Episode 55 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Today on the show we discuss the Steelers big victory over the Commanders on Sunday. It wasn’t always perfect, but in the end the team got the job done.

George Pickens had a a big day leading the offense, he also had some antics that still have us a bit concerned. On the other side of the ball, Patrick Queen had his best game as a Steelers helping keep Jayden Daniels in check.

Next we float the idea of Justin Fields possibly having a Taysom Hill type of package. It’s something that could help the offense, and give opposing defenses something extra to think about.

Episode 52 of the new Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. In this episode we take a look at the two players the Steelers acquired at the trade deadline. Mike Williams may be a little disappointing after all the names we heard linked to this team. Preston Wilson is a good move however as he provides depth at the edge.

Next we preview the upcoming Commanders game. Jayden Daniels is the number one concern in this game. The rookie QB is having a sensational season in Washington. The Steelers run game should help keep Daniels off the field.

Episode 39 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the podcast with an in depth discussion about the Steelers wide receiver situation. George Pickens continues to cause drama with the team. Roman Wilson can not get on the field, and the rest of the group just isn’t very good. Omar Khan and company have really dug a hole at that position.

Next we discuss if/when Russell Wilson will replace Justin Fields at quarterback. Wilson has been a full participant all week in practice for the first time this season. This could very well be Fields most important start of his career. Any bad play could get him yanked from the game on Sunday.

We wrap up the pod with a preview of Sunday’s game vs the Raiders. Las Vegas is a very beat up football team, and not very talented to begin with. We all agree this should be an easy win even on the road. Subscribe, rate and review the pod, or our YouTube channel. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Week 5 left of plenty of candidates for the bad and ugly, but left us with a tough task to find any good. Coaching, and George Pickens were popular candidates for the negative. While special teams was one of the few good things out of Sunday night.

Episode 37 of the new Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The whole gang is here to breakdown the Steelers loss to the Dallas Cowboys. We start the pod discussing the struggling running game. Is it Najee, the offensive line, or the play calling. We decide it may be a little bit of everything.

Next it’s on to the hot topic of the week, George Pickens. He had a season low snap count this week. Much less than Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin. Mike Tomlin tried to play it off as some kind of rotation, but it clearly appears to be some kind of a disciplinary action. This is something to keep a close eye on.

We wrap up the pod trying to figure out if this is the week that Russell Wilson takes over the starting quarterback position. It was hinted on the broadcast that Wilson is healthy, and expects to start. This could have a devastating effect on Justin Fields confidence, and an all around bad idea.

Episode 35 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This time we finally have the whole crew together for the first time. We start the pod off talking about the latest Davante Adam’s rumors. Unfortunately we are in for another long stint of “is he coming/he’s not coming” rumors. The entire cast does not think it’s likely Adams will be traded to Pittsburgh.

Next we touch on the lack of depth at the corner position. As it stands right now, James Pierre is the only backup corner on the roster. If he should have to play significant snaps on defense, this could be a disaster.

We wrap up the pod with a preview of Sunday night’s Steelers/Cowboys game. We breakdown Dak Prescott vs the Steelers defense, and how this could be a big day running for Justin Fields. We also give our predictions for the game.

Episode 33 of the brand new Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We have made some changes to the podcast that we are very excited about. The Steelers Sanctuary crew has grown by three more members. We have added Bob Quinn, LeeAnn Lowman, And Zach Fransiscus to the pod. With these three you can expect more and more from us in the coming weeks.

To start the pod, we discuss the recent injury to James Daniels that will sideline him for the rest of the season. Daniels is the third offensive lineman to be lost for the season. This puts even more pressure on some of the younger players along the line.

Next we dig into the 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The big takeaway here is how badly Shane Steichen has out coached Mike Tomlin three games in a row dating back to 2022 when he was OC for the Eagles. Steichen seems ro have the secret formula to pick apart the Steelers defense. We also go over the disastrous last two minutes. Between the bad snap, Najee not going out of bounds, and Tomlin’s terrible clock management there’s plenty of blame to go around.

We wrap up,the pod talking about Justin Fields. Some on social media want him replaced despite being the first Steelers quarterback in four years to throw for 300 yards. Justin Fields has exceeded expectations and should remain this team’s starting quarterback.

Episode 33 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week the pod starts out with a look at all the injuries this team has suffered. Cory Trice is the latest Steelers player to be placed on IR. Meanwhile north Jaylen Warren, and Alex Highsmith look like they will miss this week’s game.

Next it’s a preview of the upcoming game against the Colts. Indianapolis has one of the worst run defenses in the league. That’s something the Steelers should be able to take advantage of. They do however have weapons on offense. Players like Anthony Richardson, and Jonathan Taylor will present problems for the Steelers defense.

We rap up the pod with our weekly segment LEGENDARY NFL PICKS. Dave and I pick every game against thr spread, and give out our lock of the week. We also give our prediction for the Steelers game.

Episode 30 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some injury news. Rookie tackle Troy Fuatanu “tweaked” something at practice yesterday. That led to Broderick Jones getting the bulk of the full time reps in practice. If he has to start on Sunday against those really good Charger edge rushers, this could be trouble. We also discuss how this is a real test to see just how improved Dan Moore really is.

Next we breakdown the other aspects of Sunday’s game. Los Angeles has a pair of really good tackles. Will they slow down the Steelers pass rush? Dave is really excited about the potential debut of Roman Wilson. He could really help jumpstart this passing game.

Episode 29 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we go over the Steelers 13-6 victory over the Denver Broncos. Two things we have learned so far. The Steelers have an elite defense, and the offense has a ways to go. The team has ridden their defense to a 2-0 start, good for first place in the AFC North. The offense has shown signs of improvement, but it has not shown up on the scoreboard.

Next we tackle the Mike Tomlin press conference. He did his very best to tamp down any quarterback controversy. He continues to insist Russell Wilson is hurt, and therefore there is no discussion who the starter at quarterback should be. Tomlin also mentioned he will have referees at practice all week to deal with all the penalty problems the team has had.

One final highlight for the Tomlin press conference was the explanation on why he decided to rotate his right tackles in this game. The result of this rotation was a disaster as Broderick Jones struggled with three penalties on his drive. We discuss how the Steelers have absolutely ruined Jones in the way they have handled him.

Episode 28 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we are joined by Bob Quinn and Zach Franciscus of the Steel City Rings Podcast. We team up to preview the Steelers 2024 season, and make some bold predictions as well.

The pod starts with some Steelers news. We discuss the recent contract extension for Cam Heyward. This is a great deal for the Steelers, with only $29 million in new money over 3 years. We also go over the Steelers first regular season depth chart just realized this week. No real surprises on this depth chart. Beanie Bishop being first team slot corner made for a good conversation. How did the Steelers allow an undrafted rookie become the starter by default?

The pod wraps up with lots of fun predictions for the 2024 season. We cover lots of areas including what will be the Steelers final record, who will lead the team in total yards, and so much more. You don’t want to miss this episode.

Episode 27 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. W estart the pod out with the news of Isaac Seumalo’s pec injury. He could miss up to four weeks with this injury. This makes a bad situation even worse for the Steelers offensive line. Injuries, and inexperience stand to make this a rough ride early on.

Next we jump into the big news of the week. Brandon Aiyuk has re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers. This leaves the Steelers with one of the weaker wide receiver rooms in the league. The team had 5 months to replace Diontae Johnson, and only managed to acquire journeyman like Van Jefferson, and Scotty Miller.

