You can't burn all the boats when you're a mother.
But for so many years, I lived in that mindset. Today I’m going to share exactly what this metaphor means and why it can be more challenging to adopt as a mother and entrepreneur.
People say you have to be ALL IN on an idea - there’s no turning back. But there’s such a delicate balance between ambition, devotion, and motherhood. Sometimes it makes sense to safely retreat to another boat in the harbor rather than pursuing and persevering towards one thing.
Today I’m sharing how I’m processing this metaphor, especially as it relates to MotherLoad and the $100K in 100 Days challenge, and why I am currently in a season of not feeling comfortable or motivated to burn boats. I would like to have several boats in the harbor! In this episode you’ll hear about:

It’s okay to not love aspects of motherhood.
Even the parts that you’re “supposed” to love – the baby years, for instance. Some of us had glorious experiences when our children were born. Others suffered postpartum depression, breastfeeding difficulties, or traumatic childbirths.
There’s pressure for us to say to one another, you’re going to miss it, or, you can’t get this time back, but I think it’s essential to talk about the light AND the shadows – which brings me to today’s guest, Meghan Scott Molin, a mother and author (whose career has also featured equestrianism, architecture, and photography!).
Here, we talk in detail about Meghan’s traumatic entrance into motherhood – which involved nearly losing her son – and how fixating on wanting a different journey did her no good. She had to accept that this was her reality in order to get where she is today – loving her career and her life as a mom. In this episode you’ll hear about:

It’s finally spring! And for me, that means getting back into alignment.
This winter, there were lots of gray days. There was a lot of snow and a lot of illness. (In fact, I’m fighting off illness as I record this!) In the new season, I want to make some shifts to feel better again.
When things aren’t in alignment, I don’t feel as energized. I don’t feel as social. I don’t feel as connected to RT or as patient with my kids. So, in this mini-episode, I’m looking at places to make these shifts, paying close attention to physical health, time blocking, and money.
These things are all connected. Physical health impacts mental health, which not only affects our productivity, but also how we show up in our lives. I hope this helps you look at your own alignment as we head into this new season.

Today I am celebrating the MotherLoad Podcast’s 50th episode! To produce a consistent, high-quality podcast is HARD.
I’ve come to learn that it’s rare people get this far and are as consistent as I’ve been with a podcast. I want to celebrate this milestone by reviewing what I’ve learned – about podcasting, the motherload, and myself – since launching seven months ago.
Do you love your life right now? Ultimately that’s the core question I’m trying to get at with MotherLoad: to help mothers love their lives. The way I’m doing it is by being real and honest, which, I’ve learned, is what people want.
I love this podcast, this medium, speaking into this microphone, and the feedback I get from listeners. I feel so called to do this work, and more excited about this mission than I’ve ever been. Thank you for being here. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Fast-forward to twenty years from now. Imagine you have the chance to go back in time to RIGHT NOW.
What would you come back to do over? Would you focus your time on rushing your kids to school so you can build your business? Or would you take a moment and appreciate them at this age right now? It’s one of the questions our guest Allie Bjerk proposes in today’s episode.
Allie is an expert on passive income and has built a multiple 7-figure business – all while being a mother of three and maintaining “white space” for time with family. So many people think you need a huge sum of money before passive income investments kick back, but Allie is proof it can start with one small thing at a time.
Allie and I talk in-depth about balancing the motherload with a successful business, which at times, means being BRUTAL about how we spend our time in terms of return on investment – and remembering what’s ACTUALLY most precious at this moment. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Do mothers feel safe to express their mental load?
The reason I ask is that I’d venture that most of us DON’T feel safe expressing our mental loads to the people closest to us.
When I say “feel safe,” what I mean is that mothers feel like they can be HONEST with their partners, family members or on social media without being gaslighted, questioned, disagreed with, or made to feel stupid for speaking their truth.
Many of us are afraid to say this is hard due to getting pushback or comments like well, you chose this. You chose to have kids. You chose this partner. But just because we chose something, doesn’t mean it’s not hard.
So that’s today’s episode – do you feel safe expressing your truth? If not, why? What is at the root of your hesitation? In this episode you’ll hear about:

Do you regularly “get quiet” to figure out your next step?
I’m always surprised how many people don’t do this and instead go outward, getting advice from others and trying to solve all their problems externally. In my opinion, there are some things you’re only going to solve by going within.
In those moments of panic or defeat, it takes resilience to go within and trust that this setback doesn’t have to mean anything about us. This is a circumstance we’re in, but there IS a way forward. This is one of the big subjects in today’s episode with Emily Potter, a functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner, entrepreneur, and mother of two.
Listen in as we discuss this and other major topics regarding the motherload, including taking care of ourselves, pivoting in hard times, and modeling the behavior we want to see in our kids. In this episode you’ll hear about:
Resources & LinksBe sure to check out Emily’s businesses and projects including NourishMint Wellness (both its Instagram and website) and her awesome project with Dr. Aluson Bonville called the Ignite Life Project (its Instagram and website), a three-month program for women struggling with burnout.

