The boys are back again, and this week are joined by Matt from Matt Talks Tech (750k+ subscribers). Chat kicks off with iPhone 17 Pro camera issues, with Alex, Daniel & Matt all experiencing an issue with the new 4x telephoto camera on the 17 Pro.
One UI 8.5 has leaked out, and Daniel talks to us about how the build has leaked and also what changes Samsung are making (including some very iOS-like customisation features for the Quick Panel).
David brings up content creation rigs using a smartphone, and at one point, should you just buy a camera instead of using a phone?
The boys discuss the advantages and disadvantages of phone setups.
Chat then moves to YouTube and how Linus has been experiencing some view discrepancies.
Matt tells us how he uploads every day, Alex goes on a rant about a certain camera comparison, and David has issues with Apple Support. All that and more on this week’s Minus Sixteen!

This is the week you've been waiting for. A lifelong Samsung fanboy has switched to iPhone and is ready to talk about it.
This week, the boys begin the chat with the obvious, Daniel's switch to iPhone. David has been watching his content and is picking his brain about what it's been like for him. Daniel, to be fair, has been fair to the iPhone (after the initial pain of switching) and highlights where he thinks the fundamental difference lies between Samsung & Apple.
Alex (initially joining from his car) offers insights into the iPhone’s camera setup up and David has been using the iPhone Air out and about to put the battery life through its paces.
iPhone & Apple chat continues, and both David & Alex ask Daniel for insights into life as an iPhone user for the first time ever. Daniel offers plenty of thoughts and detailed research into what using iOS has been like.
With that lengthy chat done, the boys turned their attention to YouTube and discussed A/B testing, AdSense, and tools, before sharing a final thought on iPhones...and Daniel reveals whether he is keeping the Pro Max or returning it...

The boys are on fire this week with a lot to talk about.
Joined by fellow Australian Samuel Nam, they start to dissect the Apple launch event and each give their honest (and ranty) impressions about the new range. For the first time, Daniel talks about his intention to buy one and the reason why, whilst Samuel brings his insights into dailying an iPhone Air.
We chat briefly about YouTube, discussing the state of securing sponsors and working with brands, but the chat is swiftly brought back to Apple, and for good reason, as there is a lot to discuss.
David is adamant that Apple is back on track this year and is impressed by what he sees for a vision for the future, whilst Alex orders one of everything from the Apple menu.
Get out of the description and get watching - the boys rip in this week with passion, humour, and a fair bit of ranting.

Description: The boys are back after a month-long break. They are rejoined by Sam Beckman, creator with over 500k subs and an Android juggernaut. The discussion kicks off with Pixel 10 chat, and before any hardware discussions take place, they discuss the event and whether or not the direction Google took was right. The discussion around the Pixel turned to why Google is limiting their hardware, and there was chat around whether or not it was a strategy move from Google to ensure it doesn't overtake Samsung and other competitors in the Android Space.
Alex & David went to the Honor Magic V5 event this week and gave their impressions on the hardware and software. It started a broader discussion over foldables and whether Google did enough with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
It's coming into Apple season, so the boys discussed the Apple event and looked at what Apple could launch and the rumoured changes to the iPhone 17 series.
The podcast then pivoted to YouTube chat. There have been some new scams going around creators’ inboxes at the moment, so the boys all shared stories and caution to any creators out there.
YouTube has introduced a new Hype feature, where viewers can assign Hype points to creators, and it is supposed to help boost viewership and let other viewers know they should watch it. The boys discuss the impact that could have on their channels and what the actual purpose of something like this is for.
We finished off by picking Sam Beckman’s brain in relation to his content strategy on platforms outside of YouTube, and he shared his wisdom on how he has grown both TikTok & Instagram.
It was a big one this week, all of that + much more on this week's Minus Sixteen!

The boys are on fire this week. Discussion begins with iPhone 17 rumours and whether Apple are playing it too safe with their lineup of phones for 2025. This leads onto a conversation about how Apple have a hold over consumers and don't really have to push smartphone technology far anymore due to the fact that people just blindly buy them anyway.
But with Samsung's new foldable lineup out, the boys chat about how this is the first time a foldable can be recommended to the general consumer and beyond the tech bubble. The sleeker design, more natural cover screen ratio and improved main camera all lend themselves to being the perfect phone for Apple users to switch to.
Alex got a new M4 MacBook Air and spoke of how the M4 chip really surprised him in the lightweight package, and the boys generally discuss how Apple's computers over some of the best value for money to performance ratio of any laptops out there.
Leak culture was up next, and the boys weigh in on Apple vs Jon Prosser and how leak culture has influenced content creation in general. David takes a dig at how no one actually cares about Samsung to leak, Daniel loves his MacBook Pro, and Alex tells Samsung how to fix the Fold 8.

