Regular listeners will be aware of the books of Holly Marlow who has appeared on the show before and has now written a new book called Some Things Have Changed which looks a what happens when a child taken into care finds out that their birth parent has had/is having another child. This is an issue that affects many Kinship Families and told through her wonderful characters it helps to explain what is happening .
I also read Room in the Nest which is her previous book that also covers Kinship Care. Thanks to Holly for allowing this and please do purchase this and her other books as they are wonderful tools if you struggling to explain to your Kinship Kid their situation.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to anyone who was affected by the awful tragedy in Southport this past week. A horrifying event and one that should never happen. I pay tribute to those lost and also give some thoughts and hints on simple things to do to keep everyone safe. I wish I didn’t have to do that, but if it helps one person then it is worth it. Stay safe everyone.

“You don’t know what you don't know” seems to be very prevalent for Kinship Carers. How often have you overheard someone talking to think “Hey I didn’t know that” or more importantly “Why didn’t anyone tell me that?” This episode looks at knowledge and learning and how we can’t know everything, but if we embrace all our tools we might learn enough.

Why is Kinship such a hard thing to say in media. We have had Eastenders tackling Special Guardianship Orders but without actually explaining what it all meant for those going through it. TV shows like Alma's Not Normal and Happy Valley deal with Kinship stories, but don’t mention Kinship by name. Why is this? Saying it once would shine a light in the cause and open some eyes to Kinship Carers and Kids.