My goal this spring is to make 100K in 100 days.
To be honest, I feel vulnerable talking about it. I’ve run successful businesses in which a thousand dollars a day was doable, but my life was different then. To do it with something I only recently started monetizing without a team feels intimidating.
Money is a big deal to the motherload. The proof? The responses I received on my social media poll regarding the role money plays in the weight mothers carry. One hundred percent of people said it was a huge factor.
I encourage you to join our challenge, regardless of whether or not you’re a mother or entrepreneur. My guess is that at least 95 percent of us have some negativity in our relationships with money. My goal? To become more intimate and find peace in my OWN relationship with it – and to encourage others to do the same. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Do you ever have a hard time only MEETING expectations instead of exceeding them?
I’m guilty of it, and I’m sure many listeners are, too. It’s a classic overachiever trait that hits on an important topic in today’s conversation with Melissa Henault: how are you spending your time? Would this energy EXCEEDING expectations at work be better directed somewhere else?
Melissa is a LinkedIn expert, host of the podcast Burnout to All Out, and mom of 3. In this episode, we discuss how overachievement played out in her corporate career and led to burnout – which, in turn, led her to starting her own thing.
Melissa talks about running her seven-figure business while remaining a present and devoted mom, and about mindfully spending money, which allows her to stay in her zone of genius and grow a team that helps her company thrive.

Childhood trauma can really impact how we show up as mothers.
Even if you’ve done a lot of work on it, the memory and wound is there. Part of the motherload includes combating these unconscious behaviors, patterns, and beliefs that play out in our lives — some of which we’re aware of, some not.
Today I’m with my friend Jaymie Gerena, a transformational strategist, master NLP practitioner, and mother of three children. She’s a survivor of child abuse and sexual and physical abuse and has been featured in many publications for her work helping women heal trauma and grow soul-aligned businesses.
In this episode, Jaymie and I discuss finding identity after abuse – for her it involved consciously approaching life and motherhood with a sense of building safety instead of hypervigilance – and approaching controversial topics within our families.
This conversation is so important because when we’re rooted in our identities as mothers, it’s easier to hold space for uncomfortable conversations and be confident in our beliefs – which consequently makes us better versions of ourselves, too. In this episode you’ll hear about:

I feel distracted. Everything feels rushed. There’s never enough time to get everything done.I hear this from moms all the time. And of course, these points are valid. But are there ways we can better manage our time so it’s more structured? So we’re not moving between every section of our day feeling like the thing we transitioned out of didn’t get done well?
In today’s episode, I want to focus on two ideas: transitions and context switching. I get that some distractions are unavoidable, but I believe there are things we can do to make this better. Losing time to context switching or rushing between transitions only makes the motherload feel even heavier.

Does your partner know your big vision? Do your kids? Do your mentors?
Today I’m with my friend Jenna Klopfenstein, who for years checked ALL the boxes of adult achievement: wonderful family, a great job, a beautiful home, but something was missing. In 2022, she left her job, and today, she’s going all-in on her entrepreneurial endeavors, starting with organizing a major event this spring, Next Level You Live.
If you know my story, then you know I hit rock bottom to get where I am today – but in today’s conversation, we discuss how you don’t NEED to hit rock bottom before making a big change.
The other big topic in today’s episode? OPEN CONVERSATION with both partners and kids, which Jenna says has been key in her listening to this inner voice and going from a “risk-averse” person to embracing the wild discomfort being bold in search for something better. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Would you feel like your motherload was lighter if you had more money?
I asked this question recently on social media and got more engagement on it than anything I’ve shared in quite awhile.
I think it’s an important question because, as high-achieving mothers, we’re often measuring the impact work has on mothering, and for a lot of us, money is at the core of that relationship. Our own family is reliant on me making money. Yes, I love to work, but I also NEED that money. That’s part of our lifestyle.
Things get complicated when we start looking at the amount of time it takes us to make money. Is your answer different if time DOESN’T factor so tightly into the equation? Where do you fall on the spectrum? In this episode you’ll hear about:

One of my personal goals is to help women alchemize what’s inside of them and turn it into magic and creativity.
It’s the idea behind a new business I’m co-building – Inner Alchemy – with my friend Rachel Pastor. The intent of the company is to demystify microdosing and plant medicine and educate people on how to use it, with a combination of inner work to live the lives they’ve always dreamt of.
Rachel has an amazing story of overcoming drug addiction and finding herself again, which we discuss in this episode, in addition to the importance of self-worth; the lens of motherhood; and the effects of microdosing, which has been known to help with anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
It’s important to note we live in Colorado where microdosing has been decriminalized. We are not doctors, but we can speak from our own experiences. Our goal? To help people take agency over their lives, whether that be through inner work or through microdosing.

