After the recent school shooting in Nashville, where I live, I reached out to Manya Chylinski for support. I thought it would be appropriate to replay this episode with her, in light of the traumatic event. Please consider checking out her new podcast, Notes on Resilience.
--Original Notes--
How do you support someone after trauma? What does is look like to lead through trauma? I loved talking with Manya Chylinski to answer these questions.
In this episode you'll hear:
Communications specialist and survivor Manya Chylinski helps people whose lives have been touched by trauma understand how resiliency and compassion are part of the path to healing, to enable them to thrive after difficult experiences. As a speaker and a writer, Manya’s mission is to spread the word about how some survivors of trauma appear unharmed but actually experience very real mental health injuries.
She’s an entrepreneur who uses her experience as a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing to help others understand the importance of trauma-sensitive leadership and recognizing the psychological impacts of violence. She has spoken about the importance of validating the invisible victims of trauma on stages across the US including the Pennsylvania Governor’s Emergency Management conference, the National Homeland Security conference, and SXSW.
Manya is also the founder of Alley424 Communications, where she helps businesses tell their stories, and the co-founder of Project BFF, where she works to empower women and their friendships. She serves on the board of NAMI Massachusetts and is a commissioner with the Massachusetts Eastern Regional Commission on Women.

Have you ever stopped to think about the power of meaning in your leadership? In this episode we do exactly that be exploring the importance of meaning, or logotherapy, and how it applies to leadership. Specifically we will be discussing:
Dr. Dan has been a psychotherapist and organizational health consultant for over 25 years. His perspective comes from years of experience actively listening to people talk about the struggles in their lives, work, relationships, habits, and decisions; and then collaborating with them to craft and implement a plan for optimal healthy change.
Whether working with an individual, a family, or an organizational management team, the principles of good health and positive communication are the same. But it’s in the differences in each situation that Dr. Dan works to help the client discover opportunities for meaningful growth and to achieve alignment – individually and organizationally.
He brings to his speaking his experience, training, and passion for guiding others to growth, with the intention that each audience member walks away with actionable ideas, and a desire to improve their own life, as well as the lives of those they impact.
In the past decade, he has worked with international corporations like 3M and Trelleborg Manufacturing, small businesses, school corporations, multiple colleges and universities, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Have you ever worked with a leader who wasn't confident? It's hard to trust them, tough to follow their lead. Confident leaders, on the other hand, build trust and create momentum. If you've wanted to feel more confident in your leadership roles, this episode makes it really clear how to do just that.
We're talking with Minna Taylor, and she tells us how confidence is actually a behavior and an action - a skill that you can learn. It's not a personality trait. We'll cover:
Minna Taylor is the author of The Confident Body and the Founder of Energize Your Voice (WBE), a NYC based communication coaching and training firm. With an experiential approach, rooted in the principles of play and performance, she and her team support organizations, individuals, and entrepreneurs to explore their full potential in public speaking, storytelling, and leadership communication. Notable clients include UBER, Red Bull, Citi, and E&Y.
Minna earned her BFA from NYU Tisch and went on to earn her MFA in Performance with a concentration in speech and vocal production. Beginning her career as an accent reduction specialist, Minna went on to transfer her theatre training to developing an innovative approach for professional development. Her book, The Confident Body: a functional approach to unlocking your full potential, is now available on Amazon.

"Risk taking reminds us that we are alive. Don’t be afraid of the fact that failure is always “on the table” when you take risks. We are truly alive when we live a bit outside of our comfort zone. And, don’t be afraid to take responsibility for failures." - Dr. Rich Gathro.
I am delighted to introduce to you my former boss and now friend, Richard L. Gathro, Ed.D. Dr. Gathro has over 40 years of leadership experience that’s impossible to summarize in just a short paragraph. Dr. Gathro’s expertise is in higher education and nonprofit consulting, which has taken him all over the globe, engaging students and building relationships. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards in the United States, Russia and the United Kingdom and is currently serving on the Board of Directors at The Culture Connection, the Hodos Institute for Leadership Development and Research, and the Special Father’s Network. He has built several small businesses. The Gathro Group, a Nonprofit Consulting Company, being his most recent venture. Dr. Gathro is a scholar, mentor, leader, husband, father and friend.
