You just found out that your best friend is a murderer, and has bodies hidden in their basement. You call the police, but by the time they arrive at the house, your friend has moved the bodies... there are still insects though. The police know that these insects only live on decomposing flesh, and question your friend. Your friend says that his cat had recently died, and caused the infestation. You know he's lying, but can't prove it... if only the police could test the DNA in the insects stomachs... luckily, they can.

In this episode I interviewed Dr. Gail Anderson, who is a world renowned Forensic Entomologist, Professor, Associate Director at the SFU School of Criminology, Co-Director of the Center for Forensic Research, Director of Undergraduate Programs at SFU... the list goes on. We talked about Forensic Entomology, and how it can be used to determine everything from the poison used in a killing, to the length of time a babies diaper has gone unchanged. Are vaccines bad? Is climate change real? Was the moon landing fake? Why do we debate these questions and how can we find out the answers? This is what I interviewed Professor Espenhain of WVSS about: the application of the scientific method to resolve issues, and why the generation of controversies is an inherent part of science. Although this episode is longer than usual, there's even more content that I had to cut, so make sure to follow the instagram account @tasac.podcast to hear the even more philosophical side of this episode.

Today, I interviewed professor Nevena Ivankovic of WVSS to discuss how volcanic eruptions and asteroids can lead to nuclear winters, and why it's so hard to prepare for these catastrophes. This episode functions as an extension to Episode No. 2, where Professor Ivankovic and I discussed geochemistry, and how it affects our daily lives. Be sure to check that episode out too!