We wrap up the pod debating who is to blame for the lack of significant moves on offense. Omar Khan takes a lion share of the blame. He seems to have painted himself into a corner hoping he could pry Aiyuk away. All the while ignoring other options. Mike Tomlin is also to blame because this is the type of offense he wants. He prefers an offense that emphasizes backs and tight ends rather than wide receivers. We’ll see if that works in the 2024 NFL.

Episode 26 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This episode is all about roster cut down day in the NFL. We start the pod out with some news. Jeremiah Moon, and Dylan Cook were both placed on IR. Each of them are not eligible to return for four weeks. Ryan Watts was placed on season ending IR. The injury he suffered in the last preseason game was more serious than originally thought.

Next we jump right into the roster moves of the day. Some surprising cuts were players like Kyron Johnson, and Dez Fitzpatrick. Both players had good preseasons , and were thought to have a decent chance to make the roster. Some surprise players who made the roster include Logan Lee, and Jalen Elliot. The Steelers kept 8 defensive lineman compared to the 6 they usually keep. We also did not expect the team to keep 5 safeties. We believe that more moves are coming so stay tuned.

The pod wraps up as we go through each position, discussing any surprises, or disappointments we thought happened. We believe the wide receivers and corners on this team are particularly weak.

Episode 25 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This time we are reviewing the Steelers preseason finale against the Lions. We start right out with the quarterback position. Russell Wilson played in only one drive, but that drive resulted in a touchdown. He seems a shoe in to be the starter. Justin Fields also played well. We said all along he’d have to do something spectacular to win the starting job, he did not do that.

The unquestioned star of the preseason was linebacker Nick Herbig. He dominated the Lions second string offense to the tune of 2 sacks. The Steelers may have a star in the making. This leads us to believe the defense has a chance to be elite.

We end the pod talking about potential roster cuts. We go over several names including Jeremiah Moon, Logan Lee, and Ryan Watts. There also should be several roster adds at positions like wide receiver, and corner.

Episode 24 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some Steelers news. Nate Herbig was officially put on IR, meaning he will now miss the entire season. The team also cut corner Anthony Everett. Good news on the Jaylen Warren front. Mike Tomlin expects him to be ready for week one.

Next we discuss if there is anything Justin Fields can do in this last preseason game to win the starting quarterback job. We both agree he’d have to do something spectacular, combined with a really bad performance by Russell Wilson to have a chance to overtake him.

The concern over the Steelers offensive line is our next topic. Who will be the starting right tackle come week one? Will it be the struggling Broderick Jones, or the inexperienced Troy Fautanu. Either option has major concerns. One thing is for sure, Dan Moore’s job is safe for the foreseeable future.

We wrap up the pod with a look at some other roster battles. There definitely are some players playing for their spot on the roster come Saturday afternoon. Subscribe to our pod, rate and review for us. Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com

Epsidoe 23 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This episode is almost entirely dedicated to the Steelers struggling offense. The Steelers are coming off a miserable offensive performance in their second preseason game, losing to the Bills 9-3. Lots of blame to go along as the entire unit struggled.

The biggest concern after two preseason games is the offensive line. Broderick Jones had his worst performance to date. He looks absolutely lost at right tackle. Steelers quarterbacks were under duress all night. Tough to gage where Russell Wilson is at under those conditions.

The other glaring issue is the wide receiver position. After George Pickens, this group is very much below average. Steelers receivers struggled to get open all night. Calvin Austin had zero catches, and one false start for the night. Omar Khan might want to increase his offer to San Francisco to get the Brandon Aiyuk deal done.

The good news from Saturday night was the defense. Despite missing several starters, the defense still managed to look quite good. Nick Herbig had one and a half sacks on the night to continue his impressive play.

Episode 22 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The pod starts with a little Steelers news. Corner Grayland Arnold has been put on IR, meaning he will miss the entire 2024 season. This is an unfortunate blow for the Steelers as he had made a strong case to be the starting nickel corner.

Next we take a deep dive into the wide receiver situation for the Steelers. We discuss whether or not we feel any better about this group now that we’ve had all of training camp plus one preseason game. The answer is not really. Without a major acquisition, this group is clearly subpar, and not even as good as last year.

We also look at the possibility that Scotty Miller may win the starting slot receiver job. He has had a good camp, and he also is the only player with significant experience at the position. We wrap up the discussion with a look at whether or not Calvin Austin is a lock to make this roster.

The pod closes out with a look at Saturday’s game versus the Bills. Dave and I go over our top players to watch, and things to look for in the game. Subscribe to our podcast wherever you get your pods. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Episode 21 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some Steelers news. Markus Golden suddenly retired this week, leaving the team without a veteran backup at outside linebacker. Donte Jackson has missed the last two practices, opening up the door for Cory Trice. Trice is reported to be playing very well in his absence.

Next we discuss the conflicting reports by Jerry Dulac. First he reported that Troy Fautanu would miss at least two weeks with the knee injury he suffered in the game on Thursday. A day later Dulac is reporting the Steelers have decided to make Fautanu thier starting right tackle. Something doesn’t jive here.

We wrap up the pod going over Thursday night’s preseason opener. Several players shined like Montravius Adams, Zach Frazier, and Cory Trice. Others like Quez Watkins did themselves no favors in terms of making the roster. Justin Fields played well, but the fumbles continue to plague him.

Episode 20 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we once again start the pod out with Brandon Aiyuk news. Dave and I discuss what the possible compensation for Aiyuk could be. I throw out the possibility that the 49ers may want Broderick Jones back in return. That would be a hefty price to pay.

Next we discuss the news that DeMarvin Leal has been moved to outside linebacker. This fuels speculation that maybe an outside linebacker may be involved in the trade for Aiyuk. Anything is possible at this point.

We wrap up,the pod with a preview of the Steelers first preseason game. We give a list of players we are most excited about seeing. Names like Jeremiah Moon, Calvin Austin, and Peyton Wilson are just a few we can’t wait to see. Of course, Justin Fields will be the most anticipated player to watch on Friday.

Episode 19mof the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with the wild 36 hours of Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors. It seems like the Steelers are among the favorites to land the 49ers standout receiver. Dave and I talk compensation, and how a trade like this would affect the team.

Next the Steelers put out their first depth chart of 2024. Not many surprises on this depth chart, Dan Moore remains the starting left tackle, with Broderick Jones being the first team right tackle. Beanie Bishop is the surprise starting slot corner. Some veterans like Markus Golden are on the third team as of now.

The pod wraps up with more o-line talk. Nate Herbig is the front runner at center. We question when this team will finally turn the page to the young talented draft picks. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Episode 18 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Dave is in Maryland at his son’s baseball tournament so Ron Lippock joins us once again. We start the podcast with the news of a Cole Holcomb contract restructure. This has fueled speculation that the $3.5 million the Steelers will be saving on this restructure is in part to help fit Brandon Aiyuk in via a trade. We’re not convinced of that, but what this does mean is that Holcomb will remain a Steeler for the rest of the season.

Next we discuss the Steelers continued insistence to keep Dan Moore as the starting left tackle over Broderick Jones. Not only that, but Nate Herbig is starting over Zach Frazier at center despite his lack of familiarity with the position. The reluctance to start young players on the offensive line has become quite annoying.

