On 93.1 JAMZ Community and Culture Inside Out, DJ Fusion talked with Sarah, the owner of Crash Box Therapy, Fitchburg’s new destination for people who need a real, physical release. The concept is simple and powerful. You can book a session to safely smash glassware and select items, or step into a paint splatter room and let creativity do the heavy lifting.

Crash Box Therapy was created for the moments when life feels heavy and you need a place to put that energy. Sarah comes from a wellness background through her other business, Earthly Temptations, where she offers sound baths, meditation, and relaxation experiences. After sessions, clients kept saying the same thing. They felt calm, but they still needed a place to smash something. That request sparked the idea, and Sarah found a gap in the Madison area. There was no dedicated smash space here, so she built one.

Crash Box Therapy is designed around safety and structure. Guests get suited up with protective gear including a painter suit, helmet, and eye protection. Everyone signs a waiver, then learns safe swinging and throwing methods before starting. It keeps the experience fun, purposeful, and controlled.

The business also solves a big problem. People do break things when they are stressed, but it usually happens in the wrong place at the wrong time, with big consequences. Crash Box Therapy creates a safer alternative where the release is intentional and the environment is built for it.

Not everyone wants to break things, which is why the paint therapy room exists. The paint splatter room is open to ages eight and up and can fit up to seven people, making it a strong option for family fun, birthday parties, and group celebrations.

For the smashing experience, the age limit starts at 15 and up. Appointments are required, not walk ins, because each session needs to be prepared with the right items and safety setup.

Crash Box Therapy is located at 319 West Beltline Highway in Fitchburg, right off the Beltline near Easy Pawn and Pitcher’s Pub. It is accessible for entry with wide doors and a ramp, and the team is ready to help clients as needed.

They also host special events that bring different audiences into the space, including work stress nights, ladies focused nights, and smash plus sound bath sessions that combine physical release with a calming wind down. Looking ahead, they plan to expand events, increase corporate bookings, and introduce glow in the dark paint options for the paint therapy room.

Crash Box Therapy is also looking for donations, especially glassware and breakable items people do not want to resell. They accept small electronics and appliances too, but do not take laptops or computers because batteries can be hazardous when smashed. Donation pickup times are available Sundays and Mondays by emailing info@crashboxtherapy.com.

To book your session, visit CrashBoxTherapy.com. For questions, you can email info@crashboxtherapy.com or call 608 285 5059.

If you are searching for a rage room near Madison, stress relief in Fitchburg, a paint splatter room in Wisconsin, or a unique wellness experience that actually matches real life stress, Crash Box Therapy is worth checking out.

Madison streetwear just got a serious upgrade.

On 93.1 JAMZ Community and Culture Inside Out, DJ Fusion sat down with Drew, founder of D’GMC, a Black owned streetwear brand in Madison, Wisconsin that is redefining what urban fashion can represent.

D’GEMC is not just a name. It stands for Dedication, Gratitude, Excellence, Maturity, and Character. The brand was officially launched in 2022, but the grind behind it stretches back nearly eight years. What started as pressing shirts at home and selling pieces at local venues has now evolved into a fully produced designer level clothing collection.

The Dedication 22 Collection includes:

  • Premium denim jeans with custom logo buttons and stitched branding
  • High quality leather pullover
  • Two jogger sets including zip up and pullover styles
  • Crew tees and polo tees
  • Branded beanie hats
  • Fully customized labels, wash instructions, and interior detailing

This is not a print on demand t shirt operation. Every piece is designed from thread to finish. From embroidery placement to fabric selection, Jemcee focuses on quality materials and intentional craftsmanship.

Drew explained that much of his inspiration came from travel, family, and especially his son. While building his career as a local music artist, he wore his own designs on stage as promotion. Over time, the fashion side began to gain more traction. Instead of chasing short term moves, he made a long term investment into building a sustainable brand.

That decision represents the maturity piece of D’GEMC meaning.

The Dedication 22 drop is structured as a full collection, not just individual pieces. Customers can mix and match denim, leather, joggers, tees, and hats to create a cohesive look. It follows the same strategy major design houses use, giving Madison a streetwear brand that feels national in quality while staying rooted locally.

D’GEMC is currently available online at DGEMC.online and in store at Serial Clothing on East Washington in Madison.

For Drew, being a Black owned business in Madison means progress. It means moving toward the good. It means building something the city can acknowledge and support.

