This is América, a new English-language series that brings you stories and conversations with the people shaping our hemisphere. We'll be interviewing writers and actors, directors, musicians, and more. Some are well-known, and others are rising stars, but all are names that you should know if you're traveling, if you like Latin music, movies, or books, or if you're just generally interested in the region.
Chilean director and documentarian Maite Alberdi joins us from Santiago to discuss her latest film, "The Mole Agent," nominated for Best Documentary Feature in this year's Academy Awards. It's based on a remarkable--even funny--premise, and all of it is true: an elderly man in perfectly good health is hired by a private investigator to go undercover as a spy... in a retirement home. But the film quickly turns into a moving reflection on aging, on elderly loneliness and neglect, and on what matters most in the end.