We wrap up the pod going through each position group and any relevant news. We cover Beanie Bishop’s great play, DeMarvin Leal’s resurgence, and much more. Subscribe to our pod wherever you get your podcasts. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Episode 17 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Our pod starts with DMC, and I discussing how Russell Wilson got his calf injury. Somehow the Steelers thought it was a good idea their 35 year old quarterback do sled pushing drills. We openly question the team’s decision making on this one.

Next we dive into the George Pickens incident with wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. This is yet another warning sign on Pickens. There was a reason that such a physically talented wide receiver lasted until the second round. I question whether this player will reach a second contract with this team.

We wrap the pod up going over player reports from the first week of training camp. Players like DeMarvin Leal, Peyton Wilson, and Beanie Bishop have all flashed early on. Justin Feilds has had an up and down camp so far, while Pat Freiermuth has shown out. The offensive line continues to feature Dan Moore on the first team. This is a source of frustration for all Steelers fans.

Episode 16 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. David Corob is back just in time as Steelers training camp is about to begin. This podcast is dedicated to getting you ready for the next month or so of camp.

We start out by asking DMC who he’s most looking forward to seeing in camp. His answer was linebacker Peyton Wilson. I think we are all looking forward to seeing what this player can do. If Wilson can stay healthy, it would give the Steelers a dynamic duo of linebackers with he and Patrick Queen. I am most looking forward to seeing how Justin Fields does this summer. I can’t help but feel Fields playing at his best is a much better scenario than Russel Wilson at his best.

Next we go position group by position group going over any possible position battles. Some names to watch are Cory Trice, Jeremiah Moon, and Dylan Cook as sleepers to be camp darlings.

We wrap up the pod by taking a shot at a very early win/loss prediction. Both DMC and I have the Steelers finishing at 9-7. We reserve the right to change our mind, especially if one of the quarterbacks takes off.

Episode 15 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Ron Lippock joins us once again to talk Steelers. The pod starts with some Steelers news. The team signed old friend Tyler Matakevich this past week. This bolsters the special teams unit, and may mean the end for Mark Robinson’s days as a Steeler.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Steelers podcast without mentioning Brandon Aiyuk at least once. His recent trade demand put him back in the spotlight this week. The team needs another receiver desperately, whether or not it will be Aiyuk remains to be seen.

The pod wraps up with some Steelers over/unders. We took a look at Betonline’s odds for individual Steelers players. Some examples were TJ Watt over 13.5 sacks, Pt Freiermuth over 3.5 touchdowns, and many more. It was a fun exercise to get us ready for the upcoming season. Episode 14 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week Bob Quinn of the Steel City Rings Podcast joins us once again. We start the pod out with the big news that Cam Sutton was suspended for 8 games by the NFL. We discuss the ramifications of this suspension for the Steelers.

Next we discuss Brandon Aiyuk once again taking to social media to hint he wants out of San Francisco. This time he posted a picture of some Commanders film. I for one am tired of this soap opera, and can’t wait for a resolution one way or the other.

We wrap up the pod with both Bob and I giving out our top 5 Steelers receivers of all time. Our lists differed slightly, but we both agreed on number one. This exercise led to some great conversation about the history of this franchise. You don’t want to miss this episode. Subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss any of our great Steelers content. Episode 13 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Ron Lippock is back with us to talk Steelers football. We start the show with a discussion about the NFL losing its lawsuit over Sunday Ticket, and being ordered to pay almost $15 billion in damages. We speak on how this may affect the league’s greedy television policy going forward.

Next what would a podcast be without some Brandon Aiyuk talk. Aiyuk was on the Pivet podcast talking about how he does not feel like he and the 49ers are anywhere close to a contract agreement. He cited the Commanders, and the Steelers as the two most likely teams he would go to if he didn’t stay in San Francisco.

This leads us to a discussion on how exactly has Omar Khan’s off-season gone? While many laud his moves, we question if he hasn’t botched the WR2 situation. That, combined with the Diontae Johnson trade, and the failure to read the free agent center market have us concerned.

The pod wraps up with us looking at the team’s free agents after the season. We take each one, and decide if they are candidates for an extension before the season, starts. Most think Pat Freiermuth is the most likely to get one, but I wonder if he may be betting on himself instead.

Episode 12 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. DMC is back, and we get right into it. The pod starts with Mike Greenberg’s take that of the Steelers knew how little they needed to give up to acquire Justin Fields, they would not have signed Russell Wilson. We also discuss Ray Fittapaldo’s take that the team believes got Fields strictly as a backup.

Next we discuss the trade proposal for Brandon Aiyuk that made its rounds on social media lately. In a tweet by a San Francisco media person, he suggested the 49ers should get Zack Frazier and a day 2 pick for Aiyuk. While most Steelers fans scoffed at this idea, I would pull the trigger on it. DMC is very hesitant to do that deal however. It makes for an interesting discussion.

The pod wraps up with a look at the Steelers on Hard Knocks. We both agree this should be a tremendous look at the inner workings of the Steelers. We also agree that George Pickens could be the wild card on the team for this series. If things aren’t going well for him, Pickens could be must see tv for this series.

Episode 11 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we have a new guest making his first appearance on the pod. Bob Quinn of the Steel City Rings podcast joins us to talk Steelers. We start the pod out talking about the the cutting of Trenton Thompson and Denzel Mims earlier in the week. This has led to speculation that the team maybe adding an impact receiver soon.

Who that receiver might be remains a mystery. The Brandon Aiyuk rumors never seem to go away. The likelihood of a deal like this seems more and more unlikely as time goes by. A few other names come up as well. One to maybe keep an eye on is Tyreek Hill. Hill is looking for a new deal, and Miami already paid its other wide receiver. It’s a long shot, but something to at least think about.

Next Antonio Brown was a guest on the Pivot Podcast this week. He did not like the fact his number was given out to Cordarrelle Patterson. Bob and I discuss whether AB’s number will ever be retired in Pittsburgh. Brown also seems to have forgotten all the bad things he has said about Ben Roethlisberger in the past. Even going as far as to say they should go into the Hall of Fame together.

We wrap up the pod talking Hard Knocks. The Steelers will make their first appearance on the show this year. Depending on how the offense is going, this could get pretty interesting for Russell Wilson, George Pickens, and Mike Tomlin.

Episode 10 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. DMC is back, and we had some catching up to do. We start the pod out talking about the Mike Tomlin extension. While we both have our issue with Tomlin at times, it is good to have him signed for the foreseeable future.

Next we review the Cam Sutton signing. DMC gets his chance to weigh in on this controversial signing. He has the same reaction both Ron and I had on the last episode. It’s hard to ignore what Cam Sutton did as he becomes a member of the Steelers.

We wrap up the pod with more Cam Heyward drama. This time he is hinting he may not finish his career as a Steeler. He even goes so far as to suggest possibly going to Cleveland of all things. His act is wearing thin with us, and a lot of the fanbase as well.

Episode 9 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we have Ron Lippock back with us again filling in for DMC. We start the podcast out with some Steelers news. It appears that Russell Wilson has a no trade clause in his contract. Seems a bit silly for a guy on a one year deal to have that. We also discuss the retirement of Phil Kreider, and how the team is slowly changing out its scouting staff.

Next we have a lengthy discussion on the signing of Cam Sutton. You can not read the affidavit on what happened and not question this signing. On the feild it’s a no-brainer as Sutton fills a very large whole at the slot corner position. This is a very conflicting situation.

