As a culture, Americans often think in absolute terms. 2020 has exposed many of the underlying tensions in our society. Racial, political, economic, and social fabrics have all been fraying at the ends and the populace is becoming more polarized daily. Conversations on Culture was created to demonstrate that we can discuss our differences and disagreements, in a manner that seeks to expose the nuance of our daily lives. Vince returns to lend his perspective on recent events as both a Black male and a Police officer. His insight adds a lot of nuance that is missing from the general conversation. We also get into a brief conversation about unions and Police Associations
Matt and I have a really insightful conversation about police violence, police accountability, the messaging of the movement, and how the movement builds allies.
James and I get into a more personal, from a cultural perspective, conversation and discuss how our culture interacts with and looks at policing. We also talk about a couple of personal experiences with the police.
Tanner and I talk about the politics surrounding the recent events surrounding the murder of George Floyd. This conversation was a great example of how their are many different fronts that this battle has to fought on.
James and I have a really frank talk about everything going on, and touch on a lot of subjects. This one is unique because it is very unedited. It is the most natural of the conversations that I had, so I decide to not mess with it too much.
