Jesus is not the King you try to control. He is the King you surrender to.
Simple summary:
You want a king who fixes your situation. Jesus came to save your soul.
The crowd wanted power. Jesus brought peace.
The crowd wanted fast results. Jesus worked for eternity.
The crowd wanted control. Jesus calls for surrender.
They praised Him when He fit their expectations.
They rejected Him when He did not.
You face the same tension.
You want Jesus to agree with you.
You want Him to fix things your way.
But Jesus does something better.
He deals with your sin.
He gives peace inside you.
He secures your eternity.
He is not the King you manage.
He is the King you submit to.
Action
Ask yourself one question.
Where am I still in control?
Then act.
Say it plainly.
Jesus, I surrender that area to You.
Do one step this week that shows surrender.
Confess a sin.
Change a habit.
Obey something you have been avoiding.

Jesus suffered and died in your place. Your sin carried a cost you could not pay. He paid it fully so you could live forgiven and changed.
Simple summary
Isaiah spoke about Jesus long before the cross. He described a Savior who looked ordinary and faced rejection. Jesus endured brutal suffering. He took punishment meant for you. His wounds brought peace with God. His death removed guilt and gave new life. Forgiveness is free to you but came at a high price. This truth calls for a response. Receive grace. Stop living under shame. Let forgiveness shape how you live each day.
Your challenge:
Receive what Jesus paid for.
Stop punishing yourself for past sin.
Live in gratitude, not guilt.
Let the cross change your daily choices.
Jesus did not come to improve your religion. He came to give you new life.
Simple Summary:
You ask a hard question. Are you alive in Christ or running on spiritual autopilot. Nicodemus looked strong on the outside. He knew Scripture. He kept rules. He led others. Yet something inside felt empty. Jesus told him he did not need more effort. He needed new birth.
Truth one. Religion and life are not the same.
You attend church. You read the Bible. You serve. None of this gives life by itself. You fix habits and still feel empty. Only God brings life to a dead heart.
Truth two. New life comes from God, not your effort.
You do not earn birth. You receive it. Jesus did the work on the cross. The Spirit makes you new. You move from trying harder to trusting deeper.
Truth three. New birth requires surrender.
Belief means more than agreement. It means handing control to Jesus. You stop managing your old life. You submit to His rule. Nicodemus moved from curiosity in the dark to commitment in the light.
Challenge for Action:
Stop measuring your faith by activity. Ask if your heart belongs to Jesus. Surrender control. Trust Him for new life. Choose delight over duty today.
You panic when you lose what matters most. God feels that way about people. He notices one missing soul. He searches on purpose. He celebrates when one turns back. He sends you to help others find life in Him. Your response proves what you value. Stop waiting. Start seeking. Speak about Jesus while there is still time.
Clear action
· Notice who is drifting.
· Pray for one specific person.
· Start one real conversation about faith this week.
· Celebrate when someone moves toward God.
· Join the mission, do not sit on the sidelines.
Jesus sees you, knows your past, and still wants you.
A woman with five failed marriages goes to the well at noon to avoid people. She carries shame and isolation.
Jesus goes there on purpose.
He offers her living water. He names her broken past. He does not condemn her. He reveals He is the Messiah.
She leaves her water pot behind. She runs back to town. The outcast becomes the messenger.
Her shame turns into a testimony.
So what now?
· Stop hiding.
· Bring your real story to Jesus.
· Put down what you keep trying to fill.
· Tell others what He has done for you.
You pray.
That matters.
Private prayer grows your faith.
But Scripture shows this pattern over and over.
When God’s people gather, humble themselves, and pray together, God moves.
Red Sea. Jericho. Acts. Prison chains falling off.
God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people…”
Not one person. A people.
Some promises are meant for a gathered church.
God honors unity.
God responds to humility.
If you want renewal, do not only pray alone.
Gather.
Humble yourselves.
Pray.
When God feels silent, you keep praying because prayer builds trust, not pressure.
In Luke 18, Jesus tells a story about a widow who keeps asking a corrupt judge for justice. The judge does not fear God. He does not care about people. He ignores her for a while.
But she keeps showing up.
She does not change her request. She does not improve her speech. She refuses to quit.
Jesus is not saying God is like that judge. He is saying the opposite. If a bad judge responds to persistence, how much more will a good Father respond to His children.
The issue is not whether God cares. He does. The issue is whether you will keep trusting Him in the gap between prayer and answer.
That gap is where faith grows.
You felt that in the NICU. You could not fix Beau. You could not control the outcome. You had one option. Go back to God again and again.
Waiting feels long. Silence feels heavy. But silence is not absence. Delay is not denial.
Jesus ends the story with a question. When He comes back, will He find faith?
Not will He find perfect people.
Not will He find quick answers.
Will He find people who kept trusting?
Action
Decide today which prayer you will not quit on.
Name it.
Write it down.
Pray it daily for the next 30 days.
Do not upgrade the language. Do not make it impressive. Stay consistent.
When nothing changes around you, let something change in you.
Keep showing up.
You pray small when you see God as small. You pray bold when you trust God as good and big. Your view of God shapes every prayer you pray. When you trust His heart, you stop doubting His intentions. When you trust His power, you stop limiting what He can do.