The boys are back to talk all things Samsung. Two weeks post Galaxy Unpacked, the boys have a lot to...well..unpack as each of them got to experience what Samsung had to announce in their own special ways.
Alex & Daniel give their first-hand account of using the Galaxy Z Fold 7 for the past 2 weeks, whilst David discusses his first time at a Samsung event and getting to see how Samsung have innovated in the Foldable space.
It pondered a larger question around whether Apple are bringing that excitement anymore into the tech space and whether they can consider themselves at the forefront of innovation anymore.
David rants about Apple while Daniel defends them (what world are we in?), and we get some insights into the broader tech world and how Apple infiltrates every space consumers live in.
Alex gives a warning about security as he fends off an attack on his YouTube channel. YouTube are FINALLY bringing A/B title testing, and views are inconsistent for the summer as people are enjoying the sun (even in Australian winters) instead of consuming content.

David then went into early predictions for the iPhone September event and how Apple's lineup could change this year with the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, which then brought about discussions of the S25 Edge and how the Air from Apple could stimulate the wider thin phone market.
The product chat was extensive this week, but we still had time for YouTube, and there was a bit to catch up on with the Mr Beast AI Thumbnail Saga, which then prompted a wider discussion over AI in the Creator space and how it could impact what we do in the future.

The Samsung S25 Edge, CarPlay Ultra and WWDC were all up for discussion on this episode…
Will there be a shift in smartphone design, as the era of thin phones comes back, and will they challenge the foldables? We’ve asked for change, and now we are finally seeing it, but what’s the Samsung Edge been like to live with? Daniel tells us firsthand.
Apple finally unveiled CarPlay Ultra, so David takes a deep look into that and gives us his thoughts on why car makers have been so reluctant to adopt to using it. And what’s coming at WWDC…we’ll cover that properly next time, but we have some early thoughts and predictions.
While Alex was on holiday, it gave him time to reflect on the phones he uses every day and what features make him decide what phone to reach for.
And what is happening with YouTube and views? They seem all over the place - has something changed, and what makes a video pop and take off?
We also discuss the balance between work and enjoyment while travelling, the significance of pushing creative boundaries, and the joy of connecting with viewers through our content.

As ever, in this podcast, we set about discussing the latest developments in the tech world, first focusing on the upcoming launch of Samsung's S25 Edge.
Then we chat about the ongoing legal troubles faced by Apple. We look at the implications of Apple's anti-competitive practices and how these could affect the company's business model moving forward. Are the best days behind Apple, and what will now become of the App Store? The world of tech landscape is changing before our eyes, and we talk over the accountability of the big tech players, the dangers of monopolies and how they need to be policed, and the future of smart home technology.
Daniel visited an event last week showcasing the future of the Smart Home and how Samsung sees it playing out.
Then we touched on the challenges of content creation in the quieter times and how it actually allows you to expand your content portfolio.

Alex is sunning himself in Brazil, so it’s just David and Daniel who start by delving into the world of tech, focusing on the performance issues of One UI 7 and where it all went wrong for Samsung over the past few months. Have the latest updates helped? Daniel explains…
We chatted about the latest rumours about iPadOS and iOS, what new features they may bring, and how they might look. The discussion then shifts to YouTube, reflecting on its growth as a content platform and how we started to watch content and what made us think we might want to try it ourselves.
We shared anecdotes about our early experiences with YouTube and how it influenced our content creation journeys, especially during COVID. Also, who are the creators we look up to? Who inspires us, and what is this current theme of 'dunking' on other channels all about?
Authenticity was touched on, and we talked in detail about how important we find that in the content we both make and watch. There are some rumoured new changes coming to how YouTube may display videos on your homepage feed that could have major implications - we talk over whether we think they are good for creators or not.
Then we chatted about cameras as David has just bought a new lens for his Canon, and what lenses Daniel may be looking to upgrade to next. Finally, we spoke about the importance of having a dedicated studio space and the freedom and creativity that brings...

