Our thoughts determine what we do, say, and become. They are directly responsible for our reality. Our thoughts are mental guides; they lead us to light or they seduce us into darkness. Where are your thoughts taking you? All humans have bad thoughts, but how we process what is in our minds will determine if and/or how we act on them. This podcast helps listeners understand that what is in our heads impacts us; it discusses effective strategies that can be used to transform negative thinking. Good thoughts can lead to good decisions. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cherie-hardy/support

It's hard, but when you accept that your marital status is determined by God, you will experience a preternatural peace. While size matters, being smaller or fit does not guarantee that you will be treated with respect and love. Women who have never been "fat" a day in their lives have been mistreated, abused, lied to...and even killed. Big women, please stop trying to get men to look beyond your weight. Shedding pounds does not lead to shedding problems. Let those men get what they want. Seek out God for direction and guidance. If it is His will that you marry, you will. Dry your eyes, and focus on all the good things in your life rather than fretting about not being married. Listen and learn.

There is a difference between "schooling" and education. Understanding this is the key to empowering yourself and others. Our commUNITY is responsible for making sure our children know their history, not school systems. All we need are EDUCATORS who might not have a formal title or position, but have wisdom and knowledge, and are willing to share it with others. At the same time, we cannot teach about the past with a bitter lens of victimhood, but with a growth mindset of reflection to get the lessons to create a better future. When we focus on our creativity, resilience, strength, progress, natural brilliance, and character in spite our trauma then we can become indestructible and productive.

There is so much we can learn by studying the behavior and practices of other people whether as individuals or collectively. Many immigrants come to America with financial disadvantages, yet they are able to create wealth by sharing their resources, having a salad-bowl mentality (instead of the melting pot), and taking advantages of a FREE education. Instead of being bitter, we can become better by applying their strategies to our situation. Don't resent immigrants, RESPECT them, take some notes and maybe adopt their mindset.

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

The film, Emancipation which was directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Oscar-winner, Will Smith, should be seen by every human being. We should never forget how the strength, love, and hope allowed our beloved ancestors to survive the brutality and evil of slavery in America. The film focuses on Peter who has been savagely beaten and sent to a work camp which separates him from his wife and family. Peter's faith in God, despite all that he has endured, is what helps him to overcome his fears and runs to freedom. The movie chronicles his miraculous escape and survival in the swamps of Louisiana as he is being pursued for re-enslavement.

This movie also has nuances of the misuse of the Bible. Did God create slavery or men? Why doesn't God always intervene and stop our suffering? Would you still have faith in God if you suffered the horrors of slavery?

Nelson Mandela would have turned 105 years old today! There are countless lessons we can learn from his legacy of activism, reconciliation, strength, courage, and forgiveness. This episode talks about his life as well as Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune. Here are just a few of his empowering quotes.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

"No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated."

"I cherish my own freedom dearly, I care even more about your freedom."

“Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.”

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

“Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”

“Money won't create success, the freedom to make it will.”

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.”

When you are feeling discouraged, remember this powering poem, "Footprints in the Sand".

"One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."-Author Unknown

Making an emotional homerun involves working through our emotions; being introspective (looking inwardly at ourselves); doing our best and letting go of the rest; having integrity and character no matter what others are doing; and making sure we do not speak while we are in a fragile emotional state. The good news is that emotions are fleeting and regularly change. This means that bad emotions can be transformed into good ones. We must understand that we can control what emotions dominate our minds. We can elevate our thinking and emotions by being grateful, choosing to focus on the positive instead of the negative, and shift our focus from worrying about what others are doing and deal with ourselves, the one thing we can truly control.

