This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony create a PSA in hopes of turning around the Angels misfortune! With the franchise open to trading Mike Trout, the duo try to envision potential landing spots should a trade happen. Tom & Tony also discuss the potential career-ending arrest for Julio Urias, the weird Sunday between the Yankees & Brewers, & the injury that ends the season of Jasson Dominguez. Finally, the duo take a look at the Pennant Chase Race and predict how the standings will shape up down the homestretch of the season. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony turn their attention towards the two franchises that continue to make a mockery of themselves, the Angels & White Sox! Shohei Ohtani's injury & the ensuing waiver moves keep casting a dark shadow on this year's trade deadline decisions, while old issues are brought to light from a former MLB star! The White Sox may have made forward progress with changes at the top, but head-scratching decisions & incidents hinder said progress! Also, Tom & Tony reflect on the career & legacy of Stephen Strasburg after it was announced he'll be retiring. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony tackle all of the drama that's taken baseball by storm from the past two weeks while also exploring ChatGPT for the first time! From there, the duo covers everything from Kevin Brown's undeserved suspension, to untidy clubhouse culture cohesion. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony meet earlier than normal to break down the most significant trades bartered prior to the deadline! After a few minor stories including one historic night for Framber Valdez and some less than ideal fates for Domingo German and Liam Hendriks, the two dive right in and go trade by trade! From the Rangers bolstering their pitching staff for a run at October, to the Mets reloading their farm system with some elite prospects, to whatever the hell the Yankees did, you bet if it made the headlines, it was covered here on Episode 70 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony turn up the heat and turn off the censors (figuratively) to ring in Episode 69 of the show (oh yeahhh). To celebrate this most significant of milestones, they commemorate the induction of Scott Rolen and Fred McGriff into the Hall of Fame as well as take a look ahead to next year's ballot. Once that's out of the way, the two set their sights on the upcoming trade deadline; in particular, the highest profile names that may be on the move! From the Cardinals, to the Mets, to both side of Chicago, no stone is left unturned when predicting who will go where! Remember to tune in next week to see how wrong they were. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony reflect on the events of the All-Star Break! From the MLB Draft, to the festivities that may or may not have been watched in Seattle, the duo gets you up-to-date on the important events you may have missed! After that, Tom and Tony mock the Blue Jays for getting (collectively) no-hit by the lowly Tigers, marvel in the continued disappointment that is the Yankees offense with a new face leading the helm, and welcome a few new big leaguers to The Show! Wrapping up the episode is a second half outlook for some of baseball's most intriguing teams of the first half, where the duo details how they believe said teams will fare going forward. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony return from a week-long hiatus to break down the beginnings of baseball's midsummer classics in the Home Run Derby and the All Star Game! But first, the two reflect upon Domingo German's masterful work in throwing MLB's 24th ever perfect game! Once that's through, the duo runs down the finalized All Star Game rosters, making quick note of who shouldn't have been there and who should've gotten the call. Next up comes the Home Run Derby, of which there were only six participants at the time, so Tom and Tony attempt to predict who will fill out the bracket! And finally, the episode concludes with the two drafting a team of the first half in the same manner they would approach a teams of the month draft! Be sure to keep an eye on social media to vote for who drafted the better team! Join us as we usher in one of the greatest parts of every summer here on Episode 67 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony return from vacation a little tanner (lie) and a little behind on all things baseball (truth), so they spend an episode playing a game of catch up! The two begin, how else, with a dive into the drama-ridden saga of the Oakland A's and the incredible reverse boycott their fans recently organized! The tone then shifts to a somber one to discuss the hospital wing of injuries the two missed over the past few weeks highlighted by the possible end to Stephen Strasburg's career, another huge blow to Jacob deGrom, a tragic end to Tony's favorite player's season, and plenty more! After a few more transactions including the call ups of Henry Davis and Elly De La Cruz, it's time to go Around The Horn! The duo goes over the recent trough both New York teams are slogging through, the surprising surge of the Reds and Marlins, the ongoing dominance of the Diamondbacks, and everything in between! This week on the Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony kick back on a slow news week and opt to talk about two very uplifting returns to the game! This comes after brief discussions on Tony's encounters with Yankee Stadium's lizard man (yes, you read that right), and his utter trouncing of Tom in MLB The Show. Once the intro is past, the two get to talking all about Liam Hendriks and Jose Altuve making their season debuts! The duo once again touches upon Hendriks' inspiring trek back to the game and slam dunk campaign for comeback player of the year. Following the relatively short Major Headlines segment, Tom and Tony get started constructing their Teams of the Month for May! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony manage to not bring up the A's nearly as much this week, but rather trade that off for a healthy helping of Yankees banter - principally their war of pettiness with the Blue Jays over the course of their series. The Yanks don't hog the spotlight forever though, as it was also a weird stretch for the Mets, whose week was defined by an opposing team's logo on their screen, an FCC violation, and an ill-advised move for Gary Sanchez (which is now made null with time). After wrapping up the rest of the news highlighted by Trevor Bauer, Glen Kuiper, Anibal Sanchez, and multiple accounts of baseball on bird violence, the duo gets into the main attraction of this week: the ranking of the worst Yankee moves of the 21st century. In honor of the DFA of Aaron Hicks, listen as Tom and Tony relive the horrors of Bronx Bombers past on Episode 64 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony somehow have to talk about the Oakland A's again after their acquisition of land in Las Vegas! Their small stadium plans pretty much confirm the inevitable and the end of Major League Baseball in Oakland. In more cheery news, the duo discuss Kenley Jansen's hall of fame case after his 400th save and reflect on the top moments of Mother's Day! Tom and Tony finish off the relatively short news week by going Around the Horn to visit the good, the bad, and the ugly across the teams (and divisions) of baseball! Hopefully, next week's news cycle will have more stories, but until then enjoy the past week of baseball with Episode 63 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony assess the state of several big name teams who are either flying high or crashing hard almost midway through the season's second full month! Before that, however, the duo begins with a rather somber major headline as they pay tribute to the recently passed former pitcher, Vida Blue. The two recount his outstanding career, exchange some memorable stories and offer their best wishes and condolences for the legendary A's, Giants, and Royals pitcher - may he rest in peace. After an update on recent retirements and injuries (including a new record for the quickest recovery from Tommy John), Tom and Tony touch upon an all time pitching performance out of their alma mater and deep d(r)ive an unfortunate slip up out