Rob & Jason sat down with the rising star, comedian Andrew Stanley before he headlined Comedy Night in Columbus, Ohio in September. The conversation is filled with laughter and great insights for pastors and leaders who want to help their kids find their God-given calling.
Andrew Stanley grew up as a homeschooled preacher's kid, so it was unlikely that he would ever find love, become a comedian, or contribute to society in a meaningful way. Two out of three is not too bad! Now a husband and fast-rising stand-up comedian, Andrew has been performing all over the country. Jason, Rob, & Courtney have a lively discussion about the simple, beautiful faith of that stereotypical older lady in your congregation who can't explain theologically, much less epistemologically, why she believes what and how she does, but she just naturally connects with God. She can hold her faith tightly even when confronted with the fact that it defies historical, philosophical ideas.
The team also talks about "blessed ju ju," theological determinism, and why the Sacraments are becoming meaningless to many protestants (and especially Baptists).

Rob & Jason talk about how having so many resources can often hinder your ministry more than you realize. Most of us would never say we have too many resources! Yet, if we step back and look around, needing more resources is not the real obstacle to moving forward in our ministry mission. If anything, we rest on our resources rather than lean into our faith that God wants to work in and through us with or without all the resources at our fingertips. What would it look like to step out in faith and trust God to work instead of trusting in our resources and practices?

Rob & Jason talk with Pastor Trevor Williams. Pastor Williams was in a terrible car accident 2 years ago. He and all 3 of his kids were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and tragically, his wife of 17 years did not survive the accident. Within the next 12 months, Pastor Williams also lost his father and grandmother. Somehow, in the midst of all that loss, Trevor has found peace in Christ that is nothing short of miraculous. He wouldn't say that he understands any of it, but he is finding a way to get through it (with a lot of help!). His is a powerful story of loss and hope, pain and healing.
Pastor Trevor Williams is almost done writing a book recounting what he has learned from the past 2 years. It will be coming out in October. The Church Talk Project will post more information once the details are known.

Don’t pull your punches
But…punch with velvet gloves
Make sure you’re fluent on all sides of the issue

AARON ARMSTRONG serves at his local church as a small group leader, a children’s ministry teacher, and an occasional Sunday morning teacher. He loves to write, especially to help people grow as followers of Jesus. He is the author of multiple books.

In this episode, Jason mentions a graph that includes "vital signs" and "critical conditions". Vital signs are metrics that should be moving up and to the right. Critical conditions are measurements that should remain constant within a range. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Rob & Jason begin a conversation about knowing when to let it go, quit, leave, and/or give up. Often, when people in our church leave we either demonize them or try to say that we needed them to leave so we could grow. But when pastors leave it is because “God called me to a new ministry.” Why do we treat these situations so differently? How do we know when it is really time to leave?
