We are super excited to welcome our guest Paula Carnell on the podcast today! Paula has a very deep connection to bees and is sharing how bees and humans relate.
Humans and bees share similarities, including what makes them each healthy. Through exploring both humans’ and bees’ needs (not knees!), we can find sustainable ways to help both species truly thrive.
Another way bees compare to humans is the structure of their beehive. With a strong democracy and an equal sharing of the workload, beehives are a great example of how to run an effective business.
Connecting with nature is an important part of keeping one’s self heath and happy, as well as helping one connect with others. It’s un-bee-lievable the impact that bees have on us and the earth around us!
Get to Know Paula:
Paula Carnell is a bee and honey expert who has challenged the conventional beekeeping world with her natural and sustainable approach to beekeeping and honey production. As the lead beekeeper at The Newt in Somerset responsible for establishing their native honey and other bee species along with bee Safaris, honey tastings and the 'Beezantium' she has gained a reputation for shaking up the system and inspiring other businesses to consider the wider aspects of 'saving the bees'. Her TEDx talk shared her understanding of how bees taught her that we are all connected, and by killing the bees we are ultimately killing ourselves. Author of two books, and two more on the way, numerous podcast interviews and speaking globally, Paula is becoming the go to name in understanding how we can really save the bees, and which bees need saving!

Do you ever find that you're over-labeling yourself? I, for one, tend to label myself as indecisive. However, using these labels leaves us stuck in our ways and could be a potential roadblock for our growth.
It’s time to stop over labeling ourselves.
In the process of over labeling, we begin to identify ourselves as a behavior rather than a person. This identifying behavior then protects us against failure.
We all have an inner protector. It keeps us busy and prevents us from ever failing.
Today, we are focusing on how to strip back our inner protector to stop being the martyr!

Let’s start today’s discussion with a story about Lisa. Lisa is an amazing entrepreneur who has an amazing team behind her, however she still feels overwhelmed with her workload. Despite a team supporting her, Lisa continues to carry the stress of the company on her shoulders.
While Lisa is a fantastic business owner, she needs help taking time for herself. Many of us are like Lisa and don’t understand the value of our time. We overwork ourselves to prove our strength and great capabilities. What we need to start asking ourselves is: are we spending our time right?
You can always make more money, but the time that we spend is limited. Start honoring your time, because your time is valuable!

The way we are wired affects how we show up in our businesses and it affects the growth of our businesses and teams.
So we work on leadership. We work on ourselves. We support our teams. We bring in profit. And we lead lives with full freedom; extraordinary lives.
I grew up surrounded by highly emotional people. I have had to learn for myself how to stay centered in a variety of stressful situations.
It’s our responsibility to look at what is going on, not get drawn in. Think of wisdom and strength as you breath through the hard moments.
When something triggers you, scares you or irritates you, ask yourself, “What is this really about?” and be honest about the answer.

What does wealth expansion look like in your life? More Joy, love, time, space?
Get used to the idea of infinite receiving!
In today’s conversation we’ll teach you how to go as deep as you desire with your purpose so you can live on purpose. It’s the job of some people among us to teach that we have permission to have ‘the frequency of more’ and Suzy is one of those people. That is her purpose, without judgment.
Have you just been tolerating the fact that you are living a life that is unfulfilling and unsatisfying?
Make peace with the fact that there are no wasted steps. Your life is like a dot-to-dot picture. When you’re in the day you can’t see what it is you’re creating, but after some time you can start to see certain parts of the picture and it begins to look amazing.

Psst! Want to hear an inside chat with a financial planner and coach? Then be sure to hit play on today’s episode. Skye is chatting with Catherine Mortan, author of “It’s not About the Money” all about making money and holding onto money! So how can you work on decreasing anxiety and increasing financial resilience?
Women have multiple generations’ worth of borrowed beliefs that hold us back financially. Some of these beliefs serve us and some sabotage us. We feel compelled to hoard and protect our money.
The take-aways:
Our ability to receive money is mirrored by our ability to be loved.
The way we treat money is a reflection of the way we treat ourselves.
It’s not a great habit to use money as a tool to feel better about yourself.
To test the healthiness of your relationship with money ask yourself these questions:
How do you receive compliments? Are you 100% open to receive them?
What is your relationship to your own life?
We also dive into Epigenetics, tapping, emotional understanding of your fear, guilt, shame and anxiety which unlocks your ability to grow in every way, not just financially.