of the Oakland broadcast booth. Once that's all out of the way, the duo goes team by team to talk some baseball! They cover everything from the late month implosion of the Yankees and Cardinals, to the slower stalling out of the Mets, to two pleasant surprises out of the AL West! Tune in and find out what they had to say about some of the best and worst performances to begin the month of May! It's all here on Episode 62 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony mourn for the denizens of Oakland as they're forced to watch a third major sports franchise leave for greener pastures in as many years, this time it's the Athletics' turn to move to Vegas and chase that big dollar. The two are also pleasantly surprised by another small market team and their immense success in April, this time (somehow) it's the Pirates! After a couple of transactional moves in the forms of several extensions and even an outright release, the duo discuss Max Scherzer's "sticky" situation that led to a 10-game suspension. Once that's all done however, it's time to revive a favorite of ours in the form of the Teams Of The Month Draft! Who constructed the best team based on their performance in April? Be sure to keep your eyes on our social media and cast your vote, then tune in next week to see whose team reigns supreme! Whether it be a historic winning streak by a team down in Florida, or a pitiful excuse of stadium operations that has led to a possum displaying its dominance in Oakland, the duo's got it covered! Tom and Tony also report on the controversial measure of beer sales extending past the 7th inning in some venues, as well as the Domingo German incident (don't worry, we'll save Max Scherzer for next time)! Also, apologies for the lack of weekly episodes or social media content so far. Life has just gotten in the way, not for anything bad. As a side note, the next few episodes may be bi-weekly as well. However, there was still plenty for the duo to divulge right into. From a five-way tie for first in Pool A, to Japan's sheer domination in Pool B, and all of the heart-warming stories in-between, this year's rendition of the global event has done a fantastic job celebrating baseball and what it means to each country that has participated! There's still more baseball to be seen from the WBC, so make sure to tune in like Tom and Tony will to see how things shape out in the final days! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony are excited for the start of Spring Training! The biggest story coming from both Arizona and Florida has to be the implementation of the pitch clock, lack of shifts, and the enlarged bases. Tom and Tony certainly have their own opinions on all three and they express them throughout the episode. What else is in store? How about our obligatory check of the transaction tracker, where a superstar has officially been taken off the market for next year's free agency class. Also, we've got part two of our How F'd Are They Scale where we grade each team in the National League based off of how doomed they are as the regular season approaches. Take in the beginning of March and Spring Training with The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony get the ball rolling on their coverage of the World Baseball Classic! The rosters for all 20 countries participating were recently announced, so the two spent some time analyzing each one with the tournament just two weeks away! But first, they comb through the most recent batch of trades and signings from across the league! Some of the more noteworthy moves include Zack Greinke's return to Kansas City, the Padres locking up their ace long term, and another pair of team friendly extensions out of the Blue Jays and Astros. From here on out, the focus shifts almost primarily to the rosters of the World Baseball Classic! The duo go through all four pools of the tournament and break down some of the more obvious favorites from each one. These favorites include, but are not limited to, the USA, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Venezuela. After leaving off with more room for a more in depth WBC analysis closer to the tournament, Tom and Tony spend the remainder of the episode reviving a segment from last year's offseason: the How F'd Are They Scale! With five categories ranging from Ain't No Stopping Us Now to Everything Is On Fire, the two assess the state of each American League team going into the 2023 season. Get ready for the second half of the scale along with plenty more next time! But until then, get comfortable and enjoy the latest from The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony breathe a sigh of relief as the BBWAA did not let us down for a change and elected someone deserving into the Baseball Hall of Fame! Before the duo gets to that though, there's always a fresh batch of trades and transactions to comb through! This week's highlights include Miami acquiring the reigning AL batting average champ, the Rays GM remembering he can extend his players and locking up three of them, and Aroldis Chapman's official departure from the Big Apple (thank God). After acknowledging the accusations placed upon White Sox pitcher, Mike Clevinger, and the passing of all time Oakland A's great, Sal Bando, it's time for the two to talk Hall of Fame! Congratulations are in order for Scott Rolen: the only player from this ballot elected, joining Fred McGriff as the only two individuals to be honored in Cooperstown this year! The two dispute claims that Rolen should not have made it at all and review the cases for some of the biggest names still on the ballot like Helton and Wagner. Once that's done, Tom and Tony look ahead to next year's ballot and the new faces they'll see on it. They highlight, in particular, generational greats in Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer, and Chase Utley. They proceed to wrap up with nods to the remaining newcomers, offering an extra homage to Captain America himself in David Wright, and his unfortunate case that will very likely not result in a HOF election. To close the show, the two bust out an old favorite in the Deep Drive Into Left! They're double dipping this time around with hilarious updates out of the Rockies and Angels camps; in addition, listen to the opening of the Rockies portion to hear two twenty-somethings laugh uncontrollably at very immature humor - hey, it's what they do best. All this and more is featured here in Episode 54 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony relish in not having to think about Carlos Correa or his free agency madness for another wee-oh wait we spoke too soon. The duo begins this one with another look at the Hot Stove for the latest moves and transactions (as of 1/15/23)! These moves are headlined by Boston actually paying one of their superstars in Rafael Devers to keep him in town long term (yes, really), a trade between Detroit and Philadelphia that saw the Phillies snag the Tigers' All Star closer in a shuffling of parts, and, of course, what is hopefully the final chapter in the Carlos Correa saga as he finds his way back to the Twins! The two then pause the show to offer their best wishes and pray for a speedy recovery to Liam Hendriks as he faces his recent diagnosis with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The second half of the show is entirely dedicated to the constructing of what we're calling a Diamond's Double Dozen as Tom and Tony set out to rank the 24 best MLB players going into next season! Trust us, narrowing countless great players to only two dozen is a lot harder than it sounds; so grab some popcorn and enjoy the attempts of these two to put a composite list together! Before closing out this week's show, Tom and Tony stop and pay tribute to the man who has had one of the largest impacts on both of their personal and professional lives: Bruce Avery. Had it not been for Bruce, you wouldn't be listening to this show, hundreds of college students would not have a station to call home, and the communications field would be without some of its most recognizable faces and voices. We, and many others, owe a great deal to Bruce Avery, may he rest in peace. Join us as we dedicate this episode of The Diamond Duo Podcast to our mentor and friend and the great legacy he leaves behind.

