While there are many things in life that are out of our control, motivation is not one of them. There will always be conditions, people, and situations that can affect your motivation, but staying motivated is within your control, no matter the conditions. 1 What makes you tick? Everyone will differ slightly in what drives them, and one person’s motivation will not be the same as their teammates’. Start by getting a sense of where your motivation comes from. When are you at your most motivated, and when are you at your least motivated? Where were you and what were you doing in those times? How confident and capable did you feel? What were you thinking about? How well-supported were you? How in control did you feel? What was your attitude like? Answering these questions will give insight as to where your motivation stems from so you know how to find it again. 2. Choose your attitude Moods can come and go like thoughts and clouds in the sky, but you always have the power to choose your attitude. Research shows successful athletes have an innate sense of positivity and get their motivation from within They find a way to enjoy the process and embrace the challenge whatever it brings. 3. Get out of your mind and into your body If a particularly arduous training session seems overwhelming, the mind’s motivation centers can falter, causing you to give up before you’ve even started. In times of challenge, our minds love to tell stories on past and future failure, hardship, and struggle. Research has shown that mindfulness can help you to minimize that voice and detach unhelpful thoughts. By strengthening the connection between your body and mind, you can tune into a more pleasant side of training. And by increasing your awareness of your body and movement, you are also better able to predict how your body will respond to changes in circumstance and how to manage them appropriately. 4. Connect with your values Passion is a natural fuel for motivation. If your goals aren’t truly connected to your deeper values, or you don’t believe wholeheartedly in your mission, you’ll have to summon a huge effort to motivate yourself through training. We naturally invest more effort and find more enjoyment in activities that are connected to what we value. Make sure your goals are truly aligned to what’s really important to you in life. 5. Know your purpose Even some of the best athletes in the world don’t enjoy the process. They see it as a worthwhile means to an end to win the next big competition. Some sports require us to be able to execute compulsory skills or perform within the restrictions of rules. This can require hours of unpleasant, repetitive training to try and perfect movements solely to meet external criteria. To be successful is to have a bigger sense of purpose and identity worth training for. 6. Be fully present Living in our minds and thinking about training can force our attention to unhelpful thoughts of the pain we might experience, the discomfort or challenge that a hard workout brings. Our minds might go into overdrive predicting the most unpleasant experiences that lie ahead should we continue, begging us every step of the way to stop, bargaining and willing us to give up. The result? We are defeated before we’ve even begun. The more present you become, the more likely you are to experience the positive aspects of each movement as it unfolds, moment-by-moment. Tune into all of the sensations available to you. Listen to your body and let your body—not your mind—tell you when to stop. 7. Have a plan Start off by identifying your end goal that you want to achieve, then write out a plan for how you are going to achieve it. By knowing what affects your levels of motivation, you can make sure your plan meets your needs, energizes you, and keeps you interested. 8. Visualize success Whether you are going for a run or about to climb a mountain, visualizing yourself enjoying the journey and achieving your goals can increase your motivation for action. Your central nervous system doesn’t recognize the difference between imagination and reality, so seeing yourself succeed triggers the same sensations inside as if you are actually doing it, increasing your confidence in your ability to succeed! 9. Reward yourself Reward feeds motivation and enjoyment. Recognizing small achievements towards your bigger goal can provide a great source of intrinsic motivation. Meditation will allow you to appreciate each moment, each milestone, each success for what it is. Be kind to yourself in times of challenge and congratulate yourself for small successes. Small steps cover big distances—enjoy the journey. Take these certain actions in uncertain times 3 Valuable Quotes 1. Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face … You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” My body usually protests against that statement, but theoretically I concur with Eleanor. I sincerely believe the good stuff happens when we are afraid. If we go a lifetime without being scared, as Julia Sorel said, it means we aren’t taking enough chances. 2. "I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.” RULES: 1. Replace expectations with plans. 2. Prepare for different possibilities. 3. Become a feeling observer. 4. Get confident about your coping and adapting skills. 5. Practice mindfulness. 6. Focus on what you can control. 7. Acceptance: Embrace uncertainty as an essential part of life 8. Gratitude: Zoom in on what’s good 9. Intentional Kindness: Reach out and be kind to someone 10. The Bigger Why: Build a bridge of resilience from your sense of meaning 11. Where Ambition Goes to Die: Learning a massive lesson, Jason Allan Scott Shares his truth about what he has learned. There’s almost no end to popular sayings and advice to live by. Often the most profound life truths are summed up in what most would consider mundane platitudes and clichés. Irrespective of the banality, these messages can teach us essential lessons to help us live more meaningful and fulfilling lives if we follow their wisdom. Here are 15 truths to help you live your best life yet. 1. We create our lives with the choices we make. “Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, you can make a different choice.” Wise proverb There are two schools of thought when it comes to controlling; number one: we have no control, and number two: we do. The problem with the former is that it strips us of our power of choice, while the latter option gives us unconditional access to paths of awe. When broken down, the distinctions in our lives comes down to what we choose. These choices can come in different shapes and sizes. We may make choices about various topics such as our careers, our income, our friends, our environments, and our beliefs. Ultimately, though, what we choose to focus on at any time is what controls our lives and our destiny, and each new day is a new opportunity to choose how your life will unfold. 