I’m reading the book, Grit by Angela Duckworth. A great book for business owners. In the chapter entitled Practice, she writes about cognitive psychologist Anders Ericsson. And, as Angela is intrigued by the attitude of grit and what its based on, she dove into Ericsson’s research of how experts acquire world-class skills, and she was even able to meet him. Ericsson concluded that while experts do not log more hours of practice….they do practice DIFFERENTLY.
We are diving into leaning into our work with deliberate practice.
In leaning into the hard and the effortful practice you will need a guide, someone who has been there leading you so that you can live out your assignment with excitement. The real value is more lives transformed!!! Recently, I had a coaching client have an Instagram reel go viral but added no followers but then said… “We’ve been getting more clients coming from the podcast….after listening they feel like they can trust us.” And, I know seeing more lives transformed is what you want, isn’t it?

Recently I was reading Hebrews 6: 7
“When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing.”
I love that we can take one verse and look at words or phrases in it that can show us something about our lives. The rain soaks AND it will bear a good crop for the farmer. When you look at the phrase “bear a good crop” you look at the action. I did a deep dive on some synonyms for “bears”

- Yield

Many of us have been soaking in the “professional development” for way too long. We’ve been soaking in our “masterminds”, we’ve been soaking in “what our coach said to do.”

There’s a Christmas party at church for the youth group tonight. So last night together, my son and I made some white chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles. After we let them dry, I put the pot in the sink with the remnant of the hardened white chocolate we melted the chocolate in….saying to myself, it just needs “time to soak”. Time to soak?? It needs extra time to just sit in the soaping water and the suds to allow it to lift the remnant of the white chocolate off the pan. Who am I fooling?? Let’s be honest, I pulled “the time to soak” excuse out because I had been gone all day and I didn’t want to clean the pan!!!
I wonder if you’ve ever said to yourself…I’m just gonna let that dream “soak”… I'm gonna need some extra time to allow the the dream to lift off the ground. If so, listen to this episode today!

It’s starting to get to be coolish here in Tennessee. I say "coolish" because it’s super cool in the mornings but hot in the afternoon. And it got me thinking about bonfires.
Have you ever gone to a bonfire? There are 3 requirements to build a fire: fuel, oxygen, and heat. The fuel is twigs, paper, and branches. The oxygen is the air God gives us outside, and the heat is from a match or lighter. You need all three to have a healthy fire. And, I started thinking about the difference between a spark and an ember: and its huge!
Did you know that a single ember, can't generate much heat? But, once you have even just a small pile of embers, they can produce the radiative heat necessary to ignite many materials, including wood.
Did you also know that embers are ignited when they are in a group?
Let’s compare how an ember-producing fire can affect you when you are in a group program.
You:
- are ignitable,
- feel the heat around you.
- stay warm even after the fire is extinguished,
- and you can be like embers blowing far away, starting spot fires (affecting others) who can be miles away!

Before Deb participated in my Flight podcast group program she was plagued with fear. In 2023, she kept moving her “Launch a podcast” business goal from Q1, to Q2, and then to Q3…pushing it away because it was too heavy and too hard to figure it out on her own. But, she is a GO GETTER…why couldn’t she just do the thing?? When Jim and I were doing some tree work at our property last week, we had to follow a step-by-step plan to get the work done and stay safe.
First, we got the tools and the Gator truck into position. Next Jim cut the limbs, Then, he attached the wench to the limb, and lastly, I hit reverse and pulled the limb outta there!! We HAD to have a plan of action OR WE WOULD STILL BE THERE TODAY working on it OR we could have been hurt.

I was sitting in a straight-back navy blue chair with my cutting board in front of me on a small round wooden table. It was Teachers' Appreciation week and I was cutting up apples, around 45 of them to be exact. "Why?" you ask. I was in charge of teachers and staff appreciation week again this year. ( I think maybe the 4th year! So much fun!) It was my creative vision to have an apple bar for the teachers at my son's school. You know, have sliced apples set up on pretty serving plates and have all the yummy toppings, caramel and choco sauce, peanuts, heath bar chips, and of course the fruity pebbles! HA!
My creative vision thought of everything! Or, I should say, Pinterest thought of everything! I wanted to make this special but I forgot one important thing: I didn’t ask for help.

