I found that the chances I don't take often stem from fear. As I grow older I recognized it to be fear of failure. In this week's episode, Dorcus chats about how over time she learnt to trust her gut, recognize opportunities and not allow procrastination to take control she points out that mistakes are actually the best learning opportunities. We discuss fast fashion and the effect it is having on our economy and her journey in entrepreneurship thus far.

How do you get started in design? Does imposter syndrome ever fully disappear? Do you need a university education to make it as a creative?
While we might want to wait for things to be perfect before venturing out into new challenges sometimes it's necessary to just go for it. In this week's episode, we chat with Leanne Van a Freelance Illustrator and Designer as she gives us some insights into her experience in the design industry. We look into how it all started out and landed her first job.

What are some of the most essential skills every woman should be equipped with in order to defend themselves? Nicole's response was as follows...
So we would recommend having a strong base in hand-to-hand combat. In weapon dis-armament and in anti-rape tactics.
If you can have the basic principles, just the basic principles of just those 3 things you can get yourself out of just about any situation.
So hand-to-hand combat is when there is no weapon involved and you are being grabbed, dragged, or pulled. So if you can just do grabbed, pulled, or dragged you can do one or the other. You just need to be able to do one and you'll be able to do all 3. With weapon disarmament, it's very similar when it's with a gun or a knife it's slightly different. But you learn one or the other then you are able to handle yourself around weapons. Then Anti-rape is an absolute must. If you don't do hand-to-hand combat or if you don't do weapon disarmament thats fine but anti-rape is an absolute must! So that is essentially how to get yourself out of a situation when you're lying flat on your back which is the worst position anyone can find themselves in. With a man on top of you choking your throat. So those are the 3 skill sets you should really be focusing on if you want to be able to protect yourself. If you'd like to continue the conversation join us @thementorgap on Instagram we would be happy to chat. Welcome to The Mentor Gap -the audio podcast experience. I am your host Lucinda De Almeida I am a creator and I'm excited to have you with me on this journey.
I believe in the power of sharing information and collaboration. Am talking about that awesome feeling you get when you're able to help someone out through a heart-to-heart conversation.
Over the last year, I started seeking change in my life. It started with one interview that I got by accidentally pressing send on a DM I was about to delete soon after that I was enticed by how willing my fellow South African women are willing to uplift when they can and all I had to do was ask. I have spent the past few months chatting to women from different backgrounds with a variety of occupations. Now I'd like to share these conversations and have many more.
In this show, we will be engaging in conversations, sharing experiences, stories, and practical advice. Talking to experts and everyday people to get the answers to questions you may have.
I am very excited to have you along with me for this journey so be sure to subscribe wherever your listening to this trailer. Stay tuned for new episodes coming soon.