2. Your feelings are guideposts to your truth. Abraham-Hicks has a wonderful philosophy: “Negative emotion always means the same thing, every single time; my thought or behavior is moving in opposition with who I really am and what I really want.” Consider this: caregivers of small children are guided by them by paying attention to their emotions, and pet owners can tell any range of emotions by the way their pet displays their feelings. You, too, know when something feels great or feels crappy. Be true to your feelings. They exist to show you the way. 3. If you want to be loved, first love yourself. “You will be loved and respected only if you love and respect yourself.” Paulo Coelho For many people, the task of loving themselves is a difficult one. Without forgiveness, broken relationships and disillusioned expectations sometimes create barriers to experiencing love. The truth is, no matter how much people may love you, unless you are able to love yourself, you will not be able to acknowledge or accept the love of others. Take time to learn the truth of who you are: you are love. 4. You teach people how to treat you. Tony Gaskins stated Life Truth #4 like this: “You teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce.” I think this is a great metric when considering not only what we may be teaching others, but what we value for ourselves. Use this standard to take inventory for yourself and ask the question, “Is what I’m showing others what I wish to be conveyed?” If not, wouldn’t now be a perfect time to begin a new lesson? 5. Find purpose in all that you do. There’s a quote that’s attributed to Mark Twain which I love: “The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.” “Purpose” is a word whose meaning often eludes many people, but without it they may find themselves feeling lost and confused in life. And while “purpose in life” is a meaningful goal, in order to truly enjoy life’s intricate details, one must live each moment with purpose. This means giving complete attention to each task, each conversation, and each thought. This is the secret of the truly happy. 6. Spend more time looking for a solution than dwelling on the problem. “You are not a problem solver, you are a solution finder.” Abraham Hicks Our culture has assigned the title “problem solver” to someone who resolves issues. Unfortunately, many people spend so much energy considering the problem (“Why didn’t I get what I wanted?”; “How did this terrible thing happen”; etc.) that there’s little room to consider a solution. When addressing life, family, or relationship issues, ask yourself the question: “Will time spent considering the problem help me in this moment?” If not, find ways to shift your focus to improving things for the future. 7. We become what we behold. There’s a reason why we have ratings on our movies, video games and albums: not everything is suitable for every audience. We believe this because we’ve read study after study about how impressionable we are (especially as children). If you want to be successful, surround yourself with successful people and/or resources. If you want to be timely, study the habits of timely people. Visualization and focus on your loftiest goals will eventually lead you to become that. 8. Don’t take things so personally. I always liked the saying, “What others think about me is none of my business.” This is not the same as someone who says, “I don’t care about your constructive criticism.” Let’s face it: we all have room for improvement, but a great way to drive yourself mad is to take every comment, criticism, or critique personally. People will reveal their characters to you based on their values and beliefs; you don’t have to make them yours. 9. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” George Bernard Shaw If you spend any time at all studying business experts, they’ll all tell you the same thing: don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes, they attest, are the building blocks to massive success. Thomas Edison, when asked how he felt about his early failures with one of his inventions famously said, “I haven’t failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” If you adopt the philosophy of learning, you’ll only have lessons, not failures, to look back on. 10. Know that the sun is always shining behind the clouds. I don’t always love flying—especially when the clouds are thick with rain. When the wind tosses the plane and the clouds create turbulence in the ascent, I often close my eyes and pray that I arrive at my destination safely (so far, so good.) What I do love, however, is that no matter what the weather, once the plane clears the clouds the sky is calm, the clouds are peaceful, and the sun really is shining bright in the sky. I like to remember this truth on days when I’m feeling down or scared or things look like they might get ugly. No matter what clouds may be in your life, the same sun shines bright for you. 11. There is freedom in learning to be flexible in life. “When you struggle against this moment, you’re actually struggling against the entire universe.” Deepak Chopra Life is not predictable. Someone’s going to run late, some important item will be forgotten, something will be lost, and at the end of the day, the show will still go on. Those who learn to “go with the flow” enjoy more satisfaction in life than those who spend time lamenting about what “could have been.” Why struggle against the entire universe? 12. Each day is precious. Cherish the time you have. “Never pass up the chance to say ‘I love you’ because tomorrow is never promised.” Unknown I’m nearly the age my mother was when she passed away twenty-eight years ago. While it doesn’t have the same affect on me now as it did when I was a child, I try to live every day in reflection of the fact that none of us is promised another day on earth. Even if you were to outlive Jeanne Calment, life is short. Cherish the time you have while you still can and fill it with every wonderful thing your heart desires. After all, isn’t that what life’s about in the end? 13. Build and maintain quality relationships. “The quality of your life is in the quality of your relationships.” Tony Robbins What’s life without other people to share it with? Relationships are what make life the possible, adventurous journey that it is. And any person who has lived a quality life will be quick to credit their relationships along the way. The good news? You probably already have people in your life who you love and cherish immensely. The great news? Today’s a great day to remind them how much they mean to you. 14. Do what you can to take care of your body. “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” Jim Rohn Cardiovascular diseases killed nearly 17 million people in 2011 ; that is 3 in every 10 deaths. Of these, 7 million people died of ischaemic heart disease and 6.2 million from a stroke. Most contributing factors to disease are preventable, and the benefits of taking care of one’s health not only directly improve your life, but your continued existence can serve as a support to your loved ones. 15. Stay curious and you’ll never be bored a day in your life. Take a lesson from children: they’re always eager to play, eager to learn, and eager to do. Sadly, somewhere along the line many of us lose this sense of wonder and “grow up” and out of our natural state of curiosity. But when you’re able to maintain that sense of interest and intrigue, you are not only resistant to boredom, but you set a course for a life of bliss and improved mental ability. So what do you want to discover today? No matter what, know you are not alone. I get you, Kid. You're listening to a podcast produced by A PODCAST COMPANY. BIOGRAPHY

