💡 What happens when Gen Z is invited into conversations shaping the future of media, publishing, and advertising?
At #NavigatorNYC this year, our Gen Z Ops panel brought together students and early-career professionals to share honest perspectives on entering the industry, navigating uncertainty, building confidence, pursuing growth, and learning in real time.
Moderated by Zip Nguyen, CQO of Bloom in Crisis and Business Intelligence & Yield Manager at BBC Studios, the conversation featured:
• Socheata Sea, Business Intelligence Analyst at BBC Studios
• Ukë Hasanaj, Data Strategy Summer Intern at McCann New York
• Thao Nguyen, Summer Intern at Ogilvy New York
Bloom in Crisis is proud to help foster and support partnerships that create more space for Gen Z voices, learning, and connection across the industry.
A huge thank you to Rob Beeler and the Beeler.Tech team for creating space for Gen Z voices at Navigator, and to Fordham University Gabelli School of Business and The Marketing Area at Gabelli School of Business for supporting our students and the partnership. We also deeply appreciate everyone who attended our session and shared such thoughtful reflections with us ❤️
The full Gen Z Ops session is now available to watch on our YouTube channel and listen to across all podcast platforms 📺🎧

❓How do we find clarity when life feels messy, uncertain, or “behind schedule”?
❓What’s the difference between what we want and what we truly need — and why does that matter so much for success?
❓How do we move from being “ghosted” to actually growing in our careers?
So many conversations about success skip over the hardest parts: rejection, silence, confusion, and the quiet pressure to “have it all figured out” — especially in your 20s.
In this episode, we dive straight into all of it 🎯
Not only will you hear real talk from CQO Zip Nguyen on how she’s navigated these moments herself, but you’ll also hear raw, honest reflections from our Bloomers on what growth has really looked like for them.
No performance. No sugar-coating. Just grounded, proven guidance and perspectives that may help you rethink your journey and fuel your next step forward.
The full recording is now available for anyone who couldn’t attend or wants to revisit the conversation.
We’d love to hear what you’d like us to explore next in our Jan 17 live podcast event! Send us a DM on Instagram or LinkedIn 🤳

It’s been a while since I last published a podcast episode on @bloomincrisis.
As I realized that time spent editing videos was taking away from my writing and other practices, I decided to shift my focus despite having a long backlog of recordings I’ve yet to revisit. However, after observing many students struggle with effective networking (most recently while hiring for our Business Intelligence internship position at BBC Studios), I felt compelled to edit and share this throwback episode that I recorded with students at Fordham University more than a year ago.
In this episode, you'll learn:
❌ The biggest turn-off when it comes to networking
❌ Why you might not have found success in networking yet
✅ How reframing networking in your mind can help you build meaningful relationships
✅ Creative ways to leave a lasting positive impression on potential employers or hiring managers—plus real-life examples!
If this resonates with you and you’d like to dive deeper, I’ll be back at Fordham this Wednesday, March 5th, for another speaking event. Hope to see you there.
Good luck! 🍀
Shoutout to Shubh Mahtani and Santiago Ablaza for proactively arranging the event and hosting the podcast, Professor Kate Kennon for her help with organizing, and all the students from Fordham University and others who attended and engaged in the session.

❓ “Since you were still trying to figure out a lot about yourself, especially when you were a student, how did you market yourself to companies during interviews?”
💡 If you want to know how to “sell yourself” effectively in job interviews, don’t skip this episode in which our CQO Zip Nguyen shares her own experiences and provides specific real-life examples of good vs. bad interviews. She is also joined by some of her past and present team members, whom she has hired at both BBC Studios and Bloom in Crisis. Watch to learn more about the diverse backgrounds of Alex, Zachary, and Jenny, and how they have taken different paths to achieve success in job finding.
❤️ Special thanks to Alex Reyes for sharing her experience and Morgan Ritchey for asking a great question that many of us can relate to. Welp... you're probably not going to remember all of these, and neither am I (!) which is why internalizing the concept of "bloom in crisis" instead of trying to memorize what it means is important. Luckily, we can all do it by practicing consistently.
While I'm incredibly grateful for my journey, I know firsthand how painful and lonely it is to go through tough times alone — it urges me to give back and help others as much as I can in my lifetime. Bloom in Crisis has been transforming me and many others for the better, and I would love for you to give it a try!
Believing that everyone is a bloomer and we #bloomincrisis together, I founded Bloom in Crisis to share with you how I practice it and what I've learned throughout my journey, which, I hope, will be helpful for you in yours.