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony are ready to kick off the new year with a bang and are relieved to not have to record more than one time throughout the editing process! That's in part to the Hot Stove cooling off, but not entirely. The duo go through the biggest deals of the past two weeks (as of 12/30/22), including Daulton Varsho's trade to the Blue Jays, Alex Anthopoulos continuing to be a hypnotist by having his young core sign cheap deals (ie. Sean Murphy), and more! Aside from that, Carlos Correa's injury history being flagged by the Mets, Trevor Bauer being reinstated, and a bunch of umpires calling it quits rounds out the news that's covered. Then, Tom and Tony have something big in store that they hope teams will stick to in 2023, New Year's Resolutions! Most are wacky, but they are all reasonable to follow if teams so choose to. With that all being said, we hope your enjoying the New Year and we also hope you enjoy Episode 52 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony think they're free from the horror of having to re-record segments in the middle of the week, but alas, they underestimate the power of Steve Cohen's wallet and his desire to build a super team. The two begin innocently enough by listing off what they think are the biggest transactions of the past two weeks; this includes names like Xander Bogaerts signing with the Padres, Dansby Swanson taking his talent to the Cubs, Sean Murphy being shipped to the Braves in a three way deal, and Carlos Correa inking a 13 year deal with the Giants. Oh wait, I'm sorry did we say Giants? I meant the Mets, specifically in the middle of the night just far enough ahead of Sunday for Tom and Tony to have to scrap an entire conversation about Correa going to San Fran - thanks for that, Steve :). Outside of the free agency market, the duo construct their mock Hall Of Fame Ballots for the upcoming election and construct their Teams Of The Year via a draft. It's been a crazy fun 2022 that we've shared with you; thank you so much for choosing to spend part of your year with us, no matter how big or small that part was. We'll see you in the New Year, but until then, enjoy Episode 51 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony are thankful for reaching 50 episodes of the show! Thank you to everyone who's supported us so much in the journey and we look forward to having you onboard for a long time! In Episode 50, Tom and Tony realized recording during the Winter Meetings was a terrible, terrible mistake! Deals continue to pour in and the duo can barely keep up! In the end, we recap almost every deal that's been reached. This includes Jacob deGrom, Justin Verlander, Trea Turner, Aaron (Arson) Judge, and all the rest in between! Because of all the chaos, Tom and Tony have just enough time to recap the MLB Awards, the Hall of Fame ballot's release, Fred McGriff's enshrinement, and the passing of Gaylord Perry. We hope you enjoy our 50th Episode of The Diamond Duo Podcast and you stay tuned for more!
PROGRAMMING NOTE: Next week, we will release another episode because of extra content we wanted to get to, but couldn't in this episode due to all of the news that broke. We've got our mock Hall of Fame ballots, Teams of the Year draft, and more from the Winter Meetings coming up! Until then, enjoy Episode 50!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony usher in the offseason with a little free agency special as they look forward to the many transactions they'll see over the next couple of months! Before any soon-to-be proven wrong prediction are made, as always, there's some stories to go over! First off, to cover the barrage of awards season, the duo rapid fire their thoughts on the big four major awards (MVP, Cy Young, Rookie Of The Year, Manager Of The Year), the contemporary Hall Of Fame ballot, the Silver Slugger winners, and the Platinum winners all back to back. The two then touch upon the split between the Astros and their former GM, James Click, and some of the rumored causes of this parting of ways. And of course, the final step before a look at free agency is to cover the deals that have already gone down! The deals include Clayton Kershaw staying in L.A., Raphael Montero returning to Houston, and Atlanta taking a chance on several low risk high reward bullpen pieces! At last, it's time foe the duo to make some free agency predictions that totally won't be dated in a month's time. One by one, Tom and Tony share their on the spot thoughts on where 13 of the most coveted free agents will land! Once that's been wrapped up, all that's left to do is look forward to our momentous 50th episode on the horizon! That being said, please advise that we will be returning to bi-weekly uploads for the remainder of the offseason. There will not be an episode next week to ensure that enough material has been built up to give us the fuel for a full length episode. Thank you all for sticking with us all throughout the 2022 season, and we truly hope you'll stay with us as we not-so-patiently wait for baseball to return! Until that wonderful March day is upon us again, let's embrace the free agency chaos with open arms here on Episode 49 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony grit their teeth and let out a disgruntled sigh as they are forced to congratulate the Houston Astros for winning the 2022 World Series. The two pick up right where they left off last week and cover the final four games of the Fall Classic right out of the gate! All stories and key moments from Philly's Game 3 offensive showcase, Houston's combined no-hitter in Game 4, the close-as-can-be Game 5, and the decisive Game 6 are explored and discussed in this opening segment. Though Houston's victory does hurt, it hurts especially more for the duo as this opens the door for them to follow up on a bet they set so long ago. Yes, the two finally have a punishment for losing fantasy baseball; we won't dare spoil it here so you'll just have to listen and see! Following the Game 6 discussion, Tom and Tony rattle off some interesting stats and storylines to put the bookend on this World Series and this season of baseball! Though the season may officially be over, baseball news and moves will never stop! This is apparent in the major headlines the two go over immediately after the Postseason talk. They touch upon the first two moves of the offseason, the Gold Glove and Roberto Clemente Award winners, and the conclusion of the White Sox tiresome search to find a new manager! With the offseason upon us and free agency about to kick into high gear, be sure to stay up to date on all the latest episodes of The Diamond Duo Podcast for all the latest transactions and big storylines! We'll have it all right here coming at you starting next week with a preliminary offseason outlook. Until then however, let's toast the end of another great baseball