We all have problems, but complaining about them will not solve  or change them. There is a remedy for complaining that will help you feel happier and stronger.  NOT complaining can also help your brain. Studies have shown that complaining can negatively affect your brain; when you complain, the size of your hippocampus (the part of the brain that deals with memory and problem-solving) gets smaller and is damaged. While there is so much to do, being intentional about setting good examples increases the chances that a child will not experience a premature death due to bad character and destructive choices. This episode teaches you how to love yourself and make peace about how you look. It all begins with replacing toxic thoughts about beauty with healthy ones. “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.”—Audrey Hepburn (1929 – 1993)

Psalm 26Of David.1 Vindicate me, Lord,
for I have led a blameless life;
I have trusted in the Lord
and have not faltered.
2 Test me, Lord, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;
3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love
and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

4 I do not sit with the deceitful,
nor do I associate with hypocrites.
5 I abhor the assembly of evildoers
and refuse to sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence,
and go about your altar, Lord,
7 proclaiming aloud your praise
and telling of all your wonderful deeds.

8 Lord, I love the house where you live,
the place where your glory dwells.
9 Do not take away my soul along with sinners,
my life with those who are bloodthirsty,
10 in whose hands are wicked schemes,
whose right hands are full of bribes.
11 I lead a blameless life;
deliver me and be merciful to me.

12 My feet stand on level ground;
in the great congregation I will praise the Lord.

The word, “friend” is often used mistakenly to refer to someone who spends time with us. However, a true friend is like a rare gem; he or she is hard to find and is priceless. What distinguishes the difference between a friend and an acquaintance is how that person responds to our trouble. It is easy for people to hang around during pleasant and/or easy times, but enduring friendship requires sacrifice, forgiveness, longsuffering, and most importantly, unconditional love. A person can know hundreds of people but can count on one hand his or her true friends. The first and most important purpose of a woman involves being righteous; worshipping God; and serving Him, the One who created her.  This might be done in a myriad of ways; for example, through a career as a teacher, doctor, or business owner. This purpose also might (or might not) be connected to a man as a wife. However, women must be careful not to make men their idols. While women should respect men, they must be mindful that they never make men their god. God made the world, not a man. Women should honor righteous men, but they must make sure that their life is God-centered, not man-centered. God is perfect; a man is imperfect. Women should always seek God's wisdom and guidance to understand their purpose and how it will be manifested in their lives. Listen and learn.

Some people have asked, "If God is real and so good, why do bad things happen?"  While the answers are not simple, one thing is clear: God does not kill, rape, abuse, steal...; people do those things. God does not intervene because He is not a gangster or bully. He is not going to force people to do what is right. It is only through a connection with Him that the world will change. This is not through religion, but RELATIONSHIP.  This episode encourages people to communicate with God about the problems in the world, especially those who are poor, young, old and defenseless. God is still merciful and hears the cries of people who petition Him. Using our spiritual power is the key to making our world better.

This episode helps Black women understand why they are single and how they can shift their focus from pursuing men to fulfilling their divine mission. All good things, including love, come from God, but through people. Learning and (unlearning) how to see your true worth is the key to being happy in spite of your marital status. Tony Gaskins, Jr., Dr. Eric Thomas, and Jason Wilson, the author of Cry Like A Man,* and Dr. Dale C. Bronner, Bishop of Word of Faith Family Worship Center are four examples of righteous Black men cited in this episode. Listen and learn.

*These men are mentioned because they have national platforms and their materials are easily accessible to a wide audience via books and YouTube. Please note that there are countless other righteous Black men and if you know one, share their information with others.

Learn how you can avoid stress, disease, pain, and death by NOT getting intimately involved with people merely based on "attraction". Attraction is not enough to have and/or build a strong relationship. Therefore, it is important to not form intimate liaisons with people based on a single attribute or characteristic that we find attractive. To protect yourself from unnecessary trouble, stress and pain, ask yourself is he cute or caring? Is he fine or fatal? Is he kind or a killer? Is he responsible or reckless? Is he helping you or hurting you? Only move beyond attraction when you and the other person share the same values and character and relationship goals.