With the winter focused launch underway and a summer drop already in the works, Jemcee is positioning itself as a serious contender in Madison streetwear.

Support local. Support Black owned businesses. Support brands built with dedication.

Sun Prairie is growing fast, and one local business is filling a gap that national chains ignored.

On 93.1 JAMZ Community and Culture Inside Out, DJ Fusion highlighted Drive Oscar, a Black owned car rental business in Sun Prairie run by Antonio, a local entrepreneur focused on family, service, and long term legacy.

Drive Oscar is not positioned at the airport. It is not built around fees and friction. It is built around community convenience and affordability.

Antonio chose Sun Prairie after noticing something simple. People from surrounding towns were driving into Madison just to rent a car, because there were no options closer to home. Sun Prairie had booming growth, plenty of car dealerships, and no real rental presence from the big companies. Antonio saw a solution and moved on it.

Drive Oscar now operates a fleet of about a dozen vehicles and offers a wide range of options that match real needs. Customers can rent a pickup truck for moving, a smaller car for getting around town, an SUV for comfort, or a minivan and seven seater for family travel. Antonio keeps pricing affordable, often landing in the $30 to $50 per day range depending on the vehicle and timing, and he offers discounts for longer rentals. He also adds extra value with occasional perks like money back, free days for multi day bookings, and gift cards.

What makes the story even bigger is the mission behind it.

Antonio put the business in his son’s name from day one. He says it plainly. He works for his son. That is the difference between talking about legacy and building it on paper and in practice. Antonio has three daughters as well, and he wants his children to grow into ownership, responsibility, and self sufficiency.

He also speaks openly about the realities of building a business without loans or grants. Maintaining a fleet requires constant reinvestment. Engines, transmissions, repairs, and upkeep never stop. Antonio handles it, keeps the pricing steady, and leans on consistency, research, and strong relationships to keep growing. He has spent serious time learning the funding side, approaching banks, asking questions repeatedly, and doing the unglamorous work of building credit and trust.

Drive Oscar is located at:

1500 West Main Street, Suite 1, Sun Prairie, WI

To browse vehicles and book online:
DriveOscar.com and search the Sun Prairie location.

To contact Antonio directly:
608 440 1989

If you want to support a Black owned business in Wisconsin and you want a rental experience that feels human, local, and flexible, Drive Oscar in Sun Prairie is worth checking out.

Discover how One City Schools is transforming public education in Madison, Wisconsin with its unique charter model, two, generation impact approach, and vision to develop tomorrow's leaders. Check out Fusion's exclusive interview with founder Kaleem Caire and board member Noble Ray.

A Bold Vision for Education in Madison

At the heart of Madison’s south side stands a movement that’s redefining what public education can look like. One City Schools, founded in 2014 by Kaleem Caire, is more than a charter school network—it’s a community, powered revolution with the mission to cultivate future leaders who are not only academically prepared but also passionate about changing the world for the better.

In an exclusive interview with DJ Fusion on 93.1 JAMZ's Fusion Afternoons, Kaleem Caire and former Madison Police Chief and current One City board member Noble Ray shared powerful insights into their work, growth, and goals for the future.

A Mission Rooted in Equity and Excellence

One City Schools operates with a clear mission: to prepare children for college, careers, and community leadership. Through an extended school year and longer school days, they ensure that every child—especially those historically underserved—has the time, support, and environment they need to thrive.

"We’re producing transformational leaders," said Caire. "Our kids are joyful, engaged, and motivated. We’re working with a high, need population, and it shows in our academic gains."

A Two,Generation Impact Approach

One City isn’t just educating kids—they’re empowering families. With programs serving children from infancy through 8th grade, they take a holistic approach to success, combining rigorous academics with family and community engagement. The preschool accepts children as young as two, while staff with infants can enroll them onsite in the school’s infant center.

What Sets One City Apart

As a public charter school authorized by the Universities of Wisconsin, One City is open to students from across the state. With no entrance exams and a lottery, based admission when applications exceed capacity, equity is baked into the process.

Key features include:

Year, round academic calendar (ending in mid,July) , Athletics from kindergarten through middle school , Diverse extracurriculars like golf, ice skating, and Topgolf partnerships , Strong father involvement and parent, teacher engagement , High staff retention and community volunteerism

Real Results, Real Progress

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, One City Schools has delivered impressive academic growth. From 2023–2024 alone:

Black student reading proficiency rose from 2% to 21% , Latino student reading proficiency jumped from 16% to 42% , In third and fourth grade, the gains were even greater—up to 60% for Latino students

"We’re showing what’s possible when you believe in kids," Caire noted. "We’re not just trying to catch up—we’re setting the bar."

