In this episode of Dear Estranged Heart, Kreed responds to the question, “What does healing even look like?” by describing healing as a quiet, inner transformation rather than a single, dramatic event. Drawing from her work as an estrangement coach & reconciled mom, Kreed shares personal signs of healing: less reactivity, greater emotional curiosity, a preference for peace over defensiveness, and a release of the need to prove anything. Healing, she explains, brings softness, empathy, and a deeper connection to one’s authentic self—often very different from the defensive identity once formed through pain. Kreed stresses that healing is not linear or final; it's an ongoing process of evolution and self-revelation. As one heals, they become less invested in revenge or being right, and more open to differences and compassion. Ultimately, healing is about coming home to oneself and choosing love over fear or control.

  2. Your sense of self evolves as you heal.
  3. Healing is not a destination, but an ongoing process.

In this episode, Kreed shares an estranged adult daughter's story. What struck Kreed about this particular estrangement experience was the balancing act the estranged daughter was doing in an effort to help herself and her relationship with her parents while also trying to help her children to navigate their relationship with their grandparents. This estranged adult daughter wants very much to have a relationship with her biological family and is saddened that she, the one who is working towards having healthy relationships with her biological family, is targeted as the "trouble child" because she recognizes the dysfunction of the family unit. This story also involves sibling estrangement as well.

Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change. - Wayne Dyer Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. - John F. Kennedy If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living. - Gail Sheehy