One of the best ways to improve your business is to truly know yourself, but how does one accomplish this? Sometimes we are shamed into believing that there is one right way to be or that you need tangible evidence to really see growth in your business, but that is not true.
Today we explore the important question: how do you see your uniqueness?
It’s important to own your work and to own it for what it is. Only through that confidence, can we truly own our uniqueness and see growth in our business from it.
Points to remember:
I am enough.
I am an excellent _____ . (fill in the blank!)
I own my gifts.

I’m not a psychologist, by any means, but I have learned something very helpful regarding decision-making that I want to talk about today.
I work with two totally different kinds of people: logical thinkers and emotional thinkers.
When we’re making important decisions in our lives and in our businesses, which operating style should we favor? Should we trust data or intuition?
Listen in to hear the full scope of my advice but I’ll cut to the chase here as well: Get the data!
Get the facts you need. What is the situation? Yes, of course, listen to your gut if you are feeling like something isn’t completely right or if you feel like something needs to improve, but don’t make any decisions until you have the facts.
How do I know…?
…How to tell my thoughts from my feelings?
…When my negative feeling is my critical block trying to keep me safe?
…When my negative feeling is my intuition?
…How to make a decision when I’m caught up in a negative emotion?
Thanks for listening today! I want to hear how you make important decisions, too!

Yesterday was my birthday and even though it was a lovely day, it was quite ordinary. I was completely fine with my birthday being just like any other average day, but I kept feeling this nagging shame about it. I kept having the thought that it should be more special, more fun. As I followed this line of thought I realized something very interesting. I wasn’t sad about my uneventful birthday, I was sad about what other people would think about my uneventful birthday. Isn’t that fascinating?
So, as you go about your normal days, and your special days, even your birthdays, remember to focus on how you feel about it and what other people will think about it.

If you have a critical block then you know what it feels like to have a little devil on your shoulder telling you that you “can’t.”
Can’t do it.
Can’t build a team.
Can’t run a sustainable business.
This critical block makes you want to run and hide. Once I decided that I wanted to run a business teaching leadership, it took me three years to actually leave my corporate job and start the thing. Three years!

What do you dream about?
What passions have you always wanted time for?
What do you wish you’d done when you had the chance?
Some women don’t really have answers to these questions because they’ve lived the same life for so long.
Today we welcome Abigail Langridge to demystify our favorite pursuit: Freedom!
It’s not that we want a hands-off business because we do want to be active in our business, but we also want to spend time with our family and we want flexibility and freedom. Let’s talk about freeing up some of your time by hiring just a little bit of help. Start with hiring a PA just for a quarter, just for a half day. See what happens. Do what you do best and get help with the rest.

We set goals and strive for them, sure, but did you know that we also set subconscious limits on ourselves as well? We actually prevent ourselves from exceeding beyond a certain realm of happiness just so that we can feel safe.
Today I’m going to cover these main truths about self sabotage:
Self sabotage is keeping you safe, but it’s also keeping you from finding the people who need your help.
You don’t need to choose between time with your family and the success of your business.
Let’s ask: “Where is self sabotage getting in the way of your business scaling goals?” Sometimes it’s hard to have clarity around our beliefs because we are too comfortable in our patterns.

Vulnerability is a hot topic right now, especially on social media where people are clamoring to voice their every frustration disguised as “vulnerability.” Well today I’m going on the record to say that true vulnerability first takes place when you have a respectful and private conversation about problems and solutions. Here are some of the complicated conversations that require vulnerability; do you struggle with any of these:
Giving feedback to an employee
Expressing the need for change
Frustration with a personal or family relationship
Conflict with a co-worker
Giving feedback is hard. Being honest is hard, but this world needs more people who are willing to be fair and true in their interactions. This is the real way to practice vulnerability

When you are running a personal brand, your clients’ results are everything because they are a direct reflection of you. You feel compelled to over-deliver to ensure their success.
Lines and boundaries get blurred because you’re often going beyond your responsibilities. Plus, you’re offering is too broad because you’re being everything your client needs you to be, fitting into their mold.
Aside from the scenarios where you’re overworking in your business, I also see the reverse. Sometimes I see clients whose businesses are at the mercy of the all-consuming demands of their role at home. Keep going at this rate there will be nothing left to give.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, you may have a responsibility block. A responsibility block is a wonderful problem to have, because you find it natural to help others and take care of others, but today I’m going to teach you about the two ways you can overcome it. Then you and your clients will have healthy expectations and you’ll never look back.

