The Fall Guys
The Fall Guys is a group of Wisconsin high school football coaches who will interview college and high school football coaches with ties to the state of Wisconsin. The focus of each episode will be about the guests' football journey, how they got to where they are, and the lessons they learned along the way. The podcast is a collaborative effort with the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
This week West De Pere head football coach Chris Greisen stops by to talk about his education as a coach stemming from his college days, to the NFL, and across the pond in NFL Europe. He tells some great stories that you will not want to miss.
This week we talk to the 2022 Green Bay Packers coach of the year, Andrew Selgrad from Columbus. Coach Selgrad talks to us about their special season that ended them with a Division 4 state championship, the importance of learning behind other good coaches and what makes Columbus football special.
This week Coach Ken Krause from Muskego stops in to talk about his journey to head coach of the Muskego Warriors. Coach Krause talks about coaching from a very young age and how to handle the lean years to build for the strong ones.
11 year NFL veteran and former Green Bay Packer Mike Wahle drops by to talk about his NFL career and life outside of the game. This week former West De Pere football coach Jack Batten stops by to talk about his career which included two state titles and two runner ups. Coach Batten details the importance of fundamental football, talks about the lessons we learn from the game of football, and tells the story about having his daughters as water girls and the highs and lows that they went through together on the field.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by McFarland HC and AD Paul Ackley. Coach Ackley shares his coaching journey with us and also his thoughts on assembling a staff, time management, his maturation process and his advice for new coaches.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by Sun Prairie West WR Coach Chelsea Alt. Coach Alt's football journey has taken her from WI to NY and overseas as she has competed for national and international championships. Coach talks about her time at West Point & breaking down barriers as she climbs the coaching ranks.
The Fall Guys are joined this week by University of South Dakota OC Ted Schlafke. Coach joins us to talk about the places he's been, how Vermillion, SD compares to Stevens Point, WI, consitent themes his successful offenses have had, quarterback play and more!
This week The Fall Guys are joined by Northern Michigan University OC Dylan Chmura. Coach Chmura has worked under some legends in college football. Listen to his coaching journey, how he compares recruiting as a coach to being recruited as a player, and what it was like growing up in a NFL household.
This week the Fall Guys host brothers Sean & Jim Crowley. Sean is the DC and Jim is the OC for New Berlin Eisenhower. This week Darlington DC Jared McGranahan joins the Fall Guys to discuss his coaching journey and what he has learned along the way. Coach brings a unique perspective having coached on both sides of the ball. He has coached in the northern, southeastern and southwestern parts of the state with stops at both large and small high schools including a stint at UW-Platteville.
This week Menasha Head Coach Jeramie Korth joins the Fall Guys to discuss the journey from going 0-27 to 14-0. This is a great episode to hear about how Coach Korth and his mentor Coach Westphal turned things around at Menasha and built the program into a D2 powerhouse.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by Minnesota State-Mankato OL Coach Chad Henning. Coach Henning is a Sun Prairie, WI native and discusses his mentors and lessons learned along the way as he has quickly ascended in the coaching ranks. Other topics we discuss include what it has taken to build Mankato into the program it is today, producing NFL caliber talent, traditions at Mankato and the best place to eat if you are going to a game there.
The Fall Guys are joined by WFCA Hall of Famer and nationally renowned QB coach Jeff Trickey. Coach Trickey has coached at Cudahy, Waukesha South, Waukesha West and has run Jeff Trickey QB Camps since 1989. We talk QB play, evolution of the game and have great discussion about leadership.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by WFCA Hall of Famer and owner of NX Level Sports Performance Brad Arnett. Coach Arnett has been a multi sport coach at Arrowhead HS and hosts the WFCA Combine each year. We discuss his coaching journey, the WFCA Combine as well as a great deal of strength & conditioning.
Our 50th episode is a very special tribute to longtime Somerset Head Coach Bruce Larson. We are joined by his sons Rocky and Reggie Larson. Rocky is the HC at Mayville State University in ND and Reggie is the HC at New Richmond HS. You will hear incredible stories about the "Larson Bowl", Bruce's impact in the community, his influence on his players and sons, family traditions as well as lessons learned from the 2014 Green Bay Packers Coach of the Year and future WFCA Hall of Famer.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by West Virginia Mountaineer legend and former UW-River Falls Falcon Owen Schmitt. Owen talks about his journey from small Gilman, WI to D3 to D1 and then to the NFL. We talk NCAA Football, the amazing backfield at WVU (Schmitt, Pat White, Steve Slaton, Noel Devine), Pat McAfee and in a career full of highlights, his favorite moment of all.
This week the Fall Guys are joined by Madison La Follette HC Scott Swanson. Coach shares his coaching journey along with tales from the Big 8 Conference and city football in Madison.
This week Brookfield Central HC Joel Nellis joins the Fall Guys. Coach Nellis talks about playing HS ball in Madison and his decision to walk on to Wisconsin to play football for the Badgers. That decision eventually led to him writing a book about the success of walk-ons at UW and their success called "Walk On This Way". We also get to hear some of the lessons coach has learned along the way and who taught them to him.
This week The Falls Guys speak with Marshfield Defensive Coordinator Len Luedtke Jr. Coach talks about having his father, a National High School Coaches Hall of Fame inductee as a mentor as well as reliving the grueling battles of the old Wisconsin Valley Conference.
This week Coach John O'Grady shares his journey dating back to his days as a college assistant. He talks about the evolution of the game and gives an amazing tribute to the late Bruce Larson.
This week dream guest Greg Mattison stops by to share his incredible coaching journey. Coach Mattison is a graduate from Madison East HS, played at UW-La Crosse and started coaching at Riverdale HS in WI. From there Coach Mattison has made stops in the the Big Ten, (formerly) the Big 8, the Ivy League, the MAC, the Naval Academy, Notre Dame and the SEC before coaching and coordinating the Baltimore Ravens defense. From rivalries like the Army/Navy game, Florida/Florida St, Michigan/Ohio St, Notre Dame/USC and Texas/Texas A&M, Coach has seen it all over a 50 year coaching career. This week the Fall Guys bring you a look into the life of a scout. Coach Riese coaches football and basketball at Adams-Friendship HS and works for Optimum Scouting where he scouted the ACC for the Shrine Game this past season. Listen as Coach talks about his coaching journey, his journey to become a scout, rubbing shoulders down in Mobile and Quinn Meinerz.
This week Coach Nick Goeser from North Dakota State University joins us to talk about his journey from his playing days at Iola-Scandinavia HS and UW-Eau Claire to being the DL coach at NDSU. Coach talks about the consistent success they have had at NDSU which includes player development and finding talent other big schools seem to overlook.
This week we are joined by Madison East Head Coach Jeremy Thornton. Coach Thornton was the DC for the South Large School All Star Team in 2021. Coach shares his journey, talks about his mentors as well as the impact covid restrictions had on his program.
This week UW-Stout Head Coach Clayt Birmingham stops by to share his coaching journey with us. Coach shares his path from WI high school coach to D1, as well his experience coaching internationally.