Big problems push people toward bold prayers. Desperation clarifies what matters and exposes who you trust. Joshua faced a battle where time worked against him. He marched, fought, and then prayed for the sun to stand still. God answered because Joshua acted in faith first.
Bold prayer works with bold obedience. You pray like God controls the outcome. You work like obedience matters. This week, pray one bold prayer. Ask God for something only He can do. Then take the first step of obedience tied to it.
MOST SIGNIFICANT TRUTH:
Big moments hit every life. You face problems you cannot fix, control, or carry. God responds when His people pray together with focus and urgency. Prayer moves God’s power. God frees people. God does what you cannot.
Big things were happening in the early church. A leader was killed. Peter waited in prison for execution. The church could not fight this. They prayed. They prayed earnestly. They prayed for one clear outcome. They prayed together. God answered. Peter walked free. The church struggled to believe it. God proved His power. God strengthened their faith. Prayer did not change God’s plan. Prayer aligned people with it.
ACTION:
You face a big problem right now. Name it. Do not scatter your prayers. Choose one clear request. Pray with urgency. Pray with others. Set a time. Stay consistent. Trust God with the outcome.
Most significant truth:
God saves people to send them. The church does not wait on the future. The church walks into it by faith, led by the Holy Spirit.
Simple explanation:
In Acts 1, the disciples want answers about what comes next. Jesus gives them a mission instead. He promises power through the Holy Spirit and sends them to be witnesses where they are, beyond comfort, and into the world. Following Jesus always leads forward.
Application:
You step forward, not sit back.
You rely on the Holy Spirit, not your strength.
You live on mission where you are and beyond it.
You choose faith over comfort this week.
You do not work only to earn a paycheck. You work because God sent you there.
Work did not start as punishment. God gave Adam work before sin. Sin added frustration, not purpose. Jesus restored meaning to what sin made heavy. Because of that, your job matters to God.
Scripture says whatever you do, do it in the name of Jesus. That includes emails, meetings, parenting, teaching, labor, and leadership. Your work becomes worship when you show up aware of who you represent.
Scripture also says work with all your heart. Excellence is not perfection. Excellence is faithfulness. You give your best because you work for Jesus, not people. People forget. God does not.
Your job is not random. Your schedule is not an accident. Your workplace is part of your assignment. God uses your work to carry out His mission through you.
Action:
This week, change how you show up.
Work like Jesus is your boss.
Treat your job as worship.
See your coworkers as people God sent you to.
Most significant truth.
You cannot build a strong family on effort alone.
God has to lead it.
When God builds your home, your family grows the right way.
You dedicate your family by making three choices.
You let God lead your home.
You stop fighting His plan and trust Him.
You value what God values.
People matter more than success.
Your spouse and kids matter more than work and money.
You follow God’s plan for your kids.
You guide them.
You shape them.
You point them toward God.
Then you let them go.
Action.
Ask who is leading your family.
Check where your time goes.
Choose God’s way over control.
Change happens through dedication, not decisions. God works when you give consent and follow with cooperation.
Resolutions fail because motivation fades. Dedication lasts because it leads to action. Jesus invites you to follow Him. That invitation starts with consent. Real change comes through cooperation. You deny yourself. You grow over time. Calling follows obedience. The question is simple. Where are you. Consent. Cooperation. Or ready for the call.
Now What?
Stop trusting resolutions. Start practicing dedication.
Ask what you need to deny in 2026.
Ask what you need to return to spiritually.
Decide if you have only consented or if you are cooperating.
Commit to obedience, not intention.
Peace does not come from a calm season. Peace comes from Jesus. When life stays loud, divided, and heavy, real peace stays available through the presence of Christ. Jesus does not remove every storm. He enters the storm with you.
Christmas talks about peace, but stress often wins. The world feels chaotic and personal life feels heavy. The first Christmas looked the same. Political pressure. Fear. Silence from God. Into that mess, Jesus was born and peace was announced. Peace is not the absence of problems. Peace is the presence of Jesus.
Jesus gives three real forms of peace.
Peace with God. Sin created separation. Jesus repaired it through the cross. Trust in Him ends the war with God.
Peace with yourself. Anxiety and fear lose control when you hand them to Jesus in prayer. His peace guards your heart and mind.
Peace with others. Jesus breaks down walls between people. Old grudges, family tension, and division do not get the final word.
Communion reminds you of this truth. Jesus paid for peace with His body and blood. You come to the table as family, not enemies.
Action steps for you
Make peace with God today. Surrender fully to Jesus.
Name what is shaking your heart. Pray honestly and hand it over.
Make the first move with others. Forgive. Apologize. Lower your guard.
Come to the table with a clean heart. Confess sin. Release anxiety. Choose unity.
Real joy does not come from gifts or circumstances. It comes from your relationship with Jesus and the people around you. Happiness fades. Joy lasts. This message shows you where joy starts, what steals it, and how to refocus your life on what brings lasting joy at Christmas and beyond.
Simple action steps for you.
• Check your focus.
Ask what you stare at most this season. Loss or grace.
• Heal relationships.
Ask if being right matters more than love.
• Reorder priorities.
Spend more effort on Jesus and people than on decorations and gifts.
• Give yourself away.
Serve. Encourage. Forgive. Show up.
• Stay connected to Jesus.
Abide in His love daily. Obedience follows love.
