This week, I’m sharing a short personal update to let you know I’m stepping away for a few weeks to grieve the unexpected loss of my mom. Even in grief, I’m holding onto the hope we have in Christ: death does not have the final word. My mom is with Jesus, and because Christ is risen, I can grieve deeply while still holding onto the promise of resurrection. I look forward to sharing more about my mom, her legacy of hospitality and generosity, and what God is teaching me through this season.

Thank you for giving me the space to grieve, and thank you for praying for my family.

It's easy to tell ourselves, "I'm just in a busy season." But what if our greatest struggle isn't busyness; it's priorities?

In this episode, I share a powerful moment from a recent Bible study that challenged the way I think about intimacy with Christ. Together, we'll explore Jesus' invitation in John 15 to abide in Him and His example of regularly withdrawing to spend time with the Father. If you've felt spiritually dry, distracted, or like you've been waiting for the "right time" to reconnect with God, this episode is your invitation to stop waiting and reset today.

Key Scriptures: John 15:1–5, Luke 5:16

How do we cultivate biblical discernment in a world filled with competing voices? In this episode, we journey through Psalm 1 to discover that discernment is more than making wise decisions; it's learning to distinguish truth from error, righteousness from wickedness, and God's wisdom from the world's by delighting in His revealed Word.

Together, we'll explore what threatens discernment, how it is cultivated, what it produces in the life of a believer, and practical ways to grow in wisdom through Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Whether you're navigating difficult decisions, seeking spiritual maturity, or simply longing to become more deeply rooted in Christ, Psalm 1 offers a timeless invitation to walk the way of the righteous.

Have you ever felt like God was asking you to take a step of faith before showing you what comes next? In this episode, I share what God has been teaching me in a season of uncertainty as I step away from my full-time job without knowing exactly where He's leading next. Together, we'll look at Hebrews 11:8–10 and the life of Abraham to discover that faith isn't built on having all the answers; it's built on trusting the character of God.

If you're waiting for direction, wrestling with uncertainty, or learning to let go of control, I pray this conversation encourages you to keep taking the next faithful step.

When the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) made headlines over women in pastoral ministry, social media quickly filled with opinions, assumptions, and strong reactions. But as followers of Christ, how should we respond when theological disagreements arise?

In this episode, we use the recent SBC conversation as a case study to explore how Christian leaders can become the kind of leader who handles God's Word faithfully and God's people graciously. My prayer is that this conversation equips you not only to think more biblically, but to lead more like Christ.

In this episode, we're returning to Scripture to discover Jesus' definition of leadership. Together, we'll explore whybiblical leadership is different and why it matters for women serving in ministry.

This episode also marks a new chapter for The Upstream Pursuit. While our heart remains the same, we'll be more intentional about helping women serving in ministry grow in Christ-like character, leadership skills and ministry rhythms.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why leadership must be defined by Scripture, not culture.
  • What Jesus teaches about greatness in Matthew 20.
  • How to begin stewarding the responsibilities God has entrusted to you with humility, wisdom, and confidence.

Whether you have a ministry title or faithfully serve behind the scenes, this episode is an invitation to let Christ shape the way you lead.

In the final episode of the "But As For You" series, Chris Benites and I unpack 1 Timothy 6:12–16 as Paul calls Timothy to take hold of eternal life, keep the faith, and live in anticipation of Christ's return.

Together, we explore why the return of Jesus brings both hope and self-examination, what it reveals about our relationship with God, and how eternal life begins not someday in heaven, but today through knowing Christ. We also share practical encouragement for anyone who feels spiritually stale and longs to return to a place of beholding Jesus with fresh wonder.

As this series comes to a close, our prayer is that you would know Him more deeply, live faithfully until He appears, and fix your eyes on the One who is worthy of your pursuit.

What are the things Christians have normalized that Paul might have told Timothy to flee from?

In this episode of the "But As For You" series, Chris Benites and I continue our conversation through 1 Timothy 6:11 by examining some of the attitudes and behaviors that have become common in today's Christian culture.