“Most people want to change the world to improve their lives, but the world they need to change first is the one inside themselves.”- John C. Maxwell

Criticism is one of the least effective ways for improving behavior or solving problems. However, when we search our own hearts; seek the Creator for guidance and wisdom; and take constructive action to change ourselves first, we can become good examples to follow. While it is oftentimes uncomfortable and arduous, we must examine ourselves first, remain humble to God's inspection and then we can become sources of light that overshadow darkness and perversion in the world.

All humans (regardless of their gender) have the same basic needs and when this simple fact is ignored in relationships, problems are guaranteed. The remedy is to put humanity first with each person treating another the way he or she wants and needs to be treated.

Black children are required to attend school, but are they EDUCATED when they leave? It is critical that children get the KNOWLEDGE they need to create solutions, innovate, and produce things that empower themselves and others. It might seem radical but Black parents must adopt a new paradigm of education by understanding that THEY should be their children’s main teachers and let the school be a tutor. Schooling and education are two different things. Black parents must shift the focus to getting information, and only the information, that HELPS their children become LEADERS.

There are two schools of thought about sex. One involves anything goes because after all, it is “your” body, and you have the right to do what you want. On the other hand, some people believe that the body does not belong to us, but to God, the only One who controls life and death. In this episode, listeners are reminded of “Nigel’s Story” from the book, On the Down Low (2004) by J. L. King. Nigel was a gifted teen who tragically died of AIDS and gave the disease to a young woman because he didn’t understand the dark side of sex.  All behaviors have both good and bad consequences. To make an informed decision, it is critical to understand all sides of an issue. Not fully understanding this, can cost a person his/her life.

Saying that there are blessings in our struggles sounds almost oxymoronic, yet it is true: there are countless benefits to facing challenges. When you see struggle as an integral part of life, you will learn and grow from it. The greatest blessing of struggle is that it forces us to be dependent upon God. We achieve, not in our own limited power and strength, but in our Creator's infinite power and grace. Furthermore, struggle teaches us to be patient, humble, and more compassionate. The good news is that struggles end and when they do, we become examples of “overcoming” for others. Once you accept that struggle is an integral part of life, you can have peace.

Humans, especially young ones, imitate (emulate) behavior that they see. Therefore, it is paramount that adults are good examples and SHOW, and not just “tell” how to be and do good. Parents and others must STRIVE to be empowering teachers of light; no role model is ever perfect, but each of us must make a sincere effort to be righteous. And when adults make mistakes, they can teach lessons on how to recover from them with dignity.

The human brain is not fully developed until a person is in his/or mid-twenties. It is critical that adults monitor the images that children see as well as the messages that they listen to when they are very young. The key is finding good media that is appropriate for undeveloped minds. Whatever children see or listen to should be teaching them something constructive; it should HELP them in every dimension of their lives. This is radical, but adults should consider turning off all media until they have carefully selected movies, music, etc. that is wholesome. Humans naturally emulate (imitate) what they see and hear repeatedly. Some of the destructive behavior that we see today is a result of children being inundated with toxic images and messages. Children are not born bad, perverse, evil… On the contrary, they learn directly and indirectly through their personal experiences (or lack of the right ones). Yes, we are all capable of doing wrong, but when we are taught HOW to do the right things (and WHY) with love, protection, and provision, we will likely engage in constructive activities. Of course, we are guaranteed to make mistakes, but we can learn how to correct them, then move forward to BETTER choices. Lastly, children must be taught to see evil for what it is and how to resist it. This can only be done with the help of adults who are able to lead by example (Listen to part two of this series).

It’s important to see advice as a tool. No one thing can be a panacea for your problem or dilemma. What might work for someone else, might not be best for you; one size does NOT fit all. Additionally, it’s paramount to always look at both sides of a situation. Seek to understand both the good and bad aspects of everything. Every situation involves pros and cons. There are always benefits as well as possible negative outcomes. It is important to know all sides of a situation to make an informed, good decision. Anyone who is not telling you the consequences of a practice does not have your best interest at heart. Lastly, don’t ever follow advice that creates pain and suffering. Good counsel leads to improvement. Even if it takes a little time, things should get better. While attention (being noticed and nurtured) is a need, we must be mindful about how we seek it. Getting attention in the wrong ways and from the wrong people can be damaging and deadly. The paradox is that attention can be positive and negative. Therefore, we must make sure that our sense of self-worth and identity is not determined by neither praise nor criticism. Our strength must be rooted in the Divine One who created us. We must resist performing on life’s stage just for the applause or anything that can be fleeting like the wind.   Instead of seeking out attention from others, give yourself the right attention to live the BEST life possible. Most importantly, take time to FOCUS on God, the one who created life and love.