Elevate was founded in 2017, by Lucy Faulks and Ruth Tongue. 'We began running urban retreats for stressed out Londoners which sold out within hours and we realised that there was a demand amongst 30-somethings for no-nonsense, non-faddy, health enthusiasts who didn't want to go to events with 20 something selfie takers!'

Lucy and Ruth know that taking care of your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing can revolutionise your business. Preventing staff burnout will increase productivity, engagement and ultimately save your company time and money.

Burn out is real. In fact 50% of UK workers say they’ve experienced anxiety or burnout in their current job. Ruth and Lucy have been there. They know what it is that leads to that demotivated, disconnected feeling that’s tipping so many people over the edge.

Could Luwi Be the Nonhormonal Birth Control of My Dreams?

Lisa Kinsella, founder of new female contraceptive LUWI on The GuestList Podcast.

Luwi (pronounced loowee and stands for “Let Us Wear It”) is an ultra thin, hormone-free, chemical-free, new form of contraceptive and sexually transmitted infection (STI) protection made for women.

Launched in 2016, we are now crowd funding to continue our growth. Our goal is to reach more women and let them know they can #beincontrol of their sexual health while also enabling a better experience than condoms for both partners. #swapjohnny4jenny

Until Luwi, women have had to rely on a man to wear a condom. Luwi gives women the ability to be in control of their protection and address the problem that condoms can be disruptive to feeling good, leading many men to be unprotected despite STDs reaching epidemic levels. “Until now, sexual health options have not kept up with the modern woman,” noted Kinsella, Founder of Luwi, and original Super Luwi Woman.

Unlike a tight cover of a condom that is only usable at a specific moment, Luwi can be inserted up to eight hours before it is needed and protectively rests inside a woman for a natural, pleasurable experience. Luwi acts as a lining to prevent contraception and sexually transmitted infections and diseases. According to independent efficacy tests Luwi is more protective than a condom, and has a .1 percent breakage rate, compared to a 3.1 percent breakage rate of condoms.

Condoms require women to outsource their sexual health; Luwi exists to change that NOW. Experts estimate that there are more than 150 types of condoms in the global consumer market – none are made for a woman.