We wrap up the pod looking at the wide receiver two position yet again. Rumors persist that the Steelers are hunting for another wideout. Time will tell if they can pull the trigger on a deal. Subscribe to the podcast where ever you get your podcasts. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com

Episode 8 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some Steelers news. The team signed their first round pick Troy Fautanu. This leaves only one unsigned draft pick, and that’s center Zach Frazier. Andrew Philliponi reported the Steelers called on the availability of Justin Jefferson a while back. Give OmarKhan credit for leaving no stone unturned in trying to find a wide receiver for this team.

Next we take a quick look ahead to the offseason of 2025. If this team does acquire a high priced receiver, what happens to the rest of the players due new contracts? Players like TJ Watt, Pat Freiermuth, and George Pickens will all be looking for big contracts next season. Not to mention the payday Cam Heyward is looking for. How will the team manage all these big contracts will be the big question.

We wrap up the pod with a predictive quiz for DMC. I ask him questions like who will have more sacks in 2025 TJ Watt, or Highsmith, Herbig, and Ogunjobi. This is a really fun segment you don’t want to miss. Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Epsiode 7 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with some Steelers news. The team signed tight end Izaiah Gathings. They seemed to have cornered the market on tight ends and running backs.

Next we discuss the comment by Russel Wilson that Justin Fields would make an excellent “slash” type weapon in the Steelers offense. While we whole heartedly agree, we can’t help but wonder if Wilson is trying to eliminate the competition. Having said that, we’d really like to see Fields have that type of role in 2024.

Tight ends were a big topic of conversation in this pod. Darnell Washington has been the talk of OTAs. He is poised to have a much bigger role in Arthur Smith’s offense. Pat Freiermuth should have a breakout season in this offense as well. The Steelers should try hard to get him extended before the season, or pay a hefty price later.

We wrap up the pod talking what else, but the wide receiver position once again. Ray Fittapaldo thinks the Steelers will land one of the 49ers big two receivers. Either one would come at a hefty price. Then there’s the looming possibility that George Pickens will have a big season in 2024, meaning he will be looking for a huge bump in pay in 2025. Something to consider before going out and acquiring a player who will demand a big salary.

Episode 6 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week Nick Farabaugh joins us to discuss the first week of Steelers OTAs. We start out with the offensive line. Troy Fautanu gets first team reps at right tackle. How the Steelers will employ their tackles is one of the biggest mysteries of this off-season.

Next we hit on the tight ends. Darnell Washington should enjoy more success in the new Arthur Smith offense. The biggest winner in this offense should be Pat Freiermuth however. Nick tells us he’s being lined up all over the field. Freiermuth is poised for a big season in 2024.

We wrap up the pod with some linebacker talk. Nick is more optimistic than most that Cole Holcomb can contribute to this defense in a big way in 2024. The reviews are also very good on Payton Wilson so far. His athleticism for the position is really showing through.

Episode 5 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start pod out with the Gerry Dulac/Cam Heyward spat on X. Heyward was extremely upset that Dulac reported he did not tell the Steelers he wouldn’t be attending OTAs. This led to a very pointed tweet from Heyward towards Dulac. It’s this kind of sensitivity that make us wonder if the contract negotiations could get ugly if things don’t go Cam’s way.

Next we discuss a possible return of Ju Ju Smith Schuster. Rumors are swirling that he could be cut soon by the New England Patriots. We discuss the pros and cons of a re-signing of Smith Schuster in Pittsburgh.

Up next is a look at the Steelers 2025 free agents, and who might get an extension this summer. Pat Freiermuth seems like the most likely candidate of all. A Justin Fields extension would be risky, but could benefit the team.

We wrap up the pod trying to figure out where Cam Heyward would fall on the all time Steelers players list. He’s definitely not top 10, and probably not top 15 either. We settled on somewhere between late teens, and early twenties for Cam. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com to give us your opinion on where he should land. Episode 4 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week Zachary Smith joins us to talk Steelers. We start the pod out with the news Antonio Brown is filing for bankruptcy. His downfall seemed inevitable, but it’s still sad to watch. We have a feeling this will eventually end very ugly for AB.

Next we talk two of the Steelers biggest weaknesses heading into the season, wide receiver two, and slot corner. Zach points out that Cam Sutton has met with the team twice already. He’s an interesting candidate for the slot corner position. As far as wide receiver is concerned, Smith tells us that Diontae Johnson was never coming back to Pittsburgh after the antics from last season. He gives us some inside stuff on the wide receiver room you don’t want to miss.

We wrap the pod up discussing some potential camp battles as we head into OTAs tomorrow. Quarterback, tackle, and WR2 are just a few of the positions up for grabs in 2024.

Episode 3 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the podcast with the news that Cam Heyward will be skipping OTAs in a contract dispute with the Steelers. Heyward announced this on his podcast, and even went as far as to say “I want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, but we’ll see what happens”. This opens up the possibility of a long holdout, and even a possible trade demand.

Next it’s all about the Steelers 2024 schedule. They have one of the quirkier schedules we can ever remember. Pittsburgh does not play a division game until week 11. The entire second half of the season is brutal. The Steelers even have a Wednesday game on Christmas Day against the world champion Kansas City Chiefs. The 2024 season has a chance to go really, really badly if the Steelers are not prepared for this second half barrage.

Episode 3 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with some talk about the Steelers schedule. Some of the games have been leaked, like the Thursday and Friday night games. If the Steelers begin the season on the road as expected, the Denver Broncos are a very appealing opening game for the league.

Next we discuss the Steelers rookie mini camp. The most important news out of this weekend is Troy Fautanu starting out at right tackle. That’s good news as it appears the team intends to move Broderick Jones back to left tackle. This leads us to another conversation about who would’ve been a better second round pick, Zach Frazier or AD Mitchell? It was an interesting discussion.

Welcome to season 3 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast! In this episode we do a deep dive into what is turning into a very bad Steelers receiving group. The team signed the very mid Scotty Miller today. This does nothing to improve the offensive whatsoever. We are beginning to worry that the Steelers are satisfied with what they have.

Next we discuss the latest reports that Najee Harris asked that his 5th year option not be picked up. We have a hard time believing that the Steelers would just go along with this. Paul Zeise reported this, but Harris’ agent said it was not true.

We wrap up the pod with another report that Cole Holcomb’s recovery may not be going that well. It was even insinuated that Holcomb could miss most of the 2024 season. This is backed up by all the moves the Steelers have made at that position this offseason.

Episode 109 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out talking about some of the Najee Harris trade rumors out there. Both Miami and Dallas are rumored to be interested. It’s still a long shot anything happens, but the rumors have grown stronger lately.

Next up we take a shot at predicting the Steelers 53 man roster. It’s a good exercise to see which position groups are thin, and which are deep. The team is deep at offensive line, quarterback, and linebacker. They are thin at corner, defensive line, and wise receiver. Episode 108 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with a little Steelers related news. Bryant McFadden’s big prediction of a significant Steelers move fell flat. The fee agent market for wide receivers has pretty much dried up now. The Steelers will have to get creative to fill thier number two receiver position.

Next we have a long discussion about the Steelers declining Najee Harris’ 5th year option. This was a major surprise to most. We go over the pros and cons of this decision.

Episode 107 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week Nick Farabaugh joins us once again. The pod starts out with a review of the Steeelers 2024 draft. Nick is very high on the draft, as most are. We go pick by pick discussing each one in detail.

Next we start to discuss what comes next for the Steelers. The need for a true number two wide receiver is the most pressing issue. We go through the usual list of trade candidates. We both think Deebo Samuel is the most likely if a trade were to happen. Nick thinks the best free agent match for the team is DJ Chark, and I tend to agree with him.