What do you want out of life? How do you want to live, feel, and be each day?
This episode is about core values, which I think is such a fundamental part of inner work. Defining our core values helps us know ourselves better, and consequently, approach and manage our mental load.
Until 2020, my “core values” had been more surface level and performative, matching my business purpose or what I wanted to portray externally. They aren’t THAT different from the ones I have today, but they were more outwardly focused.
Ultimately, the purpose of creating this list is to give you an anchoring into what’s most important to you. Then, when you’re looking at the big decisions in your life, you have a rubric that will help you make the decisions that keep you in alignment. In this episode you’ll hear about:

In today’s episode, we’re talking about sex.
I’m with my friend, Stephanie Rae Johnson, an embodiment coach and somatic experiencing practitioner who’s also the single mother of two pre-teen boys. We met at the retreat center lobby in Peru, right after I’d done Ayahuasca for the first time, and I’ve been following her ever since.
I feel like I’m pretty in touch with my sexuality, but even I know sometimes these ideas can feel confronting, and I have to let go of my cognitive brain to let them in. One thing we talk about in today’s episode that feels extremely manageable: How can you add one percent more pleasure throughout your day?Our conversation covers all things embodiment, from sensuality and sexuality, to their hindrances, like shame and trauma. I think there’s a narration that sex isn’t as good after motherhood, which is a lie.
The truth? It’s just different. Our bodies are different, but WE are different, too. In this episode you’ll hear about:

This January, I took time to think about the podcast – to record solo episodes, quality interviews, and to pour my energy into the programming component of MotherLoad.
My main love is the podcast. I love the interviews we get to do here. I love the conversations we’ve been having. My goal, every episode, is to put words to a feeling other moms might have had, and to be real about the things I never heard people talk about when I first became a mom.
But I’ve been thinking: what kinds of programs might compliment it? I’m not a parenting expert – by nature, I’m a growth and performance coach. I like helping people feel better and improve their lives. I’ve been this way ever since I was a teenager, browsing the self-help books at Barnes & Noble.
Today, I’m breaking down the new facets of the MotherLoad Company, but I also want to thank you for being a listener and being part of this amazing community. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Today's mini episode is about a huge topic: scarcity. RT and I have talked a lot about our philosophy regarding gift-giving during the holidays. Gifts on Christmas morning, writing a long letter to Santa – how do we want to intentionally bring those things into our family? Or not?
Last year, we went on a trip, and this year, we’re doing it again. We told our kids this is our family Christmas present. When we return home on Christmas day, each will have one thing from Santa under the tree.
But recently I’ve been second-guessing myself because of some core memories that popped up from my childhood. Am I going to create scarcity in my children if they don’t wake up on Christmas morning to a bunch of presents under the tree?
My gut says no. But all this is to say, gift-giving during the holidays is a big part of the mental load. How much is too much? Will an experience mean more than getting something tangible? Is there any way to know which of these decisions is best?

Has becoming a mother ever made your role at work feel irrelevant? Have you ever sat at your desk, and asked yourself, WHY? What is the point of this?
In the millennial generation, I think there’s this huge existential question about motherhood. As kids, ambition was baked into us – with nothing about how our ambitions are aligned with our identities and values.
This episode features Part 2 of my conversation with Amber Lilyestrom – a business mentor, branding expert, author, speaker, and mom to two miracle babies. She is also my personal mentor and full of wisdom and honesty about her big and bittersweet moments in motherhood and business. (Check out Part 1 of our conversation, too!)
The buzzword in today’s episode: HONESTY. As Amber points out, it takes so much courage to be honest about what you desire and what you want to create for your life. In this episode you’ll hear about:

Can we really do it all?I’ve thought a lot about this motherload question. It’s a big, existential question – but it can also feel like a loaded question. Sometimes it seems to imply that, to do it all, you have to do it ALL, with no help from anyone else.
And if that’s the question – can you do it all with no help – I think the answer is no.
But what if we took a step back and looked at that question as a broader life design question. Is it possible to love your life fully? Is it possible for you to have everything you want: the career; the partnership; the relationship with your children?
If that’s what that means, then I think the answer is yes. I do think it’s possible.