season together here on Episode 48 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony ready themselves for what is very likely the final episode they record with baseball still going on this season! To celebrate the occasion, the two pull out all the stops and prepare to cover every last morsel of a story from games 1 and 2 of the Fall Classic, But first, there's always a few smaller stories to tend to. First off was the fact that the Royals, Marlins, and yes, even the White Sox found new managers to helm their squads in 2023. Some more news came from the Brewers front office as David Stearns stepped down from his role as President of Baseball Operations; the duo discuss his successful tenure in Milwaukee and the likelihood Stearns ends up with a team like the Mets. The focus is then shifted towards the players as the two go over Nolan Arenado electing to opt into the rest of his Cardinals contract, Brock Holt deciding to hang up his cleats after 10 seasons in the Bigs, and the announcement of the Silver Slugger nominees. Tom and Tony spend a little more time going over these candidates, some likely winners, and some picks that just make you go WTF. Then, at last, it's time to talk about the postseason yet again. Before the two start up about the World Series, they bid farewell to their fallen Yankees all while mocking their skipper for his inabilities both as a manager and a motivator. Once the duo gets started on the World Series, there's no stopping from there. From Philly's Game 1 comeback, to Houston's Game 2 bounce back, and a "frisky" starter to a perfect game (technically)! We've got it all right here on the World Series episode of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony grit their teeth and clench their fists as they prepare themselves to discuss one of the most lopsided Championship Series in baseball history, that their team, of course, was on the wrong side of! But first, the two address the shuffling of managers amongst the teams no longer in contention. These moves include the Rangers coaxing Bruce Bochy out of retirement, the Blue Jays removing the interim tag off of John Schneider with a three year contract extension, and the White Sox still not knowing what a manager even is as they interview both hot prospect Joe Espada and former manager turned TV analyst, Ozzie Guillen. The duo then deep dives the Gold Glove finalists and how hilarious they turned out. Everything including the snubs (cough cough Judge) and head scratchers (cough cough Soto) is analyzed in this awards discussion. Speaking of awards, next up is the Hank Aaron finalists talk and how the AL is all but set yet the NL could see some sneaky contention for the distinction. At last, it's time to talk postseason again! Tom and Tony begin with the NLCS (up until Game 3) and all the crucial players within it. Game 1's pitching masterclass, Game 2's defensive blunders and heroic comeback, and Game 3's clutch Jean are all put on display in this segment! However, this enthusiasm is short-lived as the two now have to talk about the ALCS and all the ways it broke the spirits of every Yankees fan watching. Be prepared for the tirade of the century as the duo take most the this one's back half ripping into this team's players, coaches, and upper management for their rampant excuse-making and continued struggles in October. This one stokes the ire of Tom and Tony so kick back and watch the fireworks here on Episode 46 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony take a good, long look at the four division series as heavyweights are knocked out, underdogs rise, and their own team gives them chest pains! Before they can go straight into that, they must touch upon a pair of non-playoff related stories that transpired amidst the madness. Firstly, the two offer their goodbyes and more sincere of condolences for the loss of legendary closer: Bruce Sutter. Whether remembered as the pioneer of the splitter, one of the trailblazers of the closer position, or simply the kind soul those around him knew best, he will no doubt be missed and leave a mark on the game of baseball as a whole; may he rest in piece. Next, the duo go over the oh so shocking decision of Carlos Correa to opt out of his deal with the Twins (gasp). After recovering from this seismic shock, they debate where the all star shortstop could end up next year and why. Once that's said and done, it's time to talk Postseason! Once again, each game, significant play, series clincher, and baffling managerial decision is covered in great detail. From Houston's sweep and Philly's shocking upset to the laughable moves made by the Yankees and Dodgers skippers on a near nightly basis! Please note for this segment, the Yankees/Guardians series was still in the middle of being played; we will go over the result and how much we dislike Josh Naylor next week. The two close up shop with a brief look at the NCLS and call this one over! To wrap up here, we want to take this chance to earnestly thank each and every one of you for helping us get to 1,000 listens! You all are what make this passion project even more fun to make than it already is, we hope you know that. Thanks so much for being on this crazy ride with us, and here's to thousands more! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony welcome MLB's first ever full Wild Card weekend with open arms as they break down all four series! Before they tackle the postseason, however, the two tie up some loose ends left over from the regular season. One of which being the first formal discussion of Aaron Judge breaking Roger Maris' AL home run record with his 62nd home run! Its significance is simply indescribable especially as the bookend to an unforgettable season, but the duo does their best to describe its impact anyway. Moving on, Tom and Tony discuss the recent firings of Royals manager, Mike Matheney, and pitching coach, Cal Eldred, and how this will affect Kansas City and their never-ending rebuild in the long run. After that, it's finally time to talk playoffs! Every outcome, critical play, and storyline is brought up and analyzed in this all-encompassing segment! From the collapse of the Mets and Blue Jays to the quiet death of the Rays to the final farewell to Tom's ultimate prophecy, this section's got it all! They immediately follow it up with a brief look into the next round in the divisional series! Wrap it all up with a deep drive all about New York's favorite closer (not the one with the trumpets) and you've got yourself quite the introduction to playoff baseball! So sit back, relax, don't forget to breathe if your team's playing, and enjoy the game here on Episode 44 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony play a little game of catch up to recap the big stories we missed out on last week (sorry about that by the way). They begin with the big fish of Albert Pujols clobbering