The subject of nickel corner also comes up as the last pressing need. We both would be surprised if Patrick Peterson is not resigned soon. Next we give out our grades for each selection. As you might expect, the Steelers did very well in our grading system. Top marks almost all around for this draft class.

The pod wraps up with a discussion about the potential signing of Cam Sutton. Sutton was released by the Lions after a warrant for his arrest was issued in a domestic assault case. So many questions to be hashed out about the Steelers apparent interest.

Episode 103 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we start the podcast off with a review of the Steelers pre-draft press conference. Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin spoke to the media for the last time before the draft on Thursday. Tomlin insisted the team filled the team’s major holes in free agency. Dave and I strongly disagree with that statement.. Khan mentioned he was open to trading down, but “didn’t want to trade away from a good player.”

Next it’s on to our second live mock draft. This one worked out extremely well. We traded down to 28 with the Buffalo Bills and picked up pick number 60. Next we review the final names for the Steelers pre-draft visits. The big name of course is Graham Barton. Next we do a deep dive into the Steelers pre-draft visits. We now know 27 of the 30 players who have come to Pittsburgh. The list consists almost entirely of corners, tackles, wide receivers, and defensive lineman. It seems that the Steelers are going best player available at one of those positions in the first round.

Next we talk about the recent players that have been brought in for a visit. Clemson corner Nate Wiggins, and Georgia tackle Amarius Mims both were announced to be coming in for a pre draft visit. This makes these two the leaders in the clubhouse for the Steelers first round pick. We also look at the other players brought in, and what that tells about the team’s draft plans.

He turned himself into police after being on the run for weeks.

Next up is DMC’s latest mock draft. He goes with Armarius Mims as his first round selection. He then goes center, and corner with the next two picks. It’s an interesting dilemma the Steelers are in with no center on the roster. They certainly have to draft a center in the first two rounds.

Also in the news the Steelers hired defensive backs coach Anthony Midget this week.

Next we do a deep dive into the team’s center position. They seemed to have backed themselves into a corner now that all the good centers have been signed in free agency. Pittsburgh almost certainly has to draft one in the first two rounds. Not signing a veteran could come back to haunt them.

Wide reciever rumors are next topic. Lots of rumors Omar Khan is big game hunting for a replacement to Diontae Johnson. Names like Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Terry McLaurin have been tossed around.

Episode 89 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. In this episode we discuss all the Steelers moves this week. We start off with the Patrick Queen signing. This is a good move to shore up the linebacker position. Pittsburgh has also re-signed special teams ace Miles Killabrew.

Next we dive into the controversial trade of Diontea Johnson. Neither of us believe this was a good trade for the Steelers. In return for DJ, the Steelers got corner Donte Jackson from Carolina along with a pic swap. It feels like Omar Khan could have done much better in a deal for such a talented receiver.

The pod wraps up with a spirited debate over the different philosophies of Omar Khan and Kevin Colbert. Dave believes Omar Khan is more apt to make bold moves. My argument is Kevin Colbert never had to because he always built great rosters through the draft.

Episode 86 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The pod starts off with the sad news of Andy Russell passing. Dave and I go over the his career, and discuss his Hall of Fame merits.

Next it’s on to the rumor mill. The Diontea Johnson trade rumors heated up this week. We talk about Tony Pauline’s report that the Steelers are listening to offers for their star wide receiver. And then of course there is the never ending rumors about a potential trade for Justin Fields. This week Adam Schefter fanned the flames by linking him to the Steelers.

We spend some time on the NFL combine as well. We go over some of the hotter prospects at the combine. I give the list of players the Steelers met with by position. Some interesting things can be deduced by this list.

The pod wraps up with our weekly poll question. This week we asked who was a better quarterback right now, Kenny Pickett or Mac Jones. Tune in for the results. Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.

Episode 85 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with Omar Khan’s press conference at the NFL combine. Khan said he has “full faith” in Kenny Pickett heading into 2024. He also said he’d be looking to add competition. That competition could come in the form of Mason Rudolph. Khan reiterated the Steelers interest in bringing Rudolph back. Khan addressed the Broderick Jones position debate saying he would be moved back to left tackle eventually.

Next we discuss the recent players poll on working conditions. The Steelers finished bottom five for the second consecutive year. Art Rooney scored an F from the players. This is not a flattering survey for the Steelers owner.

We wrap up the pod with a game called who would you rather keep. We pick to random Steelers players and ask which would you chose if you could only keep one? It’s a fun and interesting exercise. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Email us at daver@steelersanctuary.com

Episode 84 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod out with some NFL Combine talk. Dave and I talk about whether or not players not working at the combine hurts their draft stock. We also have a conversation about quarterback Drake Maye. Merril Hodge was quoted as saying he wouldn’t take Maye in the first round. If Maye should fall to 20 should the Steelers take him?

Next, we discuss the recent comments on Twitter by cam Heyward. Is the Steelers offensive tackle being a little too sensitive about what people say about him? Is he using this for motivation, or is he just too sensitive about what people say about him?

The topic of the Steelers offensive line is next. Dave and I try to figure out how they will construct the 2024 unit. What combination of free agents and draft picks will be use to build the next Steelers offensive line?

The pod wraps up with our weekly poll question. This week we asked who would you rather the Steelers quarterback be in 2024, Justin Fields or Geno Smith? The poll responses were a little surprising. Justin Fields won by a whopping 80 to 20%. We think the Steelers fans may be overlooking how good Geno Smith really is. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your pods. Episode 75 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This is an emergency podcast to discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers announcing thier new offensive coordinator Arthur Smtih.

DMC gets the floors first. He is extremely unhappy with the hire. Dave makes the point that we were led to believe that the Steelers were going to hire a young, innovative person for the job. What we got was the exact opposite.

I’m a little less concerned. This is a play caller who can run the type of offense Mike Tomlin wants. They will be a run first, play action offense. It will be conservative, and boring but much more cohesive than what Matt Canada could do. We go over all the other pros and cons associated with hiring Smith as well.

W also spend some time talking about other hires around the league. Quarterback caoch Mike Sullivan has two interviews lined up for OC jobs with the Raiders and Saints. We are astounded that Bill Belichick has not gotten a job yet. Same goes for Mike Vrabel.

Episode 64 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This is a strange feeling doing a podcast after a Steelers blowout. The team had an offensive explosion like we haven’t seen in years. George Pickens went off for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. While Mason Rudolph had an incredible game with 290 yards and 2 touchdowns.

That performance leads us to our next topic, who should start the next game Mason Rudolph or Kenny Pickett? Mike Tomlin said in his weekly press conference that Rudolph is the starter as of now, but they will monitor Pickett in practice during the week. This bears watching as the week goes by.

Episode 59 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Apologies for a truncated podcast, but Ron Lippock had a work emergency. Before he left we had a really good conversation about the future of this franchise. We discussed what happens next with Mike Tomlin, and Kenny Pickett going forward.

Ron gives us some great perspective of what’s going on with the Steelers. His many interviews with current and former players give us insight into what’s going wrong with this football team. His interview with former linebacker Joe Schobert is particularly eye opening, if you haven't read it yet, you definitely should.

We spend a good amount of time on the future of Mike Tomlin with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ron is completely done, and thinks a change is necessary. I’m not quite there yet, but I’m close. I want to see one more year with a competent offensive coordinator.

