My guest to day is Ryan Swan, NIU Men's soccer head coach.

The Huskies finished the season 14-2-2, including both the regular season MAC title and their first MAC conference championship since 2011. Swan is just the second coach in NIU history to earn MAC Coach of the Year honors, joining Steve Simmons who collected the award twice (2004, '06). This is the second time Swan has earned a coach of the year honor during his career, he was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 while at Drury University.

Off the field, the Huskies have also had 23 Academic All-MAC honorees selected during Swan’s first four seasons.

A new podcast all about football here in the 815 area code. That not only includes our local high school and college teams, but our local semi-pro teams like DeKalb County United and our Midwest Premier League rivals to the north, FC Rockford. We’ll also talk a little MLS, some Premier League, reaching down into the depths of the English pyramid system to the Championship, League One, League Two, and beyond.

We’ll talk tactics, strategy, formations. We’ll do our best to connect with local coaches and discuss their programs and their upcoming seasons. We’ll chat with folks from DeKalb County United and, we hope, Rockford FC, about the 2021 MPL season. We’ll update you on the latest scores from local teams, the MLS, and the Premier League.

In short, while we don’t have a set podcast format yet, we’ll try and cover as much football here in the 815 that we can, as often as we can. I hope that as we flesh out the final format of the show, you’ll stick with us as we go through our own pre-season training.

And we’d love to connect with you, our fans … follow us on Twitter; our handle in @815Corner … and shoot us an e-mail with your thoughts, questions, comments, and suggestions at 815corner@gmail.com … we want to hear from YOU! We might even open up the mailbag in a future show to answer your questions!