Luwi contains no latex and is made of organic and hypoallergenic polyurethane, which is ideal for those with latex sensitivities and hormone reactions (e.g. breast cancer patients, survivors, those concerned with mental health). The material conducts heat, providing a more natural feel for both partners.

Tara Howard is an entrepreneur and founder of the Venus Awards.

Frustrated by the lack of recognition of women and their achievements in business, she established the first Venus Awards in Dorset in 2009. Since then, the event has expanded to eight regions around the UK, with the 35th Ceremony to be held at the inaugural London Awards at the Waldorf in December 2018.

Tara’s experience in business has taken her around the world. She first moved to corporate London at the age of 18, and bought her first property at 22. She later returned to take over her family’s hotel business, transforming an historic hotel to a premier wedding destination and the number of weddings hosted per year from just three to over 100. Tara also managed to find the time to follow in her mother’s footsteps and qualify as a commercial pilot and flight instructor, and help produce a large scale opera in Toronto and New York.

A mother of four, Tara knows first-hand the many challenges facing women in their careers as well as the joys and opportunities of being a working mother. Vivaciously inspiring, Tara is passionate about helping empower more women in business to develop their self-confidence, to get the recognition they deserve, and to obtain all the success they need, no matter what their line of work.

Outside of work, Tara has always been eager to share her love of travel and adventure with her children. With them she has trekked to Everest Base Camp, cycled from London to Paris, completed the Bournemouth Pier-to-Pier Swim and traversed a Nepalese Glacier. For her next challenge she is set to kayak across the English Channel with her youngest.

Tara is Editor at Large of the Venus Magazine, soon to be host of Venus TV and podcaster to female entrepreneurs. She has been recognised with an Honorary Leadership Award by Leadership Awards UK along with industry leader Andy Street CBE, previously CEO of John Lewis and now the inaugural Mayor of the West Midlands, and management thought leader, Professor Vlatka Hlupic of Westminster University.

The Venus Awards are recognising regional business women across the UK since 2009.

Our vision is to enhance the lives of women around the world through encouragement and self- empowerment. To achieve this, we developed and continually expand a concept that seeks to recognise and reward local business women across the country.

Our goal is to expand into 35 regions across the UK and then take this duplicable model to other countries, including those in the developing world.

Today, I'm going to talk with you about BASTARDS - Bastardisation and Lucky Bastards.

My story - my learnings and my advice.

I am honored to be with you today at your event 10th Aspiring Manager award Dinner at The Brand New Four Seasons.

Today I want to tell you three stories from my life.

That’s it.

No big deal.

Just three stories.

The first story is about "necessity being the mother of all invention". My second story is about love and loss. My third story is about death.

But through Calisthetics, Meditation and focusing on what counts I am at a better place then I have ever been before.

As someone who has been shot, stabbed, kidnapped and diagnosed with an auto immune disease with an unforeseeable future, I can now say this to you.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share.

No one has ever escaped it.

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life.

It is Life’s change agent.

It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary.

Remember that they don't make statues to critics, and if you don't stand up for what you believe in, you will end up lying down for everything.

Lastly, my wish for you all is this one question?

"What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable?"

Thank you all very much.

The Lokkima Workout and Helen Mirrens Body Secret:

Canadian Air Force exercise routine that "very gently" gets her fit.

"It is the exercise I have done off and on my whole life. It just very gently gets you fit. Two weeks of doing that and you think: 'Yeah, I could go to the gym now,'" she told the site.

The workout, which was created by physician Bill Orban, is made up of 10 basic muscle-working exercises including a series of push-ups, sit-ups, leg raises, running and more. The exercise program is also offered in two series — a 5BX plan for men and a XBX plan for women which actually only takes 11 minutes. Without using any equipment, the workout follows a chart and according to Mirren, you can't move on to the next chart until you master the first set of exercises in the given time frame.

Known as the first type of high intensity workout of our time, the concept was later repackaged and sold as a type of interval training we're all familiar with today, reports the National Post.

George Bevis

Founder & CEO at Tide

Value Bombs: Create an event horizon:

SPRINT: Book.

LISTEN TO HIM ON WHEN TO GIVE UP!

EPISODE SPONSORED BY LOKKIMA AND CMERE.

http://lokkima.com/ and http://cmereapp.com/

“Business services offered by High Street banks have failed to meet the needs of the modern small business owner,” said George Bevis, Tide founder and CEO. “With slow sign-up processes, hidden charges and poor customer experience, business banking has been stuck in the dark ages.”

