You have never been a person who splashes around in the shallows. You swim toward deeper. Buoy is about moving through life with a resilient, unsinkable witness anchored in the power of seeking God’s nature. Faith that rocks. In open water. Spend a few minutes navigating a deeper perspective on how our faith is God's divine persuasion in our deep blue lives--how we witness to each other. 99 episodes. Because Jesus will leave the 99 to find you when you have lost your way (Matthew 18:12). If you want to buoy your life, or your swim brought you to this open water but you’re not sure why, we are on the same journey. Hello human.
Here’s the gist, human. We find solace in repeating decisions that allow us to retreat from what is uncomfortable. We think we are making good decisions. We ask God to direct us. Yet because we cannot see how it is possible that he can navigate the decisions of people out of our control, well, we stand at the window like a child, watching for his next move when barely a minute has passed in the presence of a timeless God. We fall into resignation when our situation, our relationship continues on with no change, no turn for the better. This sounds like some spiraling indie reality, but we actually do this in lives that aren’t half-bad. Tolerable. We let what we don’t like, no longer want to deal with “go dark” inside.

God puts a goal in your life, a purpose, that he will bring to fruition through his nature, power and love for you. All completely within reach because of the promises he has made to you. Why? Because every promise God has made is true. How he wants to use you is 100% attainable through him. God wants us to rely 100% on Him and collect on 100% oof His promises. When we do that, we are returning a sanctified life back to Him. There is nothing in this world to stop us from doing this.

Why this episode re-release? I selected this one because it hits upon the power of our witness to allow and nurture those around us to grow. I am challenged by this every day. Its relevance endures in a very big way.

Helping people grow is about a simple spiritual perspective.
It is about being the external affirmation, the spiritual prompt that Jesus calls us to be. When someone is wanting to, trying to, so close to, changing something (this is called growing) there isn’t anything more important for me to do than to demonstrate the assurance of God throu how I love that person in that moment. According to “the measure of faith” God has given me.
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” –Romans 12:3, KJV.

Why this episode re-release? Because it brings me to an amazing position in my journey with God. Because I understand that what I could do alone,with all that rowing, it’s not God’s plan. We can go solo and accomplish impressive feats, even those God originally laid out for us. God has made us amazing that way. But it won’t be the journey He intended. The first thing I should do every day is make sure that God is in the boat. Before the oar goes in the water.

Has anyone ever rowed across the ocean with just oars? Let me tell you about John...but first, to be transparent, I am still rowing. I am. It takes me awhile to break my rhythm and listen to God. It takes me a while to let Jesus back on my boat. Even when I know Jesus can see me straining with my oars, even when He is walking toward me. I turn away from these divine assurances as if I am a tide beholden to the moon. I bare witness to this because it is possible that you, too, continue to row when you know yours should not be a solo row. That we row together, but separately.

Why this replay? This episode marked going deeper, more personal for me, that I had really settled into my witness 99 journey. The same acknowledgment we need to make to draw closer to God. Our God is a personal God. We need to settle into His nature and let Him set the pace.

On Monday I woke up thinking about rowing, one oar over the other, because I felt the waves of my resolution beginning to overtake me, so I began to row faster. The only boat I could picture was a weathered rowboat from childhood. My witness resolution began in October, so I have been on my water trek for a while. I have found that when I lay my plan over God’s plan, I start rowing faster, as if to overtake Him. To get out ahead of the goodness He brings. What?

Episode 100. Hey Human, Accept a Spiritual Challenge You Can’t Do Without God (16 Spirit-boosts that might help you prepare)
In this episode, I am sharing how the process of producing BUOY fed me with spiritual superfood I would never have known. How God used His nature and His truth to strengthen my faith and deepen my love with only one criteria: that I be obedient to the decision to share my witness for 99 episodes.

Any witness conversation rests in the humility of God working on all of us.
I witness to myself first, before I share it with you, human. I take responsibility, hold myself accountable for my free will, when I turn to God, and when my human nature gets the best of me. The path to humility is what? When we know God more deeply, we know who we are in relation to our Creator. Humility teaches us to pour ourselves into God’s purpose.
Philippians 2:6-11
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

I hope what I have shared about the process of BUOY will help you pray for and accept a spiritual challenge you just can’t do without God.
See what obedience does. It’s all God asks us to do. The rewards are unfathomable except to God. He knows exactly what He wants for you. He knew exactly what I needed. I had underestimated the power of being obedient to God until now.

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:4-7
With Jesus I am found.
When we care more about knowing God than conquering earthly life, we begin to grow in ways that have been divinely created for the Kingdom lifestyle that is ours through Christ Jesus.
Leaving the 99 cues me that I have to leave the mainstream, the crowd, all the people I care about and shepherd, those who love Jesus too, to find one human at a time.
I have to find the one who is lost.
I believe that sharing our witness of how God is moving in our lives, what He enables us to do, how He loves us, how He holds us, encourages us, and persuades us into action throughout this earthly life, is the highest purpose for our lives. To show the love of His Son to others so they might believe.
So they might be found.

Episode 98. I Want to Live All of Life Coram Deo (show me your Glory, Lord)
It is all about the knowing. About a relationship with our Creator that answers to, that fulfills all the shortcomings of our earthly connections with each other. From the beginning of creation, the Genesis of what we know as part of humanity, we seek and seek and seek—from within our soulful depths—to know Him.
Like Moses, who said “show me your glory, Lord.”
Like Paul, who said “I want to know Christ.”
Because of Jesus, who asks, “Don’t you know me?”
I answer “yes, I know you, Jesus. But being human is never enough. I know you are God’s beloved Son. I know you love me. I know more and more what you do for me every day. But I want to know you more deeply. I want to know your every goodness, your full honor.
So, I ask you, my Savior, like Moses asked your Father:
“Cover my face with your hand, so I can see your goodness pass by.”
Exodus 33: 18-19
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Episode 97. From Him, Through Him, and Back To Him (I am a Glory girl)
God gives us what we need to bring His glory back to Him. I have never thought this before. I did not know this until He put it on my heart.
My life purpose is to be obedient to what is from Him, and take the “from” to serve others through Him, so His glory returns to Him.
I am a Glory girl.
I have His Son to make God’s reconciliation possible through my life.
I have the Holy Spirit to connect the from, through and to in my earthly life.
From. Through. To.
What is not as easily understood, but one of the most powerful principles of this is that so much of what we think is needed to live just falls away.
When I position the From-Through-To as a question, that builds on itself, it is like the lightning in a summer storm sky. A revelation, my inner apocalypse. Clarity at the beginning of my every next step that is about to be reconciled by God.
The Question:
Am I obedient to what is from God?
Am I obedient to what is from God to do this thing through His Spirit?
Am I obedient to what is from God to do this thing through His Spirit to bring glory to Him?
Romans 11:36
36 For from him and through him
and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever. Amen.