In this episode of Minus Sixteen, we discuss various topics, including the challenges of technical setups, the release of One UI 7, smartphone durability issues, the pressures of content creation, the impact of tariffs on smartphone pricing, and the evolution of smartphone camera technology.
We chat about how these factors influence our work as tech creators and jump into the nuances of video production, focusing on the importance of selecting the right camera gear, particularly lenses, and the impact of audio and lighting on video quality. We discuss the significance that scripting and presentation techniques have on making effective content.
We also touch on the implications that tariffs will have on tech products and how companies might adjust pricing strategies in response to these economic factors. That led us on to the subject of corporate responsibility, environmental concerns, privacy issues, and the challenges of content creation on platforms like YouTube where creators face difficulties in gaining traction for diverse content due to algorithmic changes. We talk about our strategies for engaging audiences and the importance of adapting to trends in technology and social media in general.
And then we looked at how Apple navigate government demands for data access while maintaining user privacy. The discussion also delves into the evolving landscape of YouTube, where creators face difficulties in gaining traction for diverse content due to algorithmic changes.

Definitely one of our best - this is what podcasting should be about!
We started off by thinking that there may not be much to chat over - but how wrong we were! We got the ball rolling by chatting over the expansive choices there are now available in the Android market and the giant strides they’re making in catching up the brand leaders.
That gave way to what was supposed to be a chat about WWDC which was announced this week, however, that rapidly gave way to a pretty heated chat about about AI and what we all think it’s future will be. It’s clear Apple is a little lost right now, and it seems our overarching view was that Apple needs to find back their passion.
After we all calmed down a little, we then spoke about our various studio spaces and Daniel’s move that will mean soon he will have his first dedicated studio space - exciting times ahead, for sure!
Honestly, this episode is one we know you’ll enjoy!

The DAD's are back, all three of them are together, even after a dicey cyclone in Australia that threatened to keep Daniel away, it cleared just in time for the boys to record.
Alex kicks off the chats this week with a close look and discussion at the Oppo Find N5, which then brought about a broader discussion about the state of the foldable market and whether Apple will ever dip their toes in the water with one of their own.
David then brings up the state of Apple marketing and how they don't seem to have any cohesion, especially in the light of the Apple Intelligence delay and how they promoted that VERY heavily during the iPhone 16 launch.
Chat then turns to YouTube and how changes with ad placement have caused a stir in the creator community recently. Daniel found a tweet that breaks it down and the boys discuss what it might mean.
YouTube also seemed to test a new shorts feed that had the boys confused.
Bots are watching videos, brands are paying for them and Newcastle will beat Liverpool on Sunday at Wembley, all that and more on this week’s Minus Sixteen!

This week, the boys were joined by YouTuber Andrew Clare. Andrew is an Apple-focused YouTube channel from the states, and he joins us to talk about his experience, but also the latest iPhone 16e.
The chat starts with the aforementioned iPhone 16e and David does our first live pod unboxing. The product’s value is brought into question as well as the positive coverage of the phone as opposed to a real critique.
The chat then moves onto Galaxy S25 and Andrew shares his experience as a lifelong Apple user and how Samsung has changed since his last experience with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
YouTube chat begins with talk about a recent video by a YouTube employee on their personal channel critiquing the current state of tech reviews.
Alex rallies the group to, instead of criticising the space, offering advice from the boy’s experiences that can help someone looking for inspiration.
Alex has an SD card nightmare, MKBHD's reviews are questioned and much more on this week's Minus Sixteen!

The boys are back together on their own this week. The conversation flowed seamlessly between product, business and upcoming events.
Starting with Galaxy S25 chat, Alex gave his view on the S25+ and the value it offers, and the boys discussed base model devices and how they are an excellent value choice for those who just want a dependable smartphone without the bells and whistles.
David was keen to discuss Daniel's video about the S25 Ultra and what would be the reaction if it were made by Apple instead. It's an interesting conversation because the narrative around the S25 Ultra hasn't been positive, especially by some of the bigger creators like MKBHD and publications like The Verge.
Business chat quickly took over, Alex talked about dealing with a sponsorship manager, and being organised and planned with content, David has updated his workflow to include a project management system to get on top of his sponsorship commitments, and Daniel spoke about how he intends to stay as a solo creator for now.

This week the boys are joined by Kyle Erickson. A YouTuber from Canada known for his unique style and distinct thumbnails.
To kick things off they recapped the drama of the S Pen and saga from early in the week after Kyle and Alex both shared their thoughts of their time with the S25 Ultra.
Post that, the chat shifted to their first YouTube discussions of the year as they explored Kyle's audio treatment, how he started his YouTube journey and what made him go full-time at 7 thousand subs!

The boys are joined by Patrick Rambles this week and kick off their chat to see if Daniel is any closer to switching to a Mac. Patrick, Alex & David all over Mac Mini insights to try and help the decision as they also compare the base model Mac Mini's to fully specced machines.
Alex updated us on how the No Android November challenge went and talked through the pain of switching ecosystems constantly, and diverted the chat to how he wants to use this as a showcase for future sponsor integrations.
Patrick also revealed his strategy of moving away from dedicated videos and trying and focus on core content for his channel as the focus of the pod switched to its usual look at YouTube and the business side of creating.
The chat couldn't be rounded up without a mention of the One UI 7 Beta at the end by Daniel, as he didn't want the pod to end without at least a chat about Samsung's latest software.