If a man isn't connected to the Almighty, he will treat women like trash and never contemplate his loss.

Learn the truth about why so many Black women are single. Beautiful, kind, intelligent, generous, kind and loving women get lied to, cheated on, abused, left, and even killed. The truth is that when a man doesn't see a woman as God does, he will not be appreciate her and show respect, love, honor... to her.

In life, there are people who will accept you. On the other hand, there are people who won't. In fact, that is their right and prerogative. The good news is that you won't die, go blind, go deaf... because someone decides not to embrace you, your behavior, your personal choices, or practices. The way to be happy is to focus on the people who care for you and support you rather than fixating your attention on people who don't agree with or accept you. It is spiritually and emotionally damaging to give people the power to control your emotions. Make the effort to first love yourself despite what you perceive as your flaws, mistakes or imperfections. Then, set out to find like-minded people who will love you just the way you are. Of course, it's good to work on changing things that can improve your life, but you don't have to "earn" someone else's acceptance.  Be you. Strive to be your best self. Be grateful for the people who love the imperfect you and don't worry about the people who don't.

Dear Son,

In December of 2021, Andreae Lloyd was brutally killed by her boyfriend. At the time, she was pregnant with the couple’s third child. According to her family, she was planning to end their 11-year relationship. Stories like this tragedy occur thousands of times every year, but it doesn’t have to happen.

While it’s painful when someone decides to exit our lives, it shouldn't cause us to hurt ourselves and others. Doesn’t something destructive to cope with the pain only leads to more problems.

You will live if a woman decides to leave; you will not go blind or lose your hearing… if a woman walks away. If you were living before you met this woman, you can continue living when she's gone.

True love doesn't hurt. When you love a woman, you want the best for her, even if it's without you.

In this episode, I will share some empowering ways to constructively deal with a breakup. Healing and recovery are possible if you do things the right way.

Love,

Mom

For some people, getting credit is as American as apple pie and baseball. Generally, we don't have the money to make big purchases, so we get loans and credit cards to help us. However, we usually end up paying for an item twice or multiple times after the fees and interest are added to the principal. While it's often difficult to avoid this money trick, it is possible. Some of the solutions to this problem is saving money, spending less, buying only what we can afford, and living within (or below) our means to circumvent this ensnaring pit of debt. At the same time, credit can be a financial paradox because if you are disciplined and savvy, it can benefit you. Listen and learn.

African-American people are not only plagued with racism by those outside of their community, but colorism deepens the racial pain because of the wounds that are created by people from "inside" the Black community. The negative psychological effects of favoring people with lighter skin over those with darker skin have weakened the strength of Black people and caused an unnecessary chasm among those who can least afford divisions that inhibit individual and collective growth and racial progression.

Life can be so overwhelming sometimes that we feel weak and stagnant. However, prayer, communication with God, can strengthen us and help us see and feel The Almighty's presence. The problems that we face are not created by God, but by people who have chosen to live according to their flesh instead of the holy spirit. And because God is the ultimate Gentlemen and does not force us to do what is right, we suffer. At the same time, His unfailing love can transform us and renew our hearts and mind. God will restore us and heal our minds when we ask Him to.

The first step to peace is going to God with a sincere and humble heart even when you've made mistakes and committed wrongdoing. In fact, that is the time that you need to go to God the most. He has been waiting on you to cast your cares upon Him. Moreover, you will never have to worry about being judged, ridiculed, criticized, shamed, or talked about. Because He loves you, your secrets are safe with the Almighty. Come to Him with your burdens and He will give you rest. And, discover a preternatural, indescribable peace no matter what you face.