Tide, a UK-based, mobile-first banking service targeting small and medium enterprise customers, has picked up a Series A of $14 million, one of the bigger rounds for a fintech startup in Europe this year. The investment was led by Anthemis (the London-based fintech investor that has also backed Azimo, Currencycloud, Betterment and Simple) and Creandum (investor in Spotify and many other high-profile European startups), and is joined by Passion Capital and LocalGlobe, which backed Tide in a $2 million seed investment last year. Eileen Burbidge of Passion Capital is also Tide’s chairperson.

Tide’s unique selling point is that it provides a less expensive and faster service to smaller businesses who lack the staffing to run the accounting and admin sides of their businesses efficiently.

“People who run small businesses waste time with crappy administrative tasks, so we work out smart ways with software to automate these things,” Bevis said.

While a customer would use Tide just as they would a regular business banking account, it’s important to note that Tide is not a bank. Member deposits are kept in a ring-fenced account at Barclays under an FCA-regulated eMoney license by PrePay Solutions (PPS). Funds being held under an eMoney license, means deposits cannot be invested by PPS.

Music to Hospitality—it’s always been about the experience for Danielle Kimmey Torrez Chief Executive Officer of www.ExperienceGlobal.com

Hear Jason's best southern accent as he explains what Experience Global is.

Headquartered in Nashville, TN, EXP Global delivers intelligent experience training solutions to hospitality companies nationwide. Founded on the 5 Disney Principles of Service, EXP Global works with employees from maintenance to the C-Suite, driving cultural change that improves retention and creates repeatable and measurable customer experiences.

DANIELLE KIMMEY TORREZ

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

( Joy) Danielle Kimmey Torrez serves as Chief Executive Officer for Experience Global and leads the relational partnerships, strategy, technology growth, organizational processes, and sales and marketing for the EG team. She brings fifteen years of leadership experience, with a focus on strategic partnerships and brand identity.

“Customers remember each human interaction from their experience with hotel, restaurant, and events staff. That’s why we founded EXP.”

Her career in music taught her the value of creating memorable experiences. Every show required a well-choreographed, well-executed performance that they had to repeat night after night, treating each time they stepped onstage as if they were auditioning for the first time. She recognized that translates to the hospitality industry. Each staff-to-customer interaction defines the experience and creates a lot of data. The market needed a data-driven, customer experience solution that translates into measurable insights and outcomes.

Experience Global combines a tech platform with in-person training of health system and facility employees. The company has been working at Florida-based Adventist Health System — where it has trained almost 3,500 people in 15 months — and a South Carolina retirement center, among others, focusing on rallying workers around company culture and values. A small bump in employee satisfaction on that front, CEO Danielle Torrez told the Post, generates a big increase in the patient satisfaction scores that are becoming a growing part of reimbursement criteria.

Danielle, is highly energized by investing in people, goal setting and achievement, brand strategy, online marketing initiatives, creative collaborations and teamwork. Her favorite things in this world are people and pizza. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Experience Global.

How have you balanced utilizing both creativity & business savvy in your career?

Growing up, I thought of creativity and business as two completely different spheres. I was so wrong. Once I began to utilize my creative side in business I started to see opportunity in every department of my company! These days, I take time to dream and ideate before making any big business decisions. Total game changer.

Book: SmartTribes

Book by Christine Comaford As a leadership coach, the author observes that clients generally approach her with three goals in mind: performance, innovation, and engagement. The approaches they have used in the past are no longer getting them the results they desire. What's needed is more than tactical advice for implementing the same strategy more effectively, but a complete change in the strategic approach to organizational management.

She cites a number of findings of a Harvard study (Haskett 1992) into the way in which performance is enhanced by culture, in which companies identified as having "performance-enhancing cultures" significantly outperformed others in various regards (market share, profitability, etc.)

The author offers the notion of "smart tribes" - a culture that she claims will outperform competitors. The "smart" pertains to the proactive mind - seeing opportunities and evaluating options rather than reacting by gut instinct to the events as they unfold.

She concedes that "tribe" has become a buzzword, but it represents an important concept: the sense of belonging within an organization. Tribes work collaboratively toward a goal, and having the support of a tribe gives each member a sense of confidence in taking decisive action - it mitigates the risk of acting alone, shields us from consequences, which enables us to apply our higher mind rather than reacting in fear. The other benefits of collaboration - combining effort and expertise of many people - are of little value if the culture of an organization does not provide the security necessary to make an intelligent decision regarding which activities should be pursued.