Episode 96. I Know God by His Revelation (my soul stirs for reconciliation of the heavens and earth)
I spend a good portion of BUOY in the scripture. I believe it’s the most powerful place to hang out together. I suspect I lose humans long before I say “His grace, my gratitude...” because of all the scriptures I note. But I do so as if studying the stars, like the shepherd David. The more I study His Word, the less I want to rewrite it. That’s a hard-fought truth as a writer.
God redeems my life through my witness. I can write about that because the more I study His Word, the more I want to live in His bigger story where the heavens and earth unite.
And He gives me a medium for sharing my spiritual gifts. God gives me, gives all of us one way to boast.
Jeremiah says in Chapter 9: 23-24: Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
God delights when His people truly know Him. Because to know Him is to love Him.
That’s how we witness. We boast in God’s sovereignty, His steadfast love, His bigger story, His everything.
A powerful witness is born out of my own inner apocalypse, so I ask this question:
Is knowing God through Christ the most valuable thing to me? Is it the most valuable thing to you, human?

Episode 95. What I Keep Asking God to Give You (the mystery of Christ)
Ephesians 1:9-10
9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Paul starts with the “mystery of His will” for the purpose of what? “To bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”
Where do I start? Stand beside me for this, human. We start by taking the timeline away, that perspective that thinks earth is now, heaven is later. That perspective contradicts that God is timeless. That perspective contradicts that the heavens have always existed.
We live in both realms now. One day, the heavens will reign in the fullness of Christ.
Why is this so important to how we witness?

Episode 94. The Questions Jesus Gives Us to Ask (because He never met a stranger)
Jesus has never and will never meet a stranger. I am following the man who knows everyone. And it is through His eyes I want to see those who I do not yet know.
The Gospels give us the roadmap for how Jesus did it, and how we are to do it. The beauty of asking the question that speaks to someone’s heart beyond what the person asks for. Or thinks is needed.
The questions Jesus asked are powerful cues for how we connect with those He has put in our path to love. On a first take, it might look something like this.
Jesus said, “Who touched me?” – aka, I say, “How can what I have help you? What do you need from me?”
Jesus said, “Why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” – aka, I say, “I see you are hurting. I see you are searching; I know where He is.”
Jesus told us and tells us His love is one question away from a conversation at the well, in the garden, outside the temple, and all the places we put one foot in front of the other.

Episode 93. Eve’s Apple and God’s Question (I fell with her—separated from my Creator)
Choices shape our spiritual journey.
What happened in the Garden is part of the DNA of what happens in our lives. We are part of The Fall.
In my life today, I accept that when I stand in front of the tree that makes me my own god, I need to do this:
Pray for clarity.
Seek God’s truth.
Seek spiritual consequences that are eternal.
Loop this question throughout my day: “Does this action separate me or bring me closer to God?”
Answer the Lord’s question “Where are you?” with my witness.
Genesis 3:6
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Episode 92. Give God Your Problem Through Praise (a DIY Psalm for bringing your humility to His solution)
What % of your time would you say you hold on to your problems, every day? 10% or 75%, 30% or double that, at 60%?
This scenario is something God frees us from. Seems appropriate to think about during freedom week of 2024. I hadn’t thought about freedom in the context of praise until this BUOY.
When I think of praise I think of David. Psalm 145 gives us a DIY approach to bringing our humility to God’s solution.
In Psalm 145, David uses 15 verbs to praise the nature of our Lord.
In Psalm 145, David claims what God does when we bring our problems to Him.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth. (that takes humility, human)
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
He upholds us when we fall.
He is near when we call.
He watches over when we love.
This is a pretty amazing definition of His presence in my life.
Psalm 145: 21
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever.

Episode 91. I Lost Someone Twice (who I am not done loving in Christ Alone)
...think about the emotional shards in your relationships that leave parts of your life broken, bleeding, splintered by conversations unspoken, dialogues that went downhill, moments and memories on hold, and for some, the abrupt call of mortality to cut it all short.
Think about how you are not done loving.
... it is in the middle of all this that Jesus administers His peace, long before any resolve settles in. Before He brings any enduring connection back to a relationship. A peace that requires only Him.
...maybe this will prompt you, human, to go to the great Comforter to heal, to find His way to connect your fragmented heart to His wholeness. To sustain an enduring connection with someone, we must first connect with the One.
Solus Christus.
Because Jesus is our peacemaker.
John 16:33
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Episode 90. I Rode the A Train to Eternity (a garden conversation at The Cloisters that stirred my soul)
What was spiritually sobering for me in this conversation was hearing a human accept mortality in the only way possible. Personally. A given. With an estimated time. The time at hand. And it is not that realization that was of eternal value to me, it was sharing that moment, that moment when being mortal AND being eternal held us together.

Episode 89. Solus Christus. In Christ Alone (I am not alone).
What “in Christ alone” means to me and how I fight it with the futility of my human nature. I know that sounds a little too weighty.
Maybe this. I fight it with trying to help Christ save me. As if He did not.
I think of “casting shade” as not living as if Christ has completed the story. Bringing things like fear, anxiety, worry in to help me fight a battle that has already been won. Over-exercising verbs like striving, pursuing, chasing goals, ambitions, and earthly measures of spiritual success. Yes, letting the shadow of earthly pursuits darken the spiritual light of my witness to love one another, one by one. By allowing earthly gain to re-define His victory.
Casting shade by looking for grace, faith, redemption, salvation from anyone or anything but Jesus. We look to others for confirmation of our worth.
I cast shade when I turn away His love, when I turn away from opportunities to love others, when I throw darkness on the light He is shining within me.
I cast shade when I do not accept His presence, His power, His sovereignty in my life.
Hebrews 7:25
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Episode 88 When You Feel Like Jumpin’ Ship (honor the struggle of God’s work in You)
Life is full of wanting to abandon the struggle. A struggle that is tethered to, grounded in, conversations, memories, love, respect, honor, collaboration, laughter, crying, caring, sharing the intimacy of human nature.
I am talking about the human cargo in every relationship.
So you are on your boat, you are looking out at the horizon, thinking you can swim back. Toward shore. You are thinking about abandoning what you once invested in as good.
Don’t, human.
Honor God’s work in you. The connections, the relationships on rough seas, the circumstances that test your character.
Honor the struggle of it.
Honor God’s righteousness within it.
Sail the strongest winds in your life by His sovereignty. He will navigate.
Do not abandon that which He started. Live the story He has put you in.
This is how we witness.