Remember, God doesn't change life, He changes us. A relationship with Him does not exempt us from difficult circumstances. However, a personal connection with Him allows us to see the treasures in our trouble, the messages in our messes, and opportunities in our obstacles.

Lastly, remember to make prayer a daily practice. Pray without ceasing and taste and see that the LORD is good. Every time you pray, your relationship with Him becomes stronger. This is what allows you to trust Him and know that God is faithful to hear our cries and guide us to the solutions to our problems.

Many social scientists believe that what we listen to can affect our psyche, behavior and culture. With this in mind, what do we teach our children about music that glorifies and romanticizes misogyny, violence, sexual perversion, drugs, death, immorality, and crime? Is it possible to stop the gifted rap artists from being senselessly murdered by changing the music that we accept in our community? Listen to this special conversation with hip-hop and rap enthusiast, Greg Manley as he explains why the rap music was created and why its embraced by the people who often become victims of its destructive effects.

Unfortunately, some ministers have taught spiritually damaging messages about "giving to the church" that are filled with guilt, fear, anxiety, condemnation, damnation, and worse. Whether it was out of ignorance or intentional manipulation for evil, their lies have hurt thousands of people who believed them. Healing is possible and this God-inspired episode reminds you to give to the right people from a place of love, not anxiety nor fear. Ministries need money to operate and we should financially support (generously as best as we can) the true servants of God, churches, and charitable organizations that work to empower others, feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless, job training for the unskilled, rehabilitate the lost, heal the sick, etc.  God is not going to curse you if you don't give to greedy, selfish people who live a life of excess and hedonism. Learn how to freely, monetarily bless those who truly NEED your help.

Happy New Year! 2022 is going to be good to you! As you start a new year, reflect on the following quote: “Your life is your garden. Your thoughts are your seeds. If your life isn’t what it should be, you are watering the weeds.”—Unknown

Using a garden as a metaphor for life, think about the seeds (thoughts) you are allowing to create your reality. When you plant good seeds, you produce a beautiful garden. Have the courage to pluck out the weeds (negative people). Weeds soak up vital nutrients that plants need to fully grow.

Make sure you get the right fertilizer (information). Information leads you to solutions to your problems and answers to life’s toughest questions. Most importantly, make sure your garden gets water (God). Daily talk to Him and listen to His voice. He is like a spring or river that keeps wisdom flowing to your heart. Keep in mind that you will likely reap only the seeds you have sown, so when you plant love, it grows in your life. When you plant respect, joy, charity, peace, and other wonderful things that is what you can expect to enjoy later.

Most plants need sunshine (good stimuli) so make sure you are mindful of what you’re watching and listening to. There are negative consequences to scattering spiritually and mentally destructive seeds in your garden that promote violence, sexual perversion, drug and/or alcohol abuse… If you plant negativity in your mind, nothing good can germinate. The good news is that you control and determine your own thoughts. You possess the power to select what ideas to keep and meditate on. You won’t lose a limb, go blind, or die if you don’t feed your mind with things that don’t uplift and encourage you.

Choose to plant positive seeds and you will rejoice when harvest-time comes. Life is a garden so tenderly tend to it with the right tools and especially care.

Sons, when you see a beautiful woman make a mental note but be careful and respectful about what you say and do to her. Don’t misinterpret how a woman wants you to respond based on how she looks and/or dresses. It’s best that you say and do nothing even if you feel a woman is attracted to you. (You can proceed with caution by first getting clarification if that’s okay.) Women often seek out admiration from men, but they might not want you to say or doing anything but “look”. Unwanted attention (both verbal and physical) will be considered bothersome, and many women will feel like their being harassed.