As I wandered through the bustling aisles of Ikea, I couldn't help but feel a sense of inspiration wash over me. The carefully curated displays, the innovative use of space, and the thoughtfully designed products all spoke to me on a creative level. It was clear that Ikea had a strong strategy in place, focused on both form and function, and their attention to detail was evident in every corner of the store. But what really struck me was the emotion that their products evoked. From the cozy warmth of a well-placed rug to the practicality of a perfectly-sized storage solution, everything seemed to have been designed with the customer's needs and desires in mind. This balance of inspiration, strategy, and emotional connection made Ikea stand out in the crowded world of retail, and it left me feeling motivated to apply these principles to my business.

Most business owners have a "must do, but I don't love it" relationship with social media. So, what happens when you have a podcast but you feel like you HAVE TO promote it on social media?? What's a girl to do???
I'll tell you what you shouldn't do....waste all your time on social media when the return on your time investment is not (ROI) beneficial to your business.
But, can you have a podcast that brings in leads TO your business WITHOUT being on social media 24, 7??? Or even 1 hour per day, 5 days a week (which we are all probably doing?)

The way you are able to bring leads into your business WITHOUT being on social media all the live long day is by optimizing your podcast with strategy WITH keywords. This way you will set yourself up with your SEO...Search Engine Optimization. Optimizing your podcast first starts with your description. Does it have long tail keywords that people are searching for? Do you know what your ideal client is searching for?
On today's episode, you will hear my secret of how you can find out what keywords your ideal client is searching for! Tune in below!
In his book entitled, Lead Like Jesus, Ken Blanchard said, "Whenever we become the leader and try to make God the servant, things don't work out. Why? Because our ego gets in the way. We edge God out, E G O, we edge God out."
If you want your life to be significant, then you have to recognize that it's all about God, not about you. So back to his quote when he said, we try to make God the servant, we become the leader and things don't work out.
In the episode, I share about two different devotionals I was going to choose. Instead of the first one that God had given me, I chose to edge God out. I chose to put my ego first, and that is not being a servant leader. As Ken Blanchard says, "when we become the leader, but it doesn't work out. Our ego gets in the way. We edge God out." If you want your life to be significant, then you have to recognize that it's all about God and not about you.
And when people ask me, what is the one thing that you would tell me about podcasting that you wish you knew earlier or maybe you wish you put into practice earlier was this, It's not about you.
I wanted to share that with you because I think it happens to us a lot as Christian business owners. And here are three ways that we can exhibit servant leadership in our businesses and then also in our podcast.

Strategy is defined as the action to accomplish a goal. We use strategy in our lives each week. We have strategies to help us drink more water, how to manage our time well, and even strategies to teach our kids or grandkids how to tie their shoes!

If you want to grow a plant in your house, you need to take care of it. You need to water it, make sure the soil is good and that it gets the sunlight it needs.
In the same way, you want to give your podcast the attention it needs.
Don't just slap things up and not take the time to repurpose them.
You don't have to spend a lot of time doing it, but you need to ensure your podcast is optimized so that it can work for you, not against you! Optimizing your podcast is one of the ways to grow your podcast.

I used to be all over the place!! posting random tips for podcasters, posting whatever my client said earlier that day....and believe me it's not bad...but its just no organization in the content.

I recently saw a picture of big, beautiful Clydesdale horses preparing to pull a carriage in a Christmas parade. They were an impressive team, all harnessed together to accomplish a singular goal. What transpired in the days, weeks and months that followed was research, sending emails, more research, and then the launch. At that point, I didn’t know what a launch even was! I didn’t even have a trailer, or social media, or a plan. I was winging it.