his 700th career home run followed by a look in on Aaron Judge's race for 62 (which if you couldn't tell happened after our recording). The two then rapid fire a series of stories ranging from the Royals firing long time president Dayton Moore and the Tigers hiring a new president in Scott Harris, to the Luis Castillo extension and Don Mattingly's imminent departure from the Marlins. Speaking of which, the duo touches upon Tony LaRussa's (second) retirement from baseball and how this could spark the White Sox going forward. As one older gent leaves the game, two more walk right back in with Charlie Morton agreeing to a 1-year deal with the Braves and Miguel Cabrera confirming he'll be back for 2023. Not to mention, a little known player by the name of Shohei Ohtani will avoid arbitration with a record-setting $30 million deal. After one final glance at the postseason picture, Tom and Tony dive headfirst into predictions for this years playoffs. The two construct their own brackets and explain why they'll totally be better than last year's! (for context, Tom picked the Brewers to win it all last year and Tony picked the Giants - yikes). With the Regular Season coming to a close, there's not much left to do other than kick back and usher in the playoffs here with us on Episode 43 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony hunker down for the avalanche of milestones and home run chases currently coming down to the wire all across baseball! But first, the two offer their most sincere condolences for the recent passing of John Stearns and Joan Hodges; what they meant to the Mets, the game of baseball, and most importantly their loved ones cannot possibly be measured in the written or spoken word. May they rest in peace. Sticking to the Mets, the duo discuss the coming departure of Sandy Alderson from his present role with the Mets and eventual move to an advisor role. One more stop before the milestone coverage as Tom and Tony touch upon Ozzie Albies' injury that will sideline him for at least the rest of the regular season and David Price's decision to hang 'em up after the conclusion of this season. After this, it's a milestone extravaganza that begins with the Mets single season hit by pitch record, Framber Valdez's insane 25 straight quality starts record, and Spencer Strider's seemingly impossible 200 strikeouts in 129 innings! This leads was for the home run records that encompass the back half of the episode. First it's Japanese slugger, Munetaka Murakami's, record-tying 55th home run by a Japanese-born player in the NPB. Next up is two Diamond Duo regulars in Aaron Judge and Albert Pujols as the two check in on their historic home run chases! (friendly reminder that Aaron Judge is the MVP he's gonna be the first player to hit 60+ homers with a triple crown). Lastly, it's Mike Trout providing us with the latest Tungsten Arm O'Doyle moment as he homers in seven straight games! (and of course the Angels were sub 500 across that stretch). After a quick postseason update, it's a double-headed deep drive to close things out! We had plenty to talk about so sit back and take it all in here on Episode 42 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony take a moment to step back and thank all you wonderful people who have been with us through one year of the show! Whether you've been with us for just one episode or all 41, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts and we can't wait for many more years to come. Following these sentimentalities, the two dive into some seismic rule changes coming to the game in 2023. The significance of a pitch clock, the banning of the shift, and larger bases are debated and discerned as to whether they will make the game better or worse. Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame ceremony in the Bronx is discussed and tied with a recent trip taken by the duo to go see the Yankees clobber the Rays in person! The two then switch gears to talk about the next great step forward for minor leaguers: the establishment of the MiLB union! The retirement of journeyman pitcher, Edwin Jackson, sparks the return of the trivia segment with a unique twist! Last but most certainly not least, the duo closes out the show with a look at every division race across baseball and debate how each of them could turn out. We had a lot to get through in this one so sit back and take it all in here on Episode 41 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony recap the MLB roster expansion and note all the significant prospects given a September call up! These young prospects include Gunnar Henderson and his electric start in Baltimore, Corbin Carroll and his contributions to a surging Diamondbacks club (weird, right?), and even the impossible - the Yankees calling up top three prospect in the system, Oswald Peraza, to try and turn the team's fortunes around. Speaking of the Yankees, the two rebound from the prospect discussion to deep dive a handful of teams in the midst of late season collapses - and if you couldn't guess, the Bronx Bombers may or may not headline this segment. After a couple of smaller topics including the Red Sox bringing back Chaim Bloom and Alex Cora for next year and a masterful troll job by the Dodger faithful, Tom and Tony go head to head in putting together the best team based on August performances. The rules are slightly tweaked as well so take a listen to see how things have changed! The duo close up shop with one of their saddest closers yet, honoring two fallen brothers (in a friend-zoney type of way, not literally). We've hit the big 4 - oh and over 900 listens total on the show! Thank you all so so much from the both of us. We hope you're having just as much fun listening to the show as we have making it. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony gawk in awe at the latest mega deal to fall in the lap of one of baseball's brightest young stars. Today's recipient of the "set for life" contract is Mariners superstar Julio Rodriguez and it's a deal with the potential to outlast even the likes of Bobby Bonilla. There's a ton of conditions to the contract, but Tom and Tony are prepared to break it all down in addition to what this means for the rest of baseball's young stars and the Mariners themselves. The two then shift gears from MLB's youngest to the elder statesmen of the Mets as the team held their first Old Timers Day for the first time since 1994. With Mets legends from Ed Kranepool and Ray Knight to Mike Piazza and Bartolo Colon, the duo discusses how this historic event could be seen as a high point for the franchise (particularly from the perspective of the team's owner). The announcement of Walker Buehler's second Tommy John surgery and a look ahead at potential September call-ups wrap up the main stories and make way for a double-headed deep drive! The first story of the segment details the next