We wrap up the pod discussing the quarterback situation on this team. On this topic we are in agreement that Kenny Pickett is not the answer. The Steelers need to go get a veteran quarterback to salvage what’s left of TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cam Heyward’s primes.

Episode t8 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. In this episode we discuss Mike Tomlin taking serious heat from the local media after the embarrassing loss to the Cardinals. More players have come out and admitted they took that team lightly. DMC and I wonder if a loss to the Patriots could send this team into such a spiral that the Steelers might consider a change at coach after the season.

Speaking of the Patriots we preview Thursday’s crucial game. The injury report for the Steelers is not encouraging. The Steelers will be without Kenny Pickett, and possibly Elandon Roberts and Isaac Seumalo. Even Najee Harris now missed Tuesday’s practice making him questionable for the game.

We fear this team could be in for their second straight major upset. New England’s defense is third best versus the run. This team will struggle mightily to score points. Meanwhile the strength of the Patriots offense is their tight ends. They will be sure to attack Pittsburgh’s beat up inside linebackers.

Episode 48 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with a look at some Steelers new. Among the news of the week is DJ getting fined, Martavis Bryant back in the NFL, and Josh Dobbs has a game.

Next it’s a look at the AFC playoff picture. All four AFC North teams are currently in the playoffs. The Steelers would face the Dolphins in Miami if the season were to end today. The race for the playoffs in the AFC is sure to be exciting.

The podcast wraps up with an interesting look at where Kenny Pickett stands versus the rest of the quarterbacks in the league. We go team by team to determine if Pickett would start over the incumbent quarterback. It’s an eye opening exercise.

Episode 47 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast out. We start the pod with the recent George Pickens drama. Pickens has wiped his social media clean of anything Steelers related. Diva receivers are all too common in Pittsburgh.

Next we discuss the changes the team made heading into the game versus the Titans. Chuks Okorafor was benched for some unknown comments he made after last weeks loss. If that weren’t enough, Matt Canada was moved from the booth to the field. Both moves seemed to benefit the Steelers offense.

The pod wraps up with a deeper look into the 20-16 win. Dave and I give out grades for each position group. We finish off with our weekly segment LEGENDARY NFL PICKS. Subscribe to the pod, rate and review. Email the show at daver@steelersancruary.com

Episode 46 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with the Steelers disappointing trade deadline. It sounded like they were close on Bears corner Jaylon Johnson. From what we have heard, the Bears asking price was too steep for more than just the Steelers. Several teams balked on the second round pick that Chicago was asking for.

Next we preview the Thursday night game versus the Titans. Pittsburgh will have Kenny Pickett, and possibly Cam Heyward for the game. The Titans had Deandre Hopkins pop up on the injury report today. That would be a huge loss for a team starting a rookie quarterback on a short week.

Finally we take a look at the Steelers next four games. It is a crucial stretch because after it they could have both Pat Freiermuth, and Minkah Fitzpatrick back for the stretch run. Pittsburgh will have to go two and two in those four games if they want to make the postseason.

Next we spend some time on the Tomlin press conference. Tomlin finally admitted Joey Porter Jr will be starting at corner. He also took a shot at Kenny Pickett without actually mentioning his name.

After reviewing the Jags game, the pod wraps up with some trade deadline talk. Deandre Hopkins is a name to watch. Subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Stitcher, or wherever you get your pods.

Episode 43 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with all the injuries at corner. Luq Barcoo and Darius Rush both got first team reps because of the injuries to the starters. Who plays corner for the Steelers on Sunday is a mystery.

Next Dave and I have a long discussion about George Pickens. His on the field lack of discipline, combined with his talking off the field has us worried. Is he headed down the same path of AB, Martavis Bryant, and Chase Claypool?

We delve into more trade deadline talk next. Will the Steelers add much needed corner depth? Possibly a receiver or tight end? We think the team will be busy in the coming days.

Some new names on this list that are very concerning. Diontae Johnson, and Larry Ogunjobi were out, while Joey Porter Jr was limited.

Next it’s trade deadline talk. The Steelers really need another corner. Nick thinks Patrick Surtain is unlikely. He does mention some other lesser names. Wide receiver is also a possibility for the Steelers.

Episode 42 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The podcast starts with us discussing what has to be the best quarter of football this team has played in years. The fourth quarter against Los Angeles Rams was quite incredible.

The offense may have just taken a giant step forward. Kenny Pickett finished the game 7 for 7, with 138 yards. His connection with George Pickens has become a dangerous combination.

The defense played well also on Sunday. The corner position is still a major weakness on this team however. We think the Steelers need to make a move to shore up this position.

Episode 40 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. We start the pod with a hard look at Pat Meyer. Some of the offensive line that left are thriving, while the players that remain continue to struggle. We think it’s time Meyer takes some heat.

It’s a bye week so we took the time to take a look at the Steelers 2024 salary cap situation. At first glance it’s not very pretty. Dave and I go through a list of potential cap casualties for next off-season.

We also take a look at the team’s upcoming free agents. It’s not a very impressive list. We go player by player trying to decide which, if any, the Steelers might want back.

Next it’s on to Mike Tomlin’s press conference. Tomlin was very chippy in this presser. The pressure may be getting to him. Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Email the show at steelersanctuary.com

Episode 39 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The pod starts with us making peace with the fact that Matt Canada will be the Steelers OC for the remainder of the season. That doesn’t stop us from speculating who might replace him in 2024.

Next we do a segment called “most impressive/most disappointing” Steelers so far this season. As you ca imagine, the most disappointing came quite easy. Most impressive was easier than you might think.

We move on to some players who might be available at the trade deadline. Dave and I debate whether or not Patrick Surtain would be worth the price it would take to pry him away from Denver. A good debate followed. The pod wraps up with our weekly segment LEGENDARY NFL PICKS.

Episode 38 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. Today Ron Lippock of Steelers Takeaways joins us once again to talk Steelers.

The pod starts with a discussion about Matt Canada and this offense. We bring up the idea of whether or not this is actually what Mike Tomlin wants, rather than what Canada wou;d actually be calling. We also give one last thought on audible gate.

Next it’s on to the defense. The linebackers have improved, but the secondary is really holding this defense back. Will the Steelers go out and get a corner before the deadline? I think they just might.

Episode 37 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we discuss the Steelers improbable win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The pod starts with a discussion on the the now infamous video of Matt Canada, and his expressionless face after the game winning touchdown. Despite lots of speculation, we believe there are logical reasons why Canada did not react right away.

Next it’s time to get into the still sputtering Steelers offense. There were some signs of life however. Pickett looked a lot more comfortable in the second half. George Pickens is a star in the making, and carried this team to victory. Jaylen Warren is slowly but surely becoming RB1 on this team.

Defensively the team started out slow. They did warm up in the second half before taking over the game in the 4th quarter. This despite having the worst pair of corners in the league. So bad in fact, they played Joey Porter Jr the entire second half even though they have been telling us he’s not ready for weeks.

Episode 36 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. In this episode we get you ready for what could be a long day on Sunday.

The pod starts by going over the Mike Tomlin press conference from Tuesday. This may have been Mike Tomlin’s worst press conference as Steelers head coach. His definition of making changes was very weak. As was his explanation for the failed 4th down call that ultimately cost them any hope of winning against Houston.

Next we preview the game versus the Ravens coming up on Sunday. We wish we could put a positive spin on the Steelers chances, but we just couldn’t. This game has a chance to get very much out of hand for Pittsburgh.