Some of the greatest things we are meant to do in life will happen through some kicking, screaming, and resisting.
But at the end of the day, when we surrender to it, it feels like a homecoming.
This nugget of wisdom is courtesy of Amber Lilyestrom – my personal mentor who has seen me through some of my major motherhood transitions. As such, I’ve been looking forward to this episode for a really long time.
Amber is a business mentor, branding expert, author, speaker, and mom to two miracle babies. I found her through a podcast interview she did about motherhood, entrepreneurship, and ambition that really spoke to me.
We had such an amazing conversation that we had to split it into two episodes! In this segment (Part 1), Amber and I delve into the importance of trusting the wisdom of our bodies; if we listen, they’ll tell us when to pause, when to move forward, and more importantly, how to move forward in our career and motherhood journeys.

We had a rough go with the flu in my household over the Thanksgiving holiday.
I tend to pride myself on being well and putting myself first in terms of my own well-being, so not only was I surprised to go down so hard with this bug, it also made me mad at myself.
As I say a lot in this show, when I hit rock bottom in my life, it was because I’d been putting myself at the end of my priority list. I was not listening to what I mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually needed.
If I am not well, then nothing else in my life works, and my foundation was so bad that everything else fell apart.
So today I want to talk about prioritization – specifically, prioritizing your physical well-being – so that when the flu or COVID, or whatever it is, comes around to your home, you can be resilient. Resources & Links

Today, we dig deep into mom guilt.
Mom guilt is a huge part of this work, and anytime more women talk about it, the more there is to uncover.
In this episode, I talk with Emily Gorrie, the host of the Project: Mom Podcast, which explores a lot of similar topics to the MotherLoad Podcast – one of the reasons I’ve been really excited for this conversation.
Before recording, both of us had sick kids – a massive part of the mental load, not only because it often means we have to reschedule our days, but it often means WE end up getting sick. All at once, we have to help our kids heal, get everything done, while also taking care of OURSELVES.
Which, inevitably, can make us feel guilty. Should we rest? Or just power through?
In our conversation, we tackle the impact of ALLOWING ourselves to question these feelings of guilt instead of avoiding them; the importance of talking about the hard parts of motherhood; and the power of validating each others’ experiences.

Some helpful advice if you want to offload household or parenting responsibilities to your partner: Don’t put a bow on it.
As today’s guest Elizabeth Pearson points out, if we start putting bows on things BEFORE we offload them, we’ll never truly be free of them. Yes, it might be Lord of the Flies every once and awhile, but the kids’ teeth will be cleaned. The groceries will be purchased. The tasks will get done by somebody other than you.
Elizabeth is an executive coach, bestselling author of Career Confinement: How to Free Yourself, Find Your Guides, and Seize the Fire of Inspired Work, and most importantly, the mother of two little girls.
In this episode, Elizabeth and I discuss what the “final frontier” looks like for women in the workplace; how to TRULY offload your parenting and household tasks; and the importance of just letting the chips fall as they may sometimes.

When I hit rock bottom in 2020, it felt like the basement of my soul was full. What do I mean by that?
If our souls take the form of homes, and these homes have basements, then mine was filled with junk.
I never opened my basement door, but occasionally, I’d peek through the door crack. Then I’d close it quickly, not wanting to deal with that right now. My basement was a dark, scary place to be.
But as I hit rock bottom, and RT and I separated for a period, I couldn’t NOT ignore that door any longer. My basement was bursting at the seams, and I was confronted with this opportunity to begin my inner work in earnest. It was time to start digging myself out.
My “opening the basement door” metaphor is one I use a lot in coaching. Every time I hear this metaphor, it resonates with me on so many levels, which is why I’m sharing it with you today.