❓ "At what point in your academic or post-academic career did you figure out the specific field you wanted to pursue or the job you wanted to have?"

This June marks the one-year anniversary since my dear partner-in-crime at work, Zachary Adelmann, joined my team 🎉 Soo... I wanted to make him blush a little by shining a spotlight on this rare, wonderful young man 😎
From starting fresh in the media industry just a year ago to now sharing his insights and lessons learned with others, Zachary's sincerity and eagerness to grow make me feel lucky to be his manager. Instead of being a barrier, our differences are what make it work so well between us, and I truly can’t express enough how much I appreciate having Zachary on my team!
Here’s a bit of candid sharing combined with some fun facts about us that I hope will help alleviate some of the stress if you’re trying to find the right job or career path for yourself. Have a watch, and good luck!
🍀 Special thanks to Zachary Adelmann for sharing your experience and Isabella Espinosa for asking your question. Thank you Professor Kate Kennon for hosting the session and all the students in Business Communication class at Fordham University for your engagement ❤️

Among the many stories I’ve shared, this is probably the one that comes up most often, not only among international students but also among American students at Fordham University. I’ve been told repeatedly how recalling this story empowers them in their journey to build security in foreign countries and apply for jobs.
I decided to take a break from YouTube for a while because I missed writing and making time for quiet contemplation. But on this Father’s Day, I want to do something different... 🙆🏻♀️
My dad doesn’t speak English and he’s not even on social media, but I feel compelled to share his wisdom with the world, knowing his teachings have positively impacted my journey and deeply shaped who I am today ✨ While I don’t talk about it often, it’s been a long journey for me to grow into not only admitting but also appreciating my dad’s influence on me.
Here is one of his pieces of advice that has changed my perspective entirely, liberating my mentality like no other throughout my journey in the US.
Happy Father’s Day! 🫶

"Your quarterlife crisis is your greatest asset."
This is what I said to a student when I was asked about my mantra after we wrapped up the meeting. If you have been following my blog since I started it, you'll know that I still haven't changed my mantra until now. Not because I'm fixated on it, but rather, it's because the older I get, the more I find it true and become even more grateful for everything I've been through.
I debated with myself many times whether I should share this video or not for lots of reasons—one of them is because we recorded it back in August 2023 when I still thought Bloom in Crisis was a brand or a podcast (I later realized that it's not, but oh well, I didn't know what I didn't know! 🤪) It might seem trivial to many, but it was a huge shift for me once I internalized the essence of bloom in crisis myself.
Regardless, I still decided to publish it because I do believe this conversation about embracing pain and suffering is important to share, and I want to embrace my authentic journey, too 🙃
I hope that my sharing is helpful for you to reflect on your own journey in helping both yourself and others to build resilience and find success. Good luck! 🍀
Special thanks to Professor Kate Shea Kennon, Ed.D and Professor Linda Luca for organizing the event, and all the student attendees from Fordham Gabelli School of Business for engaging in the session 💖

One of the facts about me that often surprises others is my journey to the US. I might somehow give off the vibe that I always know what I'm doing, but unlike what most people assume, I really struggled with school and had no clue what I wanted when I was in Vietnam 🥲 The decision to come to the US and study abroad was one of those that I made in the blink of an eye without knowing what would come next, not even thinking about whether I would like it or want to stay here long term 😬
Adversity is something I've been used to since my early years, but learning to embrace it and constantly turning it into opportunity is probably one of the most enjoyable mental exercises and surprisingly fulfilling experiences in my journey ✨
I hope that my sharing is helpful for you to reflect on the potential of creating opportunities from your own challenges. Good luck! 🍀

