In todays episode we announce recent tightening of Church policies on Safeguarding. You can find out more about our discussion on sharing non consensual images here:https://stopncii.org/
The policy update was sent to leaders in the form of a letter. Wording as follows:
To: General Authorities; General Officers; Area Seventies; Stake, Mission, and District Presidencies; Bishoprics and Branch Presidencies; Members of Stake and Ward Councils a. At least two adults must be present at all virtual and in-person Church-sponsored activities for children or youth (see General Handbook, 20.7.1). b. Leaders should avoid one-on-one contact with a child or youth unless they are clearly visible to nearby leaders. Also avoid one-on-one contact through phone, texts, social media, videoconference, and so on unless other leaders are included. c. President Russell M. Nelson counseled “each of us to be alert to anyone who might be in danger of being abused and to act promptly to protect them” (“What Is True?,” Liahona, Nov. 2022, 29). If leaders become aware of any kind of abuse or neglect, they should report it to appropriate civil authorities and counsel with the bishop immediately (see General Handbook, 38.6.2).

Dallin H Oaks (Ensign 2012):
"We are all under the Savior’s command to love and care for each other and especially for the weak and defenseless. Children are highly vulnerable. They have little or no power to protect or provide for themselves and little influence on so much that is vital to their well-being. Children need others to speak for them, and they need decision makers who put their well-being ahead of selfish adult interests." https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2012/11/saturday-afternoon-session/protect-the-children?lang=eng

We are proud to present this week's episode - part 3 of our discussion with abuse survivor, advocate and podcaster, Dayna Kimball.
Trigger warnings. This episode will contain discussions around the subjects of childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence and rape.
Dayna's Biography
Dayna was born to a Mormon family in Utah. She was sexually abused at the age of 7. There was significant domestic violence and other forms of abuse in her family growing up. At 15, she became pregnant and was married. This was the first time she felt a sense of security and she came forward with her sexual abuse by her dad's youngest brother to the family. Through a series of unknown manipulation, it was she who was shunned. Due to unrelated circumstances, she left the church in her early 20s after investigating the truth claims of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She and her husband have 3 adult children and have been married for 32 years. Over 30 years passed from the time she was shunned when Dayna was informed that her uncle had additional victims that she never knew about. This opened a whirlwind of events. Her abuser died by suicide during the process. After her abuser passed away, the news of his abuse spread in the exmormon community, a community Dayna was not aware of prior to his passing. Rather than being discussed as an anonymous victim, she outed herself as a survivor. She's spent the last 19 months speaking out on DV and CSA coupled with religious trauma.

This week's discussion introduces our very special guest star, Benjamin Hunter!
Ben has an incredible CV, from making LDS church history by singing solo at General Conference, his starring roles in the British and Nauvoo Pageants, his private musical performances for Prophets and Apostles to name only a few highlights. We've wanted to catch up with Ben for a long time to ask him about the story behind his faith transition. How has becoming a husband and father changed his perspective on life as a latter-day saint, and how much of his experience of serving a mission in Europe has prompted his decision to resign his membership?
We invite you to join us for a funny, and painful and honest discussion about why so many young people are choosing to leave.
Content Warning: This episode feature frank discussions around sexual development and potentially damaging policies. We discuss ecclesiastical abuse and talk openly about mental health, suicidal ideation and self harm.

We are proud to present this weeks episode - part two of our discussion with abuse survivor, advocate and podcaster, Dayna Kimball.

This week we chat with wise woman Rene Steeleman. And as well as broadcasting on our home on YouTube and Facebook, we are also now streaming Live! on Twitter and Twitch! If you're joining us for the first time, welcome!
About our guest: Rene grew up in the midwest, just south of Chicago. Her mother, stepfather, and older brother joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962. During the summer of 1972, after high school graduation, Rene’ met her future husband at a church dance. He was waiting to go on his mission and she was waiting to enter active duty into the UNITED STATES NAVY. They married 2 years later after corresponding by mail. Rene’ still had one year to complete her contract with military so they spent the first year of their marriage in Yokosuka Japan. Rene’ and her husband followed the path of young LDS couples. They have 6 children and 14 grandchildren. Their youngest child had a physical malformation discovered at birth. The birthing process and lack of oxygen resulted in brain damage. Rene’ is now the caregiver of her adult child age 36 who was diagnosed with severe spastic cerebral palsy and blindness. Being a forever caregiver is an overwhelming obligation which was made more difficult by believing in a patriarchal fundamental religion. In 2020 Rene’ was introduced to LDS history which conflicted with her prior belief system. She resigned her membership in April of 2021.

The BRITISH INVASION!
Its the episode you've all been waiting for! Brit Podcasters Peter Bleakley and Nemo the Mormon are here to chat and take your questions! Who are they and why is everyone talking about British Mormon Podcasts?
A Statement from 21st Century Saints
In this discussion we demonstrate ways in which we can have different and even conflicting approaches whiles being active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We hope we have highlighted the strength that can be brought to individual faith journeys and to the Church as a whole as we unite in our desire to make the Church we love a more inclusive, honest and thoughtful spiritual home.
During our live interview with Peter Bleakley and Nemo the Mormon and in personal discussions prior to the episode, we were aware that a great many of our viewers and the wider Latter-day Saint community would have questions about the upcoming church membership council which is going to be held for Peter. The love and concern, and yes, even anger which our viewers have shared with us has been touching and heartbreaking.
On behalf of our audience and speaking from our hearts as hosts of a Webcast which amplifies the voices of those who are engaged in the Church, we wish to make our position clear. We love and support Peter and the work which he is doing to challenge and inspire us. We have found that although we often disagree with Pete's approach and conclusions, he has helped us and many of our viewers find hope and positivity within a religious community where many feel disaffected. We claim Peter as part of our beautiful Latter-day Saint community, honour him as a disciple of Jesus Christ and thank him for speaking to the pain that so many within our community feel. It is our heartfelt prayer that Peter is exonerated from the charges which have been brought and that he can continue to be the force for good which he has been in the UK and around the world. Peter has strengthened the faith of many. He has consistently praised the good which is done in our faith and spoken of the exciting, inspiring doctrines we hold dear. We pray that Peter's leaders, of whom he speaks with love, will be guided by the Spirit in their actions and that they are able to see the real hurt which so many of us will feel should any restriction be placed upon his membership.
And to you Peter, as your Sisters in the Gospel we bless you as you prepare to give your account of your actions, that you might find peace in your heart and comfort from Jesus Christ. We bless your spirits, that your heart may be calm and that you can continue to be a force for joy. We bless you to be able to hear the Spirit guide you, we bless your family with love and peace, but most especially our dear friend, we bless your journey. Wherever it takes you, we will remain steadfastly your Sisters in Christ,
Jane Christie & Alana Wilson Bryce.