You don’t have to lose your job, marriage, freedom, and/or your life because of sexual impropriety. You also don’t want your lust or attraction to result in you being tricked or trapped by a woman who perceives you as morally weak and an easy target to be used. Listen to this episode about how to be an honorable man and not put yourself in a position to be accused of disrespecting or dishonoring women.

When you don't know your worth, you will allow yourself to live as a victim to bad people and optional, negative circumstances. As His son or daughter, you deserve respect, honor, and dignity regardless of how you look, your socioeconomic status, educational level, race, etc. While you come through people (your mother and father), you come from God. December 25th is the day that many people around the world commemorate the birth of Jesus (Savior), the Christ (Messiah). While historians are unsure of Jesus’s exact birthdate, they agree that Jesus was a real preacher whose ministry started in early AD. There are also people who have faith that Jesus was more than a minister or prophet. They believe that he was God’s only begotten son who was sent to Earth to redeem humankind’s relationship with Him. Moreover, Jesus was sent to teach people the truth about God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth because religious leaders had distorted His image and the meaning of true spirituality. Most importantly, Jesus was born to save people from their sins and eternal damnation.

Whatever your religious affiliation, you have absolutely nothing to lose by studying the life and teachings of Jesus, namely in the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) of the Holy Bible. It’s critical though that you pray for wisdom, understanding, and discernment prior to your study. It is just as crucial that you open your heart and mind to learn and grow spiritually. Remember, God is not a gangster; He doesn’t spiritually highjack you or force you to believe in Him. No, God is the ultimate gentleman who patiently and lovingly waits for you to open your heart for Him to reside.

As you begin and continue your life-transforming study of Jesus’s life, ask God for wisdom on how to apply the lessons you are gleaning. The Bible is not a book written to you. However, it is a compilation of true stories about what people did during a certain period of time in history and God’s interaction with those people. Therefore, you must seek out the principles in each story. When you get quiet, reflect, and meditate on what you have read, the Holy Spirit will customize the lessons according to your own personal needs. When you apply what Jesus taught, your life will be constructively transformed forever. You will experience greater love, peace, joy, and so much more.

To know Jesus is to know unconditional love; when there is no Jesus, there is no love. Try and experience for yourself the power of Jesus. Your connection and your acceptance of him as your Savior will lead to eternal life.

Schools are mirrors of what happening in our homes, communities, and nation. However, in addition to nurturing our children's intellect, schools cannot fail to teach children lessons on respecting differences; constructive ways to work through conflict; the power of empathy; the rippling effects of hurting others; and how to distinguish the violence that is fabricated through the entertainment business, and the deadly and painful consequences of violence in reality.

We all lose when the threat of violence is ignored, justified, or trivialized. The good news is that lives can be saved and violence can be stopped when parents, teachers, community leaders, and all stakeholders connected to schools learn, grow, and work together to demonstrate respect for others, even those who are different from them as well as and teach healthy methods for resolving intrapersonal and external conflict. Children must see models of good behavior.

Getting the right information and having a strong support system for building peaceful communities can lead to better outcomes in our society in general. School psychologist and licensed professional counselor, Vivian A. Nichols, gives empowering information, particularly for parents, on ways to eliminate violence at home and in our schools.

“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.”—Henry Ford (1863-1947)

Fear is a natural emotion that we were wired with to protect us from harm. For example, we should be afraid of lightning or large, wild animals. However, irrational and unchecked fear can become dangerous and paralyzing. Many men secretly suffer with fear about mundane things like acceptance, success, health… When this fear is not constructively unmanaged, it can inhibit a man from doing and being what he should. It can lead to depression and destructive behaviors. The good news is that fear can be overcome with the right information, as well as supportive people like mentors, good family members, and friends.

In this special episode, husband, father, and officer in the US Airforce, Quintin Echols, shares empowering and healthy ways for men to work through fear. Listen and learn how changing your perception and facing fear is the first step to moving through it.

