what modern marketing is should evolve with it.
That’s our main topic for this week’s episode of Cyberly of creating a marketing report that CEO’s won’t hate--but it’s the work you put in before generating the report that will drive the success or failure of that insight. Also on today’s show we got Danny Goff from DriverReach helping us to understand the tools we need in our arsenal to combat the recruiting and retention part of the driver shortage.
Finally we got Anthony Vitiello from PCS Software breaking down how to use AI to help manage all of the data within a TMS platform to make it actionable along with hosting one of the industry’s first in-person conferences post lockdown world.
Say that show title three times fast. Podcasting has been trending towards a dominant medium for a few years now--which may make those who are on the fence about starting a show a tad bit nervous to take the plunge.
But on today’s show, I’m giving you some perspective and context around those podcasting stats to hopefully encourage you to start and see the value in your own company-branded show.
Speaking of company shows, we’ve got the experts and hosts from Trucking for Millennials, Aaron and Michael, to talk about hitting 100 episodes for their own podcast and how it’s helped them in other areas of their business, PDQ America.
And last but certainly not least, Kristy Knichel, the powerhouse herself of Knichel Logistics is joining the show to talk about taking over the family business, the power of networking, and why mentoring matters so much.
Ad tech vendors and people who collect “leads” on Zoom Info are in for a real treat soon--and by treat I mean the loss of data that helps to prove your software is worth it. But for the marketers and sales teams actually in the trenches doing the hard work, I’m breaking down why these new privacy doom-and-gloomers are paranoid for nothing. Also on the show are two rockstars: Nicole Glenn of Candor Expedite and Melanie Patterson of Integrity Transit. Both are breaking down passion for connecting with their audience on a deeper level and just being overall business badasses.

It’s no secret that marketing has evolved over the last couple of years but how can it play a bigger role on the revenue side of the business? We’re breaking down some of the Do’s and Don’ts of outsourcing your marketing to give your business the edge without the overhead.
In addition to the hot topic, we’re chatting with sales leader Michael Neme on how marketing can better assist the sales department with leads that don’t suck. Along with Nick Dangles of Kinetic breaking down where most companies get their tech and go-to-market strategy wrong.

Truckers easily have the best social media game in the industry. But how can they protect themselves and the content they create from being exploited? Wayne Cragg is giving us his perspective on past deals gone wrong and how other drivers can protect and possibly profit from the content they create for the masses.
Also on the show is Meshach Weber of Loadsure who has been a pioneer in freight tech marketing, is breaking down where most companies get it wrong (and who gets it right) with their marketing.
This plus Google My Business getting a HUGE upgrade that all businesses need to be aware of.

Recruiting drivers is a problem and at the same time, marketers are planning to spend MORE on channels like social media and email. So why hasn’t the trucking industry started harnessing the power of their own driver’s social media presence? We’re talking with Tom Augenthaler of The Influence Marketer about how trucking companies can start working with influencers to help solve a recruiting problem that isn't going away anytime soon. This plus the logistics of flowers on Mother’s day--how giving flowers got started and how they arrive on your doorstep.

Danny Catullo is a 3rd generation butcher in Cleveland Ohio who started selling his beef, poultry, and pork items online back in 2017. But after facing issues with high shipping prices and limited options, he got to work with Fedex where they developed a specialized box that allowed his products to be shipped all over the US. Just a few years later, Danny co-founded Perishable Shipping Solutions offering that same service to other business owners. And business is booming! We’re talking with Danny about his journey along with the NFL Draft festivities which is in his hometown this week.
That’s not the only sports item we’re talking about on today’s show. We’ve also got the Kentucky Derby--which I found out some interesting information about how racehorses are transported to and from the big events. All this plus some niche video marketing ideas that the B2B world can steal from B2C.

Carbon is often seen as a dirty word when it comes to the desire to save the planet but what if we could utilize that source to create a cohesive environment from the soil to the animals we eat and air we breathe? That’s the concept around Regenerative Ranching and Doniga Markegard is hoping to bring awareness to the idea that carbon doesn’t have to be our enemy.
In Netflix’s documentary Kiss the Ground, many viewers were given their first glimpse of how the human species can utilize regenerative farming practices that takes carbon from the air and replenishes to where it’s needed most: our soil. Creating an environment the soil and animals are biologically conditioned to thrive, farmers like Doniga are using technology to create a cohesive ecosystem on their ranch to avoid the negative side effects factory farming has on our planet.
In our chat with Doniga, she’s breaking down how she got started as a regenerative rancher and how cattle can be good for the environment by mimicking nature to restore carbon in the soils and promote biodiversity.

COVID has impacted damn near every part of our lives but one side effect (besides the extra pounds) is we’re buying a lot of plants. Like, a lot A LOT. So let’s break down the plant supply chain while also chatting with Rick Larkin who’s emptied an office to convert it into studio space. Rick owns BCB Transport with more than 300 trucks and what started out as a way to communicate safety updates to their drivers, that new studio space is now broadcasting live every single day with even bigger plans coming soon.
Katelyn Bourgoin once said, “Don’t sell me a new bed. Sell me a good night’s sleep so I can finally be that person that quits hitting snooze and can make that morning workout on time.” She’s on the show to today to talk about how she gets to where her customers want to become in life by conducting customer-centric interviews.
Using her insight plus some truth behind some common digital media metrics like “what counts as a video view” can help you as you refine that on-going marketing strategy.
