My F3 story is probably somewhat unique. No one person “EH’d” me. Somewhere, in the back of my brain I had heard about F3 probably near its start in Knoxville.

During the pandemic, I decided to do P90X at home. I went through the 90 days and really enjoyed the workouts, how I was beginning to feel, and the new energy I had. However, around the 45 day mark I found myself muting Mr. Tony Horton during the workouts. I knew them almost all by heart and the repetitive nature of them was KILLING ME. Once school started back in the Fall of 2020, I had given up on continuing P90X and wasn’t working out.

However, I found something. When spending the summer of 2020 applying for and interviewing for Administration jobs in Knox County Schools, I noticed that two of the principals I was interviewing with were “mutual friends” with my old buddy Andy, aka “Dimples”. I was able to tell that they were friends because they all “liked” F3Knoxville. I looked it up, poking around on social media and the website, and thought it seemed cool. There was even a location 5 mins from my house! That was in June/July of 2020.

I changed jobs in November of 2020, becoming an Assistant Principal at Carter High School. Because of COVID restrictions and having to be at the school at 7:30 am each morning to take the temperature of the students as they entered the building, I thought that there was no way that I could get to this F3 workout, come home, shower, get ready, and make it to school in time.

Jesus used that place to expose my belief system and so much more. He pursued me on an intimate level, and my life has been better ever since. I married my high school sweetheart a few years later and got commissioned as a Naval Officer after graduating from the University of Wisconsin. We have 3 kids (currently 14, 10 and 7) and moved a half dozen times back and forth across the country. In 2014, we took orders to Virginia where I met F3's Dreamliner. I thought it sounded terrible and wanted no part of it but I promised to give him 4 saturdays cause I'm a good friend. So I was an FNG when we launched F3 Hampton Roads in November 2016. Two months later, still not a fan of mornings, I said I'd site Q a mid week ao if it were bear crawl distance from my house and we launched a Tuesday morning beatdown at the park by my house. started with F3 in November of 2020. As many were in 2020, I was looking for a way to improve my quality of life and build stronger friendships’. I had also just got threw my first ever knee surgery and needed to boost my fitness. My story with F3 does start before 2020 though, it was around 2018 when I was first invited out to F3 by a pax named Drifter. Like many men, when I asked what time, they meet it was a fast no from me. Fast forward 2 years and I found myself in a meeting with Drifter at work. This time something inside me was pushing me to ask Drifter if he was still involved “in that workout thing”. Of course, like most of us it was a “Yes” with a huge smile and a business card in hand. With no real idea why I was working out at 5:30 in the cold since it was November, a healing knee, and the mentality that I was a former college football player so I can do any workout I posted to my first beatdown. I was humiliated, destroyed, and hooked from that day on.

My name is Michael Barrett, 42, Rep Sleepy. I have been married to my wife, Rhonda, for 19 years. We have two kids. The oldest is Carrie, 9, Cat Nap and youngest is Evelyn, 6, Donut. We adopted Carrie from birth. Evelyn is a miracle child that my wife gave birth to since we couldn't have kids. I joined F3 in March of 2021 as a very out of shape sad clown. I had come to realize I needed to be healthier for my family but didn't know yet what else F3 was going to add to my life. Carrie started showing signs of severe anxiety not long after I joined F3. That has since led us down a road of diagnoses with ADHD, OCD, and general anxiety disorder. My faith and F3 has held me up through what has been one of the most difficult seasons of my family's life. We haven't finished that journey yet, but it is comforting to have a group of men that are walking with me through it. From the F3 side of things, I was driving 30ish minutes to the two closest AOs for the first year plus I was in F3. We made the decision to launch an AO in Seymour, TN in April of 2022. We named 7 FNGs that morning and have never looked back. That AO has birthed 2 more AOs and has two more in the works this year. It also was the catalyst for F3 Smokies to starfish from F3 Knoxville in January of 2023. F3 has made me a better husband, father, and employee and I can't imagine my life without it now.

He completed many deployments throughout the 5th and 7th FLEETS including Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom Philippines. He Commanded the Battle “E” VP-9 Golden Eagles, and throughout his military career served in two other Battle “E” Squadrons; VP-4 and VP-40.

Staff tours during his military career included Director, Naval Aviation Enterprise Total Force CFT, OPNAV N88 Head, Aviation Budget Requirements Officer, OPNAV N80 “Bullpen” Aviation Warfare Section and Strike Pillar Lead, CPRW-1 Maintenance Officer, and VX-1 Operational Test Director.

Dan Rieck was born and raised in Preston, Maryland. He graduated from the University ofMaryland in 1983 with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics, he received his Naval Aviation Wings of Gold in 1986 and completed an MBA at Naval Postgraduate School in 2005.

All of the above is insignificant to his most crowning achievement: He was intelligent enoughto ask the former Anne Marie Altobelli from Beltsville, Maryland, to marry him, and by God’sprovidence she said yes! Because of that blessing, he was further blessed to be the extremelyproud father of two amazing children: Daniel Jr. (Go Hokies!), and Alison (Go Hokies!). Thereis no accomplishment that can match the richness that family brings to life...thanks Anne Marie,DJ and Ali!

Dan is also very active in Christian Men’s Mentorship, numerous Christian Non-Profit groups, his Church and his Community.