Do not fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out [anyway]. -Benjamin Franklin

This episode will be particularly empowering to women who are frustrated about being single. Once women understand who really controls their marital status, they can be free to stop looking for love outside of themselves. Getting a husband (or man) is not like buying a coat. The same way you can go out and "find" the coat you need and want cannot be used for finding love. Furthermore, your beauty, intelligence, good character, loyalty and kindness does not guarantee you will be treated with respect and honor by men. Beautiful, intelligent, kind, loyal, and loving women get abused, lied to, mistreated, cheated on, and abandoned by men every day. Discover why this happens to protect yourself and your children. The truth is that women who can be happy without a man are the ones who make the best wives.  Listen and learn.

You do not have to end your life. The world needs you. Make the choice to become an inspirational story instead of a negative statistic or tragedy. As long as you have a pulse, you have a purpose. Touch your chest. Do you feel a beat? That’s the evidence that you are supposed to be here. Whether you know it or not, our divine Creator wants you to alive; you can become an example of strength and triumph to show and tell the world.

While problems are an integral part of life, there are always solutions. However, they are rarely easy to find alone. Therefore, in moments of despair and depression, it’s critical to reach out to others. If you feel estranged from family or friends, call one of the hotlines listed below. Just know that whatever pain you feel right now can be healed. Taking your life is no guarantee that your pain will end. (There are stories of people being pronounced dead and were revived. Some of them shared being a place of unbearable pain.)

Throughout history people have endured hard times, but they have overcome them by having the right thoughts and attitude as well as engaging in the activities that constructively transformed their outlook and circumstances.

Here are some things that can work for you, too:

  1. Open your heart to receive help. Believe that you can do what others have—triumph over trouble. Better days are ahead, but you must embrace this. As long as you have hope, you can experience sunshine after life’s storms.

  2. Connect with good people. Join a group of people who understand what you are going through and are willing to help you heal.

  3. Seek out medical, spiritual, or mental help to you get to the root of the problem. Problems cannot be solved until you understand where they come from and why they exist.

  4. Shift your focus from what you perceive is bad and spend your time and energy looking at the good. There are so many things in your life to celebrate, but you must recognize them.

  5. Don’t be afraid to let go of toxic relationships when you experience maltreatment, abuse, and disrespect. You increase your depression, disease, and despondency when choose to be around people who don’t your worth and value. You are priceless and deserve to be loved and honored. If people don’t know this, stop trying to convince them. Continue to love them but let them go.

  6. Engage in activities that build you instead of those that can destroy you. Using drugs and alcohol and/or misusing your body is only exacerbate the problems. When you do bad things, you are going to feel bad. It becomes a vicious cycle until you feel you can’t go on. You can stop this.

  7. Give yourself time. Change is a process; it’s not an event. Take a small step toward getting better and keep going. Resist resorting to old bad habits until the new (good way) becomes normal. There is a reward for resisting negative thoughts and behavior. You are a victor. Share your story of redemption with others. It will save lives.National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

"With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world" is a line taken from one of my favorite poems, Desiderata. It was written in 1927 by a lawyer, businessman, and poet named Max Ehrmann (1872-1945). This beautiful literary work is filled with the timeless wisdom you need to achieve greatness. It gives me pleasure to share it with you now because "Bad Thought Therapy" strives to help you discover the silver lining behind life's dark clouds.

What we become, say, and do begins with what is in our heads. The good news is that we have the power to control which thoughts dominate our minds and which ones to listen to and follow. Therefore, it is critical to "think" about the message we can salvage from a "mess"; the opportunities in the obstacles; the treasures in the trouble; and the purpose in the pain.

Each human being is born with the valuable gift and superpower of choice. It is up to an individual to choose good over bad and right instead of wrong despite whatever he or she might experience. With love, I encourage you to decide in your heart and mind to live and not merely exist. Once good thoughts are tattooed in your brain, everything you need for your journey will manifest itself in amazing ways.

I hope you enjoy Ehrmann's poem as much as I have over the years.