Leaders unintentionally (or sometimes deliberately) push their teams into a position of insecurity, which creates a flurry of panicked activity rather than supporting more measured and intelligent choices. A major shift in the environment or a major change in the organization is often surrounded by uncertainty and doubt, and in times of major upheaval people look to their tribal leaders for direction - while the leaders cannot prevent this from happening, they can certainly consider their reaction. To shrug is not acceptable.

Where there is threat or uncertainty, people go into the animal state - freeze, fight, or flight - to exercise the higher mind and be in what the author calls the "smart state" requires confidence and security. For companies, growth is always desirable, even in difficult times - and to achieve growth, the leadership of a firm must work to keep their employees in the "smart state" even in the face of difficulty and turbulence.

If the organizational culture is consistently in its smart state, then it is a smart tribe - even in the face of change and growth, smart tribes are focused, communicate clearly and directly, and have the enthusiasm and energy to do what needs to be done.

The author lays claim to "neuroscience techniques" that can be applied to maintain a highly productive organization. She switches to providing a litany of benefits (performance, productivity, efficiency, innovation, and morale) that have resulted from applying her methodology. They are dramatic differences, and achieved within a relatively short amount of time.

She compares the book to a "field guide" and herself as a "scout" who has real-world experience and can guide you in the right direction. While the book provides a general methodology, it should also be a troubleshooting guide to help when managers find themselves "stuck" for a solution.

The Freedom Collective

What time do you get up in the morning? 5am.

Which app couldn’t you live without? WhatsApp, or Facebook – definitely communication-based ones.

What’s your top way to unwind in the evening? A run in the park, and then a hot bath while watching Vikings with a carefully positioned laptop. I’ve applied to be an extra in the next series. I want to be a shieldmaiden. I’ve started martial arts training.

What was your first job? Cleaning out stables when I was 14.

What did you always want to be when you were growing up? I wanted to have financial freedom so that I could make my own choices.

What’s a hot tip for a new company? Not a specific one, but I think we’re going to see a lot of companies pop up around meditation.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Never live your life by other people's limitations.

What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve been given? A famous advertising leader said this to a 26-year-old in front of me: “You need to focus on fixing all of your weaknesses between now and 40, because maybe after 40 you will be able to be a success”. For me that’s a recipe for disappointment and disaster.

What’s your motto? It’s never just business; it’s always about people.

What scares you? Sharks. I would never go diving in a cage with them.

Favourite Show: Sopranos and WestWing

Jason and Adam worked together on the W Hotel's arrival to London's Leicester Square, Away We Stay follows the romantic story of a photographer (played by Helena Christensen), who falls for a stranger she meets in a restaurant (David Gandy). Inspired by the iconic movie Blow Up, the film is directed by Edoardo Ponti and produced by Katrina.

Biggest Value Lesson: Humans are emotional creatures. My impression is that storytelling allows us to digest information more easily because it connects that information to emotions. ... Storytelling is important because it is effective at teaching in a way that people can easily remember, and at helping people relate to one another.

Hero, Hustler, SECRET AGENT? So the man being billed as the real-life black James Bond fails the authenticity test at the first hurdle as he does not start with " King..Carlton, King!". But in every other way he is the genuine article. He can pump 10 bullets into six targets with a Glock 17 in less than 10 seconds – and that also includes replacing the magazine halfway through.

He has criss-crossed the globe tracking down the bad guys. And his impressive list of close protection assignments includes former PMs Tony Blair and Sir John Major and President Bill Clinton.

Now retired after 28 years with the Met Police, Special Branch and MI6, his close-cropped hair is greying and only the bone-crusher handshake hints at a life in active service.

King has dropped into the Heroes and Hustlers HQ to discuss his memoirs that are being published as an eBook entitled Black Ops, The Incredible True Story Of A British Secret Agent.

• Black Ops, The Incredible True Story Of A British Secret Agent is available in eBook format and is available this week in hardback from all good book stores*

He who is not sage and wise, humane and just, cannot use secret agents. And he who is not delicate and subtle cannot get the truth out of them.

Mr de Min has been developing the app for the last year and has attracted £100,000 of investment so far, including a £25,000 interest-free loan from Kent County Council. He has also filed for an international patent. Jason speaks to him about his founder journey and lessons learned along the way- listen to hear it all now.