A Culture of Belonging and Joy

Visitors to One City consistently notice three things: the joy on students’ faces, deep engagement in learning, and a visible, diverse parent presence—especially fathers. The culture is vibrant, welcoming, and focused on developing proud, solution, driven young leaders.

Community Partnership, Not Competition

One City Schools works alongside MMSD and other local districts to elevate all students, not divide them. As Noble Ray emphasized, "Education is too important to lock into one model. We need innovation, collaboration, and community commitment."

10th Anniversary Celebration: Rally for Our Future

On July 10, 2025, One City Schools will host "Rally for Our Future" at The Sylvee in Madison. Featuring keynote speaker LeVar Burton and education icon Dr. Gloria Ladson,Billings, this celebration is both a fundraiser and a rallying cry for the future of Wisconsin’s children.

Proceeds from the event will support One City’s operating costs and ongoing renovations at their Pleasant Rowland Leadership Campus—a 157,000,square,foot hub for K–8 education on Madison’s Beltline.

How You Can Support One City

Attend the Rally on July 10: Tickets available at weareonecity.org and The Sylvee’s website , Donate: Your support helps bridge the funding gap between charter and traditional public schools , Visit the school: See the difference for yourself , Spread the word: Share their mission, stories, and success

One City Schools is building more than a school system—they’re building a movement. A movement focused on joy, achievement, and leadership for all children, especially those too often left behind. With ten years of proof and a bold vision for the future, One City is creating the change Wisconsin needs—one student at a time.

Youth football in Madison just got a major upgrade, thanks to Coach Sherman Lightfoot and the Madtown Elite Bulldogs.

In just two years, this Black-owned Pop Warner football organization has taken the game to new heights—winning state championships, competing at Soldier Field, and keeping young athletes engaged and off the streets.

I had the chance to sit down with Coach Lightfoot, the driving force behind the Bulldogs, to talk about their incredible journey, the impact of youth sports, and why Madison families should get involved.

Building Champions On and Off the Field

Coach Lightfoot’s vision for the Madtown Elite Bulldogs goes beyond just winning games. His goal? To create a safe, structured, and competitive environment where young athletes (ages 6-13) can develop not only as football players but also as leaders.

“This program isn’t just about football—it’s about giving kids an opportunity to stay active, develop discipline, and be part of something bigger than themselves,” says Coach Lightfoot.

With no weight limits and a high level of competition, the Bulldogs are a perfect fit for young athletes looking for a challenge. The program includes travel games, playoffs, championship rings, and trophies, making it an elite-level experience for Madison youth.

Year-Round Training and Two Tackle Seasons

Parents looking for a top-tier football program in Madison have two options to sign their kids up:

  • Spring Tackle Season – Kicking off with pre-season training, spring tackle prepares young athletes for competition early in the year.
  • Fall Tackle Season – The primary season with league games, playoffs, and championship opportunities.

💰 Sign up for both seasons and receive a discount!

Investing in a year-round training and competition experience gives young athletes the best chance to develop their skills and stay ahead of the game.

Sponsorship Opportunities Available

Want to support youth football in Madison? Businesses and community leaders can sponsor the Madtown Elite Bulldogs to help provide more opportunities for local kids.

I started Issa Slayy Boutique because Im super extra! I love to be cute. It all started when I was in fourth grade, dressing up for my basketball games. It was to the point I would really get upset because the referee would make me take off my ear rings. I knew fashion was something my heart been telling me to do. I watched every episode of Americas Next Top Model wishing I was the girls in the Outfits, crazy hairstyles, dramatic changes, and beautiful make up. I believe that confidence can often start with what you wear and how what you wear makes you feel. I also started Issa Slayy Boutique to be affordable for all women.

Welcome to the Throne!

I'm Stephanie Prewitt, better known as Queen P.  I love creating unique earrings.  I am based in Madison, Wisconsin with strong Detroit roots.

My family is everything. My husband Dionte, children Demetria & Origin, & our dog Biscuit.  I am obsessed with tea, coach purses, and Mickey Mouse.  My guilty pleasure is watching the lifetime movie network.  I am no fashionista, but I love stylish earrings that make strong statements.

