Global Leadership: Future of research
Meet the woman in charge of the UK Research Council’s £8bn a year research grant funding. Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser is the Chief Executive of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and Regius Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge.
Ottoline has a long-term interest in research culture and its effects on the quality and effectiveness of the research system. She chaired the Nuffield Council on Bioethics project examining these issues and has been actively engaged in work aimed at generating a more inclusive, creative and connected culture. She has worked extensively in science policy and she and Tabitha will discuss the amazing opportunities and complex challenges that the UK ecosystem faces in the road to becoming a Science Super Power.

UK CreaTech companies raised nearly £1bn in venture capital investment in 2020, up 22% on 2019, and ahead of the £846m raised by Energy Tech in the same period, according to a new report commissioned by the Creative Industries Council and produced by Tech Nation. The level of investment into CreaTech suggests that the UK is emerging as a global centre of excellence. Global Leadership: What the UK needs from a National AI Strategy
Earlier this year the AI Council published an AI Roadmap suggesting the UK government double down on the good work started by the 2018 AI Sector Deal and proposing a national strategy fit for the next 5-50 years is published. The Government’s Office for AI is now writing a UK National AI Strategy and will need to prioritise in order for the UK to play to its unique strengths. CreaTech: Designing Impact
Efforts across sectors and geographies to inspire behavioural change through design has the power to evoke emotional responses as well as help solve some of our biggest global challenges. Great design can accelerate social justice efforts, advance public health initiatives, and reduce carbon footprints or waste. If global individuals and institutions can find even more effective ways to harness this intentional practice – carried out and augmented by creatives at the forefront of industry, architecture, the arts and culture – it may prove to be the key to addressing some of our biggest global challenges over the next ten years.
To explore this topic further, Boster Group is bringing together two leaders within design and architecture to discuss how they think about behavioural change in the context of their practice and how business leaders can do the same.