For a long time, I used to think that one of the reasons I've been single for so long was because I might be too masculine for guys—too independent, too assertive, too stubborn, too direct, too ambitious. You know, being feminine in my mind was associated with being submissive, skilled in the kitchen, or dressing up super girly... and while I think they’re great qualities too, I just don't necessarily see myself that way.
Needless to say, I always feel surprised yet intrigued when my girlfriends tell me, "You're one of the most feminine women that I've known," or like how this conversation I had with Tyler Rohoblt in DC started because she told me that she wanted to learn more about how to cultivate the "divine femininity" which she saw in me, when this was only the second time that we had met! 😬 While it's still hard for me to believe, at least now I know that's not the reason haha (if you've watched my recent episode on being single on Valentine's Day, you'll know why) but growing to embrace my femininity in my own way is probably one of the most empowering and beautiful gifts I've allowed myself to have 💝
Do I think cultivating feminine energy is beneficial for guys as well? Absolutely. Feminine energy encompasses traits such as nurturing, intuition, empathy, creativity, and collaboration. Unlike the traditional belief, these qualities are not exclusive to any gender. Even if you're a man, you can also benefit from embracing feminine energy. Balancing both the feminine and masculine energies within ourselves allows us to foster emotional intelligence, compassion, and inner wisdom, ultimately contributing to our overall growth and fulfillment.
Special thanks to Tyler for joining me in this episode and also helping me articulate what I do to cultivate my feminine energy through our conversations—something I wasn't even consciously aware of myself until we spoke about it 🙈 (fun fact: we recorded this video months ago but it still holds true for me)
What are your ways to cultivate and unlock the power of the feminine energies within you? Comment below and let us know! 🌼🌸🌺
Bloom in Crisis is the embodiment of hope — it is a belief, a practice, a state of being that empowers you to skillfully regulate emotions, build spiritual resilience, enhance self-awareness, unleash the potential of your mind, foster a grateful heart, cultivate joy, nurture positive energy, promote inner peace, grow self-compassion and compassion for others, embrace the present moment, derive wisdom from introspection, transform pain into grace, recognize positive possibilities even in adversity, and actively shape your narrative, ultimately leading to a happy and fulfilled life (with a touch of style!)
Welp... you're probably not going to remember all of these, and neither am I (!) which is why internalizing the concept of "bloom in crisis" instead of trying to memorize what it means is important.

Many people find it surprising when I say I don’t often go to temples or read spiritual books, even though deep down, I know that I’m very spiritual and have been practicing mindfulness intuitively for a long time. While I’ve heard of the Blue Cliff Monastery for the last eight years and had always wanted to visit, it hadn’t been at the forefront of my mind until last weekend when I finally made the trip... and despite the rain, I’m so glad I did! I’ll never forget the song ‘Understanding and Compassion’ (Hiểu và Thương) that we sang together as a community, the mindful eating with the tastiest vegetarian food, sharing my learnings with Dharma Choice (Thầy Pháp Tuyển), and learning from him as we walked around the monastery. This conversation, like most of those that I’ve shared on this channel, came together in the spur of the moment ☺️

Hiểu và Thương (Understanding and Compassion) song lyrics
[English translation]
Brothers and sisters from all over the world
Siblings from across the continents
No distinction in skin color or religion
Let's come together to build and spread love
Understanding and compassion
Understanding and compassion
With understanding comes compassion
The deeper the understanding, the wider the compassion
The wider the understanding, the deeper the compassion
Deep understanding, profound compassion
Understanding and compassion
Understanding and compassion
[Vietnamese lyrics]
Anh em ta từ bốn phương trời
Chị em ta từ khắp năm châu
Không phân biệt màu da tôn giáo
Cùng về đây xây đắp yêu thương
Hiểu và thương Hiểu và thương
Có hiểu mới có thương
Hiểu càng sâu thương càng rộng
Hiểu càng rộng thương càng sâu
Hiểu sâu, thương lớn
Hiểu và thương
Hiểu và thương

Many unexpected things have happened in my life, and my experience at Monkey Island Estate is one of them 💛 After having the best facial with Sophie on my first day at the floating spa, I decided to return for another massage with Beverley the next day. It was nothing short of miraculous. Although I wasn’t consciously seeking healing energy at that time and had no specific expectations before entering, I sensed that I needed it and followed my intuition.
After our session, Beverley and I had a little chat that naturally flowed from one topic to another. Feeling completely unlocked and at peace, I couldn’t resist asking Beverley if I could record our conversation to share with you before she had to leave. No agenda, no makeup, no checking in the mirror or trying to fix anything—I just went for it. Instead of attempting to describe the healing energy I experienced, I’d love for you to feel it while listening to our conversation. Energy doesn’t need to be created, and this is why… ✨
Hope you enjoy it x