in a long line of strange injuries that's affected a once vital member of the Yankees bullpen. Lastly, the second story recounts the tale of everyone's ahem """favorite""" baseball personality in Zack Hample and his immature escapades during his trip to Coors Field. Please note, both Tom and Tony experienced a series of technical difficulties at various points in the show that forced the two to fill in the blanks and fix it while editing. We sincerely apologize for these technical mishaps, but we truly believe we still have a good episode for you this week and we know they won't happen again (God we hope anyway). This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony brush aside their analytical arguments in favor of the cries of an unhappy fanbase. That's right. They're tackling the Yankees recent struggles. They discuss everything from the lackluster offense to the plethora of injuries to the main reasons as to why the Bronx Bombers have collapsed so hard. There's witty banter and only a modest amount of aimless whining so this is a discussion you won't want to miss. Hey, speaking of aimless whining, Chris Woodward (and Jon Daniels) were recently fired by the Rangers. Tom and Tony discuss their legacy in Arlington as well as what the future could hold for the seemingly identity-less team. After paying homage to two veterans of the game in Albert Pujols (one of the best 2nd halves of his career) and Dellin Betances (announced his retirement), the two bid the happiest of anniversaries to the joke that hasn't gotten old or aged a day at all: Nick Castellanos's thunderous deep drive into left! The duo celebrates the occasion by presenting a double feature surrounding Southside's most maligned manager and a reporter who slid his way into some trouble. Don't miss the rants, the laughs, and the rest here on Episode 38 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony bid farewell to one of the most hated men in Detroit baseball as well as a temporary farewell to someone quickly becoming one of the most hated men in all of baseball! The Detroit Tigers are now free from the eternal torment known as Al Avila's tenure and the duo reflect upon his tarnished legacy of bad trades and poor roster construction in addition to what could be next for the Tigers. The larger story, however, comes in the form of the 80 game suspension of Fernando Tatis Jr. for PED usage. The two discuss the meteoric impact this will have on both the Padres and the sport as a whole as well as what this does to Fernando's own legacy. Next and last up comes a rapid fire of stories ranging from a recap of the Field of Dreams game to a pair of milestones for Tom's sweetheart Cardinals to a near perfecto spoiled by a known Twitter jinx. This one is closed out with one of the most feel good stories you'll hear this summer so be sure to listen all the way to the end here on Episode 37 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

Next, the duo dishes out their thoughts on the trades they didn't mention in last week's episode and rate them individually for each team involved. After the actual trades, Tom and Tony grade the overall performances by teams at the deadline (for better or for worse). This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony send off the first half of the season by recapping the festivities of All Star Week! The duo began with the Futures Game despite not being able to watch it (thank for that one Peacock). The two highlight the most noteworthy prospects on display including two Yankees youngsters and the future A's backstop who took home MVP. With baseball's future on the mind, the duo shifted gears to cover the recent MLB Draft. Some of the biggest names off the board in the first round such as Druw Jones, Kumar Rocker, and first overall pick, Jackson Holliday are discussed in detail throughout this segment. Their focus is then turned towards the two main events: the Home Run Derby and the All Star Game. No stone is left unturned nor story left untold as the duo go over Julio Rodriguez's incredible HRD debut, Albert Pujols' first round upset, some fun mic'd up moments from the All Star Game, and the heroics from Giancarlo Stanton and Byron Buxton to give the American League its 9th (!!) straight ASG victory! Capped off with a few secondary stories and a snake draft of the greatest players from the season's first half, and you get one of our most jam-packed episodes to date! Be sure to vote on which Team Of The First Half you think is better on Twitter and Instagram and tune in next week to hear the announcement of the winner! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony revisit the All Star Game as the final rosters were recently revealed. The two review who will be starting, who will be a reserve, and who was wrongfully left out - trust us there were plenty in the latter category. Apart from that, they revive the Around The Horn segment to ceremoniously laud the hottest teams in baseball: the Orioles and the Mariners (didn't think we'd be saying that in July). Conversely, this comes with the added pleasure of ridiculing some of baseball's worst, including the predictably terrible Angels, who simply find ways to remain a laughingstock. Speaking of laughingstocks, another team has acquired Robinson Cano and Tom and Tony spend some time trying to figure out why. This segment may or may not contain laughter aimed at the team in question. The duo close things out by catching up with recently returned Red Sox ace Chris Sale and his rather destructive escapades in his rehab assignment. They explain their thoughts as to why the All Star voting process has become subject to more ridicule again and also select who they would like to see start in this year's Summer Classic! In other news, Tom and Tony congratulate former top pick Mark Appel for making his big league debut, discuss how one of "Pugliese's Paisans" will help out a struggling team, and recap the now infamous Angels/Mariners brawl that the duo missed out on last week! In addition, Tom gets to go on another prophecy rant about his sweetheart Cardinals after a few of their players made history this past week! Sit back, relax, and enjoy Tom and Tony shake off the rust of not posting last week as they once again tour around the world of baseball on Episode 32 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony open things with bad news on the injury front as two MVP favorites in Mookie Betts and Manny Machado both got hurt this past week. Though things are look up for the two, the implications in the NL West division race could be massive in their absence. Unfortunately, things would not look up for Anthony Rendon and Hyun Jin Ryu, both of whom will see their seasons ended due to injuries. This will certainly set the Blue Jays on the hunt for another starter at the deadline, just as it will place Rendon's contract among the very worst