21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Episode 87. Obedience is the Path to God’s Presence and Provision (enough said)
I think obedience is how we know God more deeply, how we connect to His presence. When He asks us to obey His commands, He is literally asking us to obey His nature. He created us in His image. This is a promise: that we take on His attributes when we do the things He does.
When we are obedient, we are so because we trust God. When we obey, we deepen that trust.
My BUOY today comes from deeper water. Seeking deeper trust.
I will obey...
Not because I want to be good. Although I do.
Not because He tells me to. Although sometimes, this is the simplest way to get me off the spiritual couch.
Not because bad things will happen to me, if I don’t.
I will obey because I want to know Him better.
I want His presence to flood my life, my heart, my soul. His distant swell that comes from hundreds of miles out at sea, where only He stands tall in bottomless waters.

God’s Providence through His Presence (His nearness is the provision for my future)
The corners I put God in, are because I only see in part. I corner God when I can’t understand His presence, His reach, His provision for my life. I put my timeless, eternal God in timeout.
I won’t belabor this.
When He asks me “Am I only a God nearby?” Even though He references hiding, which I know people may subconsciously think is possible, it isn’t hiding for me, it is that I don’t grasp the scale and scope of His sovereignty in shaping my future.
That His nearness is the provision for my future.
Jeremiah 23:23-24
“Am I only a God nearby,” declares the LORD, “and not a God far away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD.

Episode 85
... do something from what you see.
Do something for someone who needs more than they asked for... one time I helped get a spicy pepper product for a lady in a wheelchair at Costco, and when she said “this is the only pepper to use when frying chicken” I spent the next 15 minutes getting her recipe. Just time being with her, hearing about her chicken-frying technique that made everything right in the world, just time hearing about the children she raised, the good times, clearly now farther apart in her older age.
I could smell that chicken. I could hear it crackle in the pan. She uplifted me. My light glowed from it.
When we walk with an open heart, we let the light in from all directions.
Jesus used a very clear metaphor for what we are when we follow Him, live in Him.
We are a town built on a hill. We are full of light, and always positioned through His intent to be a beacon to others. If we live in darkness, it doesn’t matter how high we sit on that hill. His sovereignty, His power, His glory goes unnoticed.
When we shine His light, we are saying “I am open to helping you. I am open to casting my light on your space, your life, to help you see your next step. To help you solve an immediate problem. To soothe a little anxiety with my light.” Because Jesus is kind.
Episode 84. Who is Willing to Consecrate Themselves to the Lord Today? (calling all broken spirits and cedar logs)
Psalm 51:17
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.
I am layer upon layer crazy about this... that the thing we can give to God through the agency of our free will, are the things that come from a broken spirit. A broken spirit requires everything we are. That we sacrifice more cedar logs than could be counted.
To be clear, to seek clarity, to better comprehend, here is a start to what I choose out of my broken spirit.
Consider who we choose, and over what.
Join me.
I choose His provision over my prowess.
I choose His sovereignty over my self-interest.
I choose His love over my lament.
I choose His grace over my good deeds.
I choose His call over my captions.
I choose His glory over my gain.
I choose His will over my wanting.
I choose His call over my creativity.
I choose His story over my strategy.
I choose His delight over my determination.
I choose His strength over my stamina.
I choose His bounty over my best effort.
I choose His Son over my sovereignty.
When we have a broken spirit, what we leave behind is what our sin nature tries to hold us captive to.
... all the earthly pursuits we try to power through on our own merit.
It is such a strain on our God-given soul.

Episode 83. I Sing to the Lord a New Song (wake up to His faithfulness)
Turning our face toward God, toward Jesus, focusing on His faithfulness, is the best possible training for singing to Him. We are made in His image, so our faith comes from His faithfulness. When we look to Him for the lyrics to a new song every morning, and throughout our day, it comes when we acknowledge His faithfulness to each of us, and His presence and power in our lives.
Psalm 96
1 Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
It comes from getting good at naming new songs, new revelations of His renewing grace each day.

Episode 82. I Pray Beyond the Healing (my suffering is parenthetical to His Glory)
So, what is so important to me, and for you, human, is to praise how God stabilizes us, so we can do His will for His glory. I pray every morning—because this is one of my diehard fears, that something like vertigo will stand in the way of His purpose for my life—so I pray that God will manage my health. That every health challenge I encounter—my vertigo, my asthma, and the inevitable that comes with physical aging—will not stand in the way of His purpose for my life.
That my suffering is parenthetical to how my life reflects His glory.
Steady me Lord, wherever I go. Because I go with You. Because I go for you.
With this I encourage you to pray beyond being healed. Pray beyond your suffering. Because you are praying to the One who reigns, the One who is sovereign, whose right hand will take you where He wants you to go. We are Christlike in our suffering, so we can be who we need to be to bring His glory to the lives of others.
Isaiah 41:10
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

BUOY Episode 81. God Gives Me a Willing Spirit (when I bring my broken spirit to Him)
Psalm 51: 11-12
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
When I drift, I lose my joy. It’s the first thing to go... I remember having had it, I know it is still there, but I can’t fully access it because it comes from living in His presence. It comes from my Heavenly Father, my Savior, and the Holy Spirit.
I can’t long for it, or even want the joy of loving God without a willing spirit that comes from Him. And it is that spirit that keeps me tethered to His wind, His water.

There is a timely moment in your life, human, when you decide to take that one-way all-in ride to your abbey, your purpose according to how your Creator intended you to live. And a thousand moments in every day that we confirm that choice, over and over again.