I talk a lot about capacity, and why we feel so overloaded.
But as my friend Anna Cosic points out in this episode, one of our greatest obstacles isn’t necessarily carrying the load itself – it’s managing OURSELVES.
Oftentimes, it’s not a capacity issue – it’s an accountability issue.
I believe we CAN be wildly successful in our careers AND be devoted mothers. It’s why this podcast exists – to create a community to help women figure out the push and pull of work and motherhood.
Anna is someone I’ve known for several years from mastermind programs. She's a former media and tech executive turned career and leadership coach, and a mom to an almost-six-year-old.
I’ve been waiting for this conversation for a long time. Anna and I message each other almost everyday due to the fact that we have kids the same age, and that we’re going through a lot of the same things in regards to the motherload.
Today, Anna and I talk about the issue that started her business, the shock of becoming a stay-at-home mom after a corporate career, and some of the most common mental blocks among women she coaches. Resources & Links

Today I’m going to tell you about the power of a brain dump.
A few episodes ago, I talked about feeling overwhelmed. Yes, I have two young kids, and yes, I have a lot to do, but usually I’m pretty on top of it. Even when I’m not, I’m not usually this overwhelmed.
My feeling of overwhelm coincided with the rollout of the MotherLoad company this November, and I felt this urge to get it all out of my mind. I realized I hadn’t done one of those global, everything-on-my-mind brain dumps in a long time.
Getting everything out of my head and onto paper feels like this metaphorical cleanse, where I’m able to reset the pressure and add back the items I need to take action on and prioritize.
Here’s how I do my “brain dumps,” plus some tips on how to use them to help manage the ever-growing motherload.

Even with all my inner work, I still often feel disconnected from my body and what I want the rhythm of my life to look like.
Today’s guest, Margaret James, is a friend and someone I’ve been working with to help me become more in tune with that: what is my body trying to tell me on a deeper level? And how can I nourish it so that I feel more connected to it?
Margaret is an Ayurvedic health counselor, herbalist, writer, facilitator, and the founder of a natural skincare line called Wild & Radiant Botanicals.
She’s a guide onto the path of embodiment – a self-belonging and feminine form of healing – and was instrumental in helping me prepare for Ayahuasca, the plant medicine journey that had a huge impact on the way I view motherhood, feminine embodiment, and feminine energy.
In this episode, Margaret and I discuss her amazing products, energy, nourishment, and the importance of listening to the rhythms of our bodies.

Every morning starts with my Dark Hour.
I coined the name a couple years ago with a mentor and frequently document my Dark Hour on social media. During that time, I often meditate, read, journal, and incorporate some kind of movement component.
Today I’m going to walk you through each part of this practice and offer some tips on how you might start your own. It’s important to note that this is not prescriptive – your Dark Hour doesn’t have to look just like mine. It doesn’t have to be at 5 a.m., or an hour-long, or include what mine does.
But it is something I often recommend to clients. It has helped me tremendously with my inner work practice and the management of my motherload.

Today’s guest is Chris Harder, one of my mentors. He’s a mastermind leader, podcast host, investor, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and he’s well-known for this phrase I love:

I was excited to have Chris on the show to offer some insight on mindset, money, and meaning. He’s been a huge influence in RT’s and my beliefs in our abilities to make money and why we want to.

My first son was born via c-section, and afterward, I could barely walk or sit up.
People had to hand me my 10-pound baby because I couldn’t lift anything 10 pounds or heavier. And yet, when people began texting to send me food, I felt weird about it – like if I accepted this food, I’d owe them something in return.
I think a lot of women in this millennial generation were raised to believe women can do anything, but sometimes, that translates to, we should be doing EVERYTHING.
Today’s guest, Danielle Merlino, is the founder of a very cool organization called Wellpartum, which is a virtual resource center and community with expert information on post-baby brains and bodies.

Today I want to talk about microdosing – specifically, psilocybin mushroom microdosing – which I’ve hinted about here and there on social media and other episodes.
I never did mushrooms or LSD before stepping into this plant medicine mastermind, and I understand it’s considered illegal in most states; here in Colorado, they’re in the process of decriminalizing it as of this election season. My opinion is that there are a lot of things in our country that are “illegal” and don’t make a lot of sense, and that this is one of them.
I’m also launching a program with a collaborator this fall that will include microdosing, so today, I want to be candid about my use and experience with it – what brought me to it, and how I apply it in my life.
No matter what you believe, I hope you’re open-minded about hearing my experience, and that this episode demystifies microdosing for you.

In today’s episode, I’m with my unapologetic friend Dom Farnan: a mom, conscious leader, and founder and CEO of DotConnect, a talent recruiting company that was recently named to the Inc. 5000.
Like me, Dom’s been on an inner work journey. We met in 2020 at a mastermind retreat and Dom was near me in Peru during my experience with the Ayahuasca ceremonies.
(If you haven’t listened yet, I recommend checking out the episode about my Ayahuasca experience before this one.)
Dom is also the author of a memoir coming out later this year, which chronicles her burnout, breakdown, and what she’s been learning (and unlearning!) throughout this journey.
Our conversation delves into all this, and the turning points that led Dom to where she is now, including rediscovering her spirituality, the Ayahuasca experience, and learning to be more unapologetic about putting herself and family first.