Epsidoe 35 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off one of their worst defeats in Mike Tomlin’s coaching career getting blown out by the Texans 30-6. Lots to talk about coming off this epic defeat.

We start with the coaching. Mike Tomlin and company got thoroughly out-coached by rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans. The Texans offensive game plan was an absolute master class. It rendered the Steelers defense helpless.

Next we take on the players. Plenty of bad play on both sides of the ball. Kenny Pickett was not good, before succumbing to a knee injury late in the third quarter. The offensive line did him no favors. On defense, both corners were torched on several occasions. The Steelers defesne also struggled to stop the run. This was as complete a team loss as possible.

At the end of the pod we male a bold prediction on what we think the Steelers might do in the coming weeks. Tune in to find out what it is. Subscribe to the pod wherever you get your podcasts. Email the show at daver@steelersanctuary.com.

Episode 33 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. This week we review the Steelers victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The podcast starts with the offense. This was a much better performance than we have seen all season. After a rough start, Kenny Pickett settled down to have his best game of the year. There is still quite a bit of concern over the offensive line however. This unit still did not play well on Sunday.

Flipping over to the defense, it was another dominant performance by TJ Watt. His 2 sacks put him back on top of the league in that category. Despite three interceptions, the corners did not play very well. Devante Adams ended up having a huge night.

The pod finishes up with an early look at the AFC playoff contenders. We discuss where the Steelers fit into that group.

Episode 31 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. In this episode we review the Steelers win over the Browns Monday night. The pod starts with TJ Watt’s remarkable performance. His touchdown in the 4th quarter sealed the victory. We discuss how flawed and biased PFF is for rating Myles Garret’s performance higher.

Next we proceed to putting this offense on blast. Another poor performance by this unit has us very concerned. Kenny Pickett’s play also has us very concerned. It’s time to start worrying that he’s not the guy to lead this franchise back to the playoffs.

We wrap up the pod questioning this team’s tackling and secondary. Even with a win, the Steelers leave us underwhelmed.

Episode 29 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out. It’s time for Dave and I to give our thoughts on what was one of the ugliest losses in the Mike Tomlin era. I give my reasons why I believe the Steelers have a plan that is destined to fail this season.

We start with the poor performance of both lines. The bullies became the bullied on Sunday as both lines were dominated. The Steelers will never be able to “impose their will” when they lose in the trenches this badly.

Next we question both the quarterback, and coaching situations in Pittsburgh. Both failed miserably against the 49ers. The linebackers and secondary weren’t spared for their bad performances either.

Next it’s a position by position look at all the players who made it through the finals cuts.  Surprises like Dylan Cook making the team, and Zach Gentry not making it are among the subjects we hit.

DMC was at Acrisure Stadium to give us a first hand account of the game.  Once again the Steelers offense was on point.  Almost all the big weapons shined, including Jaylen Warren and his 65 yard touchdown run.

The defense played well also on Saturday.  Nick Herbig stood out with another sack, and forced fumble.  He seems to be the real deal.  Another rookie, corner Joey Porter Jr. Got his first interception.  The 2023 draft class continues to shine this preseason.

The defense was almost as impressive.  Nick Herbig showed out with two sacks.  The defensive line looks as deep as ever with good play from Isaiahh Loudermilk, and DeMarvin Leal.  Kwon Alexander looks every bit the part of a Steelers linebacker.

Episode 57 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out!  In this pod we take a long hard look at the future of this franchise.  With this team likely missing the playoffs, we discuss what it would take for the Steelers to reopen their Super Bowl window.

It starts with the defense.  This unit needs a major overhaul.  Pittsburgh will be using several assets to fix this side of the ball.

On offense, it starts with Kenny Pickett.  Is he good enough to compete with the likes of Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, or Patrick Mahomes?  We think not, making this team’s margin for error extremely small.  It’s a tough road for this team to once again be a Super Bowl contender.

We discuss this team’s shortcomings on defense, particularly along the defensive line. The Ravens bullied there way to victory on Sunday.

Next we talk about the Kenny Pickett injury, and who should start at quarterback vs the Panthers.  YOLO Mitch Trubisky gets my vote, Tony would like to see Mason.

The pod wraps up with some draft talk, and Steelers needs as we look ahead to 2023.  Some really good stuff you don’t want to miss.

Episode 55 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out!  This is a rapid reaction podcast to the Steelers disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens

We start with the offense and Mitch Trubisky’s 3 interception performance.  This is the big reason to point to when assigning blame.  Turnovers will always be a key turning point in any game.

The defense has to shoulder its share some of the blame as well.  You can not let a 3rd string quarterback close out a win in your building.

Special teams had its gaffe as well not to be outdone.  The blocked field goal they allowed proved to be the difference in the game.  In the end, it was a total team loss.

Episode 53 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  Ron Lippock from Steelers Takeaways joins us to talk Steelers.  We start the pod out going over the Mike Tomlin press conference.  One of the big things to come out of that is the fact that both Chris Boswell and William Jackson are possibilities for Sundays game.

We address Tomlin’s comments about George Pickens, and the fact that he seems unconcerned about the whole thing.  I am not so use this won’t become a bigger issue

Next we begin previewing the Ravens game this week,  This is a huge game with actual playoff implications.

Episode 52 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out!  My cohost David Corob returns after a two week absence.  We waste no time reviewing the Steelers win over the Atlanta Falcons.

We start with the offense and it’s greatly improved run game.  Najee Harris and the Steelers offensive line have greatly improved since the bye.

Next I go into my concerns over rookie George Pickens.  The rookie receiver seems to be becoming an issue after several antics for not getting enough targets today.  I openly wonder if he’s not already a problem diva receiver.

We wrap up the pod discussing the Steelers remaining schedule.  Do the Steelers have a shot at the playoffs?  They seemingly will finish over .500 at the very least with this soft schedule ahead of them.

We start with the offense, and the improving run game. The Steelers run blocking was very impressive.  Kenny Pickett continues to improve as well.  We take on the topic of Diontae Johnson and his struggles as well.

Next it’s the defense and it’s up and down performance.  Alex Highsmith had a terrific end of the game.  The corners continue to be the weakness of this team however.

Next it’s a review of the Mike Tomlin press conference.  The big story here is Tomlin being questioned about the predictability of this team on both sides of the ball.  This discussion leads us both to question if Mike Tomlin’s style still works in the current state of the NFL.

Finally we take a look at Luke Easterling’s latest two round mock draft.  He had some interesting selections for the Steelers.  Ron and I list what we think are the biggest positional needs going into the 2023 draft.

Episode 48 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  This is a rapid reaction to the Steelers loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.  We review the all the good, bad, and ugly from this game.

On offense there was a fast start, and a very slow finish.  Dave and I discuss where this offense is after 10 weeks, and it’s not good.

The defense had its ups and downs on Sunday.  We want to praise the defense for a pretty good performance, but after giving up 37 points it’s not easy to do so,

As per usual the coaching is very suspect on this team.  It’s another week of wondering how Matt Canada is still employed.

Episode 47 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out!  In this episode we review the Steelers victory over the New Orleans Saints.

We start with the Steelers much improved offense.  Najee Harris had 99 yards rushing, and the team had over 200 yards total on the ground. The offense put forth its best showing of the season overall.

Next we turn to the defense and the return of TJ Watt.  Pittsburgh held the Saints to 10 points on the day.  The defense was excellent all game.

