Pastor Brent went for a walk in the woods (on a hunting related mission, of course!) and he tripped. He ended up getting entangled in a thorn bush. Likewise, it is easy for Christians to get entangled in the things of the world. In order to avoid this entanglement, we need to walk with God, cut off the sins in our lives, live a life of love and devote ourselves to prayer.

In times of panic, does any good happen?  When Pastor Brent played basketball, they would “press” they opposing team, which is forcing the team to panic and then take undesirable shots.  Satan does the same thing to us.  The enemy is trying to cause us to panic, which causes us to trust in ourselves instead of God.

During times that you find yourself worrying or panicking:
1) remember that God is fighting for you,
2) don’t waste your time chasing after the riches of the world
3) find satisfaction in God alone.

So often we just sho up no expect to be fed. Many of us are missing out on the feast God has to offer. Jesus spoke about food a lot in the Bible. He used these examples because they are something we can relate to as humans.

For this son of mine was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate. Meanwhile the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked what was going on. “Your brother has come” he replied, “and your father has killed the fattened calf because he is safe and sound.” The oldest brother became angry an refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.  Luke 15: 24-28

It’s easy for us to judge the world and be angry at the people in it. It’s easy to look at the Grammy’s this past week and feel we’re better than those people because we don’t participate in things like that.

Jesus ate with sinners and met them where they were. He ate with prostitutes and to collectors and was judged for it. He was questioned by the religious leaders and he rebuked them for being like the son who wouldn’t celebrate his brother’s return.

But the pharisees and teachers of the law muttered,”This man welcomes sinners and eats with them”. Luke 15:2

When Pastor Brent was 6 years old, he fell into a pit filled with manure and pigs.  He felt like he was being swallowed up by the manure.  He yelled for help and his uncle came to rescue him.

Joseph also found himself in a pit – one he was thrown into by his brothers.  Perhaps you are finding yourself in a pit during this time of your life.  There is hope…God works out all things for his glory!  In order to come out of the pit, we need to remember that we just need to “win the day,” trust in the Lord and live with integrity.

In the church, we often see extremes.  Some churches are very legalistic, while others are very carnal.  Instead of either of these extremes, the church should be teaching we need to be led by the spirit and not the flesh.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” Romans 8:5

As Christians, we need to make sure we are living by the Spirit and not the flesh.  We do this by putting God in His proper place, dealing with sin, and trusting God.

We need to make sure that we are pursuing God first in our lives!  Too many Christians have stopped pursuing God.  They have stopped doing what it takes to spend time with God and are just going through the motions.  They are pursuing bigger houses, promotions, or personal ambitions instead of pursuing God.

In life, it is easy to remember the “big” moments (i.e. weddings, births of children, deaths, major milestones), however life is really made up of the little moments.  We tend to celebrate the big moments.  The seemingly insignificant things most often prepare us for the big things in life.  We need to remember that there are opportunities on the journey. We need to:
1) focus on what is important,
2) stop making excuses
3) stop the entitlement mentality.

Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during last Monday's game against the Bengals.  The game immediately stopped, the players started praying and eventually the game was called off.  The life of Damar Hamlin was more important than the game, the fans and the money that football games generate.  This is a great reminder to make we sure are putting the most important thing first in our lives, which is our relationship with Jesus.

If Christmas is about FINDING the perfect gift, perfect outfit or the perfect people, you will be disappointed!  As we celebrate Christmas, we need to make sure to find Christ in CHRISTmas.  We can do this by seeking Christ, taking out the “dirty laundry” in our lives and living the life you are called to live.

Mary, the mother of Jesus was the most favored person to walk this Earth (besides Jesus).  It sounds like someone who is favored would have an easy life.  However, life was not easy for Mary and Joseph, instead it was very difficult.

Today’s message is about how we are all favored.  We need to learn what that looks like, how to seek refuge in God and how to have confidence in Him.

Many things in life can disappoint us.  Many people harden their hearts because they’ve been disappointed.  They’re afraid to trust in God because they’re afraid He might let them down.  However, God will NEVER let you down.

The text for this week’s message include the accounts of Jesus cursing the fig tree and clearing the temple courts (Mark 11:12-25).  These scriptures remind us to pray with power and to remember who is on our side.

As we are amid the Christmas season, many of us have days that we “don’t feel the Christmas spirit.”  It is so easy to get focused on the many details of the season (the tree, gifts, gatherings) that we lose focus of the most important thing!  We can “find” the Christmas spirit as we take the focus off ourselves and make things right with God.