The boys lost Alex this week as his Jaguar got scared after the rebrand and needed repairs.
David & Daniel started by discussing the positive side of tech YouTube and how they both intend to continue to be excited by tech rather than tired of it. This led to an early look into a fascinating new product from Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold SE. Along with the new design, it sparked a conversation about product launches and Samsung's haphazard release schedule.
David then spoke about his massive Mac Mini video and what it taught him about creation and also the products he was testing, which then turned into a long, deep-dive discussion into the future of Daniel's editing set-up.
He is currently in a mind melt about switching from his beloved, but flawed, Galaxy Book 4 Ultra to a Mac Mini or M1 Max Macbook Pro. He takes us on a long, twisted journey about what he is grappling with and David tries to help him navigate through. But he needs your help, so when you've listened, comment below!
The boys then discuss the hot YouTube news of the last 2 weeks, MKBHD. Rather than just straight up cancelling him, David & Daniel offer a balanced, fair analysis of the whole situation and try and offer perspective in the whole scenario.

This week started with a bit of chaos as it looked like Daniel's tech troubles would strike again.
Alex & David started without him and got straight into NEW Mac Mini chat.
The boys spoke about the new devices as well as the configurations they had purchased for themselves.
Daniel EVENTUALLY fixed his tech issues and joined as we got into Alex's No Android November challenge which prompted a great insight into daily drivers and what tech we rely on each day to support not only our businesses but also our lives.
We then diverted to YouTube and spoke about celebrating successful weeks on the platform with everyone hitting a 1/10 video, before discussing how we respond to comments and engage with our audience in unique ways.
We finished up with some new tech to look at, Daniel & Alex waxed lyrical over some DJI cameras before rounding off the episode. All that and more on this week’s episode of Minus Sixteen!

Brad is a YouTuber who caters to creative professionals and drills down on the products and resources available for artists and creatives.

In a short and sharp chat this week, the boys begin their chat with some insights into how they got their iPhones on launch day and David recounts the hustle and bustle it took to get him his devices in time for videos.
David & Alex both give their accounts of using the iPhone in the first week and talk about how the camera control button is positioned wrong and lacks enough functionality right now.
The chat then turns to the newest Samsung devices and naturally, Daniel offers his guidance on what Samsung should've done instead.
After the product chat was done, Daniel talked about the origins of his beef with Quinn from Snazzy Labs and why creators should support each other instead of spreading hate and derision.
Finally, in a stacked chat, they finish with insights and thoughts on the controversy surrounding MKBHD and the Panels app that was launched last week.

In this episode of the Minus Sixteen podcast, we take a look into the tech world's latest controversies and discussions, namely how Google and their PR agency have got into a bit of a pickle. We kick things off with the newly released Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a device that has sparked mixed reactions among tech enthusiasts. Some say it looks odd and even ugly, prompting us to explore what might have gone wrong in its design. We also discuss how aesthetics play a significant role in consumer choice, and whether Google has missed the mark with this one.
✨We are genuinely curious though, do you prefer the wider screen of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold or prefer the design Samsung implemented in their Galaxy Z Fold 6? Let us know in the comments! 👇🏼
Next, we tackle a more serious issue in the tech review community—potential biases among tech reviewers. We explore recent reports suggesting that Google has allegedly instructed content creators not to show favouritism towards other brands, with the threat of ending partnerships if they do. This has been confirmed by various creators on "TeamPixel" and the wording used is really quite strong, and borderline unethical.
This raises important questions about the transparency and integrity of tech reviews, as well as the trustworthiness of some large YouTube channels. Are these influencers being genuine, or is their content overly positive due to brand pressure?
Our conversation also touches on the Samsung Galaxy Watch, a device that has been praised for its features but criticized (mainly by Alex 😅) for its battery life. We discuss how this product might still be suitable for certain consumers despite its shortcomings, and whether the battery issues are a dealbreaker for most users. We weigh the pros and cons to help our audience make informed decisions.
😬 Finally, we delve into the serious allegations against YouTube sensation Mr. Beast. While the motivations behind these accusations remain unclear, we express our concern about how this situation could impact YouTube as a platform, especially in terms of sponsorships and brand relationships. With the potential fallout from this controversy, we ponder the future of content creation on YouTube and the possible ripple effects on other creators.