I started "Queen P's Throne" after working with distributers last year.  That sparked a passion inside of me that I didn't know was there.  So now I design laser-cut earrings and hand paint them myself.

As I grow, I plan to expand and offer more variety.  Join me on the journey to make Queen P's Throne the right place for your earrings!

The Sable Flames began as a result of great tragedy. On March, 13, 1990, a fire in Sommerset Circle (located within the Town of Madison) claimed the lives of Mrs. Cheryl Jones' five children: Derrick Robinson (age 9), Kenneth Jones (age 5), Eboni Jones (age 2), Cynthia Jones (age 1), and Mark Jones (age 5 months). Events surrounding the fire divided families, communities, and department personnel.

The African American firefighters of the City of Madison decided to act.  A benefit was created to provide scholarships to ethnic minorities. The "Second Alarm Benefit Dance" was born.  Usually in the month of February, the Sable Flames host a benefit dance at a local Madison hotel.  All the proceeds from this event go directly to the Jones-Robinson Scholarship in the names of the children that passed away that March night in 1990. This scholarship benefit not only helps individual fulfill their educational goals, it helps bring the community together in a positive atmosphere.

In addition to providing scholarships, the Sable Flames also exist to help each other.  The mission of the organization is to provide support, knowledge and leadership to its members as well as all members of the fire service. The organization recognizes the importance of hiring, recruitment, promotion and retention of African Americans and other persons of color.

The Sable Flames Inc., conducts community service activities and assists other individuals and organizations that do the same. The Sable Flames Inc., is a non-profit, tax exempt organization and contributions are tax-deductible.

Founded in 2014, Harambee Village is a community-based doula organization committed to mothers, babies, and families based in Madison, Wisconsin.

Harambee Village Doulas is a community-based doula agency that consists of a team of trusted, compassionate professionals trained by the industry's leading doula organizations. Our mission is to enhance the childbearing experience, empowering women by promoting doula support, advocating evidenced based care and providing accessible education based on the mother-centered model of maternity care.

We are a collective of birth professionals who support women and families with a specific aim to dismantle disparities of race, class, gender and sexuality that lead to negative birth experiences, especially for women of color, birthing people with economic barriers, survivors of trauma, immigrant families, queer and transgendered folks. We put mothers and babies first, working effectively with your entire support team including their partners, family members and midwives or medical personnel to provide your well rounded care. Our philosophy is that birth is a normal and natural process.

Trusting that each birthing person knows how to give birth instinctively, we believe that offering information, guidance, the power of touch, and a range of support from emotional to educational- we can replace questions with answers and worry with empowerment. Our work involves educating the community, and challenging abuses by medical personnel and overuse of medical interventions. It also involves advocating for universal access to culturally appropriate, patient-centered health care. It includes the right to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy, to choose when, where, how, and with whom to birth, including access to traditional and indigenous birth-workers, such as midwives and doulas, and the right to breastfeeding support.

Alnisa Allgood founded Collab 4 Good using technology to drive Black entrepreneurs to bypass systems that would normally repress them, by creating their own business, taking control of their future.

When it comes to the social good sector ie, nonprofits, public institutions, and social entrepreneurs, Collaboration 4 Good’s mission is to change the foundations and philosophy that if you work in a nonprofit you have to be a volunteer, work free, or at a reduced rate--a consistent thread that she feels feeds into racism, sexism, and other isms.  It also takes away from mental health, and makes the social good sector weaker.

Collab 4 Good enables existing nonprofits and social good sector businesses to restructure, offering employees a liveable wage that enables sustainability within the business model.   Entrepreneurial mentoring teaches new nonprofits and social good businesses that same philosophy.  In a technology driven society, Collaboration 4 Good is a necessity.

Alnisa is a tech geek at heart, which really, is what led to Collaboration 4 Good. For most of her adult life, Alnisa has owned her own technology consulting company, Non Profit Tech.   The two companies work together very synergistically.   Non Profit Tech is a consulting agency using earned income to provide tech services in the social good sector.  Some of the services offered include digital marketing, social media posting, database design, web design, network & system administration, and user support/training for remote work.  Alnisa’s quality of work and solid reputation has led to international acclaim; she is now providing services globally.

Black women in history are generally hidden. For instance,  activist, author, and lawyer, Pauli Murray.  Pauli  wrote a book called “States' Laws on Race and Color” later referred to by Thurgood Marshall as the “The Bible” of the civil rights movement.  Pauli Murray fought at a time when white supremacy argued that separate could be equal.  Separate will NEVER be equal.

