In this episode we interview Mickey, a Midwest candidate. Mickey was raised by his dad after his mom fell into drug addiction. He decided he wanted to make something of himself and was accepted to college, but didn't have anywhere to stay. So, he slept in his car the night before his first day and went on to graduate with a four-year degree. Mickey overcame adversity and was recently hired and will start the academy soon!! This is a great story for all of our listeners.

This was a result of a recent data leak by LAPD. All 9300 LAPD officers' information and photos - including undercover officers - was released to anti-police hate groups. Officerprivacy.com specializes in scrubbing information off the Internet. This is for active & retired officers, police families, supporters and police applicants. Please take this seriously as credible threats are out there targeting police families.

This is a special Legacy Podcast. On November 29, 2009, four Lakewood, Washington police officers were fatally shot at the Forza Coffee shop, near Tacoma. A gunman, later identified as Maurice Clemmons, entered the shop, shot the officers while they worked on laptops, and fled the scene with a single gunshot wound in his torso. After a massive two-day manhunt, Officer Ben Kelly of the Seattle PD, recognized Clemmons near a stalled car in south Seattle. Kelly’s confrontation with Clemmons ended the life of a cop killer. On this original 2010 Policebackground.net Podcast, we interviewed Officer Kelly. Officer Kelly detailed how he survived this critical incident. ___________________You're now able to support our podcast!Monthly donations: https://anchor.fm/pdbackgrounds/supportOne-time donations: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=VM6AE5B2A6VF2Go here for background consultation information: www.policebackground.net--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pdbackgrounds/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pdbackgrounds/support

This was a special event YouTube Live and Facebook Live we recorded on August 26th, 2022. We took live questions from our listeners and answered their questions. In this episode we interview longtime Background Investigation Division supervisor JJ Williams who witnessed the downfall of LAPD hiring over 20 years. He retired in 2022. We're publishing it as a special episode for the podcast.  In August 2022, the LAPD chief reported that the department was unable to hire the promised number of recruits in hiring year 2021-2022. The recruitment numbers continue to fall in hiring year 2022-2023. The LAPD had 10,000 officers in 2013. They now have 9250 officers. The department is unable to stem the flow of officers leaving the department and can't hire enough to make up for their losses. We discuss the current state of LAPD hiring in this special episode. ___________________ You're now able to support our podcast!