Are you relying on a long, running list in your head to get through your days? Is it true that you, and only you, know what needs to get done and how to do it?
It sounds like you’re winging it. Now of course, we all do this in our businesses from time to time, but let me tell you how much lighter you’d feel if you got it all down on paper!
At first glance, winging it seems easier than systematizing our business, but I promise you it’s draining your mental energy every day. You’re perhaps a bit afraid something will slip through the cracks. You might feel a little bit of negativity about it in your head. You may be a bit haphazard in your communication, and you change things on the fly a lot. Am I right?
Here’s my advice:
Practically speaking: write down the way you do things so you can see the flow on paper.
And perhaps more importantly map out how your conversion works: how does someone go from not knowing you, to being a raving fan client who refers all their friends to you?
If you want to streamline your operations and this seems too daunting I want to offer you my own templates and procedures. I have them all ready for you here at Streamline for Success. It’s just 27 Euros and you’ll have everything you need to stop winging it in your business!

Having a high-energy presence on a stage is not about extroversion; it’s about confidence. Confidence is the quiet knowledge and acceptance of yourself.
The freedom that comes with confidence is the freedom to ask for the things that you require, the freedom to use your voice to help others. As entrepreneurs let’s spread this freedom to all communities. Success in the past and freedom in the past have been for the few and not the many.

I know you’re quite familiar with the message that you should outsource more in your business so you can focus on growing your business, and to varying degrees you are comfortable with that concept.
I also know that you are steeped in the tradition that if you outsource tasks at home you are somehow less noble as a wife and/or mother.
We’re programmed to believe we must be the ones folding our own laundry and buying our own groceries in order to stay grounded and it’s simply not true. Listen carefully because I say this with love. I don’t do those things in my home. It’s not that I don’t like to do those things. It’s not that I feel like I’m above doing those things. What it does mean is that I want to be a less stressed person and that I’ve learned to ask for help. And now, I’m surrounded by amazing support.
Why not?
Why not get the support that you need at home so that you can give the very best of yourself to the creative side of your business and the quality time with your family.
Why not?
Are you catching the vision? Can you start to see yourself as the head of a team?
You can outsource basically anything. Forget the stigma!

Let’s talk today about the way you outsource and get help in your business. I promise learning the difference between delegating and abdicating will change everything!
Before I learned this distinction I was trying to scale my business, I had a VA, but I wasn’t leveraging the best way I could.
What do I do differently now?

Do you ever stop to think about what it really means to invest in yourself? I’m talking about physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually - you have these four batteries and they power everything you do.
I really want us to internalize the concept that taking care of ourselves is NOT selfish. Your family and your business benefit when you are whole and supported.
Here’s what we’ll cover today:
I really want to give you permission to put yourself first - more than that, I hope you come to see self care as an investment instead of an indulgence; progress toward the mindset that it would be irresponsible NOT to practice self care.
Email me at skye@skyebarbour.com. I want to hear what your take-aways have been!
You could be an online business owner, a cake maker or a farmer - today I’m sharing principles that are true for any business model. If what you want is to grow a long-term business, one where you are a business owner and not a freelancer, I’ll teach you how in this episode.
I can lead you through the processes of building a team and systematizing the delivery of your products and services so that you can have the freedom to work in the business (as a rockstar do-er) AND on the business (masterminding growth).
There are 4 quick steps to making the mindset change. Tune in to hear specific business examples where we’ve shifted from technician to business owner and the check-in questions you need to ask yourself along the way!