You live in a world that feels dark and unstable. Advent tells you something simple. Hope came. Hope is here. Hope is coming again. Isaiah spoke to people who felt afraid and worn out. God answered with a promise. A child would come. A Savior would reign. Light would break through.
Three truths rise from Isaiah 9.
Truth 1
Hope shines strongest when life feels dark. Darkness does not win. Jesus brings light into your fear, stress, and pain.
Truth 2
Hope is a person. Not a feeling. Feelings shift. Jesus stays steady. He guides you, strengthens you, and gives peace.
Truth 3
Hope lasts because Jesus reigns forever. Earthly leaders and systems fail. His rule never ends. His promises stand.
Your next step
Slow down. Read the Advent Guide. Pray with your family. Tell Jesus where you feel the darkness pressing in. Hold onto the Savior who holds onto you.
Your family gave you more than your looks. They gave you habits. Some help you. Some hurt you. You pass those habits to your kids unless you stop them. You stop them by following Jesus. Someone has to say it stops now.
Israel forgot God. They lived like the people around them for hundreds of years. Their kids grew up not knowing who God was. That is what happens when you drift. Old habits take over. Change takes time, work, and a new way of thinking.
God told Israel what to do. Follow me and life will go well. Your choices shape your family. If you change your life, you change your children.
You need to name the baggage you were handed. Bring it to Jesus. He breaks old patterns and helps you build a new path.
Deuteronomy 6 gives a simple plan.
• Do what God says. Your kids watch more than they listen.
• Love God. Obedience proves it.
• Talk about God in normal moments.
• Make your faith visible.
• Stay alert when life is good so you do not forget Him.
Start with your own life. When you change, your kids have a better chance to change too.
We’ve all watched someone we love fall apart and felt helpless to stop it.
2 Samuel 12 shows us how to love people enough to tell them the truth, even when they don’t want to hear it.
Main truth: Love without truth isn’t love. Truth without love isn’t heard.
Here’s what God teaches us:
· Go to God first. Ask if He wants you to step in. Don’t react out of emotion.
· Lead with grace. Nathan told a story instead of attacking. Grace opens hearts.
· Speak with courage. Real love says the hard thing even when it’s uncomfortable.
· Point them to God. Don’t shame them. Remind them who God is and what He offers.
· Let God handle the rest. You can speak truth, but only God can change a heart.
Nathan’s story points to Jesus, who tells us the truth about our sin and then forgives us with grace.
Your job isn’t to fix people. Love them, speak truth, and trust God to do what you can’t.
Action step:
Pray first. Speak with love. Leave the results to God.
Good relationships depend on how we talk and listen. The way you communicate shapes every part of your life. God doesn’t only want a strong relationship with you, He wants you to have strong relationships with others too. That starts with how you speak and how you listen.
Your past affects how you handle conversations, but Jesus gives you the power to change that. Real growth happens when you stop blaming others and look at what’s going on in your own heart. Most conflict points to something in you that God wants to fix.
Healthy communication happens when people feel safe, honest, and not judged. When others know they can trust you, they’ll open up, and healing can start. Your words can either build people up or tear them down.
If you want better relationships with God, your spouse, your kids, or your friends - start communicating with honesty, humility, forgiveness, and love.
Main Truth:
Talking God’s way changes every relationship.
Call to Action:
Start today. Listen more. Judge less. Use your words to heal.
This week we’re taking time to look back and thank God, and to look ahead at what He’s still doing.
God has been so faithful, and He’s not done yet.
The angel once asked Hagar, “Where have you come from, and where are you going?”
That’s a good question for us too. Everything behind us has helped prepare us for what’s next. Philippians 1:6 says the same God who started His work in us will finish it.
Here’s what we’re celebrating:
25 years of God’s goodness. We’ve grown from about 250 people to over 2,100 each week.
1,863 baptisms. Lives changed by Jesus.
Spiritual growth. More people reading the Bible, growing in faith, and building stronger families.
Faithful giving. Up 11%, showing hearts that trust God’s mission.
But we can’t stop now. The building that once worked for us can’t hold what’s coming.
Just like a farmer has to plant new fields to keep growing, it’s time for us to take new ground.
God’s calling us to reach beyond Choctaw.
- Our mission now is simple:
To introduce people in East Central Oklahoma to Jesus and help them grow in relationship with Him. - Our first step is this Easter, two services in McLoud.
- This isn’t just a test. It’s the start of what’s next.
Here’s how you can help:
Pray. Ask God to guide us and open hearts.
Give. Help make space and build what’s needed to reach more people.
Go. Join the team heading to McLoud.
God’s done amazing things, but He’s not finished. The best is still ahead.
Your kids won’t remember how much money you made or the stuff you owned, but they’ll never forget how you lived your faith. Isaac’s story reminds us that faith isn’t inherited by accident; it’s modeled, spoken, and trusted out loud. Abraham showed Isaac how to trust God in hard moments. Isaac learned to hear God’s voice for himself. He spoke blessing over his kids and trusted God with their future, even when life was messy. Parents, that’s our calling too. You don’t have to be perfect. Just be faithful. Your walk with God is the greatest inheritance you’ll ever leave.
Action Challenge:
Live your faith in front of your kids. Let them see you trust God, hear you speak life, and feel you release control of their future into His hands.
Every man is passive in some area - marriage, parenting, faith, or finances and that’s often where he’s failing. Jacob’s life shows what happens when passivity takes over. He repeated the same broken family patterns he grew up with, stayed silent when his daughter was hurt, and allowed compromise in his home.