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.
A few weeks ago, I was at a plant medicine retreat. I was off the map that entire week, which means I didn’t get to email and didn’t get to DMs. I was out of contact with everything.
RT had a trip spanning the two weeks after my return, so since then, it’s been a lot of solo parenting. While he was gone, both of my kids got sick, and one of my boys stuck a LEGO up his nose.
On top of that, I’m getting ready to launch a couple of new things. The podcast is picking up speed. I’m trying to put more effort, time, and focus on business again, after a year of being more focused on motherhood, but it feels like everything is crunching down on me.
Of course, that’s the motherload. That’s what this whole thing is about. We go through these seasons in our lives where the load can feel heavier and more overwhelming than normal. I coach people on how to handle the motherload, but I’m still in the thick of it and have to utilize my own tools constantly.
We will never truly “master” the motherload, but today I’m going to share a few techniques I use to feel more in control and less paralysis from the feeling of overwhelm.

Chronic burnout. We’ve all felt it.
It feels like the space around us is getting smaller, causing constriction and stress and an overwhelming sense of limitation.
Today I’m here with my friend Shannon Salentine, an executive leadership coach, facilitator, and global development consultant. Four years ago, she left her job to start her own company, Lead For Good, which offers coaching for leaders, changemakers and their companies.
Shannon is the mom of two older kids – a 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son – which is always fun for me, to hear about what I have ahead in my motherhood journey with my two little boys!
In this episode, Shannon and I talk about our changing identities as our kids grow older; about how work and leadership skills CAN translate to parenting; and how allowing more room for margin lets us be more conscious to make decisions that lead us toward our values and keep us present, curious and open to learning.

Sometimes, being around grieving people can be uncomfortable.
For many of us, the instinct is to avoid the topic and walk on eggshells so as not to upset anyone. But as today’s guest Lauryn Laszczak reminds us, the emotions around grief are so vital. Confusion, frustration, doubt, sadness, anger and discomfort are all necessary experiences because with them comes WISDOM.
Lauryn is a somatic business coach, three-time female founder, wife, mama of three, and the host of the Loss and Light podcast, which is named for her newest company, inspired by the loss of her stillborn son, Ben.
My friend Lauryn has a beautiful perspective on ambition, internal purpose and allowing ourselves to feel and talk about those things that make us (and others) uncomfortable – if we do, we may find we’re able to achelmize those feelings into something beautiful and meaningful.

Teaching yoga and being in this motherhood space, I hear a lot of talk about pelvic floor therapy.
Initially I was resistant to this therapy because I’d always heard it was for women who had vaginal births. For both my sons, I had C-sections.
But a lot of pelvic floor dysfunction – especially for mothers – is not related directly to birth. Much of it derives from a weak core and weak glutes, which could be there before you even become pregnant! Pregnancy hormones and the weight we carry while pregnant compounds any dysfunction that may have been there to begin with.
I only recently started pelvic floor therapy and in only four sessions, it’s already made a REVOLUTIONARY difference in my body.
I thought I knew a lot about the pelvic floor because I’d taught yoga for so long, but turns out, there was a LOT I was unaware of.
Today my goal is to demystify pelvic floor therapy, sharing my experience and what I’ve learned, so that other women might feel better about trying it themselves.

Growing up, what did you imagine starting a family would entail?
A peaceful partnership or marriage? Help around the house? Easygoing children? Maybe even a white picket fence?
For many of us, the lives we’re living as mothers are not the ones we imagined, and it can be so hard to let go of that original story. Which brings us to the question: how do we rewrite our narratives so they feel true, and honest and good?
This episode features a conversation with my friend, Amanda Cunningham, who I met years ago at a yoga teacher training. She’s head of development for the nonprofit Her Future Coalition and the Yoga Medicine Seva Foundation and mother to her four-year-old son, Boone.
Amanda is also a single parent whose first years of motherhood involved being plunged in national politics. Today she speaks with exemplary grace and candor about what the experience was like – and is still like.
For the single moms listening – this one’s for you – but I think women in partnerships can also learn from Amanda’s story, and discover how they too might rewrite their motherhood narratives. Resources & Links
Amanda is a beautiful writer. You can find some of her writing on Instagram. She also wrote a beautiful essay about her marriage story, which I strongly recommend.