I have to tell you about a really difficult season I’ve just been through where I felt very overwhelmed with my life. We experienced illness, financial set backs and the loss of a loved one all at once and I just had to take a step back because I was mentally and emotionally tapped out.
If you are facing this in your life here is what I would lovingly encourage you to do.
You’re not alone.
Step out of the emotion and get the facts.
Reconnect with your purpose.
Give yourself space if you need it.
Take one small action so it won’t feel so daunting to come back to it tomorrow.
Talk to other people and share how you feel so you don’t feel shame.
These are the steps that I leaned on. Honestly, I even pushed back the launch of this podcast until it felt right. Please reach out to me if you have an experience to share. I want to help you get your sparkle back!

Enjoying work-life balance might seem like an impossibility, especially since the pandemic where we are, more often than not, working at our kitchen tables. I’m here today to help un-blur the lines so that you can set healthy boundaries.
One way we inadvertently send mixed messages about boundaries is by making exceptions. People will model your behavior. If you reply to clients after business hours or if you let phone calls go longer than scheduled, you’re telling people that it is ok for them to expect these things from you in the future. Similarly at home, if you are on your phone at dinner, you’re telling your family that it is acceptable for them to be on their phones at dinner as well.
Points to Remember:
When you decide you want to set a boundary you have to actually have a conversation to reset the behaviors.
If you are reluctant to have these conversations because it may feel uncomfortable you need to confront your responsibility block. Remember that you have to take care of your needs in order to keep a relationship you put other people before your own needs. People pleasing is being “nice” at the expense of honesty and true kindness.
Set your positive intention. You care about the relationship and that’s precisely why you need to talk to them about why something isn’t working.
You’ll be doing yourself and everyone around you a favor by setting a boundary that keeps you feeling respected and full of energy.

If there’s one thing I understand, it’s family business. Having grown up in a family business, starting my own and marrying into one, I know the ins and outs of work-life blend. Today I want to talk about how to work with family members successfully.
It’s so natural and quite common to want to hire your other half, retire your husband or bring on board someone who is close to you. You think it will be easy because you already know the person really well. You want their company and you feel like it will be a mutually beneficial arrangement, but let me show you how to ensure it’s a smooth transition.
Things to Note:
Are you thinking of hiring a family member? There are so many positives if the fit is right. I’d love to hear about your situation.

I feel so strongly that we can and should find the skills and aspects of our personalities that light us up! We can live a life where we play to our strengths. Take the things you’re good at and become brilliant!
If you need to work hard to get your areas of weakness up to par, just know that that season of your life can be temporary. I want to share two personal examples from my own education where I had to figure out how to manage with significant disadvantages. If you have any learning disabilities, socio-graphic disadvantages or limiting beliefs there is light at the end of the tunnel. I want you to know that you can eventually move on to a season where you are able to spend the majority of your time and energy working in your strengths.
The goal is to spend your time where the magic is, because that is where the money is also.

If you have a personal brand business where your customers want to work with you personally you might get to the point where you wish you could clone yourself. You probably wish there were just more hours in the day. By simply wishing there were more of you to go around, you’re missing an opportunity. Instead, you could find someone who brings something new to the table!
Look for employees with diversity in their:
Opposites attract so follow that natural pattern and work with others who complement you. This will give your business more leverage! Remember, great leadership is allowing others to play to their strengths.

We business owners are not always the easiest people to work with. We think it’s easier to do the work ourselves because it’s hard to delegate tasks we care about and it’s hard to train VAs to do them. But, in order for your business to scale you will need other people on your team.
People management is a skill you can acquire. You can learn to inspire people and give them areas of control to work with you. People are the biggest investment you’ll ever make in your business. Bring them in and set them up to rise up with you and feel brilliant!

Finding and developing your right-hand person is a really important topic. My right-hand person has been a total game-changer in my business. Not only has she allowed me to free up my time, enjoy my role more and do the things I love in business, she really is my partner in crime, and I cannot imagine my business without her. As far as I'm concerned, a great entrepreneur needs a great right-hand person to complement his/her abilities.

How to find and develop your right-hand person
Why you need a trustworthy right-hand
The link between having a trusted aide and business success
What to look out for in your right-hand person
How to set and manage expectations for your right-hand person
As an entrepreneur, if you ever feel like you're wearing too many hats or are struggling to get most things done and on time, you're not alone. It's common for a lot of business owners to want to do it all on their own. And while some of them do, it's not sustainable in the long run. That’s why you need a trusted aide. Be careful, though, as the position requires a great deal of responsibility, trust and exceptional decision-making skills.