But even in Jacob’s failure, God was faithful. God used his broken family to bring Jesus into the world. The same God can use your story too, but only if you face your passivity, take responsibility, and start leading your family toward Him.
Main Truth: God is faithful even in your failures, but it’s time to stop being passive and start leading.
Eli looked like a great parent. He led the nation, had influence, and looked spiritual, but he failed where it mattered most: at home. His sons disrespected God, and Eli did nothing. He cared more about their comfort than their character.
God isn’t impressed by our parenting image. He wants our hearts, and our kids’ hearts too.
Eli’s story warns us that:
Good parenting manages behavior. Godly parenting shapes hearts.
Good parenting aims for appearances. Godly parenting aims for faithfulness.
Good parenting takes kids to church. Godly parenting brings Jesus home.
Good parenting goes alone. Godly parenting walks in grace and community.
Parents, success isn’t raising kids who behave, it’s raising kids who believe.
You can win in public and still fail at home if your kids don’t know and love Jesus.
The good news? Where Eli failed, God remains faithful. It’s not too late to start leading your family toward Him.
Call to Action
Ask yourself today:
– Am I raising kids who act right, or kids who walk with God?
– Have I brought Jesus into my home, not just my Sundays?
– Will I parent from my strength, or from God’s grace?
Parenting isn’t about producing perfect kids, it’s about faithfully sowing seeds and trusting God. Even the only perfect Parent, God Himself, watched His children rebel. Adam and Eve had the best home, the best environment, and the clearest truth, yet they chose sin. Israel had God’s love and provision, yet turned to idols. Your kids also have free will. You cannot insulate them from sin, you cannot make them obey truth, and you cannot give them enough to make them grateful. What you can do is plant God’s Word in their lives, model faithfulness, and love them even when they rebel. The outcome belongs to God. Parenting is not about control, it’s about trust.
Action:
- Stop carrying guilt for your child’s choices.
- Stay faithful to sow truth, even if you see no immediate fruit.
- Love your kids, especially the ones who break your heart.
- Trust God with the outcome.
Psalm 111 is all about celebrating God. Like fans cheering when their team wins, we should cheer for God because He never fails, never breaks a promise, and always shows up. Celebration isn’t about how we feel, it’s a choice. The psalm gives us five steps: choose to celebrate, remember what God has done, see who He really is, trust His promises, and keep praising Him every day. If we see God clearly, we won’t be able to stop praising Him. The challenge: don’t just watch others worship, join in and make praise your way of life.
Jesus shows us that the wilderness is the space between identity and ministry. At His baptism, God declared who He was: “My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Immediately after, the Spirit led Him into the wilderness where He faced testing and temptation. The wilderness revealed truth, demanded self-denial, and exposed Him to Satan’s attacks. Jesus was tested to prove His character and tempted to abandon His mission - through questions of His identity, God’s love, and His purpose. Yet He stood firm. The same is true for us: if God is preparing us for something, there will be a battle for our lives. The enemy wants to derail us before we ever step into God’s calling. But we are not alone, God sends strength and reinforcement. The wilderness shapes us into people who not only know what we believe but live it.
The Core Truth
If you choose Jesus, you will face the wilderness. And it’s there, between calling and ministry, that God prepares you to live out your purpose.
Life can swing quickly from the mountaintop to the wilderness. Elijah knew this in 1 Kings 19: after bold victories, he crashed into fear, exhaustion, and despair. God used that wilderness moment to teach him, and us, four truths:
(1) you can be right with God and still face hardship
(2) rest and nourishment matter for spiritual clarity
(3) God speaks in whispers, so quiet the noise
(4) feeling alone doesn’t mean you are alone.
If burnout has broken you down, God is ready to build you back up. Rest in Him. Listen for His voice. Lean on community. Step forward in His strength.
Life doesn’t always go the way we planned. Hagar didn’t choose her story, she was given away, used, abused, and cast out. Twice she found herself in the wilderness with no idea where she was going. But both times, God showed up. He called her by name, reminded her that He hears, and gave her hope for a future. Hagar’s life teaches us two things: life isn’t fair, but God still sees. We don’t always get to choose the wilderness, but we do get to choose our attitude. We can fight, complain, or give up—or we can trust that God’s plan is better than ours. The wilderness may be the place where God changes what we’ve resisted for years. So if you’re in a season you never wanted, stop asking “Why me?” and start asking “Where is God leading me?” He sees you. He hears you. The question is: will you follow Him, even when it hurts?
The wilderness is never wasted. It feels lonely, scary, and hopeless, but in the Bible it is where God shows up. The wilderness is a place of testing, revelation, and preparation. Moses, David, Elijah, even Jesus, all had wilderness seasons. It is where failure turns into second chances, where God heals old wounds, gives rest, and brings clarity. The wilderness is not forever, it is a season. The question is not, “Why am I here?” but, “What does God want me to bring out of this wilderness?” If you will let Him, God will use this season to transform you and prepare you for what’s next.
Challenge: Don’t waste your wilderness. Stop running. Listen for God’s voice. Let Him use this season to heal, reset, and prepare you for your greater purpose.