Doctor Sagashus Levingston is the founder and owner of Infamous Mothers LLC, an education, media, and technology company building health and wealth within the context of work & entrepreneurship for a strong community of Black women. For over 5 years, she's been connecting and empowering women who have been stigmatized, then managed to overcome the stigma and do something very extraordinary in our society.

"An Infamous mother is BADDER THAN BAD! In literature, this woman had to be more than an outlaw…she had to be infamous. She had to be someone who had been seen as both morally deviant or reprehensible AND as someone who was integral to stopping a genocide, changing policy, sparking a revolution."

  • Doctor Sagashus Levingston

While working to become a doctor, Levingston passed through several of the best institutions in this country to receive her education. Starting at Holy Angels Catholic School on the south side of Chicago, Lake Forest Academy Boarding school for high school and then transitioning to higher education via University of Illinois at Chicago for her undergrad degree.  Passing through these institutions, and others, she realized she was taught very little about Black writers during enslavement.  It was years later in her career when she was teaching that led her to discover that Frederick Douglas was not the only Black author to be published during slavery.  This knowledge led her to pursue her Masters degree at the UW of Madison, WI--where she lives as proud mother of 6 children.

Meet Kingsley Gobourne, owner of Artemis Provisions, a family owned, farm to table service offering a variety of locally grown meats & cheeses.

Today, farmers are very disconnected from the end consumers and not always rewarded for their hard work. Before the products reach a consumer, they go through processing plants, packaging plants, wholesalers, and grocery stores before eventually reaching the end consumer.  Kingsley created Artemis Provisions to close the gap from farmer to consumers. In the face of a pandemic, the farm to table concept has flourished.

The saying “you get out, what you put in” really rings true when it comes to your food and your health.  When we look at our communities and, more specifically, our Black communities, the effects of highly processed and high sugar/high carbohydrate diets are clear. Illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and other long term health ailments are rampant–the data is scary. Artemis enables consumers to be connected to where their food is coming from as well as being better connected to their health and wellbeing.

“Once you see and taste the difference that locally grown produce provides, you will never return to the store for your meat, eggs and cheese again.”

- Kingsley Gobourne owner of Artemis Provisions

Dr. Jasmine Zapata, also known as Dr. Jas, is an author, a community advocate, and the owner of Motivational MD Publishing.

A direct descendant of slaves, she felt heavily impacted when learning the repercussions of slaves learning to read, write, or self-educate in any way. Black slaves, if caught trying to read or learn, would be beaten, whipped, or could have fingers chopped off as punishment. The white citizens caught helping slaves with their education would face fines. Slaves were held back from education because their oppressors knew that if the enslaved were educated, they would know the severity of their situation and rebel. This oppression has led to generations of racial inequality.

“Never stop learning! Our education is our ticket to freedom. Education will take you so many places.” This is advice Dr. Jas received from her grandfather, who lived through the civil rights era. Taking that advice to heart, she’s been in school from age 5 all the way through age 32.

Motivational MD Publishing is Jasmine’s own form of resistance. She has helped birth a new generation of authors by recruiting like-minded writers and providing a method to share Black stories, truths, and traumas, helping guide these new authors through the process of publishing their own books. Motivational MD Publishing is about empowering, healing, and uplifting the next generation of youth. In 2017 Dr. Jas authored an empowering book series for girls. Beyond Beautiful – A Girl’s Guide To Unlocking the Power of Inner Beauty, Self Esteem, Resilience & Courage, which sent her on a 14 day national tour spreading the strong message to our nation’s young women. This February, during Black History Month, Dr. Jas is releasing Beyond Beautiful 2 – A Girl’s Guide To Studying Self-Care & Staying Focused During Difficult Times.

You’re invited to the virtual book launch celebrating Beyond Beautiful 2 – A Girl’s Guide to Studying Self-Care & Staying Focused During Difficult Times.  RSVP for FREE today at www.beyondbeautifultour.org for the launch party on February 13th at 3pm CST.

Barbara Boustead, the owner of Mary’s Daughter LLC, offers day to day money management services for seniors and veterans.  Providing peace of mind for her clients and reducing their stress, Mary’s Daughter is the culmination of Barbara’s life mission, which has always been to be of service to others.

