The AMD Ryzen CPU, equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a whopping 104MB cache (32 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 8 MB L2), is the perfect choice for gamers.
It has a base clock of 4 GHz, which may be at least 500 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X, but has a boost clock of 5.0 GHz, ~400 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X. Unlike other processors in the 3D V-Cache series, AMD used just one chiplet to add an additional 3D V-Cache layer. The dual chiplet design of the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D causes an imbalance as they switch between non-V-Cache and V-Cache CCD, depending on the load. However, AMD's algorithm addresses this issue for the bigger part.
As a result, the operating system must make decisions on thread prioritization. However, since the 7800X3D processor only has one die activated, there is no need for software dependency. This eliminates the inconvenience mentioned in our 7950X3D review and results.

For the whole year 2022, AMD, Intel, and Nvidia sold around 37.86 million graphics processors for desktop AIBs, down sharply from approximately 49.15 million units in 2021, according to Jon Peddie Research. In fact, 37.86 million units is an all-time low for discrete graphics desktop graphics boards. To add some context, sales of standalone graphics cards for desktop PCs peaked at 116 million units in 1998, based on JPR data.
With 30.34 million desktop discrete graphics processors sold in 2022, Nvidia maintained rather strong unit shipments and grabbed market share away from AMD.
In fact, the company's desktop GPU unit sales in 2022 exceeded its shipments in pre-pandemic 2019, but 2022 was not a particularly good year from unit shipments point of view.
By contrast, sales of AMD's Radeon add-in-boards dropped to 6.76 million units, their lowest point ever.

The price of SSDs is in rapid decline. Anyone who has been following the market for the last few months should not be surprised. We've long known that a glut of NAND flash memory and lowering manufacturing costs are now being passed along to the consumer, with typical reductions of 15 to 30 percent in just the last 60 days.
Back in October, analysts predicted that, by mid-2023, the price of drives would
drop by 50 percent. At the time, major suppliers such as Kioxia and Micron
announced that they would reduce the production of NAND to keep supplies lower.
However, there's only so much that a memory manufacturer can do to limit output
before they are losing money by maintaining idle production facilities.

Google parent Alphabet lost $100bn in market value on
Wednesday, feeding worries that it is losing ground to rival Microsoft.
Alphabet shares, which slid as much as 9% during regular trading, were flat

Intel on Thursday posted rather grievous financial results as the company's
revenue for the quarter dropped both sequentially and year-over-year, and the
company lost $700 million as its margins collapsed to a multi-year minimum.
While the company remained profitable in 2022, it said its earnings would drop
further this quarter as its customers will aggressively cut their inventory.
Intel expects its sales to decrease even further next quarter.

However, Samsung has released a firmware update that can prevent this from

Data shows that the largest company in the HDD industry is also the worst
performing. Last year, HDD shipments plummeted by as much as 43.7% for Seagate
and by almost as much for WDC, 43.0%. By 2022, however, Toshiba was not immune
to the market downturn, with HDD shipments decreasing by as much as 39.3
percent year over year (YoY).
In addition, industry shipments dropped as much
as 42.5% annually to around 35-36 million products. According to Trendfocus,
the decline in demand from enterprise cloud storage providers is the largest
problem HDD storage manufacturers face right now.

The company was praised by many for its quick solution to the problem and
they even had entire orders booked out as soon as the cables were listed for
retail & pre-orders.
However, as with the standard 12VHPWR cables, even CableMod's cables can
burn up if they aren't connected properly.
It would really have sucked if the card was damaged because the Gigabyte
GeForce RTX 4090 is a super-expensive card that retails around $2000 US.
CableMod was quick to respond to this issue and has asked the customer to reach
out to their tech support and that they will make it right with the affected
user. Furthermore, CableMod says if their cables would've damaged the card,
they'd offer a replacement as they have done so in the past (in very rare
cases).

While this sounds promising, Igorslab
uncovered nine to eleven percent of reported RMA cases between consumers, AMD,
and their partners. Wallossek is one of the 11% working on getting the
replacement.
The underlying message that is being placed by several sources is that the
quality of the products shipping out to consumers is a problem. We all want
products to work as intended when they are sold off the shelf, and we don't
want to jump through several hoops because the product never worked correctly
before shipment.

CES Intel upcoming processors prioritize efficiency by zoning in on
performance-per-watt.
The list of upcoming processors is huge, including models ranging from the
high-end Core i9-13900 to the budget Core i3-13100F. There are six T-series
models coming up too. Here’s everything that Intel is preparing for desktop
users.
The T series are low powered chips designed for compact/micro systems
where cooling is difficult.
Coming up first we have the Core i9-13900 and the Core i9-13900F. The former is
essentially a more power-efficient version of the flagship Core i9-13900K,
while the latter is a cheaper version of the Core i9-13900 that doesn’t include
integrated graphics.

ASUS announced the GeForce RTX 4080 Noctua Edition graphics card, a
continuation of its collaboration with the legendary cooling company, building

The Epic Games Store has quickly
pulled the Death Stranding: Director's Cut as
its Christmas Day free game and replaced it with the standard version. The
crush to acquire today's free Epic Games Store gift
temporarily crashed the storefront's servers, leaving many confused and
frustrated. Along the way, Epic Games added fuel to the fire by taking down Death Stranding: Director's Cut
with no forewarning. The standard edition of Death Stranding
is now in its place and it's entirely unclear what happened.
The Death Stranding: Director's Cut is
a meaningfully improved version of the game, especially for PC. It features
additional graphics options including 4K resolution support, the removal of
product placement like Monster energy drinks, new combat abilities and
equipment, and a mission for the Ruined Factory which players will want to
experience for themselves.