The service celebrated his leadership, reflected on the impact he has made, and gave our church family a chance to show gratitude for his years of service. It was a meaningful time of recognition, appreciation, and celebration for a life devoted to serving others.
Life doesn’t run on your clock. Sometimes heartbreak, loss, or chaos interrupts your plans, and you’re left wondering what God is doing. Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that God rules over every season, both the ones we celebrate and the ones we want to escape. His timing may feel mysterious, but it is never meaningless. He uses time not just to shape our days, but to shape our eternity. Your job isn’t to manage or fix every season, it’s to trust Him in it. Be still, remember He is God, and believe that He makes all things beautiful in His time.

The miracle of feeding the 5,000 wasn’t just about bread and fish, it was about trust, surrender, and stepping out with what little you have… so He can show you what He can do.
Three Life-Changing Truths from the Feeding of the 5,000:
1. God Puts You in Over Your Head for a Reason - Jesus didn’t ask Philip how to feed the crowd because He needed ideas. He asked to teach him—and us.

You don’t need to figure it all out. You just need to show up, give what you’ve got, and remember who holds the basket.
Following Jesus is about continually taking the next step toward Him—not achieving perfection all at once.
We often get discouraged because we think spiritual growth should be instant, like the disciples immediately dropping their nets and following Jesus. But in reality, it’s a process. Just like Peter, you’ll have moments of meeting Jesus, moments of following Him, and moments of going back to old habits. The key is not to quit when you fall but to get back up and keep moving toward Him.
Jesus calls you to go deeper in your relationship with Him, not just once, but over and over. Before God ever calls you to do something for Him, He calls you to know Him. The “task” will come later, but the first step is relationship.
Sometimes life hits you with needs you don’t know how to meet—money, health, relationships, or just making it through the day. The story of the coin in the fish’s mouth shows us that God sees it all. He knows your needs before you ask, and He can provide in ways that don’t follow human logic. Your job is to trust Him, obey even when the solution feels strange, and watch for how He shows up.
We kicked off our Fish Tales series this week, and we’ve got to be honest,this one hit home. We looked at the very first fishing story where Jesus calls His first disciples, and spoiler alert: He didn’t go after religious experts or people who had it all together. He called regular guys, fishermen. right in the middle of their everyday, ordinary lives.
Here’s the thing… Jesus is still doing that today!

Welcome to TheRoad sermon podcast! Today's message explores the life of David and how he faced different seasons, good and tough times. We'll focus on Psalm 34, a special psalm he wrote during a really hard period.
David's life had five main parts, from being a shepherd in Bethlehem to becoming the king in Jerusalem. But the most challenging time happened in the Cave of Adullam, where he wrote Psalm 34. Imagine him, feeling alone, hungry, and running for his life.
In the sermon, we learn that David found things to be grateful for even in tough times. Just like how we appreciate summer more when it's cold, David learned to value important things when life got difficult.
David talks about four things he was grateful for: God listening to him, God being bigger than his fears, God providing for him, and God protecting him. Even when David had almost nothing, he realized God was always there for him.
The sermon ends by inviting us to think about what we're grateful for in our lives. Just like sharing a tasty cookie, David encourages us to share the good things God has done for us with others. The message wraps up by inviting everyone to experience the goodness of God.

An arrow is made of 4 main parts: the point, shaft, fletching, and nock.
· The arrowhead represents purpose.
It is only when our children know their purpose, they will be able to live their purpose.
· The shaft represents faith.
The greater the faith in Jesus the greater the outlook on life our children will have.
· The fletching (feathers) represents character.
If our kids are not strong in Christ, they will be weak in flight.
· The nock represents relationships.
If you aren’t positioning your children correctly in life to be released well, they will fly off the mark.
A great arrow is crafted with precision, but it is proven with testing.
When our children learn to receive and understand our correction, it’s easier for them to receive and understand God’s correction.

So we are starting the new year with a series called ARE YOU SERIOUS? The idea came from a conversation we were having in the office among ministers and one of our ministers said “I want people to know we are serious about following Jesus.” This entire series is going to be built on the theme of Are you Serious—today about reading the Bible. Are you serious about growing spiritually? Are you serious about making a difference? Are you serious about reaching others and helping them grow spiritually?
There are those in scripture like Isaiah—who when God called responded “Here am I send me.” Those like Mary who simply responded “May it be done to me according to your word.” Which brings us to this…
When God calls it is not courage, strength, talent or ability that counts—it is submission. All God wants from us when He calls is a yes, simply say yes!
Are you going through a season or circumstance that you don’t want, but if you could be honest for just a moment you would look at life and go—I need this. Are you struggling to be faithful as God does His work? Would you be willing to model the life of Joseph today—Just be faithful. Maybe God is doing something in your life that you don't want, but you desperately need!

Gratitude: Four Things for which I’m Grateful
We often say that God is good, but I want you to think about the difference between saying God is good and saying Rick is good. Here is the truth, Rick may have the appearance of good about his life in brief moments, but the truth about Rick’s life is that he is just like you, he is broken and the nature of his life is toward sin.
To say God is simply good, is to put Him in the category with all the other things we describe as good. What is different between all that we know and God is that the character of God is always good. There is no evil in Him. The essence of His being is always good, it is good that is pure.
I’m learning to say, “Lord, if you don’t want me to have it, then I don’t want it.” “If it ain’t going to make me more like you, then God keep it away.” And the more I say these things, the more content and trusting of the Lord’s “no’s” and “nothings” I become. You see, God’s plan for us is to live a life full of joy, and yet we can’t be happy with what we have until we’re thankful for what we don’t have. PRAY.

· Maturity is loving the presence of God more than the provision of God.
· The test of maturity is when we lose provision.
Gratitude makes me realize I still have something to learn—Job 42:5

