Each year, we take a look at the birth of our Savior, Jesus. This year, we will be looking at Jesus' birth and those individuals that were a part of the Biblical narrative found in the New Testament: The Magi, The Shepherds, king Herod, Mary, and Joseph. These people listened and responded differently to the good news of Messiah's coming to earth.

How are we reacting to the voice of God speaking to us?

Do we find ourselves aligning with a specific group of people from the story of Jesus' birth? We want to prepare our hearts to hear one of the most important stories in all of history and understand the importance of listening to and for the voice of God in our lives each day.

Our October Series is titled, "In Christ" and we will be looking at who we are "In Christ" and how that works today. How do we handle conflict? How do we live a life devoted to the Father in the midst of adversity? How do we handle the tough conversations that Scripture has called us to have with fellow believers? How do we lead as God has called us to lead with humility?

This series will have us diving deeper into Scripture to remove the mystery behind those questions and more. We desire to see Pennway Church of God living life "In Christ" and being bold in what we believe and who we are "In Christ"!

As Jesus says in Luke 6:45, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

How we posture our hearts changes what our hearts become filled with. When our hearts fill with righteousness, it overflows, and we live with a deep peace, a peace that is greatly needed in our world today. Join us as we dive into what scripture teaches us about how to posture our hearts so that we grow as strong followers of the way of Jesus.

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God, our Provider, is still providing; God, our Healer, is still healing; God, our Redeemer, is still redeeming all things.

When we celebrate who God is, what he has done, and what he has said through scripture, our faith is stirred, knowing that what God has done, he longs to do again.

God's grace toward us is an endless ocean. No circumstance is too big for his grace; neither suffering nor shame, neither our shortcomings nor our limitations stand a chance in the face of God's overwhelming grace. As we grow in receiving the grace that God has for us, we also become ministers of that same grace, transforming our families and communities.

We encourage you each week to read the chapter we will discuss that Sunday ahead of time. This will help us all dive into the depths of God's grace as we spend time in the first five chapters of 2 Corinthians.

At the heart of what we believe, and thus who we are, is God. We worship a triune God: one God, three Persons. Understanding who God is helps us to understand ourselves because we are made in the image of God.

Join us as we look at the three Persons of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and explore what that means for who we are and how we live.

Too often in our lives, we get trapped in thinking about our circumstances through a lens of what we can accomplish in our own strength and with our own limitations. However, the consistent story of scripture is that we worship a God of More than Enough.

In every circumstance, whether it's a medical diagnosis, a bill in the mail, or a phone call with heartbreaking news, God is inviting us to live from the reality that, in Him, we always have more than enough.

INHERITANCE!

February Series

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling,

what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints…

Ephesians 1:18 NASB

The Father’s heart is for us. He sent Jesus into the world he created to reconcile us to him. We rejoice in our salvation and the forgiveness of our sins! We celebrate that we will spend eternity in glory…

…and Jesus changed everything for us here on earth.

As sons and daughters of God, we receive an inheritance that begins here on earth. The Scriptures are filled with promises God has made to his children. All of his promises to us are “yes and amen!”

Let's Talk About Joy

We choose joy.

As we journey through life, there are seasons of happiness and sorrow. We can easily be affected by the choices of others and even the weather. Each day, as we read the news, we enter a battle against the despair that captures our attention.

We choose joy.

What if there was another way? What if we changed our mindset? Join us this January as we reset our default to joy. Through the study of Scripture and implementing practices that foster joy, we can begin each day with expectancy and hope.

We choose joy.

LOVE GIVES

Advent Series

We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us —and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?1 John 3:16-17 (NRSV)

ON THE MOUNT | LOVING COMMUNITY

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. And He opened His mouth and began to teach them... Matthew 5:1-2 NASB

Jesus showed us how to love deeply and live powerfully. His life was an example of how to live a fully human life. Jesus understood our need for a deep and loving community. When the crowds gathered, he taught them how to live in the Kingdom of God. If we pause long enough with Jesus we will begin to live and love like him.

Join us Sunday mornings this September and October as we spend time together on the Mount with Jesus.

REFRESH
Refresh | Give new strength or energy to; reinvigorate

Summer is a time filled with lakes, picnics, and rest. When we get back to “reality,” we often feel the pressure to make up for taking a break. What would happen if we continued to breathe deep and live refreshed? This year let’s get ready for school, work, and fall by pausing to refresh.

We also need a refresher, a reminder, of who we are as a church. Each and every Sunday, we are inviting you into the way of Jesus. Join us Sundays in August as we recommit to our mission and commitments.

LETTERS FROM THE EDGE

John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.  Revelation 1:4-5 NASB

Imagine arriving at church on a Sunday morning and hearing that we received a letter to the whole church. Not just any letter; this letter is from Jesus. As you listen to the letter being read, you are filled with a mixture of expectation and concern. What does Jesus have to say? Does he want to celebrate us or encourage us to be better?

In the first century, seven of the most significant churches in the world received letters from Jesus. He did have words of encouragement. He also had words of correction. Join us this June and July as we read these letters together and listen to what Jesus has to say to us.

The Way of Jesus

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:2 NASB

Pennway Church of God exists to invite you into the way of Jesus. We believe that everyone comes to Father God only through Jesus (John 14:6). In the Gospels, we read of the extraordinary life, world-transforming death, and power-spreading resurrection of Jesus. The way of Jesus leads to the Father, leads to salvation, and continues to transform us throughout our lives. We believe the way of Jesus is committed to the Presence of God, love of neighbor, Kingdom life, generational impact, and hilarious generosity.

Entertaining Angels | Advent 2022

"Let love of the brothers and sisters continue. Do not neglect hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:1-2 NASB

This Advent, we are inviting you to be aware and look with holy awe at those who are among us. The everyday passerby on the street, the person who cuts you off in traffic, the homeless person on the curb, the angry parent at a basketball game. This an opportunity for us to pause and notice where God's goodness is at work and how we can partner with him. Because when we do, we might catch glimpses of gossamer wings on angels- messengers of God unaware.

Prayer | A Conversation Between Friends

Some people pray the moment they wake up in the morning. They have decided that "seeking first his kingdom" means that the first words on their lips should be prayers lifted to the throne of heaven. Other people pause before each and every meal. It doesn't matter if they are gathered around the family table or have stopped for fast food. They believe that food should not touch their lips until their petition passes from their heart to Holy Spirit.

Many wait to pray until all options have been exhausted. When the medicine stops working or they have nowhere else to turn, they relent by falling to their knees. As the tears flow, their words fall as they lay all their hope at the feet of Jesus. We are encouraged to "rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) So every prayer lifted is an act of faith and obedience. Each prayer that crosses our lips is an attempt to connect with God.

Often we fear that we are praying the wrong way, at the wrong time, and with all the wrong words. Let's allow those worries to fall to the side for a moment. Let's imagine that our prayer is simply a conversation between friends.