“The oldest, shortest words, 'yes' and 'no', are those which require the most thought.”—Pythagoras (570 BC – 495 BC)

The word, “No”, is an effective life preserver that often prevents us from drowning in our carnal desires because we don’t NEED everything we want anyway. In fact, some of things we want are harmful and take us away from doing good. It is important to keep the following in mind the next time you experience a no: if you were living without something in the past or present, you can continue living without it in the future. Believe that “NO” can be an acronym for “Next Opportunity” or “New Options.”

Forgiveness is something that must be given and received by all human beings. We all make mistakes and need forgiveness. We all experience pain caused by others and we need to forgive them. Forgiveness is a spiritual endeavor that involves releasing negative thoughts and feelings associated with an offense. While it is usually not instant and automatic, forgiveness is a critical process for healing our thoughts and heart. It takes time and intentional effort. Therefore, we must choose to work through potentially dangerous emotions like anger, resentment, and revenge. These natural, human feelings are harmful if we don't work through them. When negative emotions dominate our lives, we lose peace, joy, love, and productivity. Furthermore, we become blind to the good that remains after loss and suffering.

Most people cannot forgive without faith in God. Letting Him be our personal judge and jury, removes the overwhelming burden of having to defend ourselves or fight for justice. Yes, we should make an effort to correct wrongs by lobbying for better laws, rights, behaviors, etc., but if this strips us of our strength, energy and time, it is best to resolve to let go and let God work spiritually on our behalf. This is hard because on the surface it seems passive and weak, but it takes more strength to walk away.

Forgiveness also involves trying to understand others. It helps us discover rich spiritual treasures hidden beneath our trouble. It helps us to find lessons about ourselves. Because God is not a gangster, He doesn't not force people to do His will. Because He does not always intervene in our issues does not mean that He is less loving. He cares and He loves us unconditionally. He will transform the bad that someone (not Him) did to us into good if we will allow Him. He will open our eyes to see the light in darkness and the purpose of pain. When we forgive, we lose absolutely nothing. We must surrender to God and try it. We will see that it is good and that it will save us from total despair.

Lastly, forgiveness does not mean forgetting. It doesn't mean that we are obligated to have relationships with people who maliciously hurt us. In fact, we are wired with the power to remember to protect ourselves and our beloved. Only disease and death can destroy memories, but when we rightly use them, we can choose wisely and do better. As Lewis Smedes (1921 - 2002) once said, “Forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future.”

I pray that you resolve to free yourself from the self-imposed prison of unforgiveness today and always.

With Love,

C. Chérie Hardy

While owning a business is arduous at times, it is one of the most personally, civically, and financially rewarding endeavors you can pursue. However, the right "thoughts" about business is the key to enjoying long-term success. It is the only way that you can sustain and grow your business.

Here's a fact that most people don't hear often about entrepreneurship: there is really no such thing as "working for yourself". A business can only be impactful when its primary goal is to work hard for and SERVE others. The truth is that money from business comes as a result of genuinely caring for people. In order to supply what your prospective customers need and want, you must be willing to have a sincere mindset about empowering people with the best there is to offer.

Additionally, you must be flexible, humble, and respectful. Be open to listen to your customers. It's reasonable not to follow everything they suggest, but at least be humble enough to hear what they have to say. Trust me, their ideas could be positively transformative and save your business. It's also critical that you are willing to make adjustments and improvements to how you do things to make your customers' experiences better. Be respectful to people even when they are not. As Michelle Obama once said, "When they go low, you go high." The customer is not always right, but you must strive to be at all times. Doing the right thing, even when it's hard, will lead to a reputation of integrity.

Most importantly, you must have passion and an unwavering belief that you are doing something you were divinely called to do. At the same, be protective about your dreams and goals. Everybody is not going to support your business and ideas. People might say discouraging things based on their own bias and sometimes from their own ignorance about business, but when you have an unshakeable faith in the Creator's providence, no one can destroy your hope. Only allow good, encouraging people in your inner circle; they are essential for staying focused on the right things. Their unconditional love and support allow you to soar above and beyond your most beautiful dreams.
