San Bernardino City Unified School District
Listen to classroom teachers as they discuss a wide -range of issues affecting K-12 classroom teaching practices as they positively impact the lives of their learners. The Demonstration Teacher program started in 2014 as a way to increase professional development and at the same time keep the district's best teachers in their classrooms. As well as opening classrooms for observations, producing videos, presenting workshops, working with student teachers, and onboarding newly hired teachers the Demonstration Teachers are now offering their podcasts to teachers everywhere.
Chris Petriccione teaches STEM Pathways at Curtis Middle School in San Bernardino. He discusses the successful STEM Career Pathway at San Bernardino City Unified School District that is nationally recognized as one of the few pathways that spans from K-12 in the country. He discusses the importance of highly engaging projects within a STEM pathway and how this leads to a successful program in terms of enrollment, classroom management, and gender equity.

Oana Matei teaches ELA at Serrano Middle School in San Bernardino. She talks about the use of quickwrites as a method for increasing students' writing skills as they read and emulate mentor texts. She also discusses how she integrates SEL (social emotional learning) topics into her daily 2-3 minute quickwrites.

Sarah Holm teaches Moderate-Severe special education students at San Bernardino High School. She helped write the school district's Basics3 Curriculum and describes the frameworks involved with teaching special education students within the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Preparing her special education students for life beyond high school is her passion as she prepares them for this transition.

Connie Jones is a middle school ELA teacher at Cesar Chavez Middle School in San Bernardino, CA. She takes on many roles at her school site including teaching a publication and design class, serves as the site tech coach, and is also a teacher induction support provider. Her classroom environment reflects her positive attitude and she provides some interesting insights into how she is supporting students returning to the physical classroom after a year of virtual learning.

Maribel Alba is a sixth grade teacher at Warm Springs Elementary School in San Bernardino. As a leader in educational technology, she has embraced distance learning and provides some thoughtful insights into how distance learning benefits many of her students.

Ashley Ortiz is a seventh and eighth grade special education teacher of mild to moderate students at Curtis Middle School. She takes a structured approach to her classroom management strategies and has a strong focus on SEL (social/emotional learning) with her middle school students.

Dr. Kim Thomas is a 6th grade teacher at Rio Vista Elementary School. She has studied and taught theoretical linguistics at the post secondary level and brings her love of languages to her students in San Bernardino. She has found many aspects of distance learning to be positive for her students and shares how she will use these unexpected positive outcomes in her future teaching practices in the physical classroom. Tom Pham is a chemistry teacher at Cajon High School and works with International Baccalaureate students. Jackie Lacey is an Environmental Education Resource teacher at Kimbark Elementary School. Every student at Kimbark from TK-5th grade has the opportunity to learn with Ms. Lacey every week. Her hands-on, creative approach to science allows her students to manage and care for a multitude of animals in her classroom, cultivate school vegetable gardens, as well as gain experience with engineering challenges. Traci Kelley teaches PE (physical education) at PaaKuma and Kimbark Elementary Schools. She has taken creative steps to deliver lessons in movement and promote healthy lifestyles as her students are taught virtually during the 2020/2021 school year. Her approach to developing positive healthy lifestyles in her students is multi-faceted with a large emphasis on character development. Michael Doll is a mathematics teacher at Middle College High School in San Bernardino.