Episode 79.
What we want is often not what Jesus was sent to do. Or for the purpose for which He was sent. Jesus asks me to get clear, be honest about what is in my heart, be honest about why I am approaching Him.
Jesus is not the Savior of our selfish purposes. He is the Savior of our selfish nature.
Jesus is not the Lord of our self-proclaimed life. He is the Lord of our eternal life with Him.
So, I have been thinking about how I answer this question from Jesus:
What do I want Him to do? Because whatever it is, it is built on the premise of what He has already done.
He has already died for my sin.
Mark 10:49-51
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So, they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

It was just before the Passover Festival; Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world.
He had just washed their feet, predicted his death for a final time, and predicted Peter’s denial three times before the rooster crows. (John 13)
This was his last night with his disciples before his death.
To comfort, to assure, to inspire, to teach, to enlighten... to prepare them.
Jesus had just told his disciples that the time is coming that He will no longer speak figuratively. And the disciples were beginning to understand what Jesus came to do.
Then He turned to His Heavenly Father.
John 17:25
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
That night Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Revelation 22:12-13
12 Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Jesus was with God in the beginning, and He proclaims that He is the one who conquers the ending to God’s story. His Heavenly Father’s story.
The Omega is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. It is the prologue to when He returns to claim His sovereignty over the world. With all our earthly living inbetween.
This also means that... when you feel lost, or indecisive about choices you have, or you feel defeated by your own mind games, or life’s missteps, unpredictable challenges, Jesus has already lived, died, and has been resurrected for the heavenly ending you will share with Him.
If you believe and accept Him as your Savior and Lord. If you have not done this, now, this moment, is your time. He is your Alpha and Omega.
When I finished reading... a heart flooded with overwhelming reverence for a God that cannot be contained by anything man knows, feels, or believes.
I thanked God for His story. His sovereignty.
I thanked God that I am in His story.
As a believer. A follower of the Alpha and Omega.
His beloved Son is Risen.
He is my Omega.

The new covenant we have with God through His Son, lives in every moment.
I love that God’s nature is timeless. That His presence doesn’t require a special day or a particular moment to do what He plans to do. He is always, constantly, going before me. Clearing a Psalm 139 path for my earthly ascent to a heavenly home.
Jesus always “goes before and beyond” what we see, hear, or could imagine. Because we are not omnipresent, nor omniscient.
Ephesians 3:20
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
“His power that is at work within us” is the power of how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies, the law of Moses, and the fall of humanity through the serpent, the woman, the apple, the man, the fall.

Episode 75 I Have a Covenant with My Creator (sealed with the blood of the One)
Hebrews 8:10
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
What a powerful way to stay in His presence. To walk in His covenant means to be willing and obedient to His words. Abraham was ready to give the most precious gift in his life; he took God’s word and believed in his heart in order to receive the blessings.
And God gave His most precious gift, His beloved Son. So, I seek to give everything that is precious to me back to God, for Him to protect, nurture, grow, and prosper. Sealed in the blood of His Son.
Join my quick prayer, now. Make it your own, human as we prepare for Easter.
Lord God of Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, help me walk in your covenant, respond to your promises with love, obedience, and an enduring loyalty of my free will to your sovereign nature. In the name of Jesus, amen.
God did the choosing. This is what the Bible is about. God chose His people, He chose each of us, human.

Episode 74 I am Worthy of His Calling (because He is worthy)
Give me a minute more human, to witness why this is mind-blowing to me...
I can intellectually check all the boxes Maclaren lays out. That I am unworthy, that I can commit to not striving to be worthy as if by my own power, that I can accept my life on God’s terms – that it is all a gift from Him, and that I can desire it, I can give my free will to Him every day.
But doing it requires His Spirit in my every thought and action, if I live by the premise that I am unworthy.
The world is such a distraction and people are rejecting the Gospel all along my path. Rejection is translated in verse 46 as to thrust away from one’s self, to drive away from one’s self. So Paul is defining rejection as forceful intent to move away from God and toward one’s self.
So, as I am bringing the Gospel closer to someone, that person may be using all intent to drive it away.
This gives me a deeper resolve and urgency in my response to those who have judged themselves unworthy of eternal life by their own rejection of the Gospel.
That I am matching my intensity for accepting and sharing the Gospel to the intensity with which so many are pushing it away. The Gospel is my witness. That I be bold like Paul.
2 Thessalonians 1:11
“May God make you worthy of his calling and fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power”.
Episode 73.
The love God gives us is a divine, selfless love. My spiritual commission is to be clear and convicted, to remain clear and convicted about the Jesus who has resurrected my heart, so I can wrap my heart around the lives of others in my path. That I embody the death of Jesus, and His resurrection through my life and actions.
That’s the power of sharing the “unseen.” And so, it is no surprise that God grows our character through suffering. We abide in our Savior when we do. Nestled in His resurrected love.
So, I have five affirmations and two steps today. To guide my reactions to those who are not so easy to love through my perspective on the world. And in some way, define my “unseen” for those humans on my path.
I am moved to spiritual fierceness, human, that my witness affirms the love that Jesus has for me. And you. And for everyone else. That I be fierce in bringing the power of the “unseen” within my earthly life to those who do not know that there is more...
1 Thessalonians 3:12
12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.

Paul’s dissenters thought he suffered too much to be Spirit-filled, that he was weak and tossed about in his person (his trials, imprisonments, etc.), that his life did not represent the authority of God.
But what this letter does is open the unseen of Paul’s life. I landed on this threshold of suffering because I am a jar made of clay. And God has molding to do.
God molded, and molded, and molded Paul for his entire ministry. Paul’s suffering was his witness.
I want God to mold, and mold and mold me for my entire ministry. I am told I can count on suffering, as Paul says—being hard pressed on every side, perplexed, persecuted, struck down.
I have landed on the threshold of suffering. Paul’s discourse will help me raise my spiritual game.
2 Corinthians 4:7-12
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

When we confess, it is like saying “here” at roll call. It is our time to tell God when we did not choose Him, when we did not choose His Will, His way, when we tried to get out ahead of Him, when we tried to rule alongside Him, when we treated His people poorly, or when we gave our minds and hearts to something, anything, other than Him.
When we name our sins of separation, God shows us mercy.

We have longings that we choose to pursue like the prodigal son, through earthly means. What I call the human gain of things.
We are all distracted, selfish, consumed, confused, restless, lost, prideful, arrogant, idol worshipers, and what else? Whatever keeps us spiritually compromised, depleted, paralyzed. Until we are found.
What brings us to repentance? Knowing that we are separated from God. That we have sinned. When we are completely depleted by selfish intent, the human gain of things. When we get to the point in the road when we cannot take one more step in a not-God, maybe-God, kinda-God, partially God life.
Our Heavenly Father is waiting for us to return. He is the One waiting. Only-God.