Along the way, Chris becomes increasingly convinced that I'm asking questions designed to get him cancelled, which leads to plenty of laughter as we tackle some serious topics.

Together, we discuss social media outrage, consumer Christianity, comfort-driven discipleship, and the growing trend of wanting Christ without connection to His Church.

If Paul were writing to believers today and said, "But as for you... flee these things," what might he be talking about?

In Part 2 of the Maranatha Pursuit series, I’m joined again by Uzihel and Brisa Alfaro to talk about the heart behind their children’s book, Jesus is Coming Back, and the deeper conviction that led them to write it.

As a child, Brisa experienced Christ’s return as distant, while Uzihel experienced it through fear. Now as parents, they’re committed to passing down something different:

A longing for Christ.
A longing for His return.
A life lived in anticipation, not for the things of this world, but for the One who is to come.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The heart behind their book and the message they hope to pass on
  • How many of us were discipled with an incomplete view of the Gospel
  • Why Christ’s return is essential, not optional to the full Gospel story
  • How Scripture has always pointed forward to a returning King

This week on The Upstream Pursuit, we begin a 5-part conversation in what I’m calling The Maranatha Pursuit—learning to live in faithful expectation of Jesus’ return while walking through everyday life.

I’m joined by longtime friends Uzihel Alfaro and Brisa Alfaro for a meaningful catch-up that goes deeper than updates. Since we last spoke, life has shifted—marriage, family, and seasons that required real waiting on God.

We talk about what it looks like to wait well: trusting God in relationships, provision, and prayer-filled seasons of uncertainty. Their story sets the foundation for this series on living with a Maranatha posture.

We also highlight their new venture, Cultura Coffee Co., a business built on purpose and partnership. (IG: culturacoffee.co)

Be sure to tune in next week as we dive into their children’s book, Jesus Is Coming Back, and the heart behind teaching this message to the next generation.

What does it look like to be content no matter the circumstance? In Philippians 4:10–23, Paul closes his letter with a powerful reflection on contentment, provision, and partnership in the gospel. Writing from prison, he reveals that true contentment is not found in having more or less, but in learning to depend fully on Christ in every situation. As he thanks the Philippians for their faithful support, Paul reframes their generosity not as mere giving, but as participation in the work of the gospel and an offering pleasing to God.

This final section brings the letter full circle, showing that a life rooted in Christ is steady in both abundance and need, confident in God’s provision, and fully engaged in His mission.

What is shaping your mind and are you following the pattern that leads to true peace? In Philippians 4:1–9, Paul lays out a clear pattern for a steady, anchored life in Christ. Writing to a church facing both internal conflict and external pressure, he calls believers to stand firm, pursue unity, replace anxiety with prayer, and intentionally fix their minds on what is true and good. As Paul moves from instruction to practice, he reminds us that the goal is not just a feeling of peace, but the presence of the God of peace.

Have you ever felt like you should be “further along” in your faith—or wondered if you’re measuring your life by the wrong standard? In Philippians 3:12–21, Paul confronts the illusion of spiritual arrival and redirects the believer’s focus toward a lifelong pursuit. Though he has gained Christ, he makes it clear that he has not yet reached the finish line. Instead, he presses on, leaving behind both past confidence and past failure, straining toward what lies ahead.Paul draws a sharp contrast between those who live for the present world and those whose citizenship is in heaven. The upward call is to move forward with intention, endurance, and eternal perspective. Are you pursuing what actually lasts or what simply feels right in the moment?

In this episode, we step into Philippians 3:1–11 and uncover what it truly means to count everything as loss for the sake of Christ. After calling believers to unity, joy, and humility, Paul issues a strong warning against performance-based faith and exposes the danger of placing confidence in anything other than Jesus. What once defined identity, success, and righteousness is now re-evaluated in light of one truth: knowing Christ is worth everything.

After calling believers to humility and obedience, he presents two living examples of what Christlike devotion looks like in everyday life: Timothy and Epaphroditus.