Recently, while scrolling through Instagram, I found a meme that spoke to me. It went like this:
All my plans for the future involve me waking up tomorrow with a sudden sense of discipline and adherence to routine that I have never displayed even once in my life.
I thought, that’s EXACTLY how my future goals and visions feel sometimes – that the person at the end of the journey isn’t anything like the person I am now. It made me think about how self-transformation actually works.
Sometimes goals can feel very motivating, and sometimes they feel so far away from where we sit today. I often find myself on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Either I’m disappointed in myself for not doing a single thing toward that goal today, or I’m so fired up I want to wake up at 4 a.m. and change everything about my life to support this long-term vision. Neither is ideal.
Today, I want to talk about that middle zone, which is all about discipline and consistency. How do we go about setting goals? What do we need to do day-to-day to meet them? Most importantly – how do we BECOME that disciplined person fulfilling that long-term goal?

Have you ever declined help from a friend because you didn’t want to feel in debt?
I’ve talked about this fear of reciprocity with many women, and in today’s conversation with Laura Munkholm, we go in depth to why it’s a thing – and how to get past it to live our best lives.
Laura and I have been on similar journeys. We attended high school together and reconnected via Facebook in 2015 over our shared experiences as yoga studio owners, consultants for MINDBODY software, entrepreneurs and mothers.
Today she is a speaker, mother of two, and the president and co-founder of Walla, a comprehensive software company that's taking on the health and wellness space.
In this episode, Laura and I talk about her motherhood and entrepreneurial journey, getting past this “fear of reciprocity” to accept help, and why sharing our ambitions with our children is so important.

The last few weeks, I’ve been dealing with my first exposure to school politics.
In short, a handful of moms took all the volunteer spots in my son’s classroom, fewer than five parents signing up for eight to twelve slots each. On the surface, it might not seem like a big deal, but underneath are some serious questions I’m pondering.
Questions like, are we showing up to help the school and our kids? Or are we showing up to fill some unmet need of our own?
In this episode, I tell the story in detail and the lessons I’ve taken away from it. It’s one aspect of my mental load, and I hope it resonates with you, and that you can take something away from it for your future school politics run-ins.

What are your thoughts on astrology, human design, and Gene Keys?
Maybe you’re a believer. Maybe you’re a skeptic. Or, maybe you’re a little undecided. No matter your feelings, I urge you to listen to today’s episode, which features my friend Kelly Kasle, who I met during the One Infinity mastermind program.
(I spoke in detail about the One Infinity program in the episode, “How Ayahuasca Changed Motherhood for Me,” which I recommend listening to for context.)
Kelly is a teacher and astrologer, and she has such a unique perspective on the collective consciousness of motherhood in the world today and where it’s all heading.
I hope you’ll join us and, if you haven’t already, give astrology a chance, because as a mother, I’ve found Kelly’s wisdom around these topics incredibly valuable, helping me better understand my children, myself, and what gives purpose to my life.

Follow Kelly on Instagram, TikTok, and visit her website for more information on who she is, what she does and her services. Currently, she offers readings and is putting together courses on how to start using astrology and gene keys in your daily life.

Today’s conversation is about a topic I go into quite a lot offline: habits vs. practices.
Habits and practices get thrown around a lot and used interchangeably, but after going through my own inner work journey, I realized they’re actually wildly different. (Hint: one requires far more focus, time, and presence). The way that you form and stop habits is so different than how you approach the rituals and mastery involved in developing a practice.
**I hope this episode inspires you to think about the habits and practices you want to have in your own life.

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a person who played an ENORMOUS role in inspiring the MotherLoad podcast.
Meet Adam Roa, my incredible coach, mentor, and the poet behind the viral YouTube poem, “You Are Who You’ve Been Looking For.” He’s a filmmaker, speaker, creator, and he runs the One Infinity Mastermind program.
I spoke in great detail about my participation in the One Infinity program in my third episode, “How Ayahuasca Changed Motherhood for Me,” which I strongly recommend listening to before this one. At the end of this program, on the train from Cusco to Machu Picchu, Adam and I discussed what I’d make of my Ayahuasca journey.
So much of my experience involved grappling with my identity as a mother, but I didn’t want my future project to be about mothering.
His response: Why not? Everyone has a mother. It is a universal truth.
The rest, of course, is history.
In this episode, Adam and I discussed a number of topics – pacing, trauma, relationships, personal journeys, learning to love life – and, per usual, our conversation went very deep very quickly. Resources & Links
For more information on my friend Adam Roa, visit his website and follow him on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. He also runs a weekly newsletter, two podcasts (The Deep Dive with Adam Roa & You’re Too Much, which is with Taylor Simpson)

This week, my older son, Sawyer, started “big kid school” – half-time Kindergarten.
I knew this would be an important moment as a parent, but I was kind of surprised by the things that stuck out to me on Back-to-School Night, or as I’m calling it, “Back to School Night for the Soul.”
It’s messy, complicated, beautiful, and chaotic to witness our children take these monumental steps, but as I discovered, these moments also involve opportunities to reflect back to our own childhoods, look to the future, and realize the things we want most for our children.