I just finished reading the Old Testament. 872 pages. With one question: What happened, God?
For those who are jumpin’ on BUOY for the first time, I made this commitment to immerse myself in God’s journey with His people. Not as a student, not as part of a Bible study with a group, not as a daily devotional over the course of a year. Not as a follow-along podcast experience.
I did it because I was feeling like my timeline was getting all mixed up, and that I was forgetting all the people, and I had carried some major questions around long enough... finally time for answers. Like when you clean out your closest, or your garage, or attic—drag everything out completely—just to see what’s there.
It’s an all-in proposition. To read the Bible as God’s story.
To kneel in His presence, and ask: What happened, God?

Deuteronomy 11:7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.
In Verse 7 Moses calls out each Israelite on this journey as a first-person witness. I see this as saying... take responsibility for what you know about the power of God in your life.
You are a first-person witness. When we make that divine decision to love, obey and hold fast to God, it is the commitment to cross the Jordan and live in a spiritual world He takes care of, with all answered prayers and fortitude that comes from drawing our strength from His promises.
But you don’t see the power of His story, if you don’t live within it. When your beliefs and actions come together as a faith that could only be His divine persuasion of your heart.

As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He *said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him
Returning to the God bookmark is not that easy, my human. It’s an all-in proposition.
It does so many things... for one, it undoes your life in a way that makes you question the past. That’s another episode, but the beauty of it is that you begin to see what a divine decision to follow God actually is. My commitment to share my witness BUOY every week is no joke, my human. God is changing me.

For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son... (John 3:16)
Begotten as a little boy who weighed 7 lbs. by the estimate of scholars.
Begotten as the Son who God knew in heaven before He was born on earth.
Begotten as a boy who God placed in Mary’s womb, to grow up and save the world at age 33.
Jesus left His heavenly home with all its eternal comforts to be with us. If we accept Him as God’s only begotten Son, divinely conceived, and we repent, turn away from our sin nature, we can say this:
That, “for God so loved the world, now I so love the world.”
We are free to love unconditionally, in the fullness of His character.
In this season, seek beyond picking one fruit out of your basket to give others, give to each the full measure of the love He has shown you. Give the fruit in its fullness. Be present in the fullness of His divine gift to you. Be grateful for how His character fills in the deficiencies you may feel in a relationship.
He will put the “good and perfect gift” in your heart to give the people on your Christmas path.

So, I am seeking to understand the power of unity, the power of completeness—how all the attributes of God’s character represent His love.
That loving Him is about the power of His Nature.
I seek in this giving season to love others in the fullness of Christ’s character, to “give” the fruit of His Spirit to others as we celebrate the birth of Jesus... how I bring the fruit of the Spirit in my life to their lives in the fullness of His image.
The fruit is His character. John 15:4-5
This fruit can only be produced by the Spirit when we abide in Christ.
Abiding in Jesus is a Spirit thing.

This I say for your own benefit; not to put a restraint upon you, but to promote what is appropriate and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord.
In this context “devotion” means: to sit near, to attend assiduously, to be in attendance upon, not to quit one's side, sitting constantly by, devoted
My dog does this very well. All the time. Literally. I just had to say this for dog lovers who jump on the BUOY.
And for us, if I were to say to you that I will not quit being by your side, I will be sitting constantly by... how would your heart respond? That is the power of bringing devotion to my witness... that I will continually live alongside you, human, that I will continue to ask of those I do not know well—how they are, how can I help, do they know that Jesus died for them, that His devotion to their Salvation is divine?
I will continue to ask. I will remain devoted. I will sit near, I will not quit your side, I will sit constantly by. I will devote my witness to sharing the gospel of Jesus in my life with you.
I am thinking about mashed potatoes. And Martha’s sister, Mary.
Luke 10: 41-42 English Standard Version
41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Jesus refers to Mary as having chosen the “good portion”... and that this is the portion that does not fall under the rule of others, under the pretense of what others think, but rather a portion that is set apart and preserved in its divine state through seeking to understand, to believe, to accept that Jesus is enough.
That Jesus is the only one in the room. In your room. In your world of choices, He is always the choice.
That one-on-one time with Jesus is what fills you up. While serving others is the obedient act that follows, it always starts with the portion God has given us through His Son.
This is why Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. She chose her portion. And Jesus affirmed that her time, our time, will not be taken from us.
That is why when I sit at the feet of Jesus, I don’t need a second helping. The first helping I receive will always make that moment full, make my heart full.

My own conscience is fallible, but God is incapable of falling.
The devil fell from heaven.
Humanity fell from a position of purity.
I fall short of the “fullness of my faith”
God’s omniscience provides divine footing for my soul. It serves as solid ground for my continued assurance that the God that holds my salvation—our salvation—continually redeems our mind, our intent, our human migration toward self-rule.
God’s omniscience is sovereign over our conscience. My conscience is part of the Fall. It houses my sinful choices without a plan for what to do with them. The Holy Spirit is God’s divinity that spiritually matures my conscience and my life decisions. The Holy Spirit convicts the moral fabric of my being for His glory. God has a plan for every sinful choice I make. Repentance. Redemption. Return to loving others.
1 John 3:19-20
This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Sometimes I like to just rest in the simplicity of a letter from one early Christian to another. Yes, the amazing apostle Paul and the steadfast Titus, but still... a correspondence in those early days when Jesus had not been long resurrected and the disciples + the 70 + so many others began to build the early body of believers. This letter is part of God’s Word, God’s breath, God’s power in our lives in the same way as He was in AD 63.

I woke up thinking, I need to pay attention to comfort. I need to pay attention to the Great Comforter in my life. God. Jesus. And the Holy Spirit. And I need to name it because I do not seek comfort naturally. I seek independence.
The Greek word for Comforter means "one called alongside." The reason for one being called alongside is to give aid and help.
Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthians:
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
It is true that when we have experiences grounded in suffering, we can be more empathetic with others who also have those experiences.
But my focus today is not on shared experiences, but on the sanctification process of being comforted by God. That it is in that moment we learn about, experience, take on His nature for attending to people, that we increase our commitment to providing comfort.