In this episode, we explore Philippians 2:19–30, where Paul redefines honor in a culture obsessed with status. These closing verses show us that Christian greatness is not measured by platform or prominence, but by steady faithfulness and costly partnership in the gospel.

What does it mean to live a life worthy of the gospel, especially when following Jesus comes with opposition, pressure, and suffering? In this episode, we unpack Philippians 1:18-30, which confronts comfortable Christianity and invites us into a deeper, more resilient pursuit of Christ. Paul reminds us that suffering for Christ isn’t an accident or a failure of faith; it’s a gift that accompanies belief. In this episode, we continue our journey through Philippians by studying Philippians 1:12–18. As Paul writes from confinement under Roman authority, he reframes his circumstances not as a setback, but as a means by which the gospel advances. We explore how Paul’s imprisonment emboldened other believers, exposed mixed motives within ministry, and ultimately revealed a mature joy rooted not in fairness or freedom, but in Christ being proclaimed.

The pursuit in this passage calls us to trust God’s work beyond our control and to redefine success as gospel faithfulness rather than personal comfort or recognition.

In this episode, we take an honest look at the subtle ways the Santa myth shapes our understanding of goodness, gifts, behavior, and belief. We explore how the lie of Santa contradicts the Truth at the heart of the Gospel and how it can unintentionally distort the way children view God, grace, and His love.

This isn’t an episode about legalism or fear — it’s about discernment, discipleship, and elevating the beauty of Jesus above cultural myths.

Through an exegesis of 1 Thessalonians 5:18, the story of the woman with the alabaster jar, and practical ways to stay grateful during the Christmas rush, you’ll learn how to cultivate a thankfulness that lasts long after the season ends.

In this episode, we continue our conversation with four incredible Gen Z girls from my church. This time we are hearing from Sebathany and Karina. Both young women share how Christ became real to them in powerful and personal ways.

The audio can’t fully capture the emotion we felt in the room as Karina opened up about an experience that changed her life, one that ultimately drew her closer to the Lord and deepened her hunger for His Word. Then, Sebathany invites us into her spiritual rhythms, sharing the disciplines that help her nurture her relationship with Jesus day by day.

Their honesty, wisdom, and love for God will both challenge and inspire you—reminding us that no matter our age, true faith is born in surrender and grows through intimacy with Christ.

In this closing episode of our Repentant Lament series, we explore the final verses of Psalm 51, where David’s prayer shifts from personal forgiveness to the restoration of God’s people. Sin is never just private—it weakens families, churches, and even nations. But repentance not only cleanses the heart, it rebuilds the walls of community and strengthens God’s people for worship that truly delights Him. Together, we’ll trace the psalm’s flow from guilt to grace, from brokenness to renewal, and from lament to worship, finding its ultimate fulfillment in Christ, the true Temple and Cornerstone.

In a world full of division, anger, and grief, how do we respond as followers of Christ? In this episode, we reflect on the tragic death of Charlie Kirk not to dwell on politics, but to examine our own hearts and the sin that dulls our awareness of God’s presence. Using Psalm 51:7–12 as our guide, we explore David’s model of repentant lament—confessing without excuses, seeking cleansing we cannot achieve on our own, and asking God to renew our hearts and spirits. This episode is a call to turn inward, lay down bitterness, pride, and compromise, and experience the joy, intimacy, and restoration only found in Christ.

In this episode, we begin our journey through Psalm 51 with David’s opening cry: “Have mercy on me, O God.” After being confronted with his sin, David doesn’t excuse or justify himself; he throws himself on the mercy of God. Whether you feel the weight of past failure or the daily struggle of following Jesus, this episode will remind you that God’s mercy is greater than your sin. As disciples, we are called not to run from Him in shame, but toward Him in honesty, where mercy meets us, cleanses us, and makes us new.