But it looks like now that the world has re-opened and Ethereum mining on GPUs
is dead, demand for desktop discrete GPUs has dropped dramatically. In
fact, shipments of discrete graphics cards hit a ~20-year low in
Q3 2022, according to data from Jon Peddie
Research.
In fact, 6.9 million desktop discrete add-in-boards (AIBs) is the lowest number
of graphics cards shipped since at least Q3 2005 and, keeping in mind sales of
standalone AIBs were strong in the early 2000s as integrated GPUs were not good
enough back then, it is safe to say that in Q3 2022 shipments of desktop
graphics boards hit at least a 20-year low.
Despite slowing demand for discrete graphics cards for desktops (unit sales
were down 31.9% year-over-year), Nvidia not only managed to maintain its lead,
but it actually strengthened its position with an 86% market share, its highest
ever, according to JPR. By contrast, AMD's share dropped to around 10%, its
lowest market share in a couple of decades. As for Intel, it managed to capture
4% of the desktop discrete GPU market in just one quarter, which is not bad at
all.

Asus says its team of extreme overclockers has officially broken the CPU
frequency world record by overclocking an Intel
Core i9-13900K to over 9GHz.
Asus' team disabled all of the Core i9-13900K's E-cores and
disabled hyperthreading, limiting the CPU to only the 8 P-cores and 8 threads.
The team used an unusual combination of liquid nitrogen (LN2) and liquid helium
for cooling
This record is pretty impressive; the 9GHz barrier has been
elusive for decades, even for the best CPUs

Starting out with game news
from last week – Elden Ring won GOTY from the Game Awards and this is a big
deal swanky affair when a kid goes up with the dev team and after they finish
speaking he steps up to the mic and starts
spouting gibberish – the only comprehensible thing is he wants to
nominate or thank bill clinton.
at this point it’s clear he’s not with the devs, the devs are all looking
bemused and the kid is escorted off the stage. Unexpected turn, he was detained
later by the police but not arrested.
Even now a week later it’s unclear if the kid was just trolling, if he’s
unbalanced perhaps. He’s an enigma, well dressed but witha heavy accent – is the accent fake – who knows?
In other gaming news so many games recently have been getting rtx upgrades and
it was the Wticher 3’s turn last week. That’s right you can noew enjoyr Geralt’s
adventures wtih RTX on and DLSS. This is for a 7 year old game! (Witcher 3 came
out in 2015 – great game, I first played it I think 3 years ago pre pandemic,
was old already then but what a game.)
Another old but goody game to get an RTX face lift recently is Portal.
Speaking of RTX and gpus in general, the reviews for AMD”s latest flagship the
7900XTX are out

perf at the best settings, Nvidia is still the way to go

- easy to praise the underdog, beating up on Nvidia gets views – but I bet you
the majority if not all of those guys are still using a 4090 at home
-locally the card is still coming for a price at around 70k or so but no
confirmed price or eta yet

and Nintendo have signed a 10 year agreement to bring Call of Duty to the Mario
consoles. MS is trying to buy Activision Blizzard but anti trust regulators in
the EU and the States are worried about a monopoly (eg Blizzard games being

We start with creator news and a tech youtuber from Egypt, Tech Quotes, who has 389,000 subs has reported that various brands have pressured him to alter his content with NVIDIA and Zotac asking him to censor some of his content, GB asking him to place benchamarks favorable to them and Asus mad that the GB review of a product came out before the review of the Asus product. AMD also apparently refuses to send TechQuotes review samples.

Speaking of gpus,
I’m recording this the night of Nov 3 and in a few hours AMD will be holding a press con to unveil their 7000 series of gpus. Hopes are high that these rdna3 cards can go toe to toe with nvidia’s lovelace especially given that the pricing of the 4000 series makes you wonder if NVIDIA still thinks we’re living at the height of the pandemic with lockdowns and chips shortages.
But the presscon is at 4am Manila time so apologies to Lisa Su but I’m not waking up that early for her. Be sure to tune in next week though as I;m sure we’ll touch a bit on amd’s 7000 series. AMD’s bid to make sure team green doesn’t see all green, money as in dollars raining down on them and stuff.

The other next gen battles have been pretty interesting so far with intel’s 13th gen going up against AMD’s Ryzen 7000. A few weeks have gone by and the conclusion of reviewers seems to be that both are relatively tied although Intel is the value choice now consideirng the higher price AMD is asking for its new cpus plus the fact you’ll need to get a new mobo and ddr5 ram if you go with amd.
Both gens have interesting points, I love how AMD’s cpus tweak themeselves on the fly to run at the cutting edge, 95% of heat, to get the most peformance possible in whatever system they’re in.
Intel’s cpus are actually pretty efficient for once, except for the 13900 which they designed to grab as much power as possible to try to be the fastest as possible. Per Gamer Jesus though, Steve of YT channel Gamers Nexus, if you already have a decent 12th gen cpu no need to upgrade really to the 13th gen.
Early next year we are expecting new models from both Intel and AMD, we actually had an engineering sample of an intel cpu in the shop, sent to us by a brand as we needed it to review a mobo, and that particular cpu is rumored to be coming out January next year.
