Hi there! My name is Rob and I'm excited to welcome you to the Life After Athletics podcast. I've had a unique journey as an athlete, competing for Team Canada in the Winter Olympics and then transitioning to coaching athletes from all levels and nationalities. However, after years of dedication to my sport, I found myself with lots of debt and no clear direction for my future. That's when I decided to take control of my life and get back on track.
Life is full of challenges and obstacles. At times, we feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and unable to see a way forward. However, by adding 'Yet' to our lives, we can transform our outlook, embrace new opportunities, and find fulfillment. In this episode, we will explore the benefits, and how you can start using "yet" in your life today.
This is the big take away - progress doesn't know any limits. That doesn't mean you will get everything you want in life but that does mean that if you make progress the foundation of what you do and believe, you will be tapping into the unlimited potential that comes with the word "progress".

I spent ages 18-25 trying to make the Olympics. I got as close as you can get without making it, that was devastating at the time, and it took a long time to come to terms with that. And as I reflected on my athletic career for this episode, it is clear to me that my success was directly related to how much I failed. I hated failing at the time, and when it happened time and time again, I'll be honest there were moments that I doubted my abilities because of those failures. But now, from the safety of my house, with time and distance from those experiences I see them differently. There was no chance of my growth, and ultimately my chance at the Olympics, without those failures. I needed them more than I needed my success, because without failing I probably never would have improved to the level I needed.
Now as I move on to my next adventure in life I want to carry this appreciation and understanding of failing with me as I go. And I hope you will do the same after listening to this episode.
In this episode I discuss what I think can be the dangerous side of "wanting". Sometimes we forget that wanting is a double-edged sword.
Here are a few points to consider when it comes to mistakes in life (some I expand on in the episode and others are for you who read the show description :)
