As children of God we are on a narrow journey, with jagged edges... similar to a cog. We are small parts to an extraordinary working machine, and we have a job to do. Like most jobs our work gets hard, serving and fighting spiritual warfare and spreading the word of God. What does it mean to be a child of God? To accept the pruning, and his chastening. The word discipline shows up in the bible 100 times, and the word disciple shows up in the bible 261 times.Scripture:Hebrew 12:4-134 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, '“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a]prayer request Can I help carry your burdens, can I pray for/with you? Today, we are talking about Jonah [Jonah 1: 1-17] . We are talking about the first key verses in which Jonah decides to run away from God and how that decision affected not only him but others.
God is never far from you, but sometimes through our actions, we try to “run” from God or further our distance, because we don’t want to obey or because we feel we are undeserving. We see God not only use Jonah in and during his running away, but we also see how in control God is of everything including our lives.

KEY God is never far from you, but sometimes through our actions, we try to “run” from God or further our distance, because we don’t want to obey or because we feel we are undeserving. We are all undeserving, of course some people think they are deserving, but I know that I am, and if I am undeserving, I can’t judge anyone else.

We see them complaining about their circumstances, and changing their mind or where they are. We've seen Moses frustration and pain, as well as those who love turn their backs to him and talk negatively about him. It's family time for Moses to pass on, and Joshua is taking over as the new form of leadership for the Israelites. It's the beginning of the year, and I know we all want to discuss resolutions, but how about we focus on ways to be thankful for last year and evaluating how to be prosperous, faithful and loving this year. Fasting can help in all of those aspects, but where do we start? We can start with fully learning and researching how to fast, and what is our purpose in fasting. Some of our purposes may align with worshiping God, learning how to be a better child of God, asking for repentance for our sins, or looking for ways to minister to others. Whatever your purpose is for fasting we are going to get into it today, in Fasting 101.
