Ben and Erin Akey are a husband and wife team based out of Mobile, AL. Ben is in recovery for alcoholism and Erin is in recovery from food addiction. They are active in ministry at Northside Bible Church and also own a cafe and work with local recovery ministries.
Erin is a board member for the 40 Days for Life campaign in Mobile and is very active in the pro-life community and in the ladies ministry at Northside. Ben is on staff at Northside Bible church and is over the mens ministry. Their stories of the trauma that led to their addictions are a powerful testamony to the grace and redemption we can all find in Christ alone.
These days, we see more of the world influencing the church rather than the opposite of the church influencing the world. In this episode Ben and Erin discuss areas where this is prevalent.
While we celebrate a year of babies saved by the demise of Roe V Wade, there is still a lot of work to do in the arena of the pro life movement!

The Bible is very exact and distinct on when life begins and how God looks at abortion. Today we will take a look at what exactly scripture says about the topic. Erin will reference many verses that are to be our guide as it comes to abortion. The Bible is CLEAR- no Christian should be pro-abortion ever. This goes against everything the Bible tells us.
When AA began, it was boldly Christ-centered. It's been watered down and secularized to now refer to "the god of your understanding" which could be a tree. Celebrate Recovery uses the 12 step tradition but is unashamedly Christ centered. Nobody can truly beat addiction alone and without help and there is no greater help or higher power than Jesus Christ. Ben shares his thoughts on a faith based recovery program and how it has helped him stay sober.
Planned Parenthood is telling women the same lies they told back in 1987. I didn't have the internet and resources we have today and so I went on the word of the clinic workers. I have never been the same. I spent 35 years in guilt and shame and it led to my food addiction and failed relationships. Only by the Grace and mercy and redemption from Christ have I been able to overcome.
Ben shares his past in ministry and what led to his addiction to alcohol and also how he overcame that addiction through Christ.
Erin shares her background and the way she came to Christ as well as the trauma that led to her food addiction.
When we make a life change and decide to live clean and sober, whether from drugs and alcohol, or from food, or shopping, we can no longer hang with the same crowd or do the same things.
