Randi Boike, BA, RN, C-MNN, C-OB, C-EFM
Read MoreRandi Boike is a Senior Clinical Educator with Laborie Medical Technologies in the Southeast region. Randi has spent her extensive nursing career working in all areas of maternal child health. Her diversified background includes being a staff nurse in small community hospital birthing units as well as being a Clinical Specialist in large Level 4 maternity centers. She has cared for high-risk obstetric patients in the home setting and served as a coordinator and member of maternal transport teams performing ground, fixed wing, and helicopter transfers.
When Randi left the bedside, she established herself as a nurse leader. She was involved with opening the 2nd OB Hemorrhage center in the country. She has opened OBED units, and cross-trained nurses for OB ICU departments. When Dr. Jerome Adams served as the 20th Surgeon General of the United States, Randi was selected to be an advisor to assist in exploring the growing crisis of severe maternal morbidity.
Randi found her niche and favorite role as a perinatal consultant. Teaching classes, leading OB drills mock scenarios, and mentoring other nurses have been among her favorite opportunities.
Randi is an active AWHONN member and has been a Florida chapter co-chair in both Broward and Palm Beach/Treasure Coast chapters.
Randi never tires of sharing her knowledge and passion. She has been a speaker at numerous professional symposiums across the country. She has shared her expertise with hospital staff and conference attendees to provide the highest quality of patient care. Her passion is obvious, and she can make the most complicated concepts easy to understand with her dynamic teaching style. Her enthusiasm and energy are contagious.

Read MoreMiriam Yeung is a social justice leader who has successfully fought for and improved the lives of young people, women, LGBT people, immigrants, and people of color in the United States. Currently, Miriam is the lead faculty for the AWHONN Emerging Leaders Program and runs a consulting practice that focuses on helping leaders and organizations spend their resources most meaningfully to improve the world we live in.
Miriam led the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF (2008-2016)), the nation's only national multi-issue organization dedicated to building power and winning reproductive justice, economic justice and immigrant rights for Asian American and Pacific Islander women and girls. She co-founded We Belong Together, a campaign that organizes women for immigrant rights; spent 10 years at NYC LGBT Community Center organizing youth, improving policy and government relations; and built the Causes in Common coalition, a cross movement initiative to more closely align the LGBT liberation movement with the reproductive rights, health and justice movements.
Miriam played a key role in developing the NYS and NYC Dignity for All Students Act, supported LGBT inclusion within the foster care system, and successfully advocated for the inclusion of LGB youth in statewide data collection efforts.
In 2016, Miriam received the Ms. Foundation’s Gloria Steinem Woman of Vision award. She serves on the board of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, MomsRising and GalvanizeUSA. Raised in the projects of Brooklyn, Miriam is a proud, queer, immigrant, woman, activist parent to two amazing young daughters.

Her maternal consultant work has been sourced to Pearson, the National League for Nursing, and a 12-system hospital, NYC Health and Hospitals, to deliver AWHONN fetal monitoring and simulation. Dr. McLean utilizes simulation to address diversity, equity, and inclusion in maternal care and obstetrical training. In her efforts to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality, she travels internationally to teach health care teams best practices for obstetric complications and how to work collaboratively to decrease adverse outcomes.
Dr. McLean is also a current member of the NY State Maternal Mortality Committee for the Department of Health in New York State for legislative recommendations. Her current research focuses on the use of virtual reality in clinical settings to enhance training for students, as well as to address perinatal mood disorders, substance use, and the gaps in maternal care delivery that are impacted by social determinants.

She’s a nurse scientist whose program of research centers on policy-focused, implementation science to reduce health disparities and improve health equity for families at the intersection of reproductive justice and substance use.
Through a practice lens, she became aware of how discriminatory health and social policies often take advantage of, rather than support historically marginalized people. Thus, Dr. McGlothen-Bell is currently examining how discrimination, intersectional stigma, and implementation of mandatory reporting policies affect access to and utilization of obstetrical care and treatment services among pregnant and parenting people with a history of substance use. Most recently, she was selected as a 2023 Fellow for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing.

Through participatory, arts-based, and quantitative approaches, Dr. Skrine Jeffers develops and informs community-based, mental health interventions that attend to the lived experiences and cultural assets of Black women across their life courses.
Her most recent work translated the findings from her research-based play about depression among Black women into a virtual sister circle intervention. In other studies, she has engaged community stakeholders to address pressing maternal morbidity, mortality, and intergenerational birthing experiences of Black women and examined associations between health system factors and maternal mental health.

Kristin is the mother of two teenagers, a part of the LGBTQ+ and polyam communities, and an anti-racist activist. Her approach to lactation and mental health work is based in individualized care, deep acceptance, and empathy, along with strong clinical skills. She sees clients as whole people who deserve to be supported to reach their goals. Her 20+ years of clinical education and experience, coupled with personal understanding of lactation, parenting, and mental health work gives clients the best possible care.

