Welcome to Calfire Crackpots, the premier youth-led, bad-joke-cracking, politics-analyzing, and climate-change-explaining podcast!
My name is Aris, and our mission is to destroy the notion that youth are powerless against the climate crisis. We aspire to motivate everyone to fight for change by explaining the climate crisis, its causes and effects, and steps for practical change and activism.
Stick around and watch any of our hour-plus, possibly humorous, and well-researched delves into the world of the climate crisis! Uploads are weekly!

Happy one-year anniversary to Calfire Crackpots! For today's episode, we'll be taking a look at the history of American environmental legislation beginning with the formation of the National Parks System. Welcome back to Calfire Crackpots summer edition where we'll be discussing the ins and outs of the archaic, terrible, no good, very bad supreme court. Specifically, we'll get into the EPA ruling as well as a good laugh at policy, and a discussion on why California seceding is a terrible idea. Enjoy.

The news certainly goes less than hard this week. Rather fittingly, we decided to go down the rabbit hole of how climate policy became the dog-and-pony-show that it is today. Beginning with Jimmy Carter and the energy crisis, we take a LONG detour at the hanging chads and come all the way to Grandpa Joe and how he fell off his bike. Enjoy. Or else.

Offshore drilling isn't cool, and it seems that no matter who is in the White House, it continues to expand. Today we discuss the how's and why's of new offshore drilling legislation as well as how it factors into Russian energy independence. Lastly, this episode was recorded BEFORE the terrible tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts are with those who are suffering, and may ACTION result!

Today we experiment with an audio-only format of podcasting, and kind of like it... Today's topic kicks off our exploration of the humanity of climate change. That is to say, how climate injustice, discrimination, and American-style racism have exacerbated the climate crisis and made it worse for some more so than others. Before that, however, we discuss the recent loss of credibility of yet another pillar of the American government as well as how we recover from it.

As the climate crisis is the single most pressing issue of the century, fixing our planet requires a herculean mobilization of both public support and political will. The magnum opus of the US would be the acclaimed "Green New Deal". However, because its ins and outs remain elusive to many, we'll be first taking a look at the conditions surrounding FDR's "New Deal" in the Great Depression. Later on, we'll investigate the different provisions, controversies, and successes of the "favorite son" of the progressives.
Happy Earth Day!

With April 1st, the 2021-22 wet season for the Western United States has fully come to a close. The strong La Nina year brought record rainfall to the PNW while hanging much of the Central Coast and Rockies out to dry. In today's episode of Calfire Crackpots, we'll be looking at snowpack statistics, rainfall graphs, upcoming ballot measures, and oh-so-many government websites to better understand where America is headed for the 2022 Disaster Season.

Like gas station food and Quentin Tarantino movies, some things truly are better than others. The same can be said for cities. While nearly all urban settings have more renewable energy, less car dependence, and a higher standard of living than rural ones, cities like Mobile, Alabama and Dallas exist to offset all of that. Today, we're gonna be exploring the climate efficacy of different cities around the world and how they can be made greener and less dependent on cars. This week's news segment features, as it so often does, yet another outrageously transphobic Republican state legislature.

To take a line from my podcast inspiration, "Well There's Your Problem", "train good, car bad". Today on Calfire Crackpots, we'll begin to pick apart climate engineering that ACTUALLY WORKS with a discussion of commuter and intercity rail in the United States and Europe as well as how to improve it, and how to better answer the complex geographical question that is long-distance transportation in the United States. In "The News" this week, Russia may be pulling a King Bush II and implying that Ukraine is in possession of weapons of mass destruction.

Besides being the antagonist in the "Modern Warfare" Trilogy, Russia has a lot of interesting stuff going on. Its a country with 19th-century leadership, supported by 20th-century infrastructure, running a 21st-century economy. Join us as we talk about Russia's roles and responsibilities in the climate crisis and the relationship between Russian militarism and the worldwide push for renewable energy. In our news segment, we will be talking about the State of the Union Address, Florida's latest homophobic nonsense, and of course, Russia.

Whether it's grandpa at Thanksgiving or that one oddball friend, many of us have our fair share of climate change deniers in our lives. The secret to winning an argument is to know someone's ideology better than they do, and we're not here to win an argument, we're here to enlist people in the war on climate change. Join us as we pick through the moldy pages of bad science and terrible critical thinking skills to understand what makes the average climate change denier tick. Also included will be some top-notch draft evasion tips should your number be called.

Also included is a surprisingly heated rant about the state of the 117th congress of the United States of America.

From seawalls, landfills, pumping plants, nuclear canals, and the hellscape we call the Netherlands, we'll be delving into all of the ways the nations of the world are hopelessly trying to preserve their coastal cities while ignoring the root cause of the problem.

Americans: I'm one of them. For better or worse, we're a highly individualistic culture. We want our fancy SUVs, big houses, and no one to tell us what to do. But, unfortunately, we also emit lots of CO2. So how do we reconcile that? How do we solve it? All that and more on this episode of Calfire Crackpots.

After a much-enjoyed week off, we're back at it with an analysis of the engineering and development of the Colorado River and how water gets from the peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the 40 million people in the Southwest who depend on it. Also included will be irrational anger about farming in the middle of Arizona.
Today we're gonna be discussing the California wet season and Joe Manchin's buffoonery. Last week's debacle with Zoom has strengthened my fortitude to figure out how to use Zencastr for the next episode. Enjoy!
In response to an offhand joke in the last episode, we're doing a full review of a climate change denial documentary called "The Great Global Warming Swindle”. Among other things, the piece claims that clouds are formed by particles from exploding stars.

This is the first episode of Calfire Crackpots, a podcast with slides discussing water policy and climate change. In this episode, we will talk about what water politics are and why ornamental lawns suck. We will also explain why lawns are a good litmus test for how much extra freshwater there is to go around.