in baseball. The two proceed to bid farewell to Lorenzo Cain, who was DFA'd by the Brewers on mutually good terms. As one former star walks out, two prospective game changers enter in the forms of Oneil Cruz of the Pirates and Riley Greene of the Tigers. After a round of trivia, the duo round this one out by revisiting their preseason award and playoff predictions to see how they hold up. Some takes aged rather well, others aged like Albert Pujols in L.A. It's a great big roast session of who had the worst takes coupled with a look at the present day frontrunners here on Episode 31 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony return to action and catch up on everything they missed from last week! They begin by reviewing the teams who saw themselves go on long streaks to begin June. These teams include the Braves, Phillies, and Yankees that saw excess winning and the Angels, Brewers, and A's that have seen better days. Once that's done, the two discuss the managerial situations in Philly and L.A. with the recent firings of Joe Maddon and Joe Girardi and if, perhaps, they'll be the only older managers relieved of their duties (cough cough Chicago cough cough). The duo laud Justin Verlander for becoming the active strikeout king, mourn the lost seasons of three players to Tommy John Surgery, and question the state of the Marlins clubhouse, specifically surrounding Jazz Chisholm. They close it out with a little Deep Drive about a poorly timed tweet by the Chicago Cubs to put a cap on the 30th episode of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony get flashbacks to this year's Oscars as an altercation between Tommy Pham and Joc Pederson turned (slightly) violent before a Reds-Giants game. The two analyze the situation and have a laugh once it's discovered what this is all about (spoiler alert: it isn't much). The focus is then shifted to the White Sox making a smart organizational decision (for once) and DFA'ing struggling starter, Dallas Keuchel. In the days since this was recorded, Keuchel has officially become a free agent and looks to take his 7+ ERA outside of South Side. This prompts the two hosts to ponder (and slightly mock) some potential landing spots for the lefty. The bulk of this episode, however, is spent seeing Tom and Tony construct their May Teams Of The Month. Listen as the two strategically sculpt squads using a snake draft system based on the greatest players from the previous month. Keep an eye out for those graphics and polls on social media as always! BROADCASTING NOTE: The reason Teams Of The Month is being done now is because there will be no episode dropping next week. Tom and Tony need a break from the daily grind and have decided to take a vacation. As a result, the release of Episode 30 will be the week of June 13th. So until then, enjoy the crossing of the two month mark here on Episode 29 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony sift through the massive slew of injuries that has been swept across the MLB landscape as of late. The injury bug has taken down noteworthy players like Max Scherzer, Chris Paddack, Chad Green, Clayton Kershaw, and Tyler O'Neill. In lieu of a traditional Around The Horn segment, the two proceed with some of the week's biggest stories which include the out of nowhere Juan Soto trade rumors (and why they're dumb) and the sudden surge of Trevor Story and the Red Sox. The biggest story, however, is reserved for the conflict between the Yankees and White Sox over an exchange between Josh Donaldson and Tim Anderson. Tensions flared both on the field and off of it as Tom and Tony try to make light of the situation in the wake of Donaldson's recent suspension and subsequent appeal. The two follow this up with their first Buy Or Sell segment of the season! A platter of piping hot takes is dished out about the thriving Angels, the mediocre White Sox, the pitching metrics of Yadier Molina (no, we're not kidding), and much more! And lastly, what better way is there to close out such a hectic week than with a good old Deep Drive To Left? This episode's edition covers two players who lost all of their credibility to their friends, families, and the community of baseball alike. This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony offer their congratulations to two exciting players on the Angels on some impressive milestones! First is former first rounder, Reid Detmers who became the youngest player in franchise history to toss a no-hitter, doing so in his 11h career start! Second is Shohei Ohtani (ever heard of him?) who clobbered his 100th career home run, becoming only the third Japanese-born player (Hideki Matsui & Ichiro Suzuki) to to reach that many! Along with Anthony Rendon hitting a homer left-handed and Mike Trout being Mike Trout, it's a good week to be an Angels fan! These feats got the team featured as one of the hottest in baseball in Around The Horn alongside the Astros, Phillies, and Padres! After recognizing some of the weakest teams of last week (the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Marlins), the two spend a bit more time picking apart (surprise surprise) the Reds for truly breaking new ground when it comes to ways to lose a baseball game. The duo cover the recent signing of Robinson Cano, the resurgence of Christian Yelich, and a smörgåsbord of other events that may have happened in the middle of the recording! Capped off with the introduction of a brand new segment, this episode's got it all! Listen in on the fun in Episode 27 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony plunge into the unforgiving wasteland that is MLB umpiring. They take an especially close look at one recent incident where an umpire looked for a reason to eject Madison Bumgarner by gazing longingly into his eyes. The duo follows this bout of strangeness up by (gasp) praising the New York Mets! This praise comes from their release of struggling veteran Robinson Cano and their 6-run comeback in the 9th inning to utterly embarrass the Phillies! Before they dive into any stories, however, the two go Around The Horn to cover the hottest teams (White Sox, Astros, Brewers) and players (Manny Machado, Kevin Gausman, Christian Yelich) in addition to the coldest teams (Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies) and players (Marcell Ozuna, Trevor Story, Dallas Keuchel). A flurry of recent milestones achieved by Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina, Miguel Cabrera, and Dusty Baker is also lauded by the pair. The episode is closed out by the recognition of Buster Posey Day in San Francisco, the acknowledgement of three prospects recently called up to the show (possibly even teasing a brand new segment), and the triumphant return of our Deep Drive To Left segment to commemorate the whiniest manager in all of MLB! All this and more coming at ya on Episode 26 of The Diamond Duo Podcast!

