The Motherhood Edit: Redefining Motherhood on Your Own TermsIn this special Mother's Day weekend episode, Jeneba shares her refreshing perspective on motherhood and challenges the common myths and misconceptions that often leave moms feeling overwhelmed and insecure. She encourages listeners to embrace their unique mothering style and offers practical advice for creating a personalized motherhood philosophy.

Top Takeaways:

  1. Perfectionism in motherhood is unrealistic and unhealthy. Embrace your imperfections and give yourself grace. Lead with self-compassion.

  2. Prioritize self-care and your own needs first. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup.

  3. Maintain your identity outside of motherhood. Your own self-identity , interests, and passions make you a better parent.

  4. Trust your instincts and make parenting decisions that align with your values and priorities.

  5. Seek out a supportive community of mothers who share your perspective and can offer guidance and encouragement.

What We Edited - Motherhood Myths and Misconceptions Debunked:

  • The perfect mom myth

  • The supermom myth

  • The self-sacrificing myth

  • The happiness myth

  • The comparison myth

  • The work-life balance myth

Actionable Steps: What To Do Next?

  1. Reflect on your personal values, beliefs, and priorities to create a foundation for your motherhood philosophy.

  2. Identify your strengths as a mother and focus on developing your unique parenting style.

  3. Curate your social media feed to include motherhood role models who inspire and resonate with you.

  4. Prioritize self-care and self-maintenance in your daily routine.

  5. Journal your thoughts and experiences to help define your motherhood philosophy.

Our Favorite Motherhood Role Models:

  • Emma Grede, co-founder and CMO of Good American

-Taraji P Henson - Black Leading Hollywood Actress

  • Chrissy Teigan- Model and TV Personality

-Michelle Obama - Flotus, Media Mogul, Author, NYT Bestseller

The episode begins with a very important question: Do you know yourself, or are you living in a version of yourself created by someone else?

In this episode, we explore the journey of self-discovery, the power of understanding oneself, and the process of making necessary edits to your life, decisions, and mindset.

What is the art of knowing thyself?

  • It's an internal process of examining yourself and refining your thoughts, behaviors, and life choices to align with your future self, goals, values, and aspirations.

  • It involves a thoughtful and courageous reassessment and redirection of your life and being intentional about how you are showing up in the world.

Keys to getting to know yourself better

Self-concept and self-awareness:

  • At the heart of knowing yourself is self-concept, which includes the beliefs and perceptions you hold about yourself without external influences.

  • Reclaim the power to define yourself on your own terms by shedding limiting beliefs and replacing them with self-advocacy and affirmation practices.

  • Self-awareness is a crucial daily practice that involves quieting your mind, practicing mindfulness and introspection, and observing your thoughts, emotions, and patterns without external judgment.

Self-compassion and self-discovery:

  • Self-compassion is essential when practicing self-awareness, as it allows you to be kind to yourself during moments of struggle and acknowledge your efforts, wins, brilliance, and beauty.

  • Taking inventory of your strengths, weaknesses, motivations, and unique qualities is part of the self-discovery process.

  • Embracing your future self with radical love, compassion, and self-awareness is key to developing a strong self-concept.

Practical tips for daily self-discovery:

  1. Journaling: Dedicate time to explore feelings, thoughts, and experiences in an unfiltered way through various forms of journaling, such as daily reflection, gratitude journaling, prompted journaling, podcasting, or even talking out loud to yourself.

  2. Setting SMART goals: Create specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals to give yourself direction and a plan of action for personal growth.

  3. Mindfulness and meditation: Practice being present in the moment and become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and environment through mindfulness and meditation techniques like mindful moments, reflection meditation, or focusing on your five senses.

Let's touch and agree! By engaging in daily self-discovery practices, you can enhance your self-awareness, create a deeper understanding of yourself, and live a more authentic and purpose-driven life.

Email me at hello@thebloomology.com and share your self-edit stories, reflections, and self-discovery moments

🎙 What you'll hear in this episode:

In this deeply personal episode, Jen Talks Tech reflects on her transformative experiences from the Women Evolve conference and details her evolution journey towards clarity, grace, and simplicity.