The first time I met Jeff and Saralyn, we were seated next to each other at a charming restaurant in Washington DC. Our initial exchange revolved around the delightfully delicious food, yet unexpectedly, it evolved into an unforgettable experience. With every word we shared, I grew more captivated by their genuine affection and unwavering love, even after 33 years together. Their remarkable ability to nurture such a profound connection left a deep impression on me. I found myself absorbing invaluable lessons from their journey, not only through their words but also their behaviors.
After meeting them, I was deeply touched, inspired, and transformed for the better.
Believing their love and wisdom should be more widely spread, in a spontaneous moment, I asked Jeff and Saralyn if they'd be open to letting me record our ongoing conversation so that I could share their treasured insights with you all.
No formal introduction. No pre-written script. No rehearsed lines.
Just an unfiltered exchange and a natural connection of the souls.
And this is how they grow their love together…

The process of getting a job can be stressful for anyone, but it’s particularly challenging for international students in the US. I wasn’t an exception—in fact, majoring in Marketing was probably one of the riskiest decisions for me or anyone who wanted to find sponsorship from prospective employers. It was an incredibly lonely period for me, filled with self-doubt after countless rejections. There was no guarantee that there’d be a light at the end of the tunnel, and I struggled to find advice that truly resonated with my challenges.
In this episode, I want to share with you a snippet of my conversation with students from Fordham Gabelli School of Business about the best practices when applying and interviewing for jobs. If you can relate to my story or feel lost in your job search journey, here's the real talk I wish I had when I was in school.
I hope you’ll find it helpful. Good luck! 🍀
Special thanks to Dean Kate Kennon, Professor Linda Luca, Susan McGowan, and all the students who attended and engaged in the session at @fordhamgsb.

In this episode, I'm excited to introduce you to my favorite yoga teacher, Briana Penzarella. Perhaps one of the things many people don't know about me is that, while I might manage to stay cool, calm, and collected on the outside (as I've been told), I actually cope with anxiety quite often. Practicing yoga regularly has become one of my grounding forces. It's been proven highly effective for me, but there's much more to it than meets the eye.

Welp... you're probably not going to remember all of these, and neither am I (!) which is why internalizing the concept of "bloom in crisis" instead of trying to memorize what it means is important.

Like it or not, we all have those times when we're just plain upset. I'm hoping that by letting you guys in on what I personally do when I'm feeling down—especially in real moments like this one—it might lend you a hand when you're feeling a bit low, too.
I know it sounds strange, but feeling upset can also actually be a good thing. Hang in there with me till the end of this video and you'll see just why that is... x

Setting boundaries has always been a challenge for me, and it's something I've grappled with throughout my life. In many Asian cultures, the concept of boundaries isn't frequently discussed since the emphasis often lies on being group-oriented and prioritizing others' needs over our own. Sacrificing for the greater good is deeply ingrained in our upbringing.
In this episode, I'm happy to have my dear friend and sister, Phuonggy Pham, join me as we discuss this topic. Memorizing how to set boundaries isn't something that will ever come naturally to me, so here are the techniques that I apply in my life to help me with this. If you're also struggling with setting boundaries, particularly in relationships, we hope our conversation can offer some guidance and add value to your life as well x
Here's the link to the podcast episode in which Phuonggy also interviewed me on her podcast, "Dear Future Daughters" (Episode 2: You All Have a Voice) if you want to give it a listen!

Are you an expert overthinker? Join the club 💁🏻♀️
Coming to terms with being a chronic overthinker isn't easy, and attempting to completely get rid of this tendency often backfires - it simply leads to even more overthinking! That's why, instead of striving to fight it, I've chosen to understand it and adapt my coping mechanism around it.
If you can relate to this constant cycle of overthought, don't overlook this vlog. Be sure to watch or listen till the end as it might help ;)

Building solid friendships is one of the key solutions to overcoming loneliness, but is it possible in the modern world? Can we still build deep connections with other people or just go along with superficial and shallow connections?
In this week's episode, I'm joined by Thao Le, a very good friend of mine from high school. Together, we'll share our personal reflections on what it takes to create and maintain strong, lasting friendships.