Matthew 5:3
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus speaks, no, fills the impoverished spirit created within each of us when we face this,
the human condition:
We must confess our sinfulness.
We cannot buy worthiness with good works.
We have nothing of spiritual worth to offer God.
Yet, we have a spiritual debt to pay.
And, we have no spiritual credit with which to buy our heavenly home.
We need a Savior.
Because Jesus has an eternal line of credit with His Heavenly Father.
And a heavenly home.
Although salvation happens once for all eternity when we accept Jesus, as humans, we seek this eternal state of mind daily: Because we are in a relationship with Jesus, and the worth of our life is in His nature, not ours. When I am “poor in spirit,” Jesus turns my gaze, He puts my face in His hands and turns it toward His Heavenly Father. He does that for me.

Revering God is about turning away from the fears created by man and seeking God’s sovereignty for our lives. We have the power through our free will to turn away from self-made fears. It is ours to do. Because God has not given us the spirit of fear.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
If fear of man, of this world and all its challenges is a recurring state of mind, one that has settled in, I remind you, me, us, that we have been given the command throughout His Word, the simple next step from God.
Two words. And then, two words.
Fear not. Fear God. Simply, to echo the words of his disciples in a fearful circumstance: “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” When our fearful human nature tries to overtake us, we revere the One who is sovereign and in control. All powerful, all-knowing, all-present.
Mark 4: 39-41
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

The waiting, and watching for Jesus, is not a distraction, it is a divine anticipation that prioritizes our earthly service to others. The emotional, mental and physical battles we face every day, when our human nature is never quite redeemed, never quite claims the victory in our daily earth-grind. All that will be left behind.
Think earth-grind conquered. This is why I love what the apostle Paul tells us:

7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Jesus speaks of His heavenly home, His Father’s mansion of many rooms.
John 14:2-4
2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
I know that learning about heaven, embracing the joy of being in heaven will deepen my longing for His return. And that’s a good thing. I also know that the only way to cast out negative mindsets is to replace them with something good, something eternal, something God. So today, I begin a two-episode witness about heaven’s place in my heart right now.

Anxiety, fear, worry, depression, weakness, sadness, grief, despair. These are real human battles. But we have God’s voice in our ear when we return to His Word, and let it connect us to our joy.
Here’s my testimony: I would lay my earthly life down for this spiritual truth—there is no anxiety, no defeated mindset in the presence of Jesus. Because it is by grace that Jesus shares His joy with us.

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Helping people grow is about a simple spiritual perspective.
It is about being the external affirmation, the spiritual prompt that Jesus calls us to be. When someone is wanting to, trying to, so close to, changing something (this is called growing) there isn’t anything more important for me to do than to demonstrate the assurance of God throu how I love that person in that moment. According to “the measure of faith” God has given me.
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” –Romans 12:3, KJV.

So much of life happens on aisle seven. When we take on the God things in our lives, Jesus gives us all the conveniences of spiritual growth to serve others. Like who? I want my witness to dwell in the power of chapter six, to appeal to God to strengthen me—and chapter 13, to appeal to God to preserve my efforts in His name for His glory. When I have answered to my calling and diversions try to slow my momentum, or I find myself starting again... like Nehemiah.
Building that wall, rallying God’s chosen, putting them on a path back toward God, was complicated. He did not rely on anyone for his power, except God.
It is hard to do that, human. Listen to episode 48 for encouragement to build “your wall” straight from Nehemiah’s story.

It is important to me to internalize, to hardwire the power of two truths into my faith walk:
One: the first and last of God’s nature, that he was the word, he had the first word in creating the creation, that Jesus was with Him ,and then Jesus became flesh. Jesus has the last word through his sacrifice, ascension, and return.
Two: The power of giving God the “first and final” say: the first word in a conversation, the decision-making process, in our day, tempering our perspective with His spirit. Then we circle back and give Jesus the last word.
John 1:14
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I love defining it by walking in the spiritual footsteps of Mary Magdalene:

Doing whatever it takes to be at life’s banquet with Jesus.

Bringing my gratitude to His feet. Kneeling at the altar of when He chose me.

Caring for His love for me, with the spiritual gifts He gave me, as if I am washing His feet every day.

That it will shock others who do not understand my relationship with my Savior.

I am returning to what faith is today, frankly because I encounter a lot of people who have not done the work to understand what faith actually means. And. To grow in my understanding about why God, why His Son Jesus and the apostles tell us to return to God’s word, to pray without ceasing, to love unconditionally. Because He is convicting me through His Word, through my prayer to Him, through loving unconditionally.
That doing this, draws me close enough to hear His voice: God’s persuasion happens through the Holy Spirit... and my free will cannot be playing any other song, to hear it.

In video footage of Good Energy making its way across the Pacific I noticed a banner on it that says, “Live Beyond Land.” To me, that is when we realize our spiritual swim is longer than we had charted, and the water is deeper. We commit to an attentive heart that goes where God goes. The challenges are constantly changing. It is a place beyond sure footing. And we rarely come to shore.
Like the albatross.
Psalm 145:18
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Heavenly Father,
Fill my spirit-sail.
Steer my will and turn it toward your sea.
Take me to, take me through, uncharted waters.
Bring my life eye to eye with the albatross, so we can soar together.
Let my nights be illuminated by your faith. Start my days with your Son rising. Both of them.
Bless me with a life beyond land. Sustain my heart in the squalls of being “out there” with you, Lord.
Anchor me, in open water.

For days I was full of panic, heartache—completely overwhelmed by sadness and the finality of leaving her. I felt like a failure, like I could have made the situation work out. I wanted to go get her. I wanted an update on her every hour. It was unbearable. Finally, I texted and received a couple of photos showing her on her new porch. In Pittsburg. So far away. I clicked on those photos a thousand times.
It was in this moment, that the words of Jesus... about sparrows popped into my mind. Not to comfort me. But to reveal to me how our Heavenly Father loves all that He has created. He loves, justly. That’s the comparison.
It’s like I have a little Chianti sparrow fluttering around in my heart.
Luke 12:6-7
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

I started out independent from day one.
Confident in how to explore my backyard, my town, how to climb a tree, how to engage in a game, a new class, an assignment, a job, a move across the country, a new culture, a relationship...
I was good at claiming independence until the day I knew it was not enough. I was not enough to do what God had put in my heart to do. So, I gave everything God first gave me—back to Him—because of what His Son did for me.
Because through Jesus, I can approach God with freedom and confidence. What I am really talking about is the power of a God who is sovereign.
Gal 5:13
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

I discovered a familiar scripture again. This happens to me a lot. It keeps my witness growing closer to the God who holds me.
Ephesians 3:12
12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Approaching God is the only point. It is the only journey. It is the reason for freedom. Jesus gave His life for me to be free from sin so I could be free to have access to His Father, the freedom to charge in on our God anytime, like we might have done as a child running into the house with news, a need, a shout of joy...
Right now, I am thinking a lot about freedom in Christ as being free to approach God with everything, because Jesus was loyal to His Father, and saved the life of every every fellow prisoner from sin.