The importance of generational wealth and saving for the future is something Barbara instills in her own children. According to Barbara, one of the best ways to start building generational wealth is to buy a home. Most people are happy to settle for getting a paycheck and going out to buy a new car.  Barbara wants to make your money work for you in the long run; she helps make sure those instant gratification purchases are held to a minimum.

Trauma from slavery passed down generation after generation, gentrification of suburban neighborhoods, and other racial inequalities for Black Americans makes owning a home much harder for Black folks. Barbara recommends a few different local programs to help first time home buyers realize it is possible!

Gary Knowledge also known as Uncle Gary, is an outspoken voice in the Madison Hip Hop / nightlife Community, well respected and able to unite people through the power of music.  Gary started out not only throwing his own shows, but working with Tag at True Endeavors.  Connecting the local artist community to the national touring acts, Gary was able to open new doors and direction for the local hip hop community.  Gary is Madison Hip Hop, and if you ever wanted to learn about music made in Madison, lunch with Gary will be unforgettable.

The pandemic slowing and or stopping shows all together , not just here in Madison, but nationwide. Gary has stayed connected with the community virtually in 2021.  Teaming up with local DJ and icon, DJ Scrump Boogz, for online virtual performances.

ATL - Appreciate The Living.  A phrase Gary coined years ago, now embellished in clothing to spread the message.  In our interview Gary really defines what it means to Appreciate The Living.  The legendary one, The Funky Drummer, Clyde Stubblefield is among the many artists Gary had the opportunity to work for/with.  Clyde was best known as being the drummer for legendary funk and soul Icon James Brown.  Also notably on Clyde’s resume being the funky drummer, his drum patterns have been the most used / sampled patterns of all time in Hip Hop.

Gary recalls his most memorable moment with Clyde.  Clyde had a regular night, Funky Mondays, at the Kings Club.  Clyde introduced Gary to DJ Cool Herc, one of the founding fathers of Hip Hop.  Clyde was internationally known, and interest in him brought people to Madison, WI from all over the world.

The conversation curtails with a little overview of the Madison Hip Hop Community that Gary has helped pioneer and mold over the years.   Shout out to Latone Heart, Rob DZ, DLO, Laduma, Keon Andre, DJ Pain 1, Reigny Day Productions, The Crest, Picklecorps Squad, The Intel Agents, The Lost Souls, Lucha Libre, Regime Records, Big Mmike, Cory Webb, Uncle Pauly, Bro DJ, DJ Newsense, DJ Fabulust, Big Tone, Huge Family Ent, DJ Schooly, OX, Bald Head Kingpin, The Last Hope, Choas New Money, Taye Sharkee and Uchi Kinte.

Jeff Patterson, owner of JP Hair Design, opened up shop in 1998 in a studio by himself. When JP opened, he had been trained for 2 years by iconic local barber, Taylor “Smitty” Smith. Smitty was the first licensed Black barber in the city of Madison.

A quiet leader, Smitty never talked about money–he always talked about community, individuals, and loving people. JP has definitely followed Smitty’s lead.  In 2016, when Smitty passed, JP assisted in setting up the Taylor “Smitty” Smith Scholarship, which provides tuition, books, and equipment for an apprentice student in barbering or cosmetology at Madison College.

JP Hair Design now has 10 active barber chairs. In 2016 JP Hair Design added a Men’s Health and Wellness Center inside the shop; the first ever barber shop in the nation to feature an education center onsite.

Dione Laufenberg is the owner of Swurly. Based in Sun Prairie, Swurly products are available in 5 stores across Madison. Swurly’s flagship product is a 100% mulberry silk hairstyle & preservation bonnet, and they offer much more.  Dione saw a need in the community, and wanted to make self-care fun for her children, so she developed her own products.  Swurly products stand out–offering style, quality, and longevity.

Dione’s business started as a blog, www.LauftyLife.com, in which she wrote about what it’s like to be an interracial couple raising biracial children, as well as other complexities of having a multiracial family. Dione spoke of being inspired by Loving Day, a day that celebrates the landmark supreme court case, Loving V. Virginia, from 1967, invalidating state laws prohibiting interacial marriage. Richard and Mildred Loving, an interacial couple married in the late 1950s, were arrested, imprisoned, and banished from the state of Virginia for being married. On June 12, 1967 the Supreme court sided with Richard & Mildred’s case, overturning the laws prohibiting interracial marriage.