In this episode, I want to share with you guys the life-changing lessons that I'm lucky enough to learn directly from my dad.
Growing up, I've always known a man who's so determined and kind. I'm grateful to have been able to observe his lifestyle and work ethic from a young age, both of which have profoundly transformed me and shaped who I am today. Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there!
Here are the lyrics to my original song, 'Tâm Sự Của Con' (My Confession)
Nhớ con bố mẹ vẫn an lòng
[English translation]
Back when I was a little kid,
Dad loved, Mom cared, no worry I hid.
Back then, Dad walked me to school and Mom came along,
Seeing me so skinny, Mom just worried I'd be weak, not strong.
When I learned to read, and also play the piano,
Dad showed me off to everyone, so proud, full of gusto.
No matter if what I did was wise or silly,
In the end, my parents always trusted me, really.
Then came a day when I grew up, started to work,
Seeing me so busy, Mom worried again I’d get sick due to overwork.
As I kept growing, Dad's hair started turning gray,
More wrinkles marked Mom's face, as I moved further away.
The more I saw, the more I loved my parents who made me strong,
I don’t want to think about that some day, when I’m grown up but could no longer take them along.
I just wish my parents live life, happy and healthy,
Missing me, they still find peace, and are never weary.

In this episode, I want to share with you my own secrets to happiness. The key to unlocking happiness is hiding in plain sight—the very reasons we feel unhappy. Two of these reasons come from age-old wisdom taught by the Buddha, while the third is my personal addition to the mix. I hope you find this helpful!

❓What should I do if I have suicidal thoughts?
❓After someone commits suicide, what is it like for their loved ones?
❓What can we all do to contribute to suicide prevention and postvention?
Jennie lost her son, Henry, to suicide almost 10 years ago. He was a sophomore studying Art and Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. In Jennie’s words: “Henry was the funniest, most creative person I knew. He and I had shared professional interests and he worked as an intern at NVIDIA the summer before he died and planned to intern at Dropbox the following summer.”
In this episode, our CQO Zip Nguyen and Jennie Baird (EVP and Managing Director in Digital News and Streaming at BBC Studios) will be going through a series of questions chatting about Jennie’s personal story and why we need to continue raising awareness for suicide prevention. Please tune in for an inspiring conversation about how Jennie and her family have been coping with the loss of their loved one, how she #bloomincrisis through her grief, and the message that she wants to spread regarding suicide prevention and postvention.
We also want to spotlight the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Overnight Walk fundraising event. The Overnight Walk runs from dusk to dawn on June 4 in NYC and traverses over 20 miles around Manhattan to support AFSP to reduce suicide rates by 25% by 2025. Please consider supporting Jennie Baird and her team in the Overnight Walk to raise funds for AFSP – You can join Jennie’s team, or click on “Roster” to help her team members meet their targets here.
About Jennie Baird: Jennie is a digital media executive with over 30 years of experience bridging content, technology, and product. She currently serves as EVP and Managing Director in Digital News and Streaming at BBC Studios. Jennie is married to Christophe Armero with whom she raised 5 children. The couple co-facilitates a monthly suicide bereavement support group, in memory of their son Henry, who died by suicide at age 19 in 2012.

Have you ever been in a situation where you know that your loved ones are getting into trouble and you feel nothing but overwhelmed with guilt, because no matter what you do, it’s never enough?
The two-month brutal war happening in Ukraine has brought both pain and suffering to millions and millions of people. Not only did it cause direct damage to people living in Ukraine but it also hurt people who are currently living away from their home country, similar to the situation that our today’s audience has to face. Much as she has made an effort to help her loved ones, whether it is financial support or news spreading, she can’t help but feel guilty because her actions are ‘not enough.’
Our CQO Zip Nguyen has an open conversation with Lana, a young Ukrainian woman currently residing in Canada, who dials in to ask for advice to cope with the feeling of survivor guilt for “not doing enough” as she and many of her Ukrainian friends living overseas are experiencing. Given this tough situation, is there a way that any of us can do to work with our feelings while continuing to provide the support needed for the people we care about?
Listen to our newest episode “How to cope with the feeling of guilt” to find out and learn more about an authentic story shared by one of our Ukrainian listeners. We would love to know what you think after listening to our new episode, and if you’re going through a tough time as well, please don’t hesitate to reach out and share with us your stories. We’re here to help <3