🔑 A Few Highlights From Episode:💅🏾Life Edits & Personal Evolution

💎 Simplification as a Path to Clarity:

After the conference, I've been focused on simplifying every aspect of my life, which has led to enhanced clarity. Moving with clarity is such a confidence boost and a "living your best life" cheat code.

💎Grace in Progress:

Post-conference, I'm constantly thinking about how I give myself more grace in day-to-day life. It's a work-in-progress but every day I find myself being more forgiving to me and less self-critical.

Recognizing small wins and giving oneself grace during moments of missteps, failures, and setbacks is essential.

💎Embracing My Unique Form:

I deeply resonated with one of Sarah's conference topics and that was the night she poured into us about the importance of "your unique form". After years of struggling with implementing expert advice and trying to adopt what "worked for the experts" I am finally confidently embracing that " I Am The Blueprint" and just have to lean into my unique form. Don't be scared or don't doubt the authenticity and originality in your unique journey, just keep creating your blueprint. The world needs that. You need that!

💎Self- Pacing & Intentionality:

Moving forward, I plan on doing everything at my own pace. Slowly and intentionally releasing content and products, focusing on genuine alignment rather than external pressures.

💌 SAAS Tribe, if you were at Woman Evolve, please top takeaways, favorite moments, and reflections one-month post-conference. I really have to know, how you're evolving out there!

Listen, in this episode so many gems were dropped. I hope yall agree.

My special guest host for the last episode this season is my good tech sis, Scrum Master and fellow podcaster, @forevergenella, who said to "find peace in peace". I could have ended the episode right there yall. . A whole word! GeNella and I talked about the day-in-the-life of Scrum Master, why it's important to be a forever learner and a skill collector, how to prepare for the current tech layoff season, and so much more.

I also touched on some updates around my upcoming UX career development and skill-building community launching this summer. Stay tuned and check out my Instagram for the waitlist dropping in June ( super excited for this)

We chatted about:

  • Career origin story and pivoting into Scrum Master role from a non-technical background with zero experience
  • Finding peace where you are and prioritizing that
  • The importance of continuing to stretch and challenge yourself
  • Preparing yourself for an unfortunate layoff and still maintain your tech money lifestyle
  • Top soft and technical skills needed to excel in a Scrum Master role
  • Top tier tips on career advancement, career growth, and getting to the tech bag

In this episode, we get into what a User Experience career journey looks like and the options involved when designing your dream life using your tech skills with Niesha White.

Niesha is an Experience Designer and the founder of Birmingham Black Techies (BBT) and Black Tech Takeover. She is a former Front End Web Developer (current no code fan), and overall tech enthusiast. Shout out to Team No Code!

She started out in tech as a Graphic Designer and switched to a CS major in college where she found her knack for designing and building websites. She later discovered UX (User Experience) Design and found her sweet spot. It's’ all about that Zone of Genius. That thing that makes you who you are and how you show up in the world!

Niesha founded Birmingham Black Techies in November 2019 while she was working as a Front End Dev. She founded BBT to create a space for Black techies to connect, talk about things that we find exciting in tech, and also share tips, advice, and resources for those trying to navigate and start their careers.

Niesha is passionate about diversifying tech, introducing people to non-traditional career paths outside of coding careers. She loves simplifying complex processes and helping people find their niche and what they excel at. She’s also very passionate about curating amazing experiences both online and in person. Super excited to support Niesha on her flexprenuership journey! She is now the founder of a UX consulting firm named after and inspired by Meg Thee Stallion, so how can you not love that hotties!

I’m really happy that we got to chat about what intentionally designing your life looks like and making your career work for you as opposed to just working at your job.

Get ready to pick up those gems. We talked all about….

Being a flexprenuer/intraprenuer and being comfortable doing it

  • How to prepare financially to quit your job?
  • How to unlock your zone of genius?
  • How to build confidence in your skills and your work?
  • Making time for self-care and what that looks like in practice
  • AND of course, we are still celebrating her new business. Check out her beautiful site Nihtheetechie.