One factor that bothers us is how beat up an already bad Saints team was.  How much can we take from this game against such an inferior team?

Finally we are joined by Yinzer Dave as he predicts the Steelers will go 8-1 the rest of the season.  I’m not as optimistic,  going 6-3 is the best case scenario for me.  Both of us have the team ruining its draft position with a decent run.

We look forward to the second half of the season.  Could this team go on a run with such a weak schedule remaining?  With the return of TJWatt, Demontae Kazee, and the addition of William Jackson III, the defense may carry them to a winning record in the last nine games.

We hit on the news that Calvin Austin is likely done for the season, and TJ Watt will miss another week.  We finish up with the Tomlin press conference pointing out he is still in denial over the offenses struggles.

Tony and I spend some time on Kenny Pickett.  The both of us agree it’s very difficult to evaluate a quarterback in such a poorly conceived offense.  Until Matt Canada is gone, the Steelers will not know what they have in Pickett

Episode 36 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.  Finally,  a Steelers win to talk about.  We credit Mike Tomlin with his best coaching performance of the year.  There were several players on defense that needed mentioning.  Devin Bush mad Terrell Edmunds played their best games of the season.

The offense on the other hand, still seems broken.  Lots to discuss once again with the Matt Canada led offense.  This team has scored 20 points or less in all but one game this season.

Episode 27 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is out.   Dave and I do not hold back on another terrible Steelers performance.

We start off with this anemic offense.  It’s seems clear to everyone but the Steelers that significant changes are needed.  Starting at quarterback, and finishing at coordinator this was truly a team effort of futility.

Unfortunately the defense wasn’t much better.  The Steelers porous run defense was exploited by the Browns high powered run game.  The secondary is now showing it’s flaws as well.  This clearly is not the same unit without TJ Watt in the lineup.

We give the coaching staff there share of criticism as well. Tomlin and his crew had their share of gaffes during this game.

Episode 21 of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast is all about week one for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It was a thrilling 23-20 overtime win over the rival Bengals.

Next, Dave and I go over the players to watch in the final preseason game.  We each give roughly six players who are fighting for their roster spot as the preseason winds down.

Quarterbacks again take center stage.  We both believe if Kenny Pickett can put together a third straight impressive performance, he should be named the starting quarterback.  Our prediction that Mason Rudolph remains, and this game will be a final showcase.

Episode 15 is out, and it’s a preseason game two review.  There was a lot not to like this week.  This game was almost the complete opposite of last week’s win over Seattle.

We start with another impressive performance by all three quarterbacks.  Kenny Pickett once again shined, this time with the starters.  His play has been so good, it has us wondering if he might supplant Mitch Trubisky as the starting quarterback for this team.

Next it’s time to really be concerned about this offensive line.  This week it’s my turn to go on a rant.  Kendrick Green is the subject this time as his performance Saturday night makes him almost unplayable in my eyes.  The rest of the line wasn’t much better either.  The Steelers might have to make a drastic move with this group.

Finally we discuss the improved defensive performance, particularly against the run.  Even Devin Bush had a decent game for the Steelers defense.  We wrap up the pod by singing the praises of the special teams.  This may be the best unit they have had in years.

Following that, it’s time to do a training camp update. Unfortunately there are several Steelers struggling, particularly on offense.  David and I also spend a good deal of time on the quarterback situation.

We finish the pod with the train wreck that Is the Cleveland Browns.  Not only are they dealing with the Deshaun Watson situation, but now Kareem Hunt is demanding a trade as well.

In this episode of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast my cohost David Corob was unavailable due prior commitments.  We do however have a very special guest as Tony Serino (@steelercountry) joins us to talk Steelers training camp.  Tony has been at camp all week and brings us a first hand view of the action.

Tony and I take on each position group, but to no one’s surprise quarterback takes center stage.  Tony breaks the bad news that Mason Rudolph is indeed the best qb in camp so far, and how Kenny Pickett is struggling mightily.

We also hit on the impressive camp that George Pickens is having.  As well as the concern along the offensive and defensive lines.

Join us for some great Steelers conversation.

In the second half of the pod we give our Steelers training camp preview.  We go over likely starters, possible camp battles, and some sleepers to keep an eye on.  Don’t miss this exciting episode of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast.

In this episode of the Steelers Sanctuary Podcast we discuss the Steelers quarterback situation.. David and I debate whether or not this team will ever be good enough to compete for a championship with either Mitch Trubisky or Kenny Pickett in a loaded AFC.  Or are they destined to be a fringe playoff team for the foreseeable future.

Our “Poni of the week” award goes to Le’Veon Bell for taking so long to finally realize his mistake of leaving Pittsburgh.

Also in this podcast we go over the very unpopular new Acrisurse stadium name.  Finally, we debate whether or not it’s a good idea for Cam Heyward to have a podcast while he is still playing for the Steelers.

Enjoy the pod!

Episode 7 is in the books, and this week it’s all about the upcoming battles that loom ahead for the Steelers in training camp. We review all the major position competitions including starting defensive end now that Stephon Tuitt has retired,  We discuss who will be the backup running back, who will win the third receiver spot, and how the secondary will shake out.  Most importantly of all, Dave and I hash out the quarterback position.  We go over why Kenny Pickett still running third in the pecking order, and should that be a concern.

In the second half of the pod we announce a brand new segment.  We hand out our first ever “Poni Award” winner. This award goes to the most foolish thing that happens in the Steelers universe for the current week.  This award is inspired by Andrew Fillipponi’s silly hot takes!  This week’s winner is PFF for their horrendous article where they rank all the head coaches in the NFL..  Mike Tomlin somehow ends up 13th overall behind some names you will not believe.  Listen in to find out more, rate and review.

Big news this week as we learn that Stephon Tuitt announced his retirement.  So big in fact, we had to spend almost an entire podcast on it.  We start out by discussing the impact his loss will have on the defensive line, and the entire defense in general.

David does a deep dive on some possible free agents the Steelers could sign to replace Tuitt on the roster.  Names like Ndamukong Suh, Sheldon Richardson are just a few names we mention.

Next, we discuss a few trade options new general manager Omar Khan might consider.  Old friend Javon Hargrave is tops on our list.  We also mention the possibility of a possible Watt family reunion in Pittsburgh.

We wrap up the pod with the news Diontae Johnson showed up for OTAs this week.  Along with the Steelers bringing back Tuzar Skipper to add depth to the outside linebacker position.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired a new general manager for the first time in over twenty years, and we are all over it in this episode. Omar Khan takes over the reigns of the Steelers organization in what was a pretty huge surprise for most of us.  We go over all the new front office hires like David Weidl, Sheldon White, and the promotion of Dan Colbert.

David and I go over our concerns with the structure of the new Steelers front office.  We debate who is actually calling the shots, and how much power Mike Tomlin now has over the organization.  We also discuss why Brandon Hunt was completely shut out of this new front office.

The podcast wraps up with  Omar Khan’s first big test as general manager in the contract status of wide receiver Diontae Johnson.  Johnson has officially skipped OTAs presumably because of his desire for a new deal.  We go over all the top paid receivers to see where Diontae should fall in terms of money, as well as comparing him statistically to other top receivers in the league.

Give us a listen, rate, and review!  Hope you enjoy!!

We spend some time talking about Todd McShay’s 2023 mock draft where he has five quarterbacks going in the top ten.  We debate whether or not the Steelers should have waited until next year to draft their next quarterback.