In Part 1, we explored the pain of church hurt—the deep wounds that can come from betrayal, gossip, manipulation, or leadership gone wrong. But not every uncomfortable experience in church is abuse. In this episode, we’ll dive into the difference between biblical accountability and spiritual abuse, because sometimes what people call church hurt is really just being held accountable for harmful choices. This is a conversation about discernment, responsibility, and healing.

🕊️ There is clarity.
❤️ There is responsibility.
✝️ And there is still a healthy way to grow within the body of Christ.

Church hurt is real, and it runs deep. Maybe it came through betrayal, abuse of power, gossip, or spiritual manipulation. Maybe you gave your heart to fellow believer or community that didn’t protect it. In this part 1 of this episode, we discuss what church hurt is and the emotional and spiritual impact of being hurt in a place that was supposed to be safe.

If you’ve ever felt disillusioned, discarded, or distant from God because of how people treated you in His name, I'm sorry!

🕊️ There is hope.
❤️ There is healing.
✝️ And there is still beauty in the body of Christ.

In this heartfelt episode, I sit down with my friend, Glenda Medina, as she shares her honest reaction after learning of the allegations against her former pastor, Robert Morris of Gateway Church. She opens up about the confusion, pain, and processing that followed—and why she ultimately chose to remain rooted in her church community. Her story is one of wrestling with disappointment, leaning into faith, and finding her anchor in Christ.

Please note: This is her personal experience and perspective. It does not represent the official views of Gateway Church. At the time of this recording, the church was still without a senior pastor; however, on May 25th, a new lead pastor has been announced.

In this episode, we explore a truth that hits close to home for many of us: the danger of being so busy for God that we forget to be with Him. Drawing from Luke 10:38–42, we revisit the story of Martha and Mary—two sisters, two postures, one choice that Jesus calls “better.”

Through practical reflection and a heartfelt invitation to slow down, this episode challenges the idea that spiritual busyness equals spiritual health. We’ll unpack why even good service can become spiritually dangerous when it distracts us from intimacy with Jesus—and how to shift from burnout to being rooted in His presence.

If you've ever felt overcommitted, overwhelmed, or quietly worn out “doing for God,” this is for you.

“They took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.” – Acts 18:26

In a time when women’s voices were often silenced, Priscilla stood courageously for the gospel. Alongside her husband Aquila, she didn’t just support the mission—she actively taught and discipled others, including the gifted speaker Apollos. In this episode, I share her story as a powerful reminder that God calls and equips both men and women to proclaim His truth. Like Priscilla, we are called to share the gospel boldly and accurately—in our homes, churches, and everyday conversations.

In this episode, we're diving into a question from one of our Pursuers: How should we behave towards believers who view our biblical convictions as bigotry?

Navigating differences in belief—especially within the body of Christ—can feel heavy, but it's also an opportunity to reflect God's love. Together, we'll break down what bigotry means, assess our own hearts with humility, and explore how Scripture calls us to approach tough conversations.

We'll talk about:
✨ How to pray for understanding and unity
✨ Speaking truth with love and grace
✨ The power of listening with curiosity
✨ Responding with compassion, not defensiveness

At the end of the day, our highest calling is to honor God — and that means honoring people, even when we don't see eye to eye.

Over the last few years, I have witnessed the berating, shaming and bullying of Christians and conservatives for their biblical and/or political views. In this episode, I am joined by my sorority sister and sister-in-Christ, Daisy Schroeck, as we process together the criticism, feelings, cost, Godly rebukes, and lessons learned from sharing our faith publicly. We look to Scripture to see how we ought to respond when faced with rejection and opposition. Prayer is a vital practice in our Christian faith, serving as a way to communicate with God, express our thoughts and desires, and align our hearts with His will. In this week’s episode, my witty friend Sarah Whitt, no pun-intended, joined me for a candid conversation on building intimacy with the Lord through prayer. This conversation builds on last week’s episode on ways Jesus modeled prayer for us. We discuss common reasons why some of us may not feel as confident praying and we draw from personal experiences to overcome those barriers. Next week, Sarah and I will look to the Lord’s prayer as a framework to learn how to pray.