JournoLink: Father and daughter combo leading the PR revolution
Scott Speaks to FOUNDER& NON EXEC DIRECTOR, Peter Ibbetson. Peter Ibbetson is a banker turned entrepreneur. From being Head of Business Banking at NatWest (before it all went wrong!), he built a portfolio of directorships helping businesses grow. He then took the leap into entrepreneurship and created JournoLink, a disruptor business providing a PR platform linking businesses to journalists. Ever since the battle of David and Goliath, the small have been looking for metaphorical stones to outdo bigger rivals – much like SMEs trying to find a competitive advantage through transparency, quality customer service and the ability to foster relationships.

JournoLink would be classified as one such stone, having been created on the basis that small businesses would love to get media coverage but don’t have the know how or budget to do so.

At the same time, the concept revolves around journalists that want to find entrepreneurial business stories and spokespeople, yet struggle to find them.

But the truly clever part is that JournoLink analyses which press releases should be sent to which journalists, so that they are properly targeted at those who genuinely have an interest in them.

Jackie Mulligan champion events in the North, speaker and founder of her own digital start-up ShopAppy.com shares her story and answers listeners letters. ShopAppy was founded by Jackie Mulligan, who loves shopping in her home town of Saltaire. She and many of her friends were worried about seeing many of the great local shops struggling because of the increasing competition from supermarkets and online shopping giants. She even saw some shops closing to become online sellers - leaving vacant shops in the town. Jackie explains "I realised how happy it made me feel to have these lovely shops so close by, and how enjoyable it was to shop locally where you could speak to shopkeepers about the products because they had chosen them and they had bought them. I also noticed that in the local shops, residents talked to each other, shopping local just makes us all feel more connected and happy. I called it feeling 'shopappy' because I am a cockney and always drop my H's"

She also met lots of people who cared a lot about shopping local, but when they got home from work the shops were closed.

Jackie set about creating ShopAppy. Jackie is delighted that it is launched, she says “ShopAppy will give every independent in every local town a 24-hour shop window, doesn’t take commission on sales and encourages shoppers to look at what amazing things are on their doorstep. It is great to have convenience but it is also great when you feel good about where you shop. That's what might make us all shopappy!”

Owner and Founder - The Pop-Up Hotel - Mark Sorrell talks to Jason Allan Scott on the show.

It’s really hard to find a really special and different festival experience.

‘But that’s just what the Pop Up Hotel provides to its new and returning guests – all the atmosphere of staying under canvas with the comfort and luxury of a boutique hotel.

‘When you return to the Pop Up Hotel or Motel site, tired and muddy, you can use the hot showers before visiting the pop-up restaurant or street-food area.’

We’re still not sure quite how a ‘street food area’ is that different from ‘street food in an area with a lot of food vans’ except the price-tag but the atmosphere, he says, is different:

‘You can sit out and soak up the calming atmosphere before retiring to your chosen accommodation,’ he says.

‘Having woken fully refreshed, you’ll be ready for whatever the day holds.’

Some Highlights from this episode are :

Your first tweet was @martinceviche his first tweet was: "Does anyone care
about Peruvian food?". Support from food bloggers, chefs and writers
followed so he opened supper clubs at his home, then pop ups and now
Ceviche is a restaurant. Tomorrow Ceviche will go into even more fun
and innovative directions.

How important has social media been to your success?

TO me ceviche is like a sashimi salad, but one with one prawn, chopped squid, octopus, giant cholo corn, seabass (as the fish on that day), beansprouts, coriander and Zing? *salt, lime and chilli * ?

I had my first when I worked with Caprice and I loved it!

Peruvian food has always been written about as the next big thing (partly given its unique history of diverse cultural influences, one can argue that Peruvian is a true expression of fusion food. However Peru hasn’t really taken off as a must visit destination for gastro-tourist.

Why did you become a founder?
What was the gaping hole?

I always say your network is your netrworth?

" What is the secret to your sauce?"

Who is in your Ceviche click, your paypal mafia ? =

Martin's startup story:

Ceviche, then, was a smart name choice for his first restaurant as he explains. While Morales was pitching the concept to hundreds of investors to raise funds for the business, he took the cuisine on the road as a pop-up restaurant, wooing palates up and down the country while breaking in his team.