Today we are going to be talking about one of the issues that separates so many people of faith, the issue of baptism. There are some who believe that you baptize by sprinkling, some pour, others by dunking, some by both. There are some who believe that babies should be baptized, others believe that only adults should be baptized. Still others believe that if you have never been baptized you will not make to heaven. I love that we are in this series entitled Oops. Our marriage and parenting stuff that we do here is so great. When pastor was thinking through this series, I began to selfishly think of things I wanted to hear our pastor preach on to help me in my parenting. I’m sad I was out for week 1, but last week was amazing. Today I’m finishing up this series for us and we’re going to talk about commitment to our faith.
Let me ask you all some questions: how many of you have children? How many of you have little children? How many of you have children that are outside the house (empty-nester)? How many of you want children some day?
Great. Now let me ask you this question: how many of you want or would want your kids to have a better relationship with Jesus than you have? How many of you would want your kids to be more committed to our faith than you are? Me too. That should be all of our answers.
Today we’re going to talk about the #1 way you can help your child have the best possible relationship with Jesus.
We are in a series called Oops!—how to ruin your child’s life without knowing it. We have been looking at some mistakes we all make when it comes to parenting that sometimes we are not even aware that we are making. Last week we looked at the topic of taking the past of least resistance as a parent and the dangers of making that decision.
Today we are going to be talking about responsibility in the life of a child and the mistake we often make as parents is making our child’s life easy.
So we are starting our annual parenting series today. We are looking at mistakes we make without knowing it as parents that in the long run make life difficult for our children. Often we make those decisions in an attempt to make our life easier. There will be three major principles that we are going to address and practical, biblical points that support those principles. This week we are dealing with the mistake of taking the path of least resistance, next week is the mistake of making my child’s life too easy, and finally the mistake of not following Jesus Seriously.
If you have been with us all year and you finish this quarter you will have read the entire NT through in a year. If not, you probably read more Bible and grew more spiritually than you have at any point in your life. If you haven’t started or are just starting—jump on board.
The wisest man who ever lived was a guy named Solomon. In 1 Kings 3 God gave Solomon the chance to ask for whatever he wanted—-great moment. Solomon asked for wisdom to guide God’s people. Because he did not ask for riches, victory or long life—God gave him wisdom and all those things. Did you know that during the reign of Solomon silver and gold because as common place as stones. (2 Chron 1:15)
Today as we talk about sex I want us to go to God’s book and the wisest man who ever lived said about God’s gift of sex to married couples.
So we are in a marriage series and Mother’s Day just happened to fall in the middle of the series. We are planning what we address in marriage on Mother’s Day and we decided on a sermon called MARRIED WITH CHILDREN. So I begin to do some research on the topic and I will tell you that I was literally thrown into a tailspin by what I found. Then I began to talk to couples and found out that the research was spot on…So here we go.
James 1:2-4. I want to give you the big picture of what these verses are saying to us—-Everything that happens is happening to make us more like Christ. I need you to put those glasses on right now—What ever happens in your life is happening, or can be used to move us toward Christlikeness. Loss, struggle, frustration, conflict—all of it is moving us to become more like Jesus. This gives new insight into Romans 8:28l AND WE KNOW THAT GOD CAUSES ALL THINGS TO WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE WHO LOVE GOD, TO THOSE WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE. Think of that verse in terms, not of all things working out, but of God working His will in your life—which is you and I becoming conformed to the image of Christ.
With that in mind let’s pray and talk marriage…
This week I’m going to break from my normal way of preaching and talk to us about 3 questions that will help us all have a better marriage. I mean that’s what we want right? We want our marriage to be the best they can be! I want my marriage to be the best it can be. And I want you to have the best marriage you can have. I think it’s safe to say this, but I don’t think any of us got married and before hand thought to ourselves, how can I have the worst marriage possible? Yet, I wonder how many of us got married thinking we’re about to get our needs met, over thinking I can’t wait to get to meet my spouse’s need.
The reality for each of us is that if we aren’t careful, intentional and work on our marriage to love and care for our spouse’s correctly, our marriages can become more like roommates than lovers, enemies rather than friends, competition over helpmates, and at worst indifferent over passionate.
What is happiness?
If you asked someone to quickly define happiness they might say—Happiness is feeling good. Well yes, but if that is all happiness is than a cocaine addict would be the happiest person on the planet. Right, staying high is a “feeling good” but how many happy addicts do we know? Not many.
Happiness is much deeper than feeling. Much science and research has gone into the study of happiness. One definition is that Happiness is the feeling that life is good, meaningful and worthwhile. While that may be true researchers have discovered a couple of really interesting realities about happiness.
We are calling our celebration of Easter, the day that changed everything. Why is that? Better yet is it really true that Easter changed everything. I want to share a few facts with you about the life of Jesus to get us started…
There are 2.4 billion Christians in the world today—out of a world population of 7.9 billion people. That is just slightly less that 1/3 of the worlds population that identify as a follower of Jesus.
Jesus never wrote a book—-More books written about Jesus than any other topic in the world. The Best selling book in all the world is the Bible with over 5 Billion copies sold—the runner up is Don Quixote with 500 million. The Bible has sold 10 times more copies than the runner up. That doesn’t count all the free versions of the Bible.
Jesus never wrote any songs—yet more songs are written about him than all other subjects combined.
Jesus never built a building—yet more architecture is built to honor him than anything else in the world.
Jesus never created any art—more art dedicated to Jesus than anything in history.
Jesus never traveled more than 200 miles from his hometown—yet his followers are in every place on the planet.
What happened? The resurrection. We split our history by the resurrection. Your Birthday is dated by the resurrection. The resurrection is the day that changed everything! That’s a really broad statement, what did it change for me, what can it change for you?
I’ve done some really dumb things in my life and have made some really bad decisions, and it’s encouraging to know and see that throughout the pages of Scripture we see that the people that God used most was the ones we naturally would think that God would use least. Today, we’re going to look at the story of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15. I love this story. I’ve been reading and listening to sermons about this Scripture what seems like my entire life.
The title of today’s message is this: Bad to the Bone - Reckless Living
The Truth of today’s message is this: No matter how far from God you may go, you are never too far to come back home.
We are not designed to live from an empty cup—when we run dry we reach for the easy and temporary source of comfort. That means that everyday we need to drink from water that truly satisfies. That we must sit in the presence of Jesus daily
This week we start our second quarter of the BRP—I have been so encouraged by how many people are doing this. I believe one of the reasons we are seeing God do what God is doing is that we are all on the same page, hearing God speak through the same passage. If you haven’t picked up your reading plan do so today or get it online.
We are doing the Bible Reading plan because of how we define discipleship. We believe a follower of Jesus Learns about Jesus, Lives like Jesus and Leads others to Jesus. So today we are going Hebrews 11 and we are going to see what we learn, how we live, and then how we can use that to lead others to Jesus.
We are in this series called Bad to the Bone. We are looking at the lives of men and women who were—well they were bad. What we are discovering is that their bad wasn’t bigger than God’s grace. That some of the baddest, became some of the greatest.
Today we are looking at the life of a man who sunk as low as anyone in all of scripture. This is a message that is burdensome to share it contains so much evil. And yet in the end we find that what Paul said is true, where sin did abound, grace did much more abound. This bad man is named Lot, if this man can make heaven you and I can make heaven.
There’s just something about David. He seems to be a mirror for the world and almost a reflection of our hearts. I often feel like David is a clueless character in some crazy action and adventure story that should be played by Ryan Reynolds and yet I’m bewildered that he provokes such ruin that could easily be avoided. If I’m being really vulnerable with you: What I hate about David is what I hate about me, and yet what I love about David is what I hope to become.
Listen to me very carefully, David had a profound understanding of the weight of his own personal sin, and yet he also had an uncommon understanding of God’s love. David’s story is a rags to riches story; It’s a good ole Underdog story; it’s the story of an ordinary guy that God used in extraordinary ways; it’s the story of a no-one becoming some-one by knowing the Only-One. Listen to me: It’s our story.
We are in this series Bad to the Bone where we are looking at some of the really bad men and women of the Bible. We have discovered some truths—The Bible is clear there is no one that does good, no not one. We are broken. We do a great job of covering up our brokenness, but the truth remains—Matthew said it this way—-None of us are good enough to get in heaven, yet all of us are bad enough to go to hell. But Hell is not God’s heart nor desire for us His people. So, God sent His Son Jesus to come and die on the cross for our sins, so we can be made right with God and be free from the sin that condemns us. And here’s why we want you to know these stories: If there’s hope for them, then there’s hope for me and you.
Samson had God going for him. God had a plan for Samson’s life before he was born. Here is the thing about God’s plan, it’s always going to work. How differently could Samson’s life have been if he had worked with God rather than against God.
Samson had parents that were in his corner. Parents that did the best they could to instill a spiritual heritage into Samson’s life, but he refused to listen. Ultimately, Samson was bad to the bone because he choose to be bad to the bone. The pain in Samson’s life was the result of Samson’s choices.
There are going to be some of us here to today and we have chosen to be bad to the bone. Here is what I want you to know—Bad to the bone can be fun for a while, but ultimately as we will see in Samson’s life the end is painful.
The most important lesson we learn from the life of this man who was bad to the bone is that you are never too bad to find freedom in Jesus. Maybe your life is like Samson’s. Maybe you feel as though you have lost it all because of bad choices. Our maybe you see your life in how you respond to the rules, your love for dangerous places, the people you call your friends. Today is a day to come home.