A question I get asked a lot is, how to identify and settle on your next hire, or for some people, your first hire? Hiring new employees can be a draining and time-consuming task. Not only are you risking it all by welcoming someone into your business, you now have to identify the next employee and hope you’ve made the right decision. And if you don’t get it right, you’ll have to do it all over again, costing you more money and time.
What You’ll Learn:
How to identify your next or first hire
The difference between a proactive and a reactive hire
How to test for analytical and learning skills
How to plan an employee recruiting strategy
Why you need to check for compatibility
How to hire new employees according to business needs
As earlier mentioned, hiring the right employee can be a challenging process. But hiring the wrong employee is expensive, costly to your general productivity, and time-consuming. On the other hand, hiring the right employee pays you back in employee productivity and potential business growth. All in all, you want your hiring process to be proactive and not reactive to guarantee the best results.

In today's episode, we talk about creating time for entrepreneurs from a leadership perspective. If you analyse why most entrepreneurs fail, it rarely comes down to business reasons. How many hours do you work each day? And how many of those hours are spent on productive tasks? Improving productivity as an entrepreneur helps you get more done in less time. Mind you, productivity is not simply tackling tasks for the sake of getting them done. It's about doing the right things at the right time, while achieving maximum efficiency for the efforts you put in.

In today's episode, we're going to talk about the behaviours that might get in the way of you growing a successful business. Success might look and feel different for every entrepreneur, but most entrepreneurs agree that destructive behaviours often form roadblocks that stop them from achieving success. What You'll Learn:
The four freedom blocks of entrepreneurial success
The responsibility block
How to handle self-limiting beliefs
The critical block
The busy block
The independence block
Why self-care is crucial if you want long-term business success

Success is for everyone. It's not limited to the chosen few and it rarely comes easy. When people experience failure, the primary reasons often boil down to bad behaviours and habits. If you want to be healthy, you need good lifestyle habits. If you want to be successful in business, then you must drop the bad behaviors sabotaging your success.

In this episode, I'll be taking you through actionable steps on how to rise up and be the leader that your business craves. I want you to spend more time working on the business rather than in it. Why? Because that's the only way you can scale a profitable business without sacrificing your life in the process. Leadership is at least 90% about managing people. The best entrepreneurs understand that having great ideas and a strategic vision is useless if your team is unwilling to follow you.
What You'll Learn:
The three stages of entrepreneurial revolution
How to lead by example
The four key traits of great leadership
How to drive profit at every stage of the business
Knowing how and when to delegate
How to recognise your company's strengths and weaknesses
How to develop your ability to execute business frameworks
As an entrepreneur, you will be asked to lead your organisation in a variety of different situations. If you have employees, it's your responsibility to motivate them to give 110% every single day. Unfortunately, too many entrepreneurs take leadership skills for granted. And although there's no one perfect way to lead, you can improve your own effectiveness as a leader by focusing on some of the topics discussed in this episode.

In this episode, I’ll be talking about what it means to have full freedom in your business. When it comes to building and scaling a business, most entrepreneurs end up being slaves instead of masters of their businesses.
The entrepreneurial venture takes everything from them, leaving them burnt out and frustrated. If you’re facing a similar predicament in your entrepreneurial journey, you’re not alone. In fact, most entrepreneurs go through this phase and come back stronger having attained full freedom in their businesses.
What You’ll Learn:
Understanding how full freedom looks like for you
Why you don’t have to do everything in your business
The benefits of prioritising and setting boundaries
Key behaviours that define a great leader
The 4 S’s for setting up your business for full freedom
How to create and nurture a support team around your business
How to lead an efficient and productive team
Business owners often blame the business when they fail to attain full freedom. Yet, in reality, lack of freedom is due to us. It may seem easier to blame employees or situations beyond your control, but blame takes away your power to change. You are the problem, but you are also the solution. So, take a step back, analyse what you’ve been doing wrong and work towards flexibility and freedom of choice.
