Join us as we kick off an exciting new series titled "Gospel Centered Godliness - Being the Church in the Community" based on the letter of 1 Timothy. This series delves into the theme of godliness, which appears ten times in 1 Timothy and holds profound implications for pastors, church members, and their mission to spread the gospel.
Discover the backgrounds of key figures, Timothy and Paul, as we explore their journeys of faith. Timothy's upbringing in a family of faithful women and his familiarity with the Hebrew Bible set the stage for his own faith. Meanwhile, Paul's dramatic conversion from a devout persecutor of Christians to a passionate follower of Jesus demonstrates the transformative power of encountering Christ.
In this final message in Jude, Gary Pierce discusses the importance of staying true to one's faith and avoiding the influence of false teachers. He emphasizes the need to remember the warnings given by the apostles about the existence of false teachers in the last days, who follow their own desires and cause division within the church. Gary advises believers to build their faith, pray in alignment with God's will, and keep themselves in God's love. He also encourages showing mercy to those who doubt and rescuing others from destructive paths. Ultimately, Gary highlights the role of Jesus in keeping believers from stumbling and presenting them blameless before God, deserving eternal praise and devotion.
In this message, Gary Pierce discusses false teachers and how to spot them using Jude 11-16. Jude uses examples from the Bible, including Cain, Balaam, and Korah, to describe the characteristics of false teachers. False teachers are described as hateful, greedy, rebellious, destructive, and misleading. Christians should be aware of false teachers, especially those found online.
In the book of Jude, false teachers are described as relying on their dreams instead of the Bible for their teaching and activity. False teachers also please their flesh, reject authority, and are disrespectful. Christians should be aware of false teachers they may allow in their mind through online platforms.
Jude warns against false teachers who pervert the grace of God and lead others to sin. He gives three examples of judgment: the destruction of those who did not believe after being saved from Egypt, the condemnation of angels who left their position of authority, and the punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah for sexual immorality.
The book of Jude is a letter from the half-brother of Jesus to the early church. Jude initially wanted to write about their common salvation but instead urges them to contend for the faith against ungodly people who have snuck into the church and perverted the grace of God. These false teachers deny Jesus and are predestined to punishment. Jude warns the church to not follow.
Dancing in church is not a sin, but rather a form of worship. In Psalm 149, we learn the purpose of our life and salvation is worship and reigning with God under His authority. As such, Christians should study the Bible and use it as the rule book for judging the world and winning the world over to God with the Gospel.
Psalm 146 praises the Lord and reminds us not to trust in earthly power, but to put our hope in God who executes justice, feeds the hungry, sets prisoners free, and watches over the vulnerable. The Lord reigns forever.
In Psalm 82, God speaks to a group of heavenly created beings that He had given control over the pagan nations of the earth. The rulers of the world were doing wrong, and God commands justice for the weak and powerless. Though sin and injustice are everywhere, God cares and is patient. The hope we find here is the same hope we find throughout the rest of the Bible: God will bring back the lost, and Jesus is the One who will ultimately put everything right with God.
As a Christian, our example is Christ, not Cain. We will explore 1 John 3:11-18 and Genesis 4:1-16 as we see how oftentimes we follow the example of Cain instead of Christ.
You and I need to beware of antichrists in our life because they oppose Christ, the Church, and the Christian.
What we have in Christ is far better than what the world offers. Do you believe that? I know we are in church and the right answer is to say yes, we believe that what we have in Christ is far better than what the world offers. But we need to understand what we have in Christ and then understand what the world offers to really answer this question honestly.
Our salvation not only makes us right with God, but our salvation also produces obedience to God, and love for other Christians in our lives.
As we look at 1 John 1:5 - 2:2, we will see that Jesus alone reconciles the unholy to a holy God. Jesus alone brings together the unworthy to a worthy God. Jesus alone redeems sinful people to a perfect God. You and I can't do this. Even in our best effort, we come up painfully short. Apart from Christ, we are in the dark, and we cannot come into the Light. God is Light and we are the darkness.
Join Senior Pastor Gary Pierce as we start our journey through 1 John; we will see our need to know what we believe about Jesus. You and I should believe the right things about Jesus to rest assured in Christ's redeeming work on the cross on our behalf. When we believe the right things about Jesus, we can confidently talk with others about Jesus. This morning we hope that you know Jesus, share Jesus, and enjoy Jesus.