This morning we’re in week 2 of our latest series entitled “Bad to the Bone.” As a kid, I loved putting my George Thorogood tape in my tape deck and listening to his single entitled the same. You remember the song? This is how it goes… SING “On the day I was born…The nurses all gathered ‘round…And they gazed in wide wonder…At the joy they had found…The head nurse spoke up…And she said leave this one alone…She could tell right away…That I was bad to the bone…”
Although the song is catchy and fun to sing, most of us probably don’t like to think of ourselves as being a bad person. And yet the Bible tells us the truth of each of our lives is that we are bad to the bone. The Bible says it this way: In Psalm 14:3, David writes even of his day, “All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.” Paul says in Romans 3:23, “all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.” John adds to this in 1 John 1:8 and says, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.”

In this eight-week series we are looking at eight different Bible characters that have eight very different stories of life change. And here’s why we want you to know these stories: If there’s hope for them, then there’s hope for me and you.
What defines you? All of us are defined by something—sometimes it is an accomplishment or achievement. Something about which we are proud, something positive. But often than not what defines us is not what we have done well, but where we have failed. More often than not our bad defines us. Our marriage fails and we are the divorcee. There was a season of life that was out of control and we become the addict. We fail at business and we are person who declared bankruptcy. Far too often it is what we wish no one new that becomes the definition of who we are in this broken world.
Last week we began to defined discipleship. We discovered there are three things that will be true if you are following Jesus, if you are truly a disciple—You will be learning about Jesus, you will be living like Jesus, you will be leading others to Jesus. Learn. Live. Lead.
Today I want to take you to one of the most important passages on discipleship in scripture. John 15—READ. John 15 is an allegory. Allegory is a story in which everything has meaning. Jesus even explains the allegory. Jesus tells a story of a vine, a vine dresser and the branches.
In this allegory all the main characters are clearly identified. In verse 1 Jesus identifies himself as the vine. Then there is the vine dresser—God the Father. The role of the Vine Dresser is to maximize the impact of the vine. I want to call your attention to verse 2 to the words “Takes away” from the Greek AIRO. The primary definition is “to lift from the ground.” Which may be truer to the text since the job of the Vine Dresser is to nurture the vine. Rarely did a vine dresser ever cut away a vine, but would lift it and tie it to the trellis in order to train the vine. This was called “training.” Their secondary priority was to snip shoots from the vine called pruning. You will understand why this is important when we get into the message.
Then there is the branches—look at verse 5—I am the vine, you are the branches. This passage is not about salvation, this passage is about growth in our relationship with Jesus. This passage is about following Jesus, what it means to be a disciple. Jesus is going to address our position, production and purpose in the kingdom.
We are starting our year out with a series called Disciple: The year that changed everything. Last week Matthew shared about our reading plan called ROAD. If you have not started the reading plan pick up the materials today at the HUB and join us as we read God’s Word together. If you complete the year, you will have made your way through the entire NT. In addition you will be leaving a spiritual heritage for your family, you will have connected with God and others in a deeper way.
We have spent the past few years giving emphasis to our DNA—Connect, Reach, Build and Care. Who we are as a church, this series gives emphasis to our mission statement—We exist to make disciples. What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? Jesus’ invitation to people in the NT was to follow and in following they became disciples. So what is a disciple? We throw the word around but we don’t often define the word. If you step back from the Bible and look at it as a whole three things emerge that define a follower or disciple of Jesus.
The Great Commission that Jesus left us to fulfill says MATT 28:19-20—GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THAT I COMMANDED YOU, AND LO, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS , EVEN TO THE END OF THE AGE.
If you break that passage down you will see that there are three steps to discipleship. There is the learning, the living and the leading. Teach them (Learn) to observe (Live) make disciples (Lead).
Title: How to experience life to the full in 2022.
Truth: When I make God all I want, He will give me all I need.