The lads are all back together after Alex has returned from holiday. It was the first opportunity for Alex and Daniel to discuss the latest Samsung products with both having hands-on and having started receiving the devices in hand. Daniel and Alex discussed their shared experience with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, while Alex updated us on the rest of the ecosystem and spoke of his love for the new Galaxy Ring.
The chat moved on to cameras, with David close to securing a business grant that will assist in upgrading his kit, whilst Daniel spoke of the perils of switching from a phone to a camera, just as David's camera ran out of battery while acting as a webcam!
The boys then moved on to talking YouTube and spoke about the thumbnail A/B testing, the annoying success of putting your face in thumbnails and whether it's worth using timestamps in videos. All of that and more in this week’s episode of Minus Sixteen!

We are back for our first podcast of the year - and as it turns out there is a lot to talk about.
In a few days, there is Samsung Unpacked so we have a good chat about that event and what we can expect. Galaxy AI is going to be the hot topic and we also talk cameras, bezels, displays & notches.
The Pixel 8 Pro is a phone we’ve both used and loved so we chat about the latest features that Google have made available for it. ND filters, shooting ProRes, external SSD and recording in 8K - we cover it all.
And of course - Vision Pro…our take on this ground breaking bit of tech.
Then as we get into talking YouTube we talk about the January blues and the risks of changing laanes and direction as a creator.
Don’t forget, if you enjoy our weekly podcast to subscribe, like, share - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts - to leave us a rating (hopefully a 5-star one!) as well! 🙏🏻

On this episode we are joined by Daniel from Tech with Benefits and as he is Mr Samsung it was too good of an opportunity to not corner him and pry out of him what he thinks may be coming in January when Samsung launches the S24 Ultra. What AI features can we possibly expect? Will LOG or RAW video make its way to Samsung’s flagship phone in ’24? Daniel gives us the inside scoop on what his dream camera set-up would be and Alex talks about shooting 8K on his S23.
Alex covers his recent VLOG-style videos and tells us about where the inspiration came from and Daniel tells us how he makes Samsung content in between events and releases.
David has seen some good growth recently on his channel and pulls back the curtains on what he thinks has been at the heart of that growth. Also, having been hit by the invalid traffic strike in the summer David and the boys cover the latest fallout from it and how creators are still being left without answers.

Tech season is almost here and we’re getting ourselves ready for a busy few weeks ahead.
We talk plenty about the upcoming iPhone 15 - what we’re expecting from it and the way that creators should be maximising their content on it. We talk about Apple Watch Ultra and how you can make it fit in with your Android lifestyle.
Invalid traffic and the mess it’s creating is talked about again as it causes more and more mayhem as David gets hit by it! We ponder why at the same time YouTube are suddenly changing its ad policy - is it just a strange coincidence? And are the leaks from Google over their Pixel 8 all planned?

On this episode Alex & I are joined by Pete Matheson and boy, do we get down to business!
We chat about how important it is to be business-minded when setting up a YouTube channel and having a strategy in mind. Then we go through the monetisation process, AdSense, sponsors and the Amazon Affiliate program.
As Pete’s business and channel has grown he has found a huge benefit in outsourcing too. He has a team working with him now and pulls back the curtains to let us know how that helps and the benefits of it to him.
Artificial Intelligence gets our attention and we look at the benefits it can have for a creator. And then we talk about contracts and how important they can be working with sponsors.

We also cover the benefits of YouTube Shorts to a channel & a creator and what it’s like getting money from sponsors for videos and all that is BEFORE Alex lets rip about what it’s like to have your content stolen by another creator! Explosive, real hands-on stuff.

We mull over the benefits of changing out thumbnails, and titles on videos, and the art of the ad read. How do you bring in sponsors seamlessly to your videos without alienating viewers? We also discuss should you make videos that please you, or make them to please the algorithm?
Video files are massive, particularly the 8K ones that Alex has been shooting, so how do we archive and back-up? Oh, and is Twitter still a useful tool for creators?

Let’s Ramble with Patrick | Minus Sixteen
A couple of weeks back, I hopped on a plane from Heathrow to Brussels, to hook up in person with Patrick.
He found some time for me, to sit down and chat with him about starting of his wildly successful channel, balancing two businesses, family life and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
Last week I posted a video where we took a look at his studio - click on the end card for that. It is the most amazing space!
So…like the man says - Let’s Ramble!!

This time around we cover the continued mis-use of AirTags and the ways in which Apple are fighting back in making them more secure. I mention my day out at Westfield Shopping Centre and how easy it is to buy a Tesla there. Also, I talk about the rumoured new Mac’s for 2022, what I am tempted with, and the possibility that Apple will once again be selling displays under their own branding once again.