Do you ever experience FOMO in either a social or professional scene and how do you manage it?
The Covid-19 pandemic has locked us in our houses and social media became the only way to communicate with the world surrounding us. While life has returned to normal in some cities, we know that many of you are still quarantined in your place. Weekend parties, holiday vacations, or just coffee hangouts with friends are now cut off from our daily routines that the fear of missing out on "worthwhile" experiences starts rising. Our audience in this episode also creates a YouTube channel to make vlogs during her time being in lockdown in Vietnam, which will not only give you an idea of what it's like but also give you a good laugh ➡️ https://bit.ly/justcallmehannah (by @jjustcallmehannah)
Understanding your struggles, BIC's back with the latest episode "How to deal with FOMO?" On this topic, CQO Zip Nguyen will open up about her "FOMO" experience and share tips to cope with it. We hope that our conversation could console and help you find a way to jump out of the loop of FOMO.

Having struggled and gone through many crises by herself, Zip Nguyen started blogging when the pandemic hit in March 2020 and later on released Bloom in Crisis podcast in June 2021, with a mission to create a global community where everyone from different cultures, generations, and backgrounds overcome tough times together, learn and uplift each other through the power of authentic storytelling, cross-learning, and sharing pragmatic advice. After receiving so much love and support from her audiences, Zip launched bloomincrisis.com, a weblog, in April 2022 to provide another outlet for stories to be told and to further expand the community. Together, we inspire each other to #bloomincrisis.
While the main language of both the weblog and the podcast is English, Zip also wants to use her platforms to bring Vietnamese voices and conversations to the world while connecting with the Vietnamese community, so there are also content written and episodes spoken in Vietnamese, Zip's native language.

About Zip Nguyen: Zip was born and raised in Vietnam. When she was just under 18, she moved to the U.S. for college and has been living there since. She started her first full-time job at New York Magazine then moved to the BBC at the end of 2019, currently leading Business Intelligence, Pricing & Yield in the Americas region in News at BBC Studios. Besides her main job, she is also a BBC Senior Leadership Team Advisor alumni and Deputy Chair of BBC Studios Next Generation Board. Zip is the founder and CQO (Chief Quarterlife-crisis Officer) for the Bloom in Crisis brand, and host of the Bloom in Crisis podcast.
About Bloom in Crisis: Globally connected, locally relevant, personally touched – Bloom in Crisis is an inclusive place to learn, share, and grow. It is where vulnerability is normalized, underrepresented voices are amplified, diversity is celebrated, honest advice and genuine support are given. We believe that no one should have to go through their crisis times alone nor navigate through life without accessible guidance.

Welcome to episode 2 of "Bloom In Crisis"!
In this episode, we want to address a question from one of our listeners who prefer to stay anonymous, which is also a topic that has been brought up to us a few times through our daily Q&As on Instagram stories and our offline conversations with many of you: academic achievements impacting confidence. In many Asian cultures including Vietnam where both Huong and I are originally from, it is often considered a key indicator of success, so peer pressure, family pressure, and social pressure, particularly in relation to academic performance, are almost unavoidable. So, is there any silver lining at all in not being among the top students in the class? And how can we still feel confident if our grades are not something to be proud of? Continue listening if you’d like to find out.

Welcome to the very first episode of "Bloom In Crisis".
In this episode, Zip and I have a conversation about a topic that interests many people of our age: self-love. We discuss our own definition of self-love, the main factors that contribute to self-love, as well as the relationship of self-love with self-hatred or self-indulgence. Through the sharing of our unique journeys to arrive at self-love, we want to use our experience to help you embrace your own journey of finding, understanding, and loving yourself.
We hope that you enjoy Episode 1: Self-Love and thank you for your support!
Co-hosts: Huong Nguyen & Zip Nguyen