I try not to compare scriptures through superlatives, so I will just say this passage speaks straight into the deepest part of my heart. It defines with such a divine fullness how I feel about Jesus.
Hebrews 1: 3-4
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
Jesus is Lord. Much superior to the angels.

It seems impossible to go deep into humility, that even to seek a deeper understanding is fueled by another flavor of pride, but I have to do this. Because a humble spirit, is to me, the “first light” of every morning.
So in episode 36 we seek the face of humility.
Philippians 2:6-8
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

Get inspired to seek our Creator.
God says to His people in,
Isaiah 51:15
For I am the Lord your God, who stirs up the sea and its waves roar (the Lord of hosts is His name).
David says in,
Psalm 89:9
You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You still them.
It's true. God rules that which He created. But I am not talking about storms. Because that same divine power that can still the swell creates a limitless divine energy: The more God is present in our lives, the bigger our spiritual swell is.
And like the open sea swells, God is always coming toward me. He is always coming for me.
My text exchange with my son continues to prompt my heart as I interact with people in my life. We were talking about nature, the creation, the lessons nature teaches us, and what striving in the elements teaches us, and our conversation united into a lyric about life, one that we were mentally singing together, and didn’t even know it. That’s the power of knowing. That’s a song from the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:11
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8: 14-17
Verse 16 says that with the Holy Spirit we “cry” for our Abba, Father. That the Spirit testifies with us, stands by us as we approach God, gives evidence in our lives, shows that we believe and claim the blood of Jesus. That we are sanctified to approach our Creator.
So, what am I saying? Well, it’s a paradox.
The Holy Spirit is ready to testify for you. You should cry out more often.
Abba, Father doesn’t want to ground you. He has grown-up things for you to do.
He wants us to fall deeply in love with coming to Him with hard things.

“That’s one thing a mother does, a grandmother does: not let go. We may think what happens to our children, even something we have done, or failed to do, may sink them, but it is God’s Will, God’s way to help us “not let go” of the unconditional love we have between us.
This love is not exclusive to mothers, this big, watery love hold on others, happens to all of us... but how we do it comes in so many God-ways. Big God-ways. It takes all the mothers in the world—past, present, future—to create an eternal mosaic of God’s commitment to “never let go of us.”
That God gives us people in our lives who take on that pool stance with outstretched arms to be there when we jump unannounced. People who do not let go. Unconditional love.”

Here’s a word that gets a secular rap in today’s culture. We are talking about the word, blessed. And how to get beyond a hashtag mentality. To recognize God’s blessings and why He does it. Some consider it Christian-speak, a “rose-colored glasses” way of looking at things.
That it’s mush. Soppy “blessed life” stuff, soaking up the trickling soup rivers at the bottom of life’s bowl. But it is part of conversations—beginning, middle, end.
Have a blessed day.

That it is a nice thing to say to someone. That you wish them well, that you wish them good things in their lives. That you hope their day brings good news, and favor from some higher power. A hashtag for humility, showing our “cultured” gratitude for what we have.
To some, it is a cue that you are a Christian, that God has a role in your life. To others, it is a trigger that you are a Christian, that God has a role in your life.
So now I am in pursuit of what this all means, so I accept God’s blessings and give blessings in the way He has created them, from His nature. No mush. Solid spiritual food. That when I wish someone good things in their life, blessings in their life, the true meaning resonates through how I build a relationship with them.

There are endless voices to hear in this world, with amazing spiritual challenges, Biblical lessons, worthy through God’s infinite wisdom and grace, but at the end of our spiritual day, we are left to discern. I ask you again, are you tracking on the WHY of this, of wanting more than anything to live our lives as God intended?

Jesus is never more than a stone’s throw from you. It’s the distance between your free will and God’s Will. We are always a stone’s throw from a resurrected heart. And a resurrected heart has the spiritual capacity to live in the deepest state of gratitude for what Jesus did. All of a sudden God’s grace is not a one-time gift of unmerited favor marked only by the day I gave my life to Jesus. While God sanctified me in full at that time, it is through my spiritual growth I come into that fullness. Jesus adorns my life with a certain spiritual grace, a fluidity of divine movement through what I say and do.
I find that assuring, inspiring, and enduring. I find the need to pay attention to His grace in my life. The form it takes, and the transitions it makes to a deeper understanding and acceptance of His love.

If you treasure God’s perspective and seek insight… you will get THE SHOT. Every day is full with His presence. A spiritual life is knowing with whom to stand. All the comfort we seek from God for our worry, anxiety, pain, heartache, you name it, is in His nature. Seeking insight is not some high-brow gesture, spiritual tangent, or whim that doesn’t address the immediate pressures of life. It is the way we learn to take the God shots that give our spiritual character the depth and breadth of His love.

I’ll be writing about 600-mile WHYs for a long time. How do I know this? Because I am human. Because I was so stubborn about not wanting that drive to ever have happened. I fought those 600 miles throughout the week. I mulled over the turnaround moment ad nauseum. I traveled an additional 2,000 mental miles over it. Although I had learned big God-stuff, I was in denial about owning the choice to backtrack 600 miles. Not denial because I thought waiting in the parking lot would have taken less time, but denial that the price paid to learn my God-stuff was too high. Not necessary. Wouldn’t I have learned it without all those miles?

Recently I landed in an eddy of spiritual exhaustion. At first I didn’t know what it was. All I could think about was letting the current win. Being lulled into staying in one place. A mindset that was mesmerized by the sky above me, with no forward direction. There are plenty of articles about spiritual exhaustion, and Biblical references to being weary, tired, heavy-laden. But leaning on God, finding a place of rest, being still and knowing he is God, isn’t what I was feeling. And meditating, taking a vacation, changing up a daily routine aren’t quite the solutions I was looking for, though helpful in other scenarios. It was more like spiritual exhaustion from a spiritual deficiency.