Debra has over 30 years of perinatal clinical experience. She was the first Executive Director of the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), a VP for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), and an Associate Professor of Healthcare Quality and Safety at the University of Maryland (UMSON).
At CMQCC she co-authored and launched the Obstetric Hemorrhage and Elimination of Elective Deliveries Prior to 39 Weeks Toolkits and collaboratives. At AWHONN she co-created and launched the Postpartum Hemorrhage Project, POST-BIRTH Warning Signs, and the Maternal Fetal Triage Index. At UMSON she expanded the utilization of implementation science and quality improvement methods and tools within the Doctor of Nursing Practice curriculum. She was also the principal investigator for the Advancing Implementation Science Education (AdvISE) Nurse Support II grant funded by the Maryland Commission of Higher Education.
Debra’s leadership and expertise is exemplified in her many co-authored, peer-review articles and implementation tool-kits. She’s developed and led several state and national quality improvement initiatives that have reduced maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. Thus, Debra has been quoted by The New York Times, USA Today, Reuters, and The Associated Press. She’s a sought-after speaker that’s been interviewed on NPR, Studio 1A, and on Katie Couric’s podcast Next Question.
Debra is the co-editor of her son David K. Jones’s (1981-2021) book Ripples of Hope in the Mississippi Delta: Charting the Health Equity Policy Agenda.
Renee Byfield, MS, RN, FNP, C-EFM, FAAN

Renee was a Perinatal Safety Administrator at NYP – Weill Cornell that launched team trainings and in-situ interdisciplinary simulation drills; and at Kaiser Permanente GA she was Nurse Manager for OB/GYN, Urogynecology where she launched the Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation clinic.
As a PhD student at the Emory University School of Nursing and a National Institute of Health Pre-Doctoral Training Scholar, her research is focused on advancing maternal health equity by leveraging data science and health information technology to address and mitigate obstetric violence. Renee is also the recipient of AWHONN’s 2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Award.

In this role, she’s helped to grow a full-scope midwifery service that’s integral to clinical care, education, and research within the College of Medicine OBGYN Department. USF Midwives serves as a sizeable clinical placement site for midwifery students. They partner with Tampa General Hospital to advocate for care practices, tools, protocols, and policies that support family-centered, physiologic birth.
Jessica understands the importance of the midwives’ role within a well-integrated system to provide safe birth outcomes. She coordinates outreach to community-based midwives to facilitate safe and smooth transfers when indicated.
As a partner with the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative, she’s developed and implemented labor support training throughout the state for hospital leaders participating in the Mother-Focused Care Initiative. The focus of these training sessions is on reducing the low-risk cesarean birth rate and applying Respectful Maternity Care.
Jessica has been an active American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) leader for many years. Currently, she’s the ACNM Board of Directors President-elect. Her past roles include serving as ACNM Florida President and Tampa chapter chair. Jessica seeks to strengthen, grow, and diversify the midwifery profession in everything she does.

Ashley Winch, PhD
Read MoreDr. Ashley Winch received her PhD from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Clinical Psychology and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UCF RESTORES. Her research and clinical focus are in the treatment, education, and prevention of traumatic experiences and subsequent symptoms.
Ashley started her clinical training at the Yale Child Study Center under the mentorship of Dr. Nancy Suchman in substance use and parenting. At UCF, she continued this work as she began her doctoral training. Once she joined UCF RESTORES, she received extensive training in the treatment of trauma symptoms experienced by first responders, veterans, and civilians following significant trauma exposure.
In addition, Ashley was trained in Autism assessment and treatment at Nemours Children’s Hospital. She completed her postdoctoral residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital where she combined her training in trauma and neurodiversity to cater to children experiencing trauma symptoms with comorbid ADHD, Autism, and in-utero substance exposure in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Due to her deep passion for the work being done at UCF RESTORES, Ashley returned to UCF following completion of her PhD.

Throughout the years, Angie’s dedication and expertise flourished, leading her to serve as a preceptor and eventually as team lead in 2017.
Angie experienced postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and recognizes the imperative need for enhanced assessments to promptly detect bleeding. As a PPH survivor, her mission has become to ensure all patients receive the quality care they deserve, emphasizing the swift identification of any potential issues.

She’s also volunteered as a community advisory board member for the March of Dimes. Dr. Koenig works with the community organization NewMoms where she develops programming related to nutrition, meal planning, and stress reduction techniques.

With a background in Labor & Delivery nursing and a master’s in public administration, she founded initiatives like Health Equity Alliance 4 Life (HEAL) to tackle maternal health inequities.
As a Clinical Community Outreach Coordinator, Tenesia orchestrates outreach programs to enhance healthcare quality and diminish disparities in underserved communities. Her journey from volunteer nurse to community leader embodies her commitment to bridging the gap between hospitals and communities, emphasizing the importance of addressing social determinants of health and racial disparities in maternal health care.
Tenesia is a 2022-2023 graduate of AWHONN’s Emerging Leader Program and currently serves on the national AWHONN Membership Committee. Together with her colleague Cheniqua Morales, she has launched the AWHONN NYC Chapter, aiming to further the mission of combating the maternal health crisis in NYC by fostering collaboration and connection among nurses.

Read MoreJessica Brumley, CNM, PhD, has been a midwife for 20 years. She’s the Division of Midwifery Director at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa. In this role, she’s helped to grow a full-scope midwifery service that’s integral to clinical care, education, and research within the College of Medicine OBGYN Department. USF Midwives serves as a sizeable clinical placement site for midwifery students. They partner with Tampa General Hospital to advocate for care practices, tools, protocols, and policies that support family-centered, physiologic birth.
Jessica understands the importance of the midwives’ role within a well-integrated system to provide safe birth outcomes. She coordinates outreach to community-based midwives to facilitate safe and smooth transfers when indicated.
As a partner with the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative, she’s developed and implemented labor support training throughout the state for hospital leaders participating in the Mother-Focused Care Initiative. The focus of these training sessions is on reducing the low-risk cesarean birth rate and applying Respectful Maternity Care.
Jessica has been an active American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) leader for many years. Currently, she’s the ACNM Board of Directors President-elect. Her past roles include serving as ACNM Florida President and Tampa chapter chair. Jessica seeks to strengthen, grow, and diversify the midwifery profession in everything she does.