This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony juggle the dichotomy of celebrating Clayton Kershaw becoming the Dodgers all-time leader in strikeouts and acknowledging disgraced starter Trevor Bauer after being suspended for two full seasons! Before they dive into those stories, they conduct an abridged version of Around The Horn! Teams ending the month on hot streaks like the Yankees, Marlins, Angels, and Twins are lauded, while teams that stumbled toward the finish line like the Red Sox, White Sox, Tigers, and (surprise surprise) Reds are mocked mercilessly. The return of Ronald Acuña Jr, the Mets/Cardinals brawl, the Mets subsequent no-hitter of the Phillies, and the Yankees' not-even-remotely-incriminating letter are covered before revisiting a classic segment to close out April. Teams of the Month is back! Listen as Tom and Tony attempt to screw each other over in a snake draft to build the best team based on the greatest players of April! Before that, the duo host another edition of Around the Horn, where they reflect on the success of the two NY teams and the Mariners and proceed to bash the Reds, Nationals, and A's for a variety of reasons! Also, Tom and Tony wager on who would win the fight Tommy Pham challenged Luke Voit to, react to Kyle Freeland's extension with the Rockies, lament on John Means and Michael Concerto's absences from 2022, and wish Jake Arrieta and Tony Watson the best of luck after they both hung up their cleats! Finally, Tony settles a bet he placed with Tom last week after failing to overcome Tom's superior fantasy baseball team by reciting some poetry about his favorite umpire! This version is designed to zero in on the best and worst players and teams around the league! (and save time as well lol). Once the week in review is done, the two cover the biggest (and strangest stories) from the past week. These include the unfortunate ending to Clayton Kershaw's perfect game bid, the infuriating comments made by Reds team president, and the bunt that caused outrage in San Francisco. Interspersed with the return of our trivia segment, Tom and Tony wrap things up by covering the festivities of Jackie Robinson Day and all the deep and shallow drives that came with it! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony tackle predicting what will happen during the 2022 regular season and postseason! Who will they pick to win each division? How many wins will each team wind up with? How stupid could the Diamond Duo possibly be? All of those questions are answered in this episode! Plus, it wouldn't be a good prediction episode without discussing who Tom and Tony's favorites to win the World Series are! Besides the standings, the duo also state who they believe will take home some hardware at the seasons end (with some dark horse selections as well)! Before they can get to predicting, Tom and Tony first need to go over the major headlines of the week (which includes the two big trades and some of baseball's top prospects making it to The Show)! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony take one final look at the MLB offseason and the many moves that have come with it! They go over every major transaction with special focus given to some of the larger deals such as the signings of Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa. Once each move is analyzed, the two proceed to grade the offseason of some of the most noteworthy teams who actively participated (I'm looking at you, Cleveland). These teams include some of the slam dunk winners like the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Braves, in addition to some of the biggest disappointments like the Yankees, Reds, and A's. Before all this, however, the two cover some of the biggest headlines going around the league! From the retiring of Andrew Miller to the reunion of Albert Pujols in St. Louis, no stone is left unturned. What we really don't want you to miss (as if we'd want you to miss any of this) is the beginning of this episode in which Tom and Tony celebrate 500 listens in less than 20 episodes. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all for tuning in and listening to us rant about baseball; it means more than you know! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony pop the champagne and celebrate because we have a new CBA and we have baseball back! The two open the show deep diving said CBA and the many changes it brings to the game; such changes include a 12 game playoff format, a raise in the minimum salary, and a 6 pick draft lottery. Once that's done, they proceed to tackle the ever-growing flood of transactions that have been processed in the wake of baseball's return! Every move is noted, but larger deals are picked apart in greater detail. The Reds and A's are highlighted for their unwillingness to remain competitive and field a good team, the Yankees are both lauded for their trade of Gary Sanchez (🙏) but also questioned for their inability to spend and sacrifice more for the greater good, and the Braves are singled out for a trade that ended an era, yet started a new one. With a quick look at the remaining free agents, the two look eagerly to a future where the MLB season is once again at our doorstep! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony face the cold reality of cancelled MLB games due to a lockout for the first time since 1994. The two cover the lockout up to this point, shining a light on the proposals put forth by both the players and the owners and going over what both sides look to achieve. The 24 hour timeline between February 28 and March 1 is looked at in great detail from the brief extension of the deadline to the press conferences from both the League and MLBPA. Listen as Tom and Tony rip into the lack of transparency and good will displayed on the part of the owners and the most hated man in baseball history (I said it), Rob Manfred. Before heading down this road of eternal sadness, however, the two cover what little stories there were in the middle of all of this. Such stories include two players officially hanging up their cleats, Juan Soto's declined extension before the lockout, and Derek Jeter's sudden departure from the Miami Marlins. Tom and Tony conclude the Mets segment by constructing a tier list with Eddie that's sure to bring laughs and pain (but mostly pain) to Mets fans everywhere! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony ooh and ahh over the results of the BBWAA's voting for the 2022 Class of the Baseball Hall of Fame! While they are ecstatic for David Ortiz and each of the committee's selections, they explain why Bonds, Clemens, and Schilling missed out for the tenth and final time on the ballot and the hopes that they have for consideration in the future. The duo also took a look ahead at some of next year's newest members joining the ballot and ponder who will make the Hall of Fame next. Speaking of the Hall of Fame and notable names not enshrined in Cooperstown, Tom and Tony thought it would be a great idea to construct their own unique teams of the best players not in the Hall of Fame in their second ever draft!