“It took us eight months to raise the money. I pitched to 300 investors and 290 said: ‘No, you must be crazy, this has never been done before’ – and that included Peruvians. But after hundreds of knock-backs and listening to feedback and changing my team, we pulled it off. Now we are strong, professional and sharp – and geared for growth. We smashed our first year sales target by 30%. And last year, growth was another 15% on top of that,” he says.

His team includes executive chef Tomasz Baranski, a Polish-born Spanish food nut who has embraced Peruvian cuisine under Morales’ tutelage. There’s also operations director Raquel de Oliveira, David Buxton leading finance, and Philippe Hails-Smith, a partner at Joelson Wilson, who was involved from the initial capital fundraising and who held Morales’ hand throughout, not to mention Soho House Group’s Martin Kuczmarski as non-executive director.

“I’m lucky to have so many mentors. They have great belief in what we are doing and they have stuck their necks out for me,” says Morales. “Professionalism, leadership and a strong ethos of fairness in the workplace are crucial to us, but we are a restaurant first and foremost – it’s all about the food we cook.”

Morales is a great marketeer – and even though he freely admits he’s not a professional chef (his love of cooking stems from helping his Aunt Carmela in the kitchen as a child), that hasn’t stopped him from appearing no fewer than three times on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. “Tomasz is very much the executive chef, not me – though I am the co-creator of many of our dishes,” he explains.

“I’m lucky to have so many mentors. Nick Mead The 2nd longest serving member of the Eden family talks Eden Caterers and more only on the show
Nick and team have been creating stylish, scrumptious and sustainable food since 1993.Across all three parts of the business, Eden’s commitment to sustainability and the environment goes beyond the lip-service many companies pay to green issues. Indeed, they won the ‘Independent Sustainable Caterer of the Year’ award, at the Food Legacy Awards ceremony. When we meet Mead he is open about his job, company and to answering the listeners letters. Mead came to catering after years as a youth football coach (he worked for Spurs, despite being an Arsenal fan, he tells me regretfully). There are now 27 full-time employees, as well as hundreds of temporary staff hired through Off to Work and other agencies. The Waterloo premises are stretched to capacity: there’s an industrial kitchen on site, with all the extras that requires; as well as an office space and an upstairs staff room, complete with pool table.Eden’s buyers also try to shop locally, using hens from Gloucester and beef from Essex, and they stick to a seasonal list of ingredients across the company. Find out about his mind set, habits, mantras and more here.

"If only this shopping list was a magic list that told me everything in order."
Entrepreneur Will Broome believes he has the perfect riposte to this dilemma with his new app Ubamarket.
Dubbed ‘the smart shopping list’, the app, which has been four years’ in the making, claims to solve some of the biggest issues consumers complain about when trudging through the supermarket for groceries, and provides a number of enticing commercial benefits to retailers too.
Speaking to Jason on the cusp of Ubamarket’s launch, Will described how the inspiration came like a bolt of lighting in the middle of a humdrum visit to his local supermarket.
"About five years ago I get back from work and my wife would text me a shopping list," he explained. "I’d go into the store and I’d have this long shopping list on my phone and I’d be knackered anyway. I’d go in like a typical bloke, I was going from aisle 6 to aisle 9 to aisle 4 back to aisle 6 again."

Caleb’s passion for helping people improve their lives and succeed in today’s economy has grown over the past seven years while helping hundreds of people learn about meeting rooms on-demand and workspace-as-a-service. He says we are in a ‘new economy‘ where technology has afforded us the freedom to work wherever we want, which is good, but as a result we rely too much on digital communication. He believes relationships are the key to business success, and in-person communication is still required.

He spreads his “new economy” message at numerous conferences, social media, panel discussions and various blogs.

He is the former CEO of London based MeetingRooms.com (2013-2016), the world’s largest online marketplace to search, book and pay instantly for meeting rooms in over 130 countries. Prior to joining MeetingRooms.com, Caleb co-founded a technology startup in 2012 in Washington, D.C. to create the first global distribution system for on-demand office & meeting space.

Earlier in his career, Caleb was named one of Savannah’s “40 under 40” business leaders” in 2006 after launching two successful small businesses in the city’s booming hospitality industry. A year later he moved to Washington, DC to join the The Regus Group DC management team. In 2009, Caleb co-founded a flexible workspace consulting firm where he brokered flexible workspace and advised businesses on agile working strategies.

Caleb is one of the first licensed commercial real estate agents to speak on the new economy, mobile working trends and the rise of flexible workspace, and has been quoted in numerous publications. He is @caleb_parker on Twitter.