Time is measured in minutes; life is measured in moments.
If we aren’t careful in life, we can find routines and rhythms that don’t help us live life to the full, but live life safely getting by.
Jesus didn’t come for us to endure life and get by; He came for us to experience life to the full.
If we’re not “in Christ” then we cannot experience the things of Christ nor experience the life He gives.
To be “in Christ” is to be in the Word of God.
It is impossible for 2022 to go how you desire it to go if you aren’t connected to the source that can provide what you need.
In Christ, we find that God freely gives us what we all desire and want for our lives.
Life change isn’t the result of known Truth but applied Truth.
The best way to increase your quality of life is to be on the ROAD with a few of your closest friends.

Begin the new year—We are going to launch one of the most important series of our church next week. It’s called DISCIPLE: The year that changed everything.
There will be some who are excited about being part of this, others will be fearful. I want to encourage you to decide now that this year you will follow Jesus more completely than you ever have. Part of that decision is to join your church as we begin reading together through the NT. Can you image as all of God’s people are reading the same thing what potential that opens to the church of God.

What I want to make sure for our lives is that we have all the momentum of our life taking us in a direction that will benefit our lives. So here is our beginning question—Where is the momentum of your life taking you? Momentum is defined as the strength or force gained by motion or a series of events. Are the habits and disciplines of your life putting you in a place where if you took your foot off the gas the momentum of your life will continue in the right direction?
We are in a much needed series about Peace. We are learning that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of Jesus. Matthew did a great job last week by leading us through the name Immanuel—God with Us.
Did you know that there are 790 verses about peace in the Bible? If you were to study all of those verses you would find that there are three kinds of peace the Bible talks about. There is spiritual peace, there is emotional peace, and there is relational peace. If you want to think about those another way you could say the Bible addresses eternal peace, internal peace and external peace.
I want to make this as practical and simple as I possibly can—eternal peace is peace with God. Internal peace is peace with self. External peace is peace with others. Wouldn’t it be great to go into this Christmas season and in your life to experience all three kinds of peace? To know that you are at peace with God, Internally you have peace, and especially this time of year when everyone gathers, that you have peace with those around you. That is what we are going to look at today.
When times get hard or scary it’s easy to get to the point that we simply start asking for God to come back and either take us to Heaven with Him or intervene in our circumstance so we can avoid it. Does that make sense? I've heard Pastor Rick say this and it's so true: We want to avoid hardship and yet God is experienced most vividly during hard times. Can I just submit to you to you today, the reason I believe the Christmas story is so relevant in our world right now is because there are some hardships that we're having to endure in our nation that we can't avoid, and God wants us to all see and know that He has come and is right here with us in the midst of it all, holding our hand?
This entire series that we're beginning this week is about peace. And I can personally think of no better time to hear a message about peace than right now. In this entire series we're going to teach you biblical principles that will help you have the right mindset to show you that you can be in peace even when the world seems to be in pieces.
This may have been one of the most practical series we have done on parenting. We have talked about how quickly our families can fall away from pursuing Jesus, we talked about the spiritual war going on for our families, the influence of media on our families and today we are talking about one of the most difficult issues facing families—discipline and authority in a message called WHO’S THE BOSS?
Last week Matthew shared about going to spiritual war for your family. If there is a front line in the battle for our children it would be media. Media has become our default. We have become addicted to reality shows that are the furthest thing from reality. Media in one form or another has become a surrogate parent for many of our children. What are the long term effects of over indulgence in media? What happens to a child who spends 4-6 hours a day on some form of media?
When it comes to technology and media the Bible doesn’t have any specific verses that mention media or technology. So as a follower of Jesus we begin to look for principles that apply to our lives. That is what we are going to do today—what principles does Bible give us for raising a Jesus follower in a post Christian culture?

I don't know how strong in the faith and bold and courageous your children, or even your friends children are, but I do know this: At some point, our children, will experience some really scary difficulties, hardships, and battles. However, God doesn’t want you to be overwhelmed in caring for them. He wants you to be confident in what He can do through your willingness to be obedient to Him and His Word. AND ultimately, He wants your children to be full of faith and confident in God’s ultimate victory.
The title of today's message is this: Our children are at war.
The truth of today's message is this: We can’t help our children win their war, when we fight the wrong battles.
Every year we do a parenting series that is one of most requested series we do. We do that because parenting is tough. But the reality of the world in which we live is that if you are going to raise a child to follow Jesus the job of parenting is becoming tougher by the moment. There was a time when culture worked with you to raise a child who honored God and pursued faith. Those days are over. At this point in our world culture is working against you, not with you to raise a follower of Jesus. Our world has changed. That led us to name this series COUNTER CULTURE: RAISING A FOLLOWER OF JESUS IN A POST CHRISTIAN CULTURE. I’m going to tell you that this series will probably make you uncomfortable, at the same time I will tell you that it may be one of the most important series we have ever done on parenting.