God puts a goal in your life, a purpose, that he will bring to fruition through his nature, power and love for you. All completely within reach because of the promises he has made to you. Why? Because every promise God has made is true. How he wants to use you is 100% attainable through him. God wants us to rely 100% on Him and collect on 100% oof His promises. When we do that, we are returning a sanctified life back to Him. There is nothing in this world to stop us from doing this. Romans 11:36

Has anyone ever rowed across the ocean with just oars? Let me tell you about John...but first, to be transparent, I am still rowing. I am. It takes me awhile to break my rhythm and listen to God. It takes me a while to let Jesus back on my boat. Even when I know Jesus can see me straining with my oars, even when He is walking toward me. I turn away from these divine assurances as if I am a tide beholden to the moon. I bare witness to this because it is possible that you, too, continue to row when you know yours should not be a solo row. That we row together, but separately.

On Monday I woke up thinking about rowing, one oar over the other, because I felt the waves of my resolution beginning to overtake me, so I began to row faster. The only boat I could picture was a weathered rowboat from childhood. My witness resolution began in October, so I have been on my water trek for a while. I have found that when I lay my plan over God’s plan, I start rowing faster, as if to overtake Him. To get out ahead of the goodness He brings. What?
My spiritual resolution: I am a witness of God's divine persuasion in my life. BUOY is not a one-take testimony, a dramatic life story with a beginning, middle and an end; but rather, a sharing of my relationship with God as it evolves. And continuing to leave the 99 (the fold) and go out and find “the one.” Because bearing witness to others may begin with sharing how you came to hear the knock and open the door to bringing Jesus into your heart, but that can be so much—so emotionally, so intimately BIG—that you never find the moment in the conversation, or the time. Yet, God tugs at our hearts and minds in ways we should share, and give those who know nothing about Him, or those who need encouragement, or those who think they know everything about Him and have turned away, an opportunity to join the journey, for however long. How can I help you make your spiritual resolution one that has you all-in? That has heft. It is more important that you land on the right resolution, whether you know it by Sunday, January 1, or you take January to discover it, pray over it, land on it.
Jesus is familiar at 33 years old—what he was doing, where he was, what he stood for, what his purpose was—but more elusive to think about as a baby, the baby Jesus. This baby was a spiritual boomerang from heaven. A heavenly crusader who would crawl, walk, run through the darkest thicket of earth’s forest, earth’s wilderness, and then walk again along many dusty roads to find his way to his eternal destiny at the Mount of Olives. And ascend into the cloud-gates of heaven. But babies aren’t born a-talkin’. Babies are born into a world of growing. He took our path long before we put our footprint on it. His days were divinely numbered.
Jesus lived a modest earthly life with precious spiritual comforts: joyous communal meals with his disciples; lively, piercing conversations with followers, questioners, debaters, and unbelievers; walking with others to show the way. Through this earthly journey, He made life precious. And eternal. Every footstep reflected what he treasured and how he makes life precious for whoever believes in Him. He treasured people all along His path and invites every person to join His walk. How much clearer do we need it to be?
If you missed the first post in this series, Beautiful Earthly Things, we are considering how to leverage our human affinity for treasuring earthly things to seeking heavenly treasures in this life. Longing to know our Creator and answer His call by “His own glory and goodness”—more in our earthly lives than that which we can see, touch, hear, smell, buy, sell, trade and accumulate. I need to make eternity precious. I need to be an extravagant steward of eternity. Treasure eternity in my heart. We are told that eternity lives in the human heart but we cannot understand it. Wait. What? It would seem I have been wired with eter-nology I wasn’t aware I had. God has wired me for my journey with divine GPS. My heavenly destination lives in my heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
Today’s episode begins amini series on filling your 2023 earthly life with heavenly treasures.This series explores theparallel of loving high quality earthly things—the SEEN—with loving heavenly treasures—the UNSEEN. It is about filling your earthly life with beautiful heavenly things that make life precious for you, and others. How do I treasure eternity? To want to seek out the grain of God’s character? To want to hear His voice all day as if it were the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center, to seek His word as if a croissant from Balthazar’s on Prince & Broadway, or to binge read about His Son’s earthly life as if a 300-page historical novel or watch season three of my go-to Netflix series?
Today I am working toward a place of resting in my gratefulness. To prepare, I am thinking about the mystery of God’s Will, the thievery of anxiety, and the gratitude that takes me beyond. Beyond to loving others more. To loving more “others.”
“We made the 45-minute journey, a mini modern-day pilgrimage, to go beyond the ancient wall that had surrounded Rome, to pay tribute to this humble, obedient apostle. It was here that I heard what gratitude really sounds like. In another language. I knelt at the altar next to a young lady and was immediately brought into the passion of her prayer, the power of the “gracias” in her gratitude, of what it sounds like when a person has relinquished all to the power of God, and what it felt like to be in such close proximity to it. I witnessed the voice of a believer’s thankful heart.”
What are you so all-in about that it will take the entire year to define your resolve, express it, and ride the swell of gratitude for what God will teach you along the way? If you are thinking, oh, I have plenty of time for this later, oddly, this is a good time to note that there are a few rules about the ocean. Here’s one: never turn your back on the water. If you aren’t paying attention it can sweep you out to a sea of resolutions that should not define you in 2023. The ocean has its own agenda. And your year will too, if you do not own it now. Turn toward, face outward, and swim toward 2023 now.
The Bible is the most widely distributed and best-selling book in the world. Returning to the same book over and over again—even in its stature amongst the classics—requires an act of spiritual congress, or more realistically, a paradigm shift of the heart. What part of your human nature casts a shadow over how you approach reading God’s Word? Is it something similar to ambition, anxiety, like me? Or is it sporadic readings? Is it confusion, is it boredom, is it distraction, is it time, obligation, lack of interest, a longing that is just too shallow? Or what?
How do we handle THE WAIT that runs between God’s timing and the answered prayer? It’s hard to get a handle on waiting indefinitely. Our culture has applied an algorithm to our lives that solicits our attention in a certain way at a certain time for a predetermined result. Automation is a given. We are readily impatient because of it.
When Jesus called four fishermen to follow Him, they already knew all about caught fish, lost fish, and the challenges of an empty net. Then they witnessed the seaworthy bounty from Jesus’ command to drop the nets. What were they first to do?

God created us in His image, physical like the animals but with a spirit in His image so we can have a spiritual relationship with Him. He could have created minions, but He didn’t. He created us in His likeness. God gives every human the agency to choose what we believe.