I was having a conversation with a friend a couple weeks ago and she made an offhand comment like, “Instagram makes me a terrible mother.”
(By the way, this woman is an AMAZING mother by all definitions of motherhood).
At first I wanted to blindly agree, and say, “Yeah, Instagram sucks,” but I didn’t – and I realize now it’s because I don’t really believe that.
So today I’m going to share what I know is an unpopular opinion:
Social media has made me a better mother.
Motherhood involves an existential journey in our culture, and it’s having a positive trajectory in terms of awareness of what motherhood actually entails. Social media enables women to share this experience with each other, and, if used right, can provide tools that help with parenting and inner work.
So today I will present an argument – and I think it’s a good one! – about how social media really can positively impact our experiences as mothers.

Today's interview is with the one and only Jackie Carr, a dear friend of mine, goal coach, writer, speaker, and most importantly, a mother of 3 beautiful daughters.
Jacki works one on one with clients to help them find alignment and inspiration around their core values, mission and goals, and has worked with major brands like Lululemon, Patagonia, and Mindbody. Jacki also has an entire community and book club centered around learning and connection.
If you've followed me for any amount of time, you've heard me mentioned Jacki countless times and the impact she's had on my life. And Jacki just arrived home from a wildly fun cross country road trip in an RV with her family.
Together, we'll dive into a seriously juicy conversation about the motherload.
Today’s episode is quick and actionable and will inspire you to think differently about the mental load of motherhood. The mental load is probably a LOT more than you might think and I’ve broken it out into these 5 buckets:
Come ready to listen with a pen and paper so you can make a list of what’s taking up space in your own mental load. What can you do to lighten your load or grow your capacity in a different space?

Today I’m going to talk about something that completely changed my life.
This year, I went on an Ayahuasca mastermind retreat in the Peruvian Amazon, an intense 12-day experience with three Ayahuasca ceremonies. There were blessings, plant medicine, psychedelic experiences, and very real epiphanies about motherhood. It completely shook up my perspective of the past and future.
It’s a big moment for me to sit here and talk about it, and to be on this path with my business and podcast. Three months ago, I wouldn’t have thought ambitious, high-achieving women would be interested in talking about motherhood. They’d want to instead focus on business.
The thing is, you cannot not be a mother once you are one. At a scale that no one else understands, it changes who you are.
And it doesn’t mean you can’t continue to succeed – in fact, it means you can go on to do incredible things, because if you can become a mother, you’ve proved you can do anything. It’s the most radical shift there is.

My relationship with my partner, RT, is the foundation of my motherload.
Keeping our relationship strong is how I manage my business, the kids, and every little detail these enormous loads entail. To keep our relationship strong, we regularly discuss our partnership.
For a long time, we didn’t know how to talk to each other about the big stuff – and consequently, it caused us to separate in 2020.
So in today’s show, I am joined by the one and only RT. We’ll tell you a little bit about ourselves, how we got through our rough patch, and what you can expect in future episodes.
We hope this can become a place of open conversation, not only between the two of us, but between us and our listeners. We are far from perfect, but we’ve had those difficult conversations, and we can share what’s worked for us and what might work for you, too. Resources & Links

Welcome to the MotherLoad Podcast, a podcast for ambitious entrepreneurial mothers who are navigating the relationship between their desire to succeed and their devotion to motherhood. I’m Lindsay, a serial entrepreneur, growth and performance coach, and boy mama of two.
Each week I’ll bring solo episodes, engaging interviews and candid conversations that I hope will help others expand their capacities to do both things well, to feel less alone, and bring a little levity to what otherwise can feel like a very heavy load.
Today I’m going to tell you my story: from becoming an entrepreneur and a mother, to the year that changed EVERYTHING.
In 2020, I lost so much. My yoga studio. My coaching and consulting business. My partner RT’s mother passed away. My father was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Then, RT and I separated.
Now? I feel more grounded and successful than ever – but also more challenged by the load I’m under. These days, the most important thing to me is regulating the space between work and parenting, which is what this podcast is all about. Throughout it all, I promise to be real and raw and vulnerable, because, ultimately, I think that’s how we help one another – by sharing our stories. Resources